Waldir Calmon e sua Orquestra - Mambos! (1959)

It has been 24 years since we lost Waldir Calmon, one of the artists that zecalouro receives several emails requesting and suggesting posts. Our Brazilian friends with more than 30 years old certainly have listen several times at the movies the song Na Cadencia do Samba, which was the background music of a soccer show exhibited before the main attraction.

It came to my attention it was Waldir Calmon music only when I started Loronix. Shame on this green bird.

This is Waldir Calmon e Sua Orquestra - Mambos! (1959) a reissue of a 10' from 1955 with additional four songs taken from Mambos Nr2 (1957). This record was reissued for Copacabana in the 90's. Tracks include:

01 - Silbando Mambo (Perez Prado)
02 - Mambo Nº 5 (Perez Prado)
03 - Un Meneito Na'ma (Margaritta Guerra)
04 - Adios (Margaritta Guerra)
05 - Mambos Charleston (Salvador Rangel)
06 - Cumaná (Barclay Allen - H. Spina - R. Hillman)
07 - Mambo En España (Ramon Marquez)
08 - Mambo Nº 8 (Perez Prado)
09 - Universitário (Perez Prado)

  2. Was für eine unglaubliche schmissige Scheibe!
    Unfassbar gut!

    Danke, zecalouro

  5. Nice one, thank you!

Btw a dutch orchestra leader, Nico Gomez played Perez Prado's mambos (e.g. Mambo No. 5 & 8 from this LP) with his orchestra in an especially good way, for example - beside a compilation released by dutch record company JDL - on this LP: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:jpfpxqyaldje
    ... and Nico Gomez had a 'Bossa Nova'-titled LP too: http://www.amazon.com/Bossa-Nova-%C3%91ico-Gomez/dp/B000060N27 ;-)
