I read several good reviews for this LP and never had the chance to hear. What to expect from a solo LP of Bebeto, member of Tamba Trio, bassist and flute player, accompanied by Tamba Trio members Helcio Milito and Luiz Eca? Surprising, this album does have any kind of connection with Tamba Trio music, but an emotional, subtle and kind work of Bebeto. It seems to be home made, so relaxing is the overall performance of Bebeto and members on the set.
This is Bebeto - Bebeto (1975), for Tapecar, first and only Bebeto Castilho LP with Bebeto (bass, flute and vocals), Laercio de Freitas (piano), Luiz Eca (piano on tracks 01, 02, 07 and 11), Helcio Milito (drums), Durval Ferreira (cavaquinho) and Bebeto, Cida, Jayme, Fabiola and Laercio de Freitas (vocals). Laercio de Freitas was also in charge of arrangements. Thanks to Caetano Rodrigues for another great contribution to Loronixers. Tracks include:

Thelma - Thelma (1965)
Thelma Soares or just Thelma is a Brazilian singer that probably many Brazilians had never heard about. Thelma started his career in the early 60's sponsored by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes. Both meet Thelma attending her performance in Sao Paulo, at the nightclub Baiuca.
This is Thelma - Thelma (1965), for CBS, Thelma debut LP, produced by Vinicius de Moraes and Marcos Valle. Vinicius de Moraes wrote the linear notes of this album with enthusiastic words about Thelma and this record, plenty of Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes and Marcos Valle compositions. Thelma had a fast start with support from renowned people, but what happened with her since then? She released another LP in the following hear and other two spare releases in the 80s.
Make a try to this great singer, gently provided by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers, give also your feedback since there is more to come. Tracks include:
01 - Yemanjá (Tuca / Luis Roberto)
02 - Samba do Carioca (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - O Que É Que a Baiana Tem (Dorival Caymmi)
04 - Batucada Surgiu (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)

Jon Hendricks - Salud! Joao Gilberto Originator of the Bossa Nova (1967)
This is another Bossa Nova album made by a non-Brazilian artist, such like those last ones from Sacha Distel, Vikki Carr and many others that were gently provided by Caetano Rodrigues and all countless friends who contributes to Loronix. Angela Maria e Waldir Calmon - Quando os Astros se Encontram (1958)
I have been searching for LP since the first day of Loronix and now I'm very happy to make it available to my friends. It is all about two artists that I like very much and so different to each other in terms of style. Let's see how they perform together.
This is Angela Maria e Waldir Calmon - Quando os Astros se Encontram (1958), for Copacabana. You will find enclosed the back cover with some interesting information about how this LP was born. In summary, Waldir Calmon had a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro, the legendary Arpege. On a given day, Angela Maria went to Arpege and performed together with Waldir Calmon some tunes to an astonished audience. They were very famous by that time and I’m sure this meet was a great happening.
The idea of making a LP together came very soon and this is what is being presented here, Angela Maria singing with the accompaniment of Waldir Calmon e Seu Conjunto. This LP is the original 1958 issue and was found on a bad shape. You will hear some clicks, clacks and hisses as natural consequence of its 50 years of life, but I believe that it will not spoil the experience. Tracks include:
01 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro
02 - Vamos Maria Vamos
03 - Brigas de Amor
04 - Flores Negras
05 - Baiao Diferente
06 - La Leyenda de Beso
07 - Pra Fazer Nosso Samba
08 - Risque
09 - Havana So
10 - O Samba e o Tango (Chegou a Hora)
11 - Travesso
12 - Babalu

Chiquinho do Acordeon - Chiquinho, Seu Acordeon e Sua Orquestra (1961)
Let’s made this day a happy day, celebrating Sivuca with another artist that shares his passion for the accordion, Chiquinho do Acordeon, considered the Father of the modern accordion playing in Brazil.
The accordion was very popular in the 40's, until the early 60's. I remember my father asking me which instrument I would like to learn, the acoustic guitar or the accordion. It was really common at the times the choice of the accordion instead of the acoustic guitar as the first instrument in the childhood. By the way, my choice was the guitar.
I'm wondering if it was better playing first the accordion, such complex and rich instrument could provide myself a better initial music education.
You will have high quality music with Chiquinho do Acordeon - Chiquinho, Seu Acordeon e Sua Orquestra, for Odeon, another nice, unique and hard to find release provided by our great friend Caetano Rodrigues. Tracks include:
01 - Chora Tua Tristeza
02 - Samba Triste
03 - Era Bom
04 - Inteirinha
05 - Espere um Pouco Mais
06 - Minha Seras Eternamente
07 - Tete
08 - Esquecendo Voce
09 - Dindi
10 - Esmeralda
11 - Serenata Suburbana
12 - Guarda Che Luna (Olha que Lua)

