I think that most of the thrill about the forgotten Brazilian music from the past and Loronix is the lack of information about the LPs released, making people decide to make their own research to give later feedback. This is the real fun about Loronix.
That's why I decided to do not praise for the extra help of Caetano Rodrigues to present another nice released just provided the last week, Ely Arcoverde e Seu Conjunto - Musicas para o Seu Relax (196?), for Fama, the release date is probably between 1966 and 1972, musicians on the set were not listed. As a matter of fact, Ely Arcoverde is another Brazilian organist with some other releases at Loronix. This LP is all about its title, Music for your Relaxation, very nice to listen with Ely Arcoverde organ sounding dusty like those Hammond B-3 that I hope get one someday, who knows? Tracks include:
01 - No Balanço do Eumir (Ely Arcoverde)
02 - Tempo de Ser (Ely Arcoverde)
03 - Nunca Mais Direi Adeus (Ely Arcoverde)
04 - Sou Eu (Sergio Augusto)
05 - Minha Sombra (Beto Ruschel Filho)
06 - Ela Vai Ver (Candinho / Luis Fernando Freire)
07 - E Nada Mais (Durval Ferreira)
08 - Meu Todo Bem (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)
09 - Engano (Beto Ruschel Filho)
10 - Mais Uma Vez (Sergio Augusto / Luis Fernando Freire)
11 - Dois Sóis (Beto Ruschel Filho)
12 - Meu Caminho É Você (Ely Arcoverde)

Miltinho - Samba + Samba = Miltinho (1966)
Today is Saturday, all about happiness, a day where we can go to bed late and wake up the next days with no alarms or agendas. I'm coming back home and spent some time at a bar hearing some nice dudes from my neighbor playing cavaquinho, percussion and a beautiful trombone. Really nice.
This was helpful to decide this post, this is Miltinho - Samba + Samba = Miltinho (1966), for Odeon, Miltinho first LP for Odeon. It has been a guaranteed entertainment all Samba records with the participation of Nelsinho do Trombone, this is not an exception, Samba + Samba = Miltinho is directed by the first class Maestro Lyrio Panicali with orchestra arranged and conduced by Nelsinho do Trombone and Lyrio Panicali, another great brass duel, such like the last Elza Soares release with the same Nelsinho do Trombone.
I think this is another record that will please our very good friend Jean do Trombone, a Brazilian Loronixer and also a great trombonist that lives today in France. Jean this is for you, friend. Tracks include:
01 - E o Juiz Apitou (Antônio Almeida / Wilson Batista) -- Juraci (Antônio Almeida / Ciro de Souza) -- O Que É Que Eu Dou (Antônio Almeida / Dorival Caymmi)
02 - Amuleto (Herivelto Martins / Klécius Caldas)
03 - Quase (Herivelto Martins / Klécius Caldas)
04 - Samba Maroto (Luis Reis)

06 - Aleluia de Um Imenso Amor (Silvino Neto)
07 - Viver Assim (Pedal) -- Não Convém (Nilton Ferreira) -- O Chegar da Primavera (Niltinho / Luis Henrique) -- Roda de Samba (Dida)

10 - Exaltação do Sonho (Claudionor Cruz / Pedro Caetano)

Forma 66 - Various Artists (1967)
Hi again! Good night! First of all, I want to admit that I'm now "converted" to Varios Artists records. It is impossible to ignore the last Caetano Rodrigues contribution to Loronixers with a great set of the best VAs LPs I have ever seen. If you got amazed with the last Forma 65 LP, you should not miss this one, I was saving this release for later, but I could not resist.
Meet Forma 66 - Various Artists (1967), for Forma, in my humble opinion, much better than the first one, Forma 65. Forma 66 is self-explanatory and for additional understanding, I’m listing details of each track and its associated performers. Some of these tracks are not available on previous recording releases, as follows:

Luiz de Eca - Um Piano na Madrugada (1956)
Perhaps zecalouro is happy with the good news received today, Loronix Store, just opened, very important to guarantee Loronix up-and-running. The new equipment I received to bring more music to Loronix. Anyway, I so happy that I decided to pick some rare picks from Caetano Rodrigues to share with Loronix and celebrate December and Christmas.
Meet this very hard to find LP, Luiz Eca - Um Piano na Madrugada (1956), for Copacabana, the second Eca LP'10, released after Uma Noite no Plaza (1955), already available at Loronix. Um Piano na Madrugada is exactly what the title is about. I do not drink, but when I hear this record, I feel that mood of going to a nightclub to hear a piano and drink whiskey. Nice atmosphere.
Um Piano na Madrugada is Luiz Eca (piano), Ed Lincoln, Vidal (bass) and Juquinha (drums). Thanks once again Caetano, Loronixers will get really pleased with this release. Tracks include:
01 - Secret Love (Fain / Paul Francis Webster)
02 - Molambo (Jaime Florence "Meira" / Augusto Mesquita)
03 - If I Had You (Shapiro / Campbell / Connelly)
04 - Inspiração (Henrique Hazan)
05 - Na Madrugada (Nilo Sergio)
06 - Felicidade (Garoto / Haroldo Barbosa)
07 - Você Não Sabe Amar (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima)
08 - Out Of Nowhere (J. W. Green / E. Heyman)

