This is Orlandivo - Orlandivo (1977), for Copacabana, released in the middle of the Saturday Night Fever discotheque boom, a weird time to Brazilian popular music, when things such like Bossa Nova was only a vague and distant event, in spite of having this peak only a decade before. Perhaps nobody gave attention to this album by the release time and this is a wonderful demonstration on how to make dancing music with a very good quality.
Joao Donato is in charge of arrangements, delivering also his undisputed groovy piano playing on Fender Rhodes, organ, piano and clavinet. Additionally, Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti from Azymuth were also in this session, everything detailed at personnel listing, just before tracks. Tracks include:

ReplyDeleteTudo Joia !
ReplyDeleteWhat a fine collection of songs on this album.
I found a European re-issue from this gem on CD , and have added my favorite track , "A Felicidade" , to many private samba-compilations for friends ... the warm chords on the Fender-Rhodes by João Donato sound indeed great like Avocado Kid posted here above.
And what a line-up of musicians on this session , including indeed Alexandre é Mamão from the legendary Azimüth/Azymuth , like you mentioned.
In the cd-booklet from the re-issue which i found from this album , is written a funny story about Orlandivo who stayed at one of the musician's or producer's houses during the recording-sessions.
At one point , it seemed that that there was less to zero food in the house , with maybe the exception of some eggs.
The story goes that Orlandivo made a tiny hole in the eggs , and sucked them empty , lol , followed by a furious rage of the other musician or producer from the house where Orlandivo stayed.
Saludos !
Sander
I'd love to see the back cover. Is that available?
Remasterizado.
ReplyDeleteMOFO
love, love love this album. Thanks Zeca !
ReplyDeleteThis album has been legendary among vinyl-Brazilophiles for a long time. It's been bootlegged so many times!! I still have a CD from the 90s where you hear the needle drop on the record before the first track starts. Very funny. Truly a classic album.
ReplyDeleteMeu nome Decaro servi o quartel com orlandivo no primeiro grupo de canhos automaticos anti-aéreo 40 em 1956 e queria saber como falar com ele e com o ele se encontra
