Hello, good evening! Let's start this rainy day with a flawless album, the repost of Dorival Caymmi - Sambas de Caymmi (1955), kindly provided by Dona Iara. Surprisingly, this one was not mint as the previous one and it is necessary to say that you will hear eventual clicks and pops. Let's see.
This is Dorival Caymmi - Sambas de Caymmi (1955), for Odeon, with arrangements, orchestra and choir by Luiz Arruda Paes. Released in the 10-inch format, Sambas de Caymmi is Dorival Caymmi second LP, preceding the one that I like most, Dorival Caymmi - Cancoes Praieiras (1954), already available at Loronix and scheduled for a repost as soon as we get the original vinyl issue. Dorival Caymmi performs for the first time some of his essential songs, such as Sabado em Copacabana, Nunca Mais, So Louco, Vizinha do Lado, Rosa Morena, in fact, all these 8 songs are Brazilian popular music standards and you cannot miss them performed by Dorival Caymmi in 1955. Tracks include:
01 - Sábado Em Copacabana (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle) Samba-canção
02 - Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle) Samba-canção
03 - Nunca Mais (Dorival Caymmi) Samba-canção
04 - Só Louco (Dorival Caymmi) Samba-canção
05 - Requebre Que Eu Dou Um Doce (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
06 - Vestido de Bolero (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
07 - A Vizinha do Lado (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
08 - Rosa Morena (Dorival Caymmi) Samba
Hi Zeca,
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog about 6 months ago and I am still so amazed by what I find here. I read a while ago that you got an award of bets musical blog : let me tell you it is well deserved.
I discovered a musica brasileira about 20 years ago through the voice of Caetano singing "Leãozinho". From that moment I was dreaming of going to Bahia. Which happened only 10 years later. I went back there again and, now, I am with saudade until the next time I come to Brasil.
I was used to think I know brazilian music very well, even my brazilian friends say so. But Loronix makes me feel I know almost nothing at all. It's so great to find here what you don't find in record stores no more. Each time I was in Brazil I was manicly buying a lot of cd but, for example, it was almost impossible to find an original album by Dorival Caymmi. So I'm glad of your post. And I'm waiting for Canções Praieiras, also one of my favourite. Will you also plan to post Eu Vou pra Maracangalha at 320, which is my other favourite.
I send this message also because I'am pleased to find here my first brazilian LPs, whose I was not expecting to find here : Caetano's Bicho and also Gal Costa... It's through Tropicalia and Martinho da Vila I got hooked on musica brasileira. So it brings back lembranças.
Anyway, I also wanted to say you are a naughty little parrot : what is this lipstick you add on Gal's cover ?
I'll try to leave a message each time I like an album, which is often, just to say "thank you", and maybe I'll try to practice my portuguese...
