Gal Costa - Gal Costa (1969)

We had great days this week, including yesterday's Nara Leao and Carnegie Hall 45th anniversary celebration and today's awesome Os Cariocas video. Perhaps the recent days are keeping you busy with downloads and listens and I was decided to make only Os Cariocas today, but I think today is the right time to dig a little bit more our last Tropicalia releases, showing an album considered the most Tropicalia and the most experimental album from a Brazilian singer that Loronixers really love. Let's see.

This is Gal Costa - Gal Costa (1969), for Philips, the second album released by Gal Costa taken by many as her debut LP, since the first was Domingo, with Gal Costa sharing the main performer role with Caetano Veloso. Most of the compositions are from Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben, including also Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos, Tom Ze and Torquato Neto. There are some well-known songs, such as: Que Pena, Baby, Nao Identificado, Saudosismo. It will be amazing to hear the first and earlier recording of these classics. Rogerio Duprat delivers Tropicalia arrangements with lots of guitars and percussion. Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso are special guests on some cuts. Tracks include:

01 - Não Identificado (Caetano Veloso)
02 - Sebastiana (Rosil Cavalcanti) with Gilberto Gil
03 - Lost In The Paradise (Caetano Veloso)
04 - Namorinho de Portão (Tom Zé) with Gilberto Gil
05 - Saudosismo (Caetano Veloso)
06 - Se Você Pensa (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
07 - Vou Recomeçar (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
08 - Divino Maravilhoso (Gilberto Gil / Caetano Veloso)
09 - Que Pena (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor") with Caetano Veloso
10 - Baby (Caetano Veloso) with Caetano Veloso
11 - A Coisa Mais Linda Que Existe (Gilberto Gil / Torquato Neto)
12 - Deus É o Amor (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")

  7. You are starting with a really challenging dope. This album is different from all others.

I think you will have a solid entertainment with Gal Costa, but as a different album, you get automatically the benefits of a second try. Do not hesitate to run for it.

    Welcome Loronix, milo.

    Cheers, zeca

  8. this is a really good album. I think it is the better of the two self titled ones. Very interesting songs with beautiful melodies and a twisted side as well. 5 stars!!! My favorite Gal so far that I have heard!