Eliana e Booker Pittman - Eliana e Booker (1962)
Eliana Pittman and his stepfather Booker Pittman recorded together an album in 1964 for Polydor, Eliana and Booker Pittman - News from Brazil, Bossa Nova, considered one of the hardest to find LPs in Brazil. However, only a few selected are aware of the existence of another Booker & Pittman release and this is what Caetano Rodrigues kindly brings to us, another rare and sought-after Eliana and Booker Pittman release.
This is Eliana e Booker Pittman - Eliana e Booker (196?), for Mocambo. I have been asking several collectors at Loronix about this LP. My fault, without knowing a great expectation was created by these inquiries, which is something that makes me feel really confident to say that only a few selected friends had the chance to hear this LP.
Unfortunately, the date is uncertain. By the way Eliana Pittman sings in this LP, she is probably less experienced then her performance on the previous mentioned News from Brazil, Bossa Nova (1964), this should be from the very early 60's.
Anyway, if you are one of those who were tracking down this LP, here it is. Thanks to Caetano, he brings music that we probably never had the chance to get along before. Tracks include:
01 - Yes Sir, That's my Baby
02 - Balao Apagado
03 - Love for a Star
04 - Bate que Bate
05 - Mamma Don't Allow - Samba de Uma Nota So

10 - Mulata Assanhada

Jackson do Pandeiro e Almira - E Vamos Nos! (1964)
This is to take advantage of the commentary from the new Loronix friend Manoel Paraiba at CBox. Manoel said that more music from Brazilian Northeast, such as: Jackson do Pandeiro, Trio Nordestino, Marines, among others. Actually, these artists do not fit something that I use to call as Loronix profile on a daily basis, but eventually, they can appear at Loronix, since they are great artists with great albums.
This is Jackson do Pandeiro e Almira - E Vamos Nos! (1964), for Philips. Thanks to Mr. G. to make available this album to Loronixers. This is not the first Jackson do Pandeiro LP at Loronix, the first one had a great reception and I hope E Vamos Nos! makes the same successful trajetory. Almira is Jackson do Pandeiro's wife, performing together since they got married in 1956. The mighty Joao Mello produces this LP. Tracks include:
01 - Babalao
02 - O Assunto e Berimbau
03 - Lamento de Jangadeiro
04 - No Balanco do Baiao
05 - Mare Vai
06 - Tililingo

Poly, Sua Guitarra Hawaiana e Conjunto - Sentimento Brasileiro (1961)
Hello, Good Night! Yesterday, we started with an album of Edu da Gaita, the harmonica virtuoso. I'm following the same concept today, presenting to Loronixers another musician and his instrument of choice.
This is Poly, Sua Guitarra Hawaiana e Conjunto - Sentimento Brasileiro (1961), for Chantecler. Angelo Apolonio, also known as Poly, is a Hawaiian slide guitar virtuoso, being also an excellent musician on other strings instruments, such as acoustic guitar, cavaquinho, viola, bass among others.
Do not think that you will have an LP with Hawaiian music, Poly is all about Brazilian music, playing Samba, Valsa, Choro, Cancao, etc. The outcome is unique and you should have a try to Poly, another great Brazilian musician. Tracks include:
01 - Despedida de Mangueira
02 - Tristeza
03 - Arrependimento
04 - Favela
05 - Deus me Perdoe
06 - Linda Flor que Morreu
07 - Rasguei o Teu Retrato
08 - Sussuarana
09 - Hula Hula
10 - Cigano
11 - Negrinho do Pastoreio
12 - Alma de Tupy