Joao & His Bossa Kings - Cool Samba (196?) aka JT Meirelles
Among the several wonderful Bossa Nova LPs that Caetano sent to Loronixers last week, I'm picking up this amazing and obscure instrumental Bossa Jazz LP, which is Joao and His Bossa Kings - Cool Samba (196?), for Battle - USA, I'm wondering if Battle gave this name "Joao" to this release to cheat people and make everybody think it was a Joao Gilberto release.
Actually Joao is the mighty Brazilian sax player JT Meirelles that made this LP to Battle full of short instrumental tracks that does not least more than two minutes each. JT Meirelles (alto sax and flute) has the accompaniment of Silvio Lopez (trumpet), Antonio Oliveira (piano), Manoel Gusniao (bass), Jayme Storino (drums) and Amauri Rodrigues (percussion). Tracks include:
01 - So Danco Samba
02 - Samba Sem Nome
03 - Se Teus Olhos Falassem
04 - Batucada
05 - Conselho a Quem Quiser
06 - Solucao
07 - Carnival Meddley
08 - Gostoso e Sambar
09 - Nacao Nago
10 - Samba Toff
11 - Essa Neguinha sem Sandalia
12 - Ilha do Amor
13 - Ritmos Carnivalescos Improvisatos

Joao do Vale - Joao do Vale (1981)
This is the last LP released by Joao do Vale, which is the artist that performed Show Opiniao with Ze Ketti and Nara Leao. Ok! I don't need to say that Nara Leao is also a special guest here, but not only Nara Leao, Joao do Vale left the cast of Brazilian recording companies empty to record this LP, which is Joao do Vale - Joao do Vale (1981), for CBS, with the participation of Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Nara Leao, Clara Nunes, Amelinha, Luiz Gonzaga Jr, Fagner, Jackson do Pandeiro and Alceu Valenca.
The arrangements are also top-notch, Jose Briamonte - tracks 01, 09, 10, 11 and 12, Joao Donato - track 02, Ze Ramalho - tracks 03 and 07, Fagner - track 04 and Chico Buarque - track 08. Thanks Mr. X. for another nice release, Joao do Valle had a great reception with his first release at Loronix. Tracks include:
01 - Na Asa do Vento (Luis Vieira / João do Vale)
02 - Pé do Lajeiro (Aonde a Onça Mora) (João do Vale / José Cândido) - with Tom Jobim

The Lovers - Lover (1961)
Hello, Good Night! It is alive! Loronix Store is now open with unique merchandise to Loronix. It's been a hard days night to get it ready for today. Let's talk about Loronix Store later. This is The Lovers - Lovers (1961), for Nilser, the Nilo Sergio's Musidisc subsidiary that always brings wonderful covers and also mysteries to be solved.
According with Sombras - http://www.sombras.com.br - The Lovers is a group lead by Ed Lincoln. Actually, it is easy to "feel" Ed Lincoln touch throughout the LP. The linear notes have only technical information about the recording technology with no Personnel listing. In spite the always-wonderful Nilser covers, this lack of information is what makes these recordings so appealing. Tracks include:
01 - Now And Forever (Gabier / Kaempfert)
02 - Makin' Whoopee (G. Kahn / W. Donaldson)
03 - You Are My Lucky Star (A. Freed / N. H. Brown)
04 - Stairway To The Stars (M. Parish / M. Malneck / F. Signorelli)
05 - Funny Talk (Bruescwitz / Kaempfert)
06 - You'll Never Know H Warren
07 - Poema (Fibich)
08 - I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You (Bassman / Washington)
09 - Come September (B. Darin)
10 - So In Love (Cole Porter)
11 - Noturno (Frederic Chopin)
12 - Just You Just Me

