Breno Sauer Quarteto - 4 na Bossa (1966)

Hello, Good Evening! I was wondering the right time to show this album to Loronixers and I think the time has come with this One million hits barrier we broke today and also with the hint send by Good Groove at the previous Tamba Trio post. This is a really great Samba Jazz set from the old times, recorded by another artist that I learned to admire at Loronix.

This is Breno Sauer Quarteto - 4 na Bossa (1966), for Musidisc, perhaps one of the best records ever made in the 60's by the Brazilian pianist, arranger and composer Breno Sauer. Thanks Good Groove for bringing this fantastic album back to this parrot memory. I'm brief today; several emails are reaching my mailbox such like a waterfall on a tiny cup of tea. Stay tuned for the next releases of the day. Tracks include:

  1. Zeca,

Many thanks for promptly fulfilling my request! This album is a milestone in instrumental bossa. Up there with Som Tres' "Em Forma" for me.

Breno Sauer is the Brazilian master of the vibes and should be ranked alongside Milt Jackson, Roy Ayers or Vince Montana Jr. The interaction between piano and vibraphone is reminiscent of the Modern Jazz Quartet sound of the late 50's, but with that infectious Brazilian groove. Last but not least, drummer Portinho is separate show on his own right.

God bless you Zeca, for sharing this very special record. And congrats for the 1M hits - That means more that 100 visits per hour, WOW! Brazilian groove rules!

Portinho is a brilliant samba drummer and an unsung hero who lives in USA. I highly recommend you check out Paquito D'Rivera's "Return to Ipanema", another cd with Portinho on drums and available in the archives, samba-jazz at its best!!!

Loronix, please post more samba-jazz recordings with Portinho, if you have them.

    Obrigado!!

  3. Breno Sauer Quarteto is really very fine music. I am very proud that so many years after the records were issued, there are still people who listen to it and appreciate it. But the main reason why I am so proud is that Erne, the bass player, is my father.