Varios Artistas - E Tempo de Musica Moderna (1965)
People, have a seat to another fantastic LP by the great Caetano Rodrigues. We have been preparing this post for more than a couple of days and Caetano - with some zecalouro influence - has decided that today is the right day. First, let's take a special attention to the story behind this post.
Picture yourself in Rio de Janeiro, 1964, the Golden Bossa Nova years. Tamba Trio has just released his third LP for Philips, Tempo. CBD executives, together with Mrs. Stella Marinho from O Globo newspaper, decided to make a partnership to work together on a charity initiative called "Ajude uma Crianca a Estudar", to collect funds and help child education.
The initiative was launched with a cocktail at Leme Palace Hotel, followed by a concert at Jornal O Globo, "E Tempo de Musica Moderna", directed by Armando Pittigliani. Philips selected the best available at the cast to perform the show: Copa Trio, Luiz Henrique, Os Cariocas, Rosana Toledo, Jorge Ben and Tamba Trio.
This is E Tempo de Musica Popular Moderna - Varios Artistas (1964), for Philips, with an interesting fact, this is probably the only recording featuring the legendary Copa Trio, with Dom Salvador (piano), Edison Machado (drums) and Sergio Barroso (bass). Copa Trio starts the gig and backs up the remaining artists on the set, Luiz Henrique, Os Cariocas, Rosana Toledo and Jorge Ben. Tamba Trio closes the party with four tunes.
At the end of the concert, people could buy Tamba Trio - Tempo to help children. What amazing day. Who was there? If any friend had the chance to attend this historical concert, please tell us how it was. The track list has 12 songs, I decided to create single tracks for each artist just to be convenient and do not break each one performances. Mario Luiz from Radio Globo, makes nice introductions hosting the show. Tracks include.

Edu da Gaita - Edu em 8 Ritmos (1957) 10P
Hello, Good Night! Let's start the day with an artist that is probably known only by the friends who live in Brazil, Edu da Gaita, a famous virtuoso harmonica player, active from the 30's until the early 80's. Edu da Gaita was the first musician to perform the Moto Perpetual of Nicolo Paganini on a wind instrument.
Edu da Gaita was responsible for the popularization of the harmonica in Brazil on popular music and also classical, winning several awards in Europe and South America. He was also the solist of Radames Gnattali sexteto during the 60's. In this LP, Edu da Gaita - Edu em 8 Ritmos (1957) 10P, for Polydor, Edu's harmonica visits several genres, such as: Samba, Fox, Baiao and Fado with the accompaniment of Alexandre Gnattali Orquestra and arrangements. Tracks include:
01 - Nola (Fox)
02 - Conceicao (Samba-Cancao)
03 - Lisboa Antiga (Fado)
04 - Saudades da Bahia (Samba)
05 - Brasileirinho (Choro)
06 - Summertime (Blues)
07 - Que Murmurem (Bolero)
08 - Sob o Ceu de Suez (Baiao)

Os Vocalistas Modernos - Os Vocalistas Modernos Novamente em Foco (1960)
It is unbelievable that Loronix is making the release of the second LP of this unique vocal group from the early 60's. Their debut LP was released here two or three months ago, by that time, everybody had a lot of fun with it, let's what happens now.
With the great help of Caetano Rodrigues, zecalouro presents, Os Vocalistas Modernos - Os Vocalistas Modernos Novamente em Foco (1960), for Philips, released few months before the debut LP. Os Vocalistas Modernos are five girls, Ivone, Odalea, Vera, Consuelo and Marly, and four guys, Edgardo, Cosme, Abelardo and Emmanuel. Carlos Monteiro de Souza is in charge of the arrangements. Phillips, on both linear notes, do the best to make you believe that Os Vocalistas Modernos are the "future of the modern Brazilian music", but apparently, they made only a third LP in 1961 before disappearing. Anyway, if you miss the first, have a try, it is a very nice LP. Tracks include:
01 - Samba da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
02 - Samba de Uma Nota Só (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
03 - Samba É Isto (Alcebíades Nogueira / José Batista)
04 - Samba do Perroquet (Djalma Ferreira / Ivone Rebelo)
05 - Samba Torto (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
06 - Samba Feliz (Osvaldo Santiago / Roberto Martins)
07 - André de Sapato Novo (André Victor Correia)