Elza Soares - Com a Bola Branca (1966)
Friends, what a wonderful record. I was decided to keep Flicts as the last post for several reasons, but when I was just getting ready to rest, hear some music and plan tomorrows posts, I took this LP for a listen and I could not resist to be back and present Elza Soares - Com a Bola Branca (1966), for Odeon.
It has been a very long time since the last Elza Soares release at Loronix, but now she is back to the spotlight on a great style. This LP is arranged by Nelsinho do Trombone that makes a nice brass duel with Elza's harsh voice in all tracks. Since I could not make any research on this LP, I will be straightforward. Tracks include:
01 - Quizumba (Serrinha)
02 - Estatuto de Gafieira (Billy Blanco)
03 - Nem Vem Nem Vai (Sinval Silva)
04 - No Carnaval (Mendes)
05 - Jogado Fora (João Mello)
06 - A Vida Como Ela É (Julio Dias de Castro)
07 - A Infelicidade (Mauro Duarte / Niltinho)
08 - Deixa a Nega Gingar (Luis Cláudio)
09 - Brincadeira Tem Hora (Mário Castro Neves / Chico Feitosa)
10 - Volta Pro Morro (Manoel Ferreira / Célio Cyrino)
11 - Meu Tudo e Porque (Carlito / Romeo Nunes)
12 - Tudo É Balanço (Niquinho / Nilton Pereira)

Quarteto em Cy, MPB-4, Ziraldo e Sergio Ricardo - Flicts (1980)
When someone had asked at CBox for this soundtrack a couple of days ago, I could not imagine it was so good. This is Quarteto em Cy, MPB-4, Ziraldo e Sergio Ricardo - Flicts (1980), for Philips. Flicts is based on the first Ziraldo book written for children in 1969, the story of a color that could not find its place in this world.
The book is truly amazing; Ziraldo used lots of colors and a minimum of words. The U.S. Embassy in Brazil gave a copy of the book to the American astronauts that first stepped on the moon when they visited Brazil. Neil Armstrong, one of the astronauts, was touched when he read the book, and wrote to Ziraldo: "The moon is FLICTS".
Ziraldo is really a lucky guy. Flicts has a top-notch personnel listing that I invite you to take a careful look before getting tracks.

Som Imaginario - Som Imaginario (1971)
This post is for some reasons out of Loronix "style", but this record and this band is so amazing and so influent that I think I have the obligation to introduce you to Som Imaginario - Som Imaginario (1971), for Odeon, as a matter of fact, another Mr. G. release and Mr. G. does not goes wrong easily.
Som Imaginario is considered a Jazz band, but others say that Som Imaginario is a progressive band. I'm a political bird; so let's say that Som Imaginario is Rock with Jazz and Progressive influences. They released three LPs; this is the second one with Wagner Tiso (piano), Luiz Alves (bass), Robertinho Silva (drums), Frederiko (guitar) and Tavito (guitar), all renowned musicians with successful careers after dismissing the band. Thanks Mr. G. for another fine release. Tracks include:
01 - Cenouras (Frederiko)
02 - Você Tem Que Saber (Chico Lessa / Márcio Borges)
03 - Gogó (O Alívio Rococó) (Wagner Tiso / Frederiko)
04 - Ascenso (Frederiko / Fernando Brant)
05 - Salvação Pela Macrobiótica (Frederiko)
06 - Uê (Chico Lessa / Márcio Borges)
07 - Xmas Blues (Frederiko)
08 - A Nova Estrela (Wagner Tiso / Frederiko)

Orquestra Tropical - Big Parada (1969)
Hello, Good Night! Let's start the day addressing a request from the mighty sabadabada, which is the owner of one of the pioneers Brazilian music sanctuaries at the Internet, the sabadabada.com. This is Orquestra Tropical - Big Parada (1969), for Forma.
There is an interesting fact about this LP, there is another "Big Parada" for Elenco with the same cover artwork with just a change in the color, which is blue. I was about to post the Elenco LP by mistake, so similar the cover is. This LP has two acclaimed Brazilian musicians in charge of production and arrangements, Roberto Menescal and Maestro Erlon Chaves. Thanks to Mr. D&C that once again made his collaboration opening his ark to provide this LP to Loronixers. Tracks include:
01 - Menininha do Portão (Nonato Buzar / Paulinho Tapajós)
02 - Aquele Abraço (Gilberto Gil)
03 - I Started a Joke (R. Gibb / B. Gibb / M. Gibb)
04 - Pra Que Dinheiro (Martinho da Vila)
05 - Sorridimi (Pallavicini / Mescoli)
06 - My Cherie Amour (Cosby / Stevie Wonder / Moy)
07 - País Tropical (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
08 - Rain In My Heart (Randazzo / Pike)
09 - Que Pena (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
10 - Regina e o Mar (Ronnie Von / Arnaldo Saccomani)
11 - Casaco Marrom (Renato Correia / Guarabyra / Danilo Caymmi)
12 - My Way (François / Revaux)

