Jack Wilson - Jack Wilson Plays Brazilian Mancini (1965)

This record came to my attention by one of the earliest Loronixers, Tom, which runs a blog that was one of zecalouro's inspirations to release Loronix, The Bossa Nova Music at http://bossanovadreamer.blogspot.com/

Tom came with this recommendation of this LP that zecalouro did not realize it was so rare and unique additionally, it is the first non-Brazilian LP posted at Loronix.

A Bossa Nova collectors pursuit, meet Jack Wilson - Jack Wilson Plays Brazilian Mancini (1965) with Jack Wilson (piano), Roy Ayers (vibraphone), Tony Brazil (guitar), Chico Batera and Sebastiao Neto (bass, drums and percussion). A wonderful Jazz LP with all tracks composed by Henri Mancini.

The reason this LP is being posted is by a unique fact, The Special Guest Artist Tony Brazil on Guitar is Antonio Carlos Jobim, using a pseudonym, for a reason that zecalouro does not know, Tom had to be credited like this.

  1. Dear Zecalouro,
thank you so much for your attention-it is very nice from you!!

Perhaps the reason that Jobim played as Tony Brazil on this recording was because of his contrcat with another label during this time.

    Best wishes
    Tom

  2. Hello Tom,

Thanks again for showing zecalouro the way to this nice LP. This is not the first time we see an artist playing on a competitor label using a nickname.

Perhaps today they should make contracts saying that the artist cannot record out with nicknames. World changes.

  5. Marco,

  8. This is a real find for Mancini fans like myself. I had seen the album listed but despaired of ever hearing it. Jack Wilson made superb albums for Blue Note and Atlantic during this period. I only wish this record were longer, but the selections are fabulous. I especially loved "Softly" and "Lujon." Thanks so very much for this wonderful rarity. Is that really Jobim playing under a pseudonym?

  9. Hello David,

Sure. This is Jobim. As "Tony Brazil" due contract obligations.

  10. Hehehe, por isso o ultimo album chama-se Antonio Carlos Brasileiro? Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, né? Tony Brazil