Lindolfo Gaya - Carlos Machado Apresenta, Rio de 400 Janeiros (1965)
Hello, Good Night! This LP is the original soundtrack of a Musical number directed by Carlos Machado and performed in 1965 at The Golden Room of Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro. Correct me if I'm wrong, but LPs from the 60's with OST are not common, which makes this a wonderful pick.
This is Lindolfo Gaya - Carlos Machado Apresenta, Rio de 400 Janeiros (1965), for Elenco. The last Os Cariocas release, Rio de Quatrocentas Bossas is in the same "spirit" of this one, the celebration of the 400 anniversary of Rio de Janeiro. I'm not sure how hard to find is this LP, but it is one of the most classy and produced Elenco release, beautiful cover artwork with a painting of an early Rio de Janeiro by Rugendas. Front cover and back cover are included in HI-RES. Special attention for the last track, Cidade Maravilhosa, it is the hymn of Rio de Janeiro City. Tracks include:
01 - "Bossa Nova" -- Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) -- Blues Walk (C. Brown)
02 - Maxixe (Lindolfo Gaya)
03 - Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
04 - "Medlley Carmen Miranda" -- O Que É Que a Baiana Tem (Dorival Caymmi) -- Taí (Joubert de Carvalho) -- Diz Que Tem (Vicente Paiva / Haníbal Cruz) -- Good Bye Boy (Assis Valente)
05 - Valsa Debret (Lindolfo Gaya)
06 - Rio (Ary Barroso)
07 - Praça do Século XVII (Lindolfo Gaya / Chianca de Garcia)
08 - "Escola de Samba" -- Tiradentes (Estanislau Silva / Décio Carlos / Penteado) -- Chica da Silva (Anescar do Salgueiro / Noel Rosa de Oliveira) -- Lá Vem Portela (Billy Blanco) -- Exaltação à Mangueira (Enéas Brites da Silva / Aloísio Augusto da Costa)
09 - Polka (Lindolfo Gaya)
10 - Calendário (Vicente Paiva / Chianca de Garcia)
11 - Seresta Imperial (Lindolfo Gaya / Chianca de Garcia)
12 - Cidade Maravilhosa (André Filho)

Sivuca - Bossa Nova (1968)
When I saw this LP at Caetano Rodrigues book, I found it very interesting, but I only realize that it was unique when Caetano came to Loronix and spoke with me about it. This is Sivuca - Bossa Nova (1968), for Reprise, perhaps the only LP release by Sivuca playing only acoustic guitar in all tracks.
As the title indicates, Sivuca visits well know Bossa Nova tunes on 14 tracks, singing and using his voice as an instrument in some tracks. I could not find were the recording session was performed. That's another self-explanatory release. Tracks include:
01 - Berimbau
02 - Garota de Ipanema
03 - So Danco Samba
04 - Fly me to the Moon
05 - Mas que Nada
06 - Samba de Verao
07 - Corcovado
08 - Samba de uma Nota So
09 - Meditacao
10 - Agua de Beber
11 - Um Homem e Uma Mulher
12 - A Felicidade
13 - Manha de Carnaval
14 - Samba de Orfeu

Erlon Chaves e Sua Orquestra - Em Tempo de Samba (1961)
Caetano Rodrigues will be surprised with this post, he gave me the vinyl original issue of this LP together with the last set of contributions to Loronixers, but I think Caetano would not realize that I would like that a lot to make it available to Loronixers. Thanks again Caetano, this record is unique and I did my best to make this cover scan and convert the vinyl to digital files. I hope I could make it accordingly.
This is Erlon Chaves e Sua Orquestra - Em Tempo de Samba (1961), for RCA Victor, according with my researches, the debut LP of the great Maestro Erlon Chaves, one of Loronix favorites. This record is among one of the few releases that blends an Orchestra performance with the Samba rhythms efficiently, creating something that our Orchestra specialist Zarville calls as "Samba Orchestra". Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my feeling about this LP. Nice arrangements by an early Erlon Chaves, great since his early years. Tracks include:
01 - É Fácil Dizer Adeus (Tito Madi)
02 - O Menino Desce o Morro (De Rosa / Vera Brasil)
03 - Água de Beber (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 - O Nosso Olhar (Sergio Ricardo)
05 - Tema Oriental (Erlon Chaves)
06 - Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
07 - Dindi (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
08 - Só Vou de Mulher (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
09 - Descendo o Morro (Billy Blanco / Tom Jobim)
10 - Duas Contas (Garoto)
11 - Barquinho (Ronaldo Bôscoli / Roberto Menescal)
12 - A Fuga do Samba (Erlon Chaves)