Os Cariocas - Os Cariocas de Quatrocentas Bossas (1965)
This LP is a missing piece even to long time Bossa Nova collectors, really. I cannot count how many times Os Cariocas - Os Cariocas de Quatrocentas Bossas (1965), for Philips, was requested, but I'm sure that many friends were waiting for this release.
Os Cariocas de 400 Bossas is an important milestone to Os Cariocas career, being the first LP to have a great acceptance by the public and media. I'm not sure of what the four hundred means, but it seems to be a reference of the 400th anniversary of Rio de Janeiro City. I will do my best being a good bird and I hope to see the 500th anniversary of this amazing city with the age of 100 years old. Tracks include:
PS.: This cover is outstanding, simple and efficient. Philips is gradually taking my preference on cover artworks, the last Quinteto Violado release also had a nice Philips cover.
01 - Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Paulo Sergio Valle / Marcos Valle)
02 - Veja Lá (Baden Powell / Luis Fernando Freire)
03 - Sabe Você (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 - Vê (Roberto Menescal / Luis Fernando Freire)
05 - Rio 1800 (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 - Carro de Boi (Maurício Tapajós / Antônio Carlos de Brito)
07 - Exaltação à Mangueira (Enéas Brites da Silva / Aloísio Augusto da Costa) -- Copacabana (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro) -- Valsa de Uma Cidade (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
08 - A Paz do Homem Só (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
09 - Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
10 - Jôgo do Navio (Zé Rosendo)
11 - Tema Pra Oito (Severino Filho)

Quinteto Violado - Quinteto Violado (1972)
I swear it was accidentally, another LP with Nara Leao as special guest on two tracks. I promise, for the next two weeks I will skip future releases with Nara Leao as special guest. Anyway, let's forget these coincidences to take a special attention to this release. This is Quinteto Violado - Quinteto Violado (1972), for Philips, the debut LP of this unique Brazilian band from the 70's that is active until today.
This post was generated by a conversation with Refer, who suggested - correctly - some more regional music releases at Loronix with a few selected picks. We cannot go wrong with Quinteto Violado, an instrumental band that mixes standard instruments with primitives ones, such as: arremedo, matraca, ganza, etc. If this is your first time with Quinteto Violado, do not miss, it is a unique experience. Personnel for this LP is Marcelo Melo (acoustic guitar), Fernando Filizola (viola), Luciano Pimentel (percussion), Toinho Alves (bass) e Sando (fluete). The last two tracks are bonus track from the Fontana's 1979 reissue. Tracks include (does not includes the bonus tracks).
01 - Asa Branca (Luis Gonzaga / Humberto Teixeira)
02 - Freviola (Marcelo Melo)
03 - Santana (Fernando Filizola)
04 - Reflexo (Luciano Pimentel / Fernando Filizola / Toinho Alves)
05 - Imagens do Recife (Deda / Marcelo Melo / Toinho Alves)
06 - Roda de Ciranda (Marcelo Melo / Toinho Alves)
07 - Baião da Garoa (Luis Gonzaga / Hervé Cordovil)
08 - Acauã (Zé Dantas)
09 - Marcha Nativa dos Índios Quiriris (Toinho Alves / Marcelo Melo)
10 - Vozes da Seca (Luis Gonzaga / Zé Dantas)
11 - Agreste (Fernando Filizola / Sando)

Carioca e Sua Orquestra de Metais - Sambas em Brasa (1961)
This is in a particular homage for a friend that I made with Loronix, a great friend that lives more than 4 hours ahead of Brazilian time and it is here every night, waiting for the last post, exchanging ideas using email or IM and sometimes ending his day at the end of mine, which is around 2 or 3am. Does he ever sleep?
This friend blows brass instruments and will be really pleased with this release, this is Carioca e Sua Orquestra de Metais - Sambas em Brasa (1961), for Musidisc, Maestro Carioca LPs are consistent from start to the end, full of swing with brass assembled as an orchestra. There is nothing else to say about it, guaranteed entertainment. Tracks include:
01 - Samba Em Brasa (Ivan Paulo da Silva "Carioca")
02 - Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves)
03 - Nunca Mais (Ed Lincoln / Silvio César)
04 - Amanhã Eu Vou (Nilo Sergio)
05 - Parti (Ed Lincoln / Silvio César)
06 - Três Horas da Manhã (J. Robledo)
07 - Ginga Nº 7 (Ivan Paulo da Silva "Carioca")

11 - Pergunte ao João (Helena Silvia / Milton Costa)
12 - Ondas do Danúbio (Ivanovici)

