Os Ipanemas - Os Ipanemas (1964)

I have been managing some hardware changes at Loronix and Murphy's Law seems to be around. Perhaps my fault. If something is working fine, don't change it. Anyway, it was a necessary change, nothing that you will see the impact; it was a simple change according with my financial possibilities.

This is one of several reasons to start the day reposting another true classic from the old times. People say that I'm a lucky guy and I'm starting to agree. I got this album for an unbelievable price, so cheap that I feel embarrassed to say here, which is something that makes me happy and I hope Loronixers also feel happy. Improvements are countless, from cover art scans, music and the availability of the new FLAC alternative, let's see.

This is Os Ipanemas - Os Ipanemas (1964), for Columbia, a unique and killer set of Bossa Jazz with Afro Influences, featuring the traditional bass and drums with the addition of Astor Silva trombone, Neco's guitar and Ruben Bassini percussion. Astor Silva is probably the leader of Os Ipanemas, which is a constellation of Brazilian musicians that recorded this first and only album for Columbia. Os Ipanemas were assembled 40 years later for another recordings and different formation, but never could reach what was done in this first 1964 release. Tracks include:

Personnel

Astor Silva
(trombone)
Marinho

Wilson das Neves

Neco
(guitar)

  2. I have no idea who Astor Silva is but he gets my vote for the Downbeat Jazz Poll on trombone for the year 1966. I can't think of a better album for this mercifully mild August day. A heartfelt Thanks. My glass (of lemonade) is raised to you.

You need to get a new IP address to skip this waiting time. It is the only manner, besides going Rapidshare Premium.

  9. Great re-post! Legendary afro-bossa from Os Ipanemas, featuring brilliant musicians. There is another 64 album credited to Eumir Deodato/Os Catedáticos ("Samba Nova Concepção") that has a similar line-up and has Neco as arranger (it's crime that he was not credited as the main artist). A great companion piece for those who love Os Ipanemas debut.
