Sonia Rosa - A Bossa Rosa de Sonia (1968)

It is time to meet a rare LP from the Brazilian singer Sonia Rosa - tender voice and sweet bossa tunes with her acoustic guitar backed up by Chiquinho Moraes. Everything is gentle on this LP, sometimes jazzy with a bit of SambaJazz accompaniment by Chiquinho.

Sonia Rosa - A Bossa Rosa de Sonia Rosa (1968) was released when she was 18 years old, including six original songs written by Sonia. That's amazing. There is no much information about Sonia and zecalouro was not old enough in the 60's to realize if she was appreciated well here in Brazil or not.

Sonia went to Japan when she was 20 years old and did not return to Brazil. Maybe our Japanese friends can talk a little bit more about Sonia Rosa. Tracks includes:

01 - Olhe Meu Bem
02 - Marambaia
03 - Voltar para Ficar
04 - Quem te Viu, Quem te Ve
05 - Parquinho do Meu Bairro
06 - Lata D'Agua
07 - Adeus Guacyra
08 - Mas nao Da
09 - Cheiro de Saudade
10 - E Fim
11 - Caminhemos
12 - Ressalva

  2. Man I've been trying to find more info on her. She's almost an enigma to me. I fell in love with her voice while listening to the Chill Brazil cd series. I dont even know where to buy a copy of her original cd.

  3. Myles,

I'm sure that she left Brazil to Japan and did not come back. Perhaps our Loronixers on Japan can bring more clarification on that.

She recorded more 2 or 3 albums and they are probably out of print.

BTW.: take a look at this website with some news from her. http://www.interq.or.jp/rabbit/aloysius/voice/rosa.html

  4. Thanks I appreciate it. I can't read it though. :( Even through a translator it's hard to decipher.

  7. Hello,
Sonia Rosa is still pursuing her career as a singer in Japan.
Last year she appeared in the CD dedicated to the Japanese TV animation "Lupin the 3rd" (Do you know it?) and covered some theme songs in a Bossa Nova way.
If you have a Japanese iTMS account, you may be able to listen to them. It's pretty fascinating.

Well, please keep on letting us know the beautiful and great Brazilian music! Thank you.

  8. I can't believe I am saying this.

I love Sonia Rosa's singing and music better than my long-time bossa nova love, Astrud Gilberto.

I have got to have more Sonia Rosa!

    Thanks for this album!!