Sidney Miller - Sidney Miller (1967)
Hello, Good Night! I cannot remember who asked my attention by shouting at CBox a few days ago to include a never released artist at Loronix. It was a really nice suggestion that I'm addressing with Sidney Miller - Sidney Miller (1967), for Elenco, the debut LP of this celebrated composer that was never properly recognized by the industry or public.
Sideny Miller released just three LPs and this is the first one. It has the participation of Nara Leao on two tracks, which is something that coincidentally is happening daily. Sidney Miller died in 1980 in the very early age of 45 years. As a tribute, Funarte, a Brazilian government culture institution, created a Theatre in Rio de Janeiro with his name, Sala Funarte Sidney Miller. AMG bio is being provided, with tracks.
01 - A Estrada e o Violeiro (Sidney Miller) - with Nara Leão
02 - Maria Joana (Sidney Miller)
03 - Marré-de-cy (Sidney Miller)
04 - Argumento (Sidney Miller)
05 - Minha Nega (Sidney Miller)
06 - Botequim Nº 1 (Sidney Miller)
07 - O Circo (Sidney Miller)
08 - Meu Violão (Sidney Miller)
09 - Passa Passa Gavião (Sidney Miller)
10 - Chorinho do Retrato (Sidney Miller)
11 - Menina da Agulha (Sidney Miller) - with Nara Leão
12 - Pede Passagem (Sidney Miller)
Sidney Miller was an impressive composer of some jewels (recorded by several important artists) who never aroused a bigger interest from the recording industry in spite of having been a very popular artist at historic festivals. His compositions have been recorded by Nara Leão, MPB-4, Quarteto em Cy, Caetano Veloso, Alaíde Costa, and Gal Costa.
A self-taught composer, his first samba (with Zé Keti and Paulo Tiago), "Queixa," won fourth place at TV Excelsior's I FMPB (São Paulo, SP, 1965), interpreted by Ciro Monteiro. In 1966, Nara Leão pioneered, recording unknown sambistas (who would be famous) like him and Paulinho da Viola, Chico Buarque, and Jards Macalé on her Nara Pede Passagem. The first LP by Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa, Domingo, had his "Maria Joana."
In that year, Sidney joined a historic reunion at Sérgio Ricardo's home, where Gil and Caetano tried to convince him, Edu Lobo, Dori Caymmi, Chico Buarque, Francis Hime, Paulinho da Viola, Torquato Neto, and Capinam to join the Tropicalia movement. In 1967, his "A Estrada e o Violeiro" was awarded for Best Lyrics at TV Record's III FMPB, defended by Nara Leão and Miller. In the same year, he recorded his first LP, Sidney Miller (Elenco), which had "A Estrada e o Violeiro" (with Nara Leão), "Maria Joana," "Marré-de-Cy," "Argumento," "O Circo," "Menina da Agulha," and "Pede Passagem," among others.
Miller also wrote songs for the play Arena conta Tiradentes (Augusto Boal/Gianfrancesco Guarnieri), which also had music by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. The album was recorded by Nara Leão for the Cia. Brasileira de Discos in 1967 had "Maria Joana," "O Circo," and "Passa Passa Gavião." In 1968, he produced João de Barros' show Yes, nós Temos Braguinha, and Marlene's return show, Carnavália. That year, he also won first place at the Festival de Juiz de Fora MG, with "Sem Assunto" (recorded by two members of the future Quarteto em Cy, Cybele and Cylene). Also in 1968, he recorded his second LP for Elenco, Brasil, do Guarani ao Guaraná. Those were the Tropicalia times and this work is heavily Tropicalia-influenced, circumstance that made him later criticize this work. In 1969, he wrote the soundtrack of Paulo Tiago's film Senhores da Terra, took part in the show Alice no País do Divino Maravilhoso, produced Nara Leão's album Coisas Desse Mundo (Philips), and produced her show at the Sucata nightclub (Rio).
In 1971, he wrote the soundtrack for Haroldo Marinho Barbosa's movie Vida de Artista. The next year, he wrote music for the play Por Mares Nunca Dantes Navegados by Orlando Miranda. In 1973, he wrote the soundtrack of Ovelha Negra, a film by Haroldo Marinho Barbosa, and the music for the play A Torre em Concurso by Joaquim Manuel de Macedo. In 1974, he recorded the LP Línguas de Fogo (Som Livre), with "Cicatrizes," "Um dia Qualquer," "Línguas de Fogo," "Dos Anjos," "Alô," "Pala-Palavra," and others. The posthumous LP released by Funarte in the '80s (no date mentioned), Sidney Miller, brought "Maria Joana," "Nós os Foliões," "O Circo," "Menina da Agulha" (interpreted by Zé Luiz and Alaíde Costa), "Paisagem Sobre Valsa" (Alaíde Costa), "Pois é, Prá Quê?" (Zezé Gonzaga, Alaíde Costa, and Zé Luiz), and "A Estrada e o Violeiro" (Sidney Miller and Nara Leão).
Paulinho da Viola included "Nós, os Foliões" on his 1982 LP A Toda Hora Rola uma História. MPB-4 recorded "Pois é, pra Quê?" and "Meu Violão." Together, Quarteto em Cy and MPB-4 also recorded "A Estrada e o Violeiro." Sidney Miller has a song and his name cobbled into the sidewalk of Vila Isabel, Rio, together with Noel Rosa.

