Mr. D&C is responsible to reveal Burnier e Cartier to Loronixers, he was the first to give advice on them. It has been two months since the first LP from Burnier and Cartier was presented to Loronixers. Since this first post, I'm think I did not have a single week without receiving enthusiastic comments about them or - in most cases - recommendations to post their second album, which is something that I'm making now, for the happiness of several Loronixers.
This is Burnier & Cartier - Fotos para a Capa do LP (1976), for Odeon, featuring Octavio Burnier and Claudio Cartier. It is amazing that both Burnier and Cartier LPs are out of print. Barbara Burnier, daughter of Octavio Burnier is a Loronixer and should be very happy with this post, I said her and I will say again, Barbara, your father has several fans at Loronix. Tracks include:
01 - Minha Mãe Não Sabe de Mim (Tavinho Bonfá / Cláudio Cartier / Ivan Wrigg)
02 - D João (Tavinho Bonfá / Reinaldo Pimenta)
03 - Recreio (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)
04 - Elogio da Loucura (Tavinho Bonfá / Strunk / Ivan Wrigg)
05 - À Beira de Nada (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)
06 - Catarina Cangurú (Cláudio Cartier / Paulo Azeredo)
07 - Dia Ferido (Tavinho Bonfá / Cláudio Cartier)
08 - Lendas das Amazonas (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)
09 - Ecoline (Cláudio Cartier)
10 - Sitio Azul (Cláudio Cartier)
11 - Pedra Pintada
Hi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteYou must be damn proud of your father. His LPs are one of my alltime favourites from Brazil.
Thanks Zecalouro for this, hope everyone will enjoy this wonderful music!!!
This album is simply GREAT ! beautiful vocal harmonies, complex songwriting and arrangements, a classic. And unfortunately so rare. Tanks Zeca.

A gorgeous album. I prefer it to the 1974 disc. The arrangements are generally sparser, and the overall effect is more haunting. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, there's a high bit-rate version here:

However, there are a few audible glitches here and there.
I think this record is truly a rare gem! The TOPS!!
ReplyDeleteMUITO BOM !
ReplyDeleteObrigado Loronix for sharing your information ;)
I'm not assigned to this blog-system , so i'll add my comments via this identity-choice.
Both albums from Burnier é Cartier have been re-issued on CD , around 2002.
Their second album which is discussed here came out on a special series of the Brasilian label ODEON and can still be found at various shops from online-sellers :

( note : the eBay-seller above made an error , thinking the album's from 1968 )
Their debut-album ( my personal fave ) from 1974 has been re-printed on CD in Japan , for BMG-RCA Japan , but is already out-of-print :

I recently had the chance to find a CD-copy though from that 1974-album , at dustygroove.com , where you can put them on your wants-list :
http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?kwfilter=burnier+e+cartier+%28+1974+%29&incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&x=10&y=4
Great if one can find that CD-copy , since the original vinyl-pressing goes for "muito dinheiro" :

As noted before , my personal taste goes to their debut-album with wonderful tracks like "Mirandolina" , "Só Tem Lugar Pra Você" because of the slight more instrumentation which is used , compared to the more acoustic-sound of their second album.
Até a vista !
Sander.
Perdoe-me Zecalouro for naming you Loronix ... i'm kinda new to this blog and oversaw your name under the article ;)

Hi Loronix,
ReplyDeleteHere is Burnier (many years ago I change my musical nick to Tavynho Bonfa), I really find this album the best produced by the duo. In fact, after this album we went to Australia invited by the National Australian Theasure Live, Sir Don Burrows (yes, he received this honored title because of his music contributions)and we performed and recorded at the Sydney Opera House an album called Don Burrows and the Brazilian Connection, featuring Burnier & Cartier. It'is a double vinil album, I never saw this on CD. It is a wonderful memory. I also invite you and all your friends to take a look at my official site: www.tavynhobonfa.com
Kindest regards.
Tavynho Bonfa
