My choices were many for this last post of Monday, but I had something specific in my mind since the morning that unfortunately had fail in the last minute. The past show that these last minute failures are important to make you dig your collection to find forgotten gems that are ready and waiting for a chance. We need thanks this last minute failure that made zecalouro remembers this old and good Carlos Lyra LP, which deserves to close this amazing Monday.
This is Carlos Lyra - ...E no Entanto e Preciso Cantar (1971), for Philips, produced by Roberto Menescal and arranged by Theo de Barros. This album brings well-known Carlos Lyra songs, including the one that I like most, Maria Ninguem, recorded by Joao Gilberto at the anthological Chega de Saudade, Primavera, Cancao que Morre no Ar, Marcha da Quarta Feira de Cinzas among others. Personnel is not credit and Theo de Barros arrangements are beautiful on top of classic Bossa Nova standards. Tracks include:
01 - Identidade (Carlos Lyra)
02 - Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - I See Me Passing By (Carlos Lyra / Kate Lyra) with Kate Lyra
04 - Rio Vermelho (Carlos Lyra)
05 - Primavera (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 - Até Parece (Carlos Lyra)

Vadico - Evocacao III (1979)
This is a tribute to one of the most underrated and forgotten artists in Brazil. Make an exercise right now and try to answer a simple question: "Who is Vadico?” Probably, just a small group of friends would make it by heart. I'm quite sure Vadico is widely unknown outside and even inside Brazil. Vadico is the longtime composer partner of Noel Rosa, one of the most interesting composer partnerships of Brazilian popular music. Their first composition is the legendary Feitio de Oracao, created in 1932, the second was, believe me, Feitico da Vila. Since these first two masterpieces, they made together hundreds of legendary compositions. I'm sharing a tribute album to Vadico, recorded in 1979 by a constellation of Brazilian musicians.
This is Vadico - Evocacao III (1979), for Eldorado, a tribute to Vadico. In spite of his series of compositions with Noel Rosa, Vadico was also a gifted musician, playing piano and leading orchestras. Vadico had also an international experience as member of several American orchestras and as pianist of o Bando da Lua, Carmen Miranda accompaniment group, taking part in several movies in the 40's. There is also an interesting story about Vadico, he was the first Vinicius de Moraes choice to be responsible for the soundtrack of Orfeu da Conceicao, but Vadico took a lot of time to accept the offer and Vinicius decided another name, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Feitio de Oração (Vadico / Noel Rosa) - Márcio Montarroyos
02 - Prece (Vadico / Marino Pinto) - Dominguinhos
03 - Nego (Vadico / Marino Pinto) - Raul de Barros
04 - Choro Em Fá Menor (Vadico) - Amilton Godoy
05 - Pra Que Mentir (Vadico / Noel Rosa) - Roberto Sion
06 - Sempre a Esperar (Vadico / Vinicius de Moraes) - Raul de Barros
07 - Feitiço da Vila (Vadico / Noel Rosa) - Edu da Gaita
08 - Julgamento (Vadico / Marino Pinto) - Márcio Montarroyos
09 - Chopp (Vadico) - Amilton Godoy
10 - Guanabara (Vadico / Aloysio de Oliveira) - Roberto Sion
11 - Só Pode Ser Você (Vadico / Noel Rosa) - Dominguinhos
12 - Conversa de Botequim (Vadico / Noel Rosa) - Heraldo do Monte