Juca Chaves - As Duas Faces de Juca Chaves (1960)
Hello, Good Night! This is a request of Frank-Oliver, a Bossa Nova and Brazilian music collector from Germany. It is hard to hear from Frank-Oliver the answer "I don't have this LP!", since this album is a missing piece on his collection, I decided to give it a try at Loronix. Let’s see.
Meet, Juca Chaves - As Duas Faces de Juca Chaves (1960), for RGE, the debut LP of a unique figure in the Brazilian musical scene. Juca Chaves music is all about corrosive humor against Brazilian politics and key figures of economy. However, the amazing fact is the vehicle that Juca Chaves uses to deliver his message, music, mainly sweet and romantic modinhas. The outcome is very funny, especially if you understand Portuguese. If you are in the mood of hearing something different, this is the right choice for today. Tracks include:
01 - Presidente Bossa Nova (Juca Chaves)
02 - Nasal Sensual (Juca Chaves)
03 - Violão no Ombro (Juca Chaves)
04 - Nós os Gatos (Juca Chaves)
05 - Atraso e Solução (Juca Chaves)
06 - Tô Duro (Juca Chaves)
07 - Menina (Juca Chaves)
08 - Aquarela de Sonhos (Juca Chaves)
09 - Musa Infiel (Juca Chaves)
10 - Por Quem Sonha Ana Maria (Juca Chaves)
11 - O Tempo Passa (Juca Chaves)
12 - Meu Violão Morreu (Juca Chaves)

Juarez e Seu Conjunto - Masterplay Goes to New York (1963)
This is a very special post, probably the most awaited post at Loronix ever. This release could only made possible with the help of Caetano Rodrigues. I invite all Loronixers to say thanks to Caetano at this post comment section to create a long stripe of thanks for this release, the last ones and the forthcoming. Just say thanks, just do it. It will be a great and creative manner to give a nice feedback for his amazing collaboration.

Vikki Carr - Intimate Excitement (1967)
Hello! Good Night! Let's start the day with a non-Brazilian artist singing Bossa Nova, a formula that seems to be very successful on earlier posts such like the last Sacha Distel LP, acclaimed by many Loronixers. Guess who provided this release to us? Easy, Caetano Rodrigues that just picked up what is considered one of the best albums of this singer.
This is Vikki Carr - Intimate Excitement (1967), for Liberty, never releases in CD and currently out of print. Vikki Carr, born in the US, started in the early 60's being active until today, releasing more that 50 career recordings. She is recognized to bridge the cultures of the United States with Latin America, singing in two languages.
You will see how Vikk Carr manages her dual language singing on this LP, where she uses two languages even on the same song, mostly based on Bossa Nova standards. Tracks include:
01 - Laia Ladaia (Reza)
02 - Going out of My Head
03 - Toys
04 - Meditation (Meditacao)
05 - Pretty Butterfly (No Balanco do Jequibau)
06 - Mas que Nada
07 - Call Me
08 - Once
09 - The Constant Rain (Chove Chuva)
10 - Summer Samba (Samba de Verao)
11 - Insensatez
12 - Manha de Carnaval
13 - Now I Know the Felling

Nelsinho - Nelsinho e Seus Trombones (196?)
I said it before and I want to say it again: Thanks a million Caetano! As the bird in charge of Loronix, I can see better how many friends are improving their knowledge and appreciation of Brazilian music with your great sharing spirit and enthusiasm. Thank You.
If you hit the sky with the last series of great contributions of the Legendary Caetano Rodrigues, get yourself ready to go out of the solar system with this new series, starting today with this new one, which is another of those self-explanatory releases. Meet Nelsinho - Nelsinho e Seus Trombones (196?), for Magison, awaited by several friends, widely unknown and a collectors sought after item. Maestro Nelsinho had previous releases at Loronix as arranger or sideman at many LPs, now it is time to check his first solo. I did it and it is truly amazing. Tracks include:
01 - Maria Ninguém (Carlos Lyra)
02 - Tema Pro Wagner (Nelson Martins dos Santos "Nelsinho")
03 - Nosso Cantinho (Jair Amorim / Evaldo Gouveia)
04 - Chora Tua Tristeza (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)
05 - Menina Flor (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
06 - Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
07 - Presente de Uma Flor (Cyro Monteiro)
08 - Balonadas (Nelson Martins dos Santos "Nelsinho")
09 - Esperando (Marconi Campos / Hilton Accioli)
10 - Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