Nara Leao, Ze Ketti e Joao do Valle - Show Opiniao (1965)
This is another anthologic Brazilian show from the 60's, considered by many one of the most important one. Performed in 1965, Show Opiniao went public during the first year of military dictatorship and was lead by Nara Leao together with Ze Keti and Joao do Vale, perhaps one of the most important manifestations against the new regime.
Meet, Nara Leao, Ze Ketti e Joao do Vale - Show Opiniao (1965), for Philips, directed by Dori Caymmi and recorded live in August, 23rd, 1965. Self-explanatory release, as I said, one of the most important shows from the 60's and a mandatory item on any Brazilian music collector. Tracks include:

Sylvio Vianna e Seu Conjunto - Rio a Noite (1963)
Sometimes I receive emails or people reach me on-line at IM programs with a common fear, which is: "When you will run out of records at Loronix?" my answer is "I'm not afraid about this for the next decade!". I'm talking serious. Once in a while I got surprised with new artists that are ready to be released for the first time at Loronix.
That's exactly what happens with this LP, meet Sylvio Vianna e Seu Conjunto - Rio a Noite (1963), for RCA, the first Sylvio Vinna LP at Loronix. Sylvio Vianna is another Brazilian organist and I could not find much information about him, except that his records are sought among collectors at international action sites and shops. I had a lot of fun with zecalouro (the parrot) and this LP today; it is dancing, very swinging. I'm quite sure that you will also have a lot of fun. Tracks include a long, single and gorgeous side A and standard tracks on side B, as follow:
PS.: This LP has that Rio nightclub atmosphere from the 60’s that I like very much!
01 - Música Maestro (Arlindo Marques Júnior / Roberto Roberti) -- Recordar (Aldacir Louro / Aloísio Marins / Adolfo Macedo) -- O Trem Atrazou (Arthur Villarinho / Estanislau Silva / Paquito) -- Atire a Primeira Pedra (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago) -- General da Banda (Sátiro de Melo / Tancredo Silva / José Alcides) -- Império do Samba (Zé da Zilda / Zilda do Zé) -- Tumba Lê L~e (Francisco Neto / Nilton Neves / J. Reis) -- Helena Helena (Antônio Almeida / Constantino Silva "Secundino") -- Fechei a Porta (Sebastião Mota / Ferreira dos Santos) -- Pra Seu Governo (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira) -- Na Cadencia do Samba (Ataulfo Alves / Paulo Gesta) -- Samba do Saci (Oswaldo Nunes / Lino Roberto) -- O Samba É Bom Assim (Norival Reis / Hélio Nascimento) -- Despedida de Mangueira (Benedito Lacerda / Aldo Cabral)
02 - Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
03 - Volta Por Cima (Paulo Vanzolini)
04 - Samba de Balanço (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
05 - O Passo da Mulata (Orlann Divo / Roberto Jorge)
06 - Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