This is an excerpt of yesterday's Pan American Games opening ceremony featuring Elza Soares singing a capella (no instrumental accompaniment) Hino Nacional Brasileiro (Brazilian National Anthem). Nara Leao has a vast discography. I thought most of Nara Leao out of print albums were available at Loronix. Once again I was wrong, there are many Nara Leao albums to show, including some of the ones that I like most, the ones recorded in the 60's. I'm not focused on her works from the 80's and you should thanks the might Leodama for this post, which is the last Nara Leao album, recorded in 1989, the same year she left us.
This is Nara Leao - My Foolish Heart (1989), for Polygram, a collaboration between Nara Leao and Roberto Menescal. Dilermando Reis - A Volta ao Mundo com Dilermando Reis (1959)
This parrot needs vacation. This album was perfect to be released on our Music from All Countries celebration, but zecalouro forgot to make it. Big fault, he as two in his collection, he bought the second just to get a better cover artwork, which is really beautiful. Dilermando Reis is considered one of the best violao players in Brazil and this his first album at Loronix, a very late release to fill a missing point. Dilermando Reis has a vast discography and this is one of his first albums.
This is Dilermando Reis - A Volta ao Mundo com Dilermando Reis (1959), for Continental. This is a guitar only album with Dilermando Reis renditions of music from several countries. It is delicious to hear, Dilermando Reis has a romantic playing style, very hard to describe writing, and you should take it for a hearing. Dilermando Reis first 78rpm was released in 1941 and he recorded until two years before his passing with 61. As professor, Dilermando Reis counts as his disciples the ex-president of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek and the renowned Bola Sete and Darci Vilaverde. Tracks include:
01 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro (BRASIL)
02 - Ausencia (PARAGUAI)
03 - La Despedida (CHILE)
04 - Milongueiro del Ayer (ARGENTINA)
05 - Estrelita (MEXICO)
06 - An Affair to Remember - Love is a Many Splendored Thing (USA)
07 - Danca Nr. 5 (ESPANHA)
08 - Comme Prima (ITALIA)
09 - Amoureuse (FRANCA)
10 - Uma Noite em Haifa (ISRAEL)
11 - Jalousie (FINLANDIA)
12 - Olhos Negros - Duas Guitarras (RUSSIA)

Leny Eversong - Leny Eversong na America do Norte (1957) featuring Neal Hefti Orchestra
Hello, Good Evening! Today we had the opening ceremony of Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian and Cariocas are giving a great support to the event. If everything running accordingly, the chances of Brazil on hosting the 2016 Olympic games increases. The ceremony has just finished and it seems everybody was watching it on TV. From the historical 160 visits per hour, our numbers dropped to just 111 visits. Anyway, the show must go on and the day starts at Loronix, starts solid with this very interesting album.
This is Leny Eversong - Leny Eversong na America do Norte (1957), for Copacabana, original released in US as Leny Eversong - Introducing Leny Eversong (1957), for Coral. This is also the first Leny Eversong 12-inch, following her first 10-inch, recently released at Loronix as A Voz de Leny Eversong (1955). This album was a jointly contribution from Daniel Vernhes and Caetano Rodrigues. Daniel sent the Coral issue and Caetano the Copacabana issue, both covers looks very similar. Leny Everson has the accompaniment of Neal Hefti, one of the top Jazz arrangers and composers of the 50's and his Orchestra. Tracks include:
01 - I Can't Give You Anything But Love (J. MacHugh / D. Fields)
02 - Tierra Va Templa (M. Merceron) El Cubanchero (Rafael Hernandez)
03 - Stay In My Arms (Paulo Alencar / Ben Raleigh)

Dick Farney - Dick Farney no Waldorf (1960)
I know several fans of Dick Farney and this post is dedicated to all of them, but there is a special one, a Loronixer, that I want to mention, which is cvllos. If Dick Farney fans decide to name a leader, cvllos would be the one. I know very well the modus operandi of a fan and I'm wondering cvllos surprise in the morning when opening Loronix with this wonderful and very hard to find Dick Farney album, which is my choice for the last post today.
This is Dick Farney e Seu Trio - Dick Farney no Waldorf (1960), for Odeon. I'm only a little bit disappointed with this cover artwork, on my dreams, this cover had a beautiful photo of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in the night with lights and the name of Dick Farney on yellow. In the other hand, the music is much better than the soundtrack of my dreams with Dick Farney performing a repertoire based on the songs he played during one-year season at Waldorf Astoria, 1957. Dick Farney Trio members were not credited. Tracks include:
01 - These Foolish Things (J. Strachey)
02 - Jeepers Creepers (H. Warren / J. Mercer)
03 - Over The Rainbow (Harold Arlen / E. Y. Harburg)
04 - All Of Me (S. Simons / G. Marks)
05 - You Took Advantage Of Me (R. Rodgers / L. Hart)
06 - You Stepped Out Of a Dream (G. Kahn / N. H. Brown)
07 - Moonlight Becames You (V. Heusen / J. Burke)
08 - Lullaby Of Birdland (G. Shearing / B. Y. Forster)
09 - Waldorf Blues (Dick Farney)
10 - Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)

