Hello, good evening! Christmas is over and I hope that everybody had a nice time as I did on these two days with my family. The show must go on and I'm pleased and amazed to repost this album released in the very beginning of Loronix, courtesy of our very good new friend Jacob F. from Israel. This album is very important to Loronix, several others websites placed links to this one, creating a continuous referral of new friends to our community. Let's see.
This is Egberto Gismonti & Nana Vasconcelos - Duo Gismonti & Vasconcellos | JazzBuhne Berlin (1984), for Repertoire Record and Tapes. If you take a look at the comment section you will see a nice discussion of several friends about this album, which I did not have idea about when first issued with this improvised cover artwork bellow the original one. Jacob F. made it, and now everything is clear, although I could not understand all the inserts provided by Jacob F. written in Germany. Hermeto Pascoal does not perform at this session as I thought he did. My special thanks to Jacob F. for providing this concert in the lossless FLAC format and for also including all CD booklet on a very easy to read PDF format. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Em Familia (Egberto Gismonti)
02 - Danca das Cabecas (Egberto Gismonti)
03 - O Berimbau (Nana Vasconcellos)
04 - Selva Amazonica (Egberto Gismonti)
05 - Corpo - Salvador (Nana Vasconcellos / Egberto Gismonti)
06 - Danca Solitaire Nr. 1 (Egberto Gismonti)
ReplyDeleteAbraços!
thanks so much--three of my favorite artists on one post!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the personell is:
ReplyDeleteEgberto Gismonti
Hermeto
Palle Danielson: bass
Daniel Humair:drums
Nana Vasconcelos: percussion'
But what year? 1974 or 1984?
Oh, and THANKS!
ReplyDeleteWriterguy,
ReplyDeleteThat's right. This is the line-up.
The concert was in 1994. I'm out of my place right now, I will get through this as I get home.
Bye.
Actually you've got a combination of two different concerts here. I have both, so let me clear it up, if I may.
ReplyDeleteThe first four tracks are from a radio broadcast of the Berlin Jazz Festival, Nov 8, 1975, with Hermeto Pascoal, Daniel Humair, Palle Danielsson and Nana Vasconcelos:
1. German radio introduction (1:54)
2. Alturo do Sol(10:31)
3. Salvador (12:58)
4. Danca das Cabecas (12:00)
The last two tracks are the first two tracks of the Repertoire Records release "Duo - Gismonti-Vasconcelos" which was recorded (also in Berlin) on June 17, 1984.
5. Em Familia (9:34)
6. Danca Das Cabecas (8:22)
The remainder of the tracks from the Repertoire Records CD are not included here.
Hope this helps clear it up!
Oi amigo, venho sempre aqui...

ReplyDeleteNice to know that. This record is one of Loronix favorites. Many friends from several countries are coming daily to watch this LP.
Have a nice stay.

I do not trust the titles here on this record. I myself have recorded it from the RIAS Berlin broadcast and i came to others titles. Anyway i never became this cover/record to see in my live (and i cherched a lot for it). There is a producer in german that love to mistitle the stuff that he "produces" Ok thanks for it and the PDF infos (since informations about the records are not the maxime of this blog) :-) Hey A very Happy New Year fo Zé Calouro also to the Papagaio and all of you outthere.
ReplyDeleteUm beijinho
I like the music of Naná Vasoncelos and Egberto Gismonti very much. And I love a mistery! So, a big thank you for offering me plenty of both. I found on my hard disk an earlier version of this post. Looks like I downloaded it in March 2008. It's at 128 kbps and the first track, called Em Família consists only of the speaker's introduction of the musicians. Now Google has brougt me back to the same post (updated it seems) when I was researching another volume of the Jazzbühne series (Vol. 7 - Abdullah Ibrahim). It seems we now have the real recording, we know that the musicians involved are 'only' Egberto Gismonti and Naná Vasconcelos. Thanks to all involved for clearing up this mystery.
ReplyDeleteThere remains one only one question. In the main post, there is talk of a FLAC version. What I got from clicking the download links is mp3 @ 320 kbps, which is very good, but it isn't FLAC. Is this a misunderstanding on my part, or was I clicking the wrong links?
One little piece of information that hasn't been mentioned before. At the beginning of track 1, Naná cites the "Newly-Weds Song" by Jim Pepper.
Grande abraço.