Paulo Vanzolini - Por Ele Mesmo (1979)
Hello, Good Night! Let's start today with an unique record that has been with me for at least 2 months and probably the contribution that spent more time on the waiting list. By the way what a contribution and what a contributor, this is Paulo Vanzolini - Por Ele Mesmo (1979), for Eldorado, kindly sent to zecalouro by the might Joao Parahyba from the anthological Trio Mocoto.
Joao, blame it on zecalouro, your record was very useful to my self-education on using those complicated computer programs to remove clicks and clacks from audio files. Mother told me to never complaint on a friend gift and that's what I have been doing; now it is ok! Thanks a million Joao and my apologies for the long delay. Thanks also Janja, which is Joao son, member of Sambex, a Samba Rock band that you probably known with I'm including a picture sent by Janja at this post end.
This record is amazing. I'm not an authority on Paulo Vanzolini music, but I think this is his first and only solo LP. AMG bio is provided for a better understanding of this great Brazilian artist, which is one of the main figures of Samba in Sao Paulo state. Tracks are included just bellow the bios.
Paulo Vanzolini, with Adoniran Barbosa, is acknowledged as the biggest representative of the samba of São Paulo. A physician by education (1947) and a zoologist (acknowledged internationally as one of the most eminent) by profession, Vanzolini nevertheless also kept bohemian habits throughout his youth and maturity, always having been connected with music and malandragem (street smarts). Having started to write sambas in the 1940s, soon he proved to be a talented verse improviser; his lyrics are chronicles both of the bohemian and urban São Paulo and of the upstate way of life. As a composer, his biggest hits are the samba "Volta por Cima," launched in 1962 by Noite Ilustrada (and later re-recorded, among many others, by Maria Bethânia) and included in Gláuber Rocha's O Dragão da Maldade contra o Santo Guerreiro (1969, with Rocha being awarded as the Best Director atthe Cannes Film Festival); and the samba-canção "Ronda," written in 1945 and launched by Inesita Barroso in 1953, being highly popular until today and becoming an anthem of the city of São Paulo. The song became successful in Márcia's re-recording in the 1960s, also recorded later by Maria Bethânia (on her LP Álibi, a top-seller of 1978), Nora Ney, Carmen Costa, and Ângela Maria, among others. In 1967, Vanzolini's friend and partner Luís Carlos Paraná and Marcus Pereira produced for Fermata the LP Paulo Vanzolini: Onze Sambas e Uma Capoeira, on which Vanzolini's songs were interpreted by Chico Buarque, Luís Carlos Paraná, and other artists.
Writing lyrics and melodies by himself, Vanzolini also had partnerships with Toquinho, in the mid-'60s, before the composer formed his duo with Vinícius de Moraes. In 1967, Vanzolini and Toquinho participated in the II Festival Internacional da Canção (International Song Festival, FIC, TV Globo) with one of those songs, "Na Boca da Noite," winning the São Paulo stage. Vanzolini also had as partners Luís Carlos Paraná, Paulinho Nogueira, Adauto Santos, and Elton Medeiros. In 1974, Cristina Buarque named her first LP, Cara Limpa, after the title of a Paulo Vanzolini samba. The label Marcus Pereira launched in that same year the LP A Música de Paulo Vanzolini, interpreted by Carmen Costa and Paulo Marques. In 1997, Vanzolini was paid tribute at the University of São Paulo with a show which launched previously unpublished compositions like "Quando Eu For, Eu Vou Sem Pena." Two years later, he was again paid homage during the commemorations of the 447th anniversary of the city of São Paulo in a show at the Sesc Pompéia hall. In 2001, Vanzolini's complete works began to be recorded by selected interpreters for a four-CD box set.

Boliche Trio - Boliche Trio (1966)
When I starting my efforts to post an Instrumental Bossa or Samba Jazz per day, I could never imagine that I would be one day posting this LP provided by Caetano Rodrigues. I decided this time to do not check with Caetano what he knows about this instrumental combo, just to give you the chance have the same curiosity.
This is Boliche Trio - Boliche Trio (1966), for Chantecler, another jewel produced by Brazilian instrumental music from the 60's that you will not find easily anywhere. Actually, Boliche Trio is not a Trio, but two musicians accompanied by special guests. In charge of Boliche Trio are Theo de Barros, the mighty composer, arranger, musician and producer, member of the anthological Quarteto Novo and the composer of the widely known songs Disparada and Menino das Laranjas and Renato Mendes (organ).
Boliche Trio special guests on the set are: Heitor, Arrudinha and Carlinhos (drums), Chú, Mathias, Nilson e Capacete (bass) and Paulo Queiroz (organ on track 07). I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with Boliche Trio. Tracks include:
01 - Estamos Aí (Maurício Einhorn / Durval Ferreira / Regina Werneck)
02 - Fivela Preta (Messias Santos Jr. / Pery Ribeiro)
03 - Aleluia (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)
04 - Mais Ou Mendes (Benê)
05 - Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
06 - Renê (Renato Mendes)

11 - Jackeline Kennedy (Heraldo do Monte / Xú Viana)
12 - Festa do Samba (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)

Cyro Monteiro - Meu Samba, Minha Vida (1969)
Hello, Good night! Let's start the day with a Mr. X. contribution and also a singer that is being released for the first time at Loronix on a solo LP, this is Cyro Monteiro - Meu Samba, Minha Vida (1969), for Copacabana.
Meu Samba, Minha Vida was made on two different recording sessions with a one-year interval between both. The reason for this interruption was the passing of Astor Silva, musical director and trombonist for this session. This first recording session had also the participation of O Regional de Canhoto. The first recording session tracks are: Deus me Perdoe, Rosa Mandou, Jambete and Moreninha Boa.
The second recording session had also the participation of O Regional de Canhoto on two tracks, Raul de Barros as trombonist and Dino and Meira as violonists. Cyro Monteiro was born in 1973 and has passed with the early age of 60. Vinicius de Moraes said that Cyro Monteiro was the greatest Brazilian popular singer of all times. Tracks include:
01 - Saquinho de Dinheiro (Cyro Monteiro / Lilian de Matos)
02 - Tristezas Não Pagam Dívidas (Ismael Silva)
03 - Decisão (Etinha)
04 - Saudade Dela (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Pedro Caetano)
05 - Moreninha Boa (Fardel / Estevão Camargo)
06 - Regra do Sei Lá (Eduardo Souto Neto / Alberto Paz)
07 - Deus Me Perdôe (Humberto Teixeira / Lauro Maia)
08 - São Paulo (Ricardo Galeno)
09 - Cara Ou Coroa (Eduardo Souto Neto / Alberto Paz)
10 - Rosa Mandou (Avarese)
11 - Jambete (Lu Monteiro / Sergio Bittencourt)
12 - Como a Vida É (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz)