American Dancing Quartet - My Reverie (1959)
I have been showing this album to several fans of Moacyr Silva and the feedback received was good, with no exception. There is a reason for showing it to Moacyr Silva fans on this "test drive", American Dancing Quartet is supposed to be Moacyr Silva Quartet, although personnel is not credited. This was the second question of the "test drive" and just one friend said no. Anyway, now we can make it to Loronix community, which I urge to use comments to give feedback.
This is American Dancing Quartet - My Reverie (1959), for Prestige. I think only Moacyr Silva can guarantee his participation on My Reverie, unfortunately, he passed away in 2002. My Reverie brings a repertoire with America standards, featuring a quartet based on sax tenor, bass, piano and drums. It is delicious to hear and very well played by the mysterious American Dancing Quartet. Do not let the Dancing title cheats you, this is 100% Jazz music. Tracks include:
01 - Sleepy Lagoon (J. Lawrence / E. Coates)
02 - On The Sunny Side Of The Street (D. Fields / J. McHugh)
03 - My Reverie (L. Clinton)

Viva Voz - Viva Voz (1979)
Hello, Good Evening! I want to make a great start today showing a vocal group from the late 70's that is probably widely unknown among Loronixers. I don't have this album and I would be very glad if someone takes nice cover scans to update this post later. These six friends are truly amazing and they are backed up by a constellation of Brazilian musicians, let's see.
This is Viva Voz - Viva Voz (1979), for Odeon. Viva Voz is a vocal group, active from 1979 until 1984. They started as a sextet leaded by Ary Sperling, having several different formations during their five years of activity. I don't know their second album, but this first is really above the average. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Tô Aqui Te Esperando (Maurício Tapajós / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 - O Trenzinho Caipira (Villa-Lobos / Ferreira Gullar)
03 - A Voz do Brasil (Maurício Tapajós / Aldir Blanc)
04 - Canção Amiga (Milton Nascimento)
05 - Lado do Avêsso (Joyce / Ana Terra)
06 - Conquistador (Maurício Tapajós / Paulo César Pinheiro)

09 - Sabor Impune (Djavan)
10 - Tarja Cravada (Sergio Ricardo)
11 - Bela Bela (Milton Nascimento / Ferreira Gullar)

Joao Gilberto - The Legendary Joao Gilberto (1988)
Joao Gilberto is one of the artists with the strongest association with Bossa Nova. His debut LP, Chega de Saudade, landmarks the birth of Bossa Nova and will make its 50th anniversary next year, 2008. Joao Gilberto is popular as it was 4 decades ago, following the same style throughout five decades. It has been a long time since the last Joao Gilberto LP was released at Loronix and I'm sure this post will end this hiatus with style. Let's see.
This is Joao Gilberto - The Legendary Joao Gilberto (1988), for EMI-Odeon, featuring the first three Joao Gilberto LPs, Chega de Saudade (1958), O Amor o Sorriso e a Flor (1960) and Joao Gilberto (1961) plus the four tracks from EP, Orfeu do Carnaval. We are showing the 1990 World Pacific reissue, CD version. This album was recorded with no authorization by Joao Gilberto and was taken from the stores after a very short legal dispute. Varios Artistas - Instrumental Bossa Nova (1989)
Here we go on another Caetano Rodrigues contribution, actually, highly recommended by Caetano and the kind of album that should be released more often. We do not have a band here, either a main performer, perhaps I'm wrong, but this is just top-notch Brazilian musicians assembled to record instrumental renditions of Bossa Nova tunes. Let's check why this album is Caetano's favorite pick.
This is Instrumental Bossa Nova (1989), for Visom. The fun of this album is to hear performances of classic Bossa Nova tunes by new generation musicians using new recording technologies. Personnel is available bellow, as well tracks. Tracks include:

Lucho Gatica - Inolvidables con Lucho Gatica (1958) with Arturo Castro
Hello, Good Evening! You are probably thinking that your green friend went nuts today opening this rainy Wednesday with a bolero album featuring a Chilean singer. Perhaps I'm nuts, but not for making this album available. Although it does not bring elements of the music from Brazil, this is one of those albums - such like Julie is Her Name and many others - that had a tremendous influence on Brazilian artists that created Bossa Nova as the way we know today.
This post also homage Carlos Braga, a new and already legendary Loronixer. Carlos Braga is one of the most knowledgeable Brazilian music friends at Loronix. He is responsible for this post and Caetano Rodrigues also for providing this album. Carlos Braga is providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to us writing his musical memories and connecting Loronixers at Quadradinho. He is responsible for showing us the way to this album, obscure and perhaps widely unknown, but really influential. I'm gathering from Quadradinho Carlos Braga's words, in Portuguese. English translation is on the way. Carlos, the word is yours:
This is Lucho Gatica - Inolvidables con Lucho Gatica (1958), for Odeon. Loronixers are now invited to make the bridge between Arturo Castro guitar and Bossa Nova through this anthological Lucho Gatica album featuring Arturo Castro (guitar), Victor Ruiz Pazos (bass) and a discrete and not credited percussionist. My special thanks to Carlos Braga, Caetano Rodrigues, Geraldo Picanco (my very good friend and Loronix official tracker of Quadradinho posts) and all Loronix community. Tracks include:
01 - Noite de Ronda
02 - Tu
03 - La Borrachita
04 - Nocturnal
05 - A La Orilla de un Palmar
06 - Por que Llorar

Challenge: Who are these artists?
Breno Sauer Quarteto - 4 no Sucesso (1966)
We had a very disturbed night today with Brazil soccer team playing an important came, IT problems, connection dropping several times. I was afraid of do not making this last post, which is the selection that will be on the first page during the whole day tomorrow. Anyway, Breno Sauer has been discussed by the friends of Quadradinho and also has several fans among Loronixers, we should stay in very good company with his last album as Breno Sauer Quarteto.

Eumir Deodato - Knights of Fantasy (1979)
After the last Eumir Deodato release at Loronix I received several requests for this album, which is probably one of the most unknown Eumir Deodato record. I was lucky to take it from an old vinyl shop for a bargain, as you can see at the post opening picture, the cover has a big hole in the left, but the vinyl was perfect, resulting on very nice digital files. Let's see how Loronixers have to say about this obscure Eumir Deodato album.
This is Eumir Deodato - Knights of Fantasy (1979), for WEA. Eumir Deodato delivers a melt of Jazz-fusion, disco and funk music with nice instrumental performances based on Deodato's compositions and a rendition of Jesus Joy's of Man's Desiring from Johann Sebastian Bach. The album has some killer guitar solos and groovy bass lines with highlight to the track that gives the album name, Knights of Fantasy. Tracks include:
01 - Space Dust (Eumir Deodato) Sherlock (Eumir Deodato)
02 - Shazam (Eumir Deodato)
03 - Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring (Johann Sebastian Bach) Love Is Blue (P. Cour / André Popp) Whistle Bump (Eumir Deodato)
04 - Knights Of Fantasy (Eumir Deodato)
05 - Lovely Lady (Eumir Deodato)

Raul de Souza & Frank Rosolino - Festival Jazz SP (1978)
Hello, Good Evening! Loronixers contributions taken from old K-7 tapes are coming. It is now common. However, it is not possible to make all them, we should have criterion, such as the quality of the sound and at most, the importance and relevance of the music.
Luiz Harding sent this one, meeting everything, amazing sound and a really interesting concert with Raul de Souza and Frank Rosolino performing together on a Brazilian Jazz Festival held in Sao Paulo in 1978. It is a great concert and they have the accompaniment of top-notch musicians. Tracks could be identified with one exception, the last one. This is the first experience with K-7 tapes; feel free to write comments about it. Tracks include:

Orquestra Arco-Iris - Palmas para o Samba! (1963)
Another fantastic Caetano Rodrigues contribution and also an one of a kind album performed by top-notch Brazilian musicians. This cover artwork alone worth the overall experience, Palmas para o Samba! is an orchestra album with an additional feature, palmas (hands clapping) are used throughout the album as a percussion instrument. Different from many instrumental albums of that time, personnel is detailed, except the group of folks that clap hands all the time.
This is Orquestra Arco-Iris - Palmas para o Samba! (1963), for Polydor. Maestro Carioca and Maestro Arcy Barbosa are the leaders of Orquestra Arco-Iris, which is a group of musicians from the cast of the legendary TV Rio - Rio de Janeiro, Canal 13. Azimuth - O Fabuloso Fittipaldi | Trilha Sonora do Filme (1973)
Hello, Good Evening! Starting today with a very requested repost. Actually, not a repost, this album was available at Loronix for a very short period of time and went off-line due some problems with ripping quality. I'm glad that Caetano Rodrigues sent it to us. The music was taken from CD and there will be no bad surprises this time. Thanks Caetano.
This is Azimuth - O Fabuloso Fittipaldi | Trilha Sonora do Filme (1973), for Philips, featuring a very early Azimuth performing Marcos Valle and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions for the Original Soundtrack of O Fabuloso Fittipaldi, a documentary on the legendary race driver Emerson Fittipaldi. The album brings some speech by Emerson Fittipaldi and her wife Maria Helena, but Azimuth performances on top of Marcos and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions are really amazing. I never saw this movie before to see how music blends with film images and as a big Formula 1 fan I'm now very curious to watch it. Tracks include:
01 - Fittipaldi Show (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 - Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 - Vitória (Marcos Valle)
04 - Rindt (Marcos Valle)
05 - Acidente (Marcos Valle)
06 - Vinheta I (Marcos Valle)
07 - Vinheta II (Marcos Valle)
08 - Azimuth (Mil Milhas) (Marcos Valle / Novelli / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 - Tema de Maria Helena (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
10 - Virabrequim (Marcos Valle)

Clara Nunes - Clara Clarice Clara (1972)
It has been almost a year since the last Clara Nunes album was made available at Loronix. Clara Nunes is the favorite of many Loronixers. We made a survey in the very first beginning of Loronix to point out the greatest Brazilian Diva ever and Elis Regina was the winner. My fault to do not include Clara Nunes as an option and I'm sure she would be in the top three if included.
This is Clara Nunes - Clara Clarice Clara (1972), for Odeon. Clara Nunes started her recording career in the late 60's and these first ones are the albums available at Loronix. She started as a romantic singer, making a gradual change to Samba that came to a term with Clara, Clarice, Clara, her first album fully dedicated to the style. Later, Clara Nunes introduced Afro-Brazilian elements to her recordings, such as the use of lyrics based on religions such like Candomble and others. This album was found on MINT conditions and the vinyl was played for the first time this week, everything is fine here, from cover scans to the music. Tracks include:
01 - Sempre Mangueira (Nelson Cavaquinho / Geraldo Queiroz)
02 - Seca do Nordeste (Waldir de Oliveira / Gilberto Andrade)
03 - Alvorada no Morro (Carlos Cachaça / Cartola / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho)
04 - Tempo à Bessa (João Nogueira)
05 - Morena do Mar (Dorival Caymmi) Puxada da Rede do Xaréu (Maria Rosita Salgado Goes)
06 - Ilu Aye (Terra da Vida) (Cabana / Norival Reis)
07 - Opção (Gisa Nogueira)
08 - Anjo Moreno (Candeia)
09 - Tributo aos Orixás (Mauro Duarte / Ruben Tavares)
10 - Último Pau-de-arara (Venâncio / Corumba / José Guimarães) Vendedor de Caranguejo (Gordurinha)
11 - Clarice (Caetano Veloso / Capinan)

Varios Artistas - Festival da Bossa (1965)
Awesome! Wow! Everything works here. Caetano Rodrigues should have a new and not revealed trick on his vinyl transfers. Bossa Nova compilations released in the 60's are really fantastic. I'm glad of asking Caetano to include this album featuring selected songs from Som Maior label cast. You should not miss. I recommend.
This is Festival da Bossa (1965), for Som Maior, featuring 14 songs from the artists of Som Maior cast, including Sambalanco Trio, Sansa Trio, Alaide Costa, Sambrasa Trio, Quarteto do Saba, and many others, no repetitions, 14 songs and 14 artists and groups. Thanks for this one Caetano. I'm including the artists and each group formation, just before tracks. Tracks include:

Conjunto A Voz do Morro - Roda de Samba (1965)
Hello, Good Evening! I'm late and in a big rush today, another great sunny day in Rio de Janeiro. I made an attempt to go to the beach today, my first attempt after a decade or so. The results were... Well, I will tell you later, let's be straightforward with the first post, a Samba post and a "classic" Samba album provided by the mysterious Samba contributor, featuring several Brazilian Samba Legends.
This is Conjunto A Voz do Morro - Roda de Samba (1965), for Musidisc. Such like "Os Cinco Crioulos" released last week, this is a fantastic Samba record that makes you think it was released earlier than its first issue, 1965. Conjunto A Voz do Samba recorded three albums before dismissing and this is the first. The formation varies on each album, but each one brings a constellation of Samba artists. There is a curious story about this first, although the legendary Ze Ketti was the leader of Conjunto A Voz do Morro, he did not took part in this set due his contractual obligations with Philips and his involvement with the launching of Show Opiniao with Nara Leao. Tracks include:

Os Intocaveis - Os Intocaveis (1964)
Sabadabada last update included this album and perhaps Loronixers are already with Os Intocaveis in their collection. However, it is a masterpiece that cannot be a missing piece at Loronix. Additionally, Caetano made a wonderful job on converting from vinyl to digital, as always. This is a truly awesome Samba/Bossa Jazz instrumental piece with not credited musicians as bass, guitar, drums, piano, trombone, flute, oboe, sax baritone and two percussionist and I invite everybody to identify them.
This is Os Intocaveis - Os Intocaveis (1964), for Audio Fidelity. Nice repertoire mixing well-known Bossa Nova standards, Jorge Ben and also international songs. The back cover liner notes is open and honest with us saying that personnel includes excellent musicians, not credited due contract obligations with others record labels, saying also there is a main artist from the cast of another label. Who knows? I don't have a clue. Tracks include:
01 - Por Causa de Você Menina (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
02 - Rio (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
03 - Devagar Com a Louça (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04 - Bossa na Praia (Geraldo Cunha / Pery Ribeiro)
05 - Sukyiaki (R. Ei / H. Nakamura)
06 - Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
07 - Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
08 - Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 - Blame It On The Bossa Nova (Ensinando a Bossa Nova) (C. Weil / B. Mann)
10 - Tim Dom (Clodoaldo Brito / João Mello)
11 - Mondo Cane (M. Ciorciolini / R. Ortolani / N. Oliviero)
12 - Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