Lyrio Panicali and His Orchestra - Brazil, New Dimensions in Sound (1968)
I have a special admiration for all Brazilian Maestros we have at Loronix and Lyrio Panicali is among my favorites. This LP, recorded for US market, is probably unknown by many friends in Brazil, Lyrio Panicali and His Orchestra - Brazil, New Dimensions in Sound (1968), for United Artists, I cannot confirm right now if the record session was taken in Brazil or in the US. This one should not be confused with the fantastic Nova Dimensao, released in 1965 for Odeon.
This is not only an Orchestra album, there are voices and lyrics in some tracks, Clara Nunes at his pre-samba ages, recognized for her collaboration with Lyrio Panicali sings on tracks Insensatez and A Felicidade. Silvio Cesar also makes his contribution singing tracks Dindi and Apelo. The repertoire is based on Bossa Nova standards, another unique release provided by Caetano Rodrigues. Tracks include:
01 - Aranjuez, Mon Amour
02 - Upa Neguinho
03 - Insensatez - with Clara Nunes
04 - Carolina
05 - Tem Mais Samba
06 - Dindi - with Silvio Cesar

09 - Roda
10 - Meditacao
11 - A Felicidade - with Clara Nunes
12 - Garota de Ipanema

Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme e Luiz Bonfa - Steve & Eydie, Bonfa & Brazil (1967)
...and the blue bird has flown again, thanks for another nice release Arara Azul, this is Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme e Luiz Bonfa - Steve & Eydie, Bonfa & Brazil (1967), for Columbia, a not "standard" Luiz Bonfa release, recorded with the American singers duet Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme.
Actually, this is a Steve & Eydie recorded with Bonfa compositions and accompaniment. The cover artwork is wonderful and I cannot resist to share the only reading I have to it, two American singers smiling and very excited of being with a neutral Luiz Bonfa on a recording set, look at his face.
It is also amazing that this record is not listed on both Steve and Eydie biographies at AMG, anyway it is a great record and Bonfa takes part with his guitar in all tracks, which includes:
01 - Rio de Janeiro
02 - Dream My Dream
03 - It's Love Sweet Love
04 - A Day In The Life Of a Fool (Manhã de Carnaval) (Luis Bonfá / Antônio Maria)
05 - Sweet Talk (Whistle Samba)
06 - Mundo Perdido (Be Still) (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo / Manning)
07 - Summer Summer Wind
08 - Say Goodbye (Turn Around Walk Away)
09 - Ôba-ôba (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo / Jaffe)
10 - Dia das Rosas (I Think Of You)
11 - Empty Glass
12 - The Face Of My Love (Romântico)

Rio 65 Trio - A Hora e a Vez da M.P.M (1966)
I have been trying to keep my willing to post a Samba or Bossa Jazz record per day and I think that today we will have another great release; this is Rio 65 Trio - A Hora e a Vez da M.P.M (1965), for Philips, the second and last LP from this wonderful instrumental combo from the 60's.
You are probably a big fan of the last Rio 65 release and I do not need to detail what you have in front of you, just remember that Rio 65 Trio is Edison Machado (drums), Dom Salvador (piano) and Sergio Barroso (bass). Probably, Loronix friend will ask what is M.P.M., it is just the short form of Musica Popular Moderna. This release was recently reissued and took me by surprise last week for being out of print again. Tracks include:
01 - Cartão de Visita (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Deve Ser Bonito (João Mello / Lenora)
03 - Simplesmente (Édison Lobo)
04 - Apelo (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)

Taking advantage of Helio's new blog, I want to share with Loronixers another Altamiro Carrilho album, Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Bandinha - Altamiro Carrilho Viaja pelo Norte (1962), for Copacabana, one of the several releases by Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Bandinha, assembled in 1955 by Altamiro. It is unnecessary to say that this release is part of Caetano Rodrigues new contributions to Loronix. I'm pleased to make this post, this is a LP that everybody talks wonders about but I never had the chance to hear.
This is Geraldo Vespar - Take 5 (1964), for Polydor, the debut LP of this noted Brazilian singer, guitarist, composer and arranger. Take 5 was produced by Joao Mello and arranged by Maestro Gaya and Geraldo Vespar. This is the kind of release that speaks by itself, stay with tracks while I will be starring this unique and wonderful cover. Tracks include:
