Eumir Deodato - Inutil Paisagem (1964)

Several Loronix friends were today at the first Eumir Deodato concert in Sao Paulo after a hiatus of twenty years with no live concerts in Brazil. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time listening and having fun with Grupo Manifesto and probably everybody is now sleeping home dreaming with the great night they had. Anyway, hope they get surprised tomorrow morning and all Loronix friends have a nice time with this early Eumir Deodato album.

This is Eumir Deodato - Inutil Paisagem (1964), for Forma, a tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim with Eumir Deodato as arranger, director and pianist with production and artistic direction of Roberto Quartin. Don't miss the liner notes included with the music, written by Antonio Carlos Jobim, amazed with Eumir Deodato and his talent to write orchestra arrangements with the age of 21 years old. Personnel listing is also of note, featuring Edson Maciel, J.T. Meirelles, Copinha, Roberto Menescal, Luis Marinho, Oscar Castro Neves, among others. Tracks include:

Dick Farney - Penumbra Romance (1971)

I was really happy when I found this album that I had only a copy sent by a friend on MP3s files. Now I can say that I'm a happy owner of the original LP issue on a very good quality, almost not played before. It is also a pleasure to share another Dick Farney album, by the way, one of the greatest albums he made.

Dick Farney has been surprising many Jazz fans around the world that are tuned at Loronix. I have received more than a few emails from friends outside of Brazil sending greetings for discovering Dick Farney. I said it before and I want to say it again, Dick Farney and Lucio Alves where favorites of many renowned artists that emerged from the Bossa Nova age, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and others. I'm making available a picture found at Rui Castro's Bossa Nova book of a wallet from a member of the legendary Sinatra-Farney Fan Club, just to give you an idea of how important was Dick Farney.

This is Dick Farney - Penumbra Romance (1971), for London. We can say that Penumbra Romance is between the singer and the pianist, since Dick Farney Trio accompanies Dick Farney, which are Dick Farney (piano), Toninho (drums) and Saba (bass). The song Teresa da Praia has the participation of Lucio Alves as a special guest and worth entire record. Tracks include:

Personnel

Dick Farney
(piano)

Challenge | Who are these artists?

Back with challenges, I want to ask for your help to identify these artists on this post picture. They are all well known to Loronixers.

Challenge, who are these artists?

Hope uEnjoy!

Milton Banana Trio - Balancando com Milton Banana Trio (1966)

One of the benefits of Loronix Find It, is the growing interest on Archives, the posts from the past, available since Loronix was opened for friends in May 12th. Another feature that makes people visit these posts is the creation of something I could not find a name better than Realejo, which is this icon you see on your left, a nice feature, clicking on Realejo you will get a random post, a post that comes out of the blue from Realejo. This is another nice feature made available with the help of Pablo, The Magnificent. Thanks Pablo!

Anyway, several friends are now asking for reposts, since some archived records are not with the quality we use to have today and probably were not seen by many friends. I will try to address these requests on weekends and I'm starting with a very early post of a great artist.

This is Milton Banana Trio - Balancando com Milton Banana Trio (1966), for Odeon, self explanatory, Milton Banana is one of the greatest Bossa Nova drummers, just Joao Gilberto favorite and the creator of Bossa Nova drumming style. Tracks include:

Personnel

Milton Banana
(drums)
Cid
(piano)
Mario
(bass)

Aracy de Almeira e Ismael Silva - Show Samba Pede Passagem (1966)

My apologies to Ismael Silva, MPB-4, Carlos Poyares, Conjunto Samba Autentico, Partido Alto and Sidney Miller with his Grupo Mensagem, but this album is all about Aracy de Almeida, which is a Samba singer considered by Noel Rosa as the best interpreter of his compositions. Aracy de Almeida has a giant discography, mostly 78 RMPs and more than 50 years on recordings. My apologies also to do not make this post earlier, a friend of zecalouro sent this LP to Loronixers and I'm very happy to show it at the quality deserved.

This is Aracy de Almeida e Ismael Silva - Show Samba Pede Passagem (1966), for Polydor, recorded live at Teatro de Arena, Rio de Janeiro, December 1965, directed by Joao das Neves and Armando Costa, Musical Direction by Maestro Lindolfo Gaya and produced by Grupo Opiniao.

It is a shame that Aracy de Almeida is pretty unknown as a singer in Brazil. I don't know exactly why and when, she made a shift on her career, leaving professional singing for a participation on a Brazilian TV Show, Show de Calouros, presented by Silvio Santos. I remember by the time Aracy de Almeida passed away, Brazilian media did not make a single mention of the great singer she was, but only as the woman of Show de Calouros. That's why zecalouro is making two videos, the first is Aracy de Almeida performing Nao Me Diga Adeus (1975) and the second one is an excerpt of her participation at Show the Calouros. By the way, Aracy was fantastic on that show and I had a great time when I was a kid watching her. Tracks include:

Personnel

Aracy de Almeida and Ismael Silva
(main performers)

MPB-4

Carlos Poyares
(flute)

Conjunto Samba Autentico
Edgar Barbosa
Bilú
Hélio Cabral
Sidoca
João Laurindo
Tiana

Grupo Mensagem
Sidney Miller
Paulo Thiago
Luis Carlos Sá
Marco Antônio
Sônia Ferreira

Partido Alto
Padeirinho
Jorge Zagaia
Leléu da Mangueira
Bidi

Neco - Samba e Violao Vol. 2 (1968)

I do not have a clue of what zecalouro is planning as the last post and I hope he makes the right choice, at least picking up a nice cover such like this one and the last one with the girl in front of a yellow background. Today seems to be the "beautiful cover" day at Loronix.

When I made available the first record of this wonderful Brazilian guitar player I would never realize that we would make three additional releases, all provided by Caetano Rodrigues, which I say thanks for sharing this rare Neco LPs.

This is Neco - Samba e Violao Vol. 2 (1968), for London. Little is known about this album, the back cover has just the same black and white picture of front cover with track list. What is known is Caetano's and zecalouro's opinion, which are both very positive with zeca saying that among the four Neco LPs he have heard, this is the best one. This is a very hard to find and an excellent album; we should thanks Caetano for making it available to our community on a really nice quality. Tracks include:

01 - Andança (Danilo Caymmi / Edmundo Souto / Paulinho Tapajós)
02 - É Preciso Cantar (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 - Sabiá (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)
04 - Você Passa e Eu Acho Graça (Carlos Imperial / Ataulfo Alves)
05 - Despedida de Mangueira (Benedito Lacerda / Aldo Cabral)
06 - Canção do Amanhecer (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 - O Cantador (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
08 - Sonho de Lugar (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 - Helena Helena Helena (Alberto Land)
10 - Implorar (Kid Pepe / Germano Augusto / Gaspar)
11 - Retrato Em Branco e Preto (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)
12 - Chorinho A (Neco)

Altamiro Carrilho e Seu Conjunto de Solistas - Boleros em Desfile Nr. 2 (1959)

As soon as Loronix and Jornal Musical post was released I received some emails of friends asking for Altamiro Carrilho. I made a recommendation to search at Loronix Find It and check for previous releases. They were not happy, crying out for a new release. I learn with Loronix how music fans are really focused on their passion. Anyway, let's see Altamiro Carrilho on a different genre, bolero.

This is Altamiro Carrilho e Seu Conjunto de Solistas - Boleros em Desfile Nr. 2 (1959), for Copacabana. My apologies for do not have restoration skills to present a better cover image to Loronixers, this cover is so good that worth the whole album. Altamiro Carrilho leads a "Conjunto" and this record is dedicated to a genre that was very famous in Brazil until the 70's, bolero. I was talking yesterday with Caetano about bolero, very famous in the past and just disappeared today. Caetano said that a party with no bolero tunes was certainly a bad party at that time, since bolero is for dancing, another tradition that we do not see so often. Tracks include:

01 - Hipócrita (Carlos Crespo)
02 - Quien Será (P. B. Ruiz)
03 - Cachito (Consuelo Velasquez)
04 - Que Murmuren (R. Fuentes / R. Cardenas)
05 - Aquellos Ojos Verdes (N. Menendez / A. Utrera)
06 - Frenesi (A. Dominguez)
07 - Perfume de Gardenia (R. Hernandez)
08 - Desamparada (Alfredo Gil)
09 - Camino Verde (Carmelo Larrea)
10 - Jamais Te Esquecerei (Antônio Rago / Juraci Rago)
11 - Nosotros (P. Junco Jr.)
12 - Donde Estará Mi Vida (A. Lopes / Q. Segovia / F. N. Caldera / I. R. Jimenez)

Music Video | Ana Mazzotti - Grand Chick

Hello, Good Evening! Starting with a video and making the day of Ana Mazzotti fans and Loronixers. I could never realize I would see Ana Mazzotti on video, this is just heaven. Guess who is behind this Ana Mazzotti video? I can hear everybody yelling the name of Luiz Harding. Thanks Luiz, this is what I call a self-explanatory video.

Hope uEnjoy!

Wilson Simonal - Tem Algo Mais (1963)

I'm confident someone finds Altamiro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul 10-inch as described bellow. It will fantastic to have this album back to Altamiro and Jornal Musical and also a great accomplish to our community. Anyway, once again I do not have arguments to explain why the debut LP of this so adored artist was not released before. This is a great album, different from the later works of Wilson Simonal and you will have a high quality entertainment with it.

This is Wilson Simonal - Tem Algo Mais (1963), for Odeon, Wilson Simonal debut LP, featuring orchestral arrangements by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Do not think you will get a groovy samba flavored Wilson Simonal on his debut, this is a nice Bossa Nova album with Wilson Simonal singing smooth, supported by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. Definitively, the early 60's was the peak years for Brazilian male singers; several nice works are from this period, such like the early works of Pery Ribeiro and others. Tracks include:

01 - Tudo de Você (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 - Amanhecendo (Roberto Menescal / Luis Fernando Freire)
03 - Telefone (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 - Saudade (Silvio César)
05 - Samba Cromático (Jair Amorim / Carlos Cruz)
06 - Menina Flor (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
07 - Lágrima Flor (Billy Blanco)
08 - Balanço Zona Sul (Tito Madi)
09 - Menino Triste (Gracindo Jr. / Rildo Hora)
10 - Meu Comportamento (Chico Feitosa / Marcos de Vasconcellos)
11 - Samba É Verbo (Édson Menezes / Alberto Paz)
12 - Manhã no Posto Seis (Armando Cavalcanti)

Loronix and Jornal Musical Need Your Help

Loronix and Jornal Musical are joining forces to ask for your participation on a mission that only a community like Loronix can accomplish: the search for the cover artwork of the first 10-inch recorded by the Brazilian musician Altamiro Carrilho, his first LP, Altamiro Carrilho - Altamirro Carrilho e Sua Flauta Azul (1957), Continental LPP 44, one of the rarest Brazilian records ever, a missing piece even on the personal Altamiro Carrilho collection.

We are not starting the search today, we have been on field for more than a few months in collaboration with International Restored LP blog, which I want to send my regards for finding the music and making it available to Loronix and Jornal Musical. Through the courtesy of International Restored LP, this is the music, no Rapidshare, here.

However, we could not find the cover artwork and this is why we are looking for the help of our community. The first who sends an email to zecalouro@gmail.com with high quality scans of front and back cover will be receiving a CD-ROM with Jornal Musical Brazilian Discography, one of the most complete Brazilian music discographies available on the web. Loronix will also be giving a LP from the personal zecalouro collection, Eliana Pittman & Trio 3D - Ao Vivo (1968), Copacabana CLP 11528, with an autograph by Eliana Pittman.

This is the deal we have with the Loronix community: the first one who sends an email to zecalouro with front and back cover scans will be receiving both prices available on this post pictures.

Jornal Musical is part of The Brazilian Musical Memory Institute (IMMUB), a non-profit organization, created in 2006, for the express purpose of researching and disseminating Brazilian music, as well as promoting the development of cultural and socio-educational projects within this context. I strongly recommend your visit to Jornal Musical.

Samba 5 - Moderninho (1970)

Hello, Good Evening! I was checking the last five days and without knowing all first posts made were from obscure artists and the hard to find albums. This time I decided to make a test drive with some Loronixers that are also vinyl collectors and none of the friends had seen this group and this album before. Let's keep the pace and show Loronixers another Marcelo "Sambasonics" Munhoz contribution that probably you never heard about.

This is Samba 5 - Moderninho (1970), for Tropicana. Little is known about Samba 5, probably a quintet that released only this LP for the label Tropicana. Personnel is also unknown and it seems to be recorded by known musicians, the drummer plays very nice and the record was mixed to highlight his work. Thanks for another one, Marcelo. Tracks include:

01 - Wave (Tom Jobim)
02 - Januária (Chico Buarque)
03 - Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Silva)
04 - Mudando de Conversa (Hermínio Bello de Carvalho / Maurício Tapajós)

11 - Roda (Gilberto Gil / João Augusto)
12 - Bye Bye (Carlos Imperial / Jorge Roberto)

Baden Powell & Stephane Grappelli - La Grande Reunion (1974) Vol. 1 & 2

Once again I had to ask for help of friends on-line to build the last post decision, not so easy this time. I had the help of 3 Loronixers, leaving Google talk with a decision made and then reaching the next friend for a validation, changing everything again. I'm happy with this decision, this album is not an unanimity, some friends like it, some others don't, but I think it is unique, full or charm and beautiful.

This is Baden Powell & Stephane Grappelli - La Grande Reunion (1974), for Festival (France). La Grande Reunion was record in only two days and zecalouro is presenting the first volume with eight of the fifteen songs recorded on that set. I was wondering how they could make fifteen songs in only two days with such different instruments without never being together before. Stephane Grappelli is one of the greatest Jazz violinists of all time, playing an important role on establishing the violin as a Jazz instrument. Tracks include:

Personnel

Baden Powell
(guitar)
Stephane Grappelli
(violin)
Guy Pedersen
(bass)
Pierre Alain Dahan
(drums)
Jorge G. Resende and Clement de Waleyne
(percussion)

Ana Lucia - Caminhos (1970)

A couple of weeks ago, Quimsy called my attention to this record and I could easily associate why zecalouro thought Ana Lucia was the mysterious singer at an early challenge released at Loronix, made available again at post closing. Does she look very like the mysterious singer? I still think Ana Lucia is the mysterious singer on that challenge, but I accept she is Julie Joy. Actually, everybody agrees the mysterious singer is Julie Joy. Forgetting the challenge, let's talk about this album (but I'm still in doubt about it).

This is Ana Lucia - Caminhos (1970), for Ebrau. It is important to do not take this Ana Lucia as another singer with the same name, being released months ago at Loronix, I made this mistake several times. If you take both singers for a hearing you will confirm they are pretty different from each other. I think this Ana Lucia is better. Little is known about her and any further info is really appreciated. Tracks include:

01 - Caminhos (Edmundo Souto / Danilo Caymmi / Paulinho Tapajós)
02 - Anúncio (Arthur Verocai / Paulinho Tapajós)
03 - Canto de Saudade (Edmundo Souto / M. Antônio Magoulas)
04 - L'anamour (S. Gainsbourg)
05 - Cordão de Ouro (V. Rangel)
06 - Petite Fée (Alain Barrière)
07 - Olha Eu (Eduardo Souto Neto / Sergio Bittencourt)
08 - Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
09 - Clarão da Lua Cheia (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
10 - Wight Is Wight (M. Delpech / R. Vincent)
11 - Samba da Lagoa (Billy Blanco)
12 - Anjo de Blue Jeans (E. Borges / S. Paezzo)

Luiz Carlos - Samba Jovem (1965) with Conjunto CBS

Hello, Good Evening! Let's start the day with this contribution from the great Sabadabada, the pioneer, holding the Brazilian music flag at the Internet since September 2004. zecalouro urges the new Loronix friends to take a time and visit Sabadabada (http://www.sabadabada.com) to browser the pretty organized cover section and also check the nice albums available. Sabadabada always make unique contribution to Loronix and this one has the Sabadabada flavor, a widely unknown album recorded by an artist that I never heard before. Thanks Sabadabada.

This is Luiz Carlos Ismail - Samba Jovem (1965), for CBS, or just Luiz Carlos as the cover suggests. Luiz Carlos Ismail is a big charade, Googling his name, I could find only records with Luiz Carlos as composer, no consistent information about his albums and solo career. Luiz Claudio has the accompaniment of Conjunto CBS, also unknown, but makes a nice work as a Bossa Jazz combo at this album. Thanks once again, Sabadabada, any further information on this artist is appreciated. Tracks include:

01 - Samba na Palma da Mão (Erasmo Carlos)
02 - Venham Cantar Meu Samba (Renato Correia / Donaldson Gonçalves)
03 - Samba da Criança (Erasmo Carlos)

06 - Espiral (Ivan Botticelli)
07 - Balança Menina (Renato Correia / Donaldson Gonçalves)
08 - Timbó (Erasmo Carlos)
09 - Balanço da Canoa (Dalmo Castello)
10 - Menino do Sertão (Erasmo Carlos)
11 - Última Mensagem (Dalmo Castello / Antônio Valente)
12 - Está na Hora (Hamilton)

Eumir Deodato - Prelude (1973)

zecalouro is following the steps of Maestro Eumir Deodato since one week before his trip to Brazil for a series of concerts in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Before his arriving, we had Ideias, his second solo LP. By the time he made his first concert in Sao Paulo, we had the chance to see Inutil Paisagem, his first LP, dedicated to Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Eumir Deodato starts today the first out of two concerts in Rio de Janeiro and this time we will present another important album, recorded when Eumir Deodato was already established in the U.S. that landmark a major change on his career.

This is Eumir Deodato - Prelude (1973), for CTI. I like this record very much and it is notable how a Eumir Deodato managed with a great success an album so different from his previous works, dedicated to Bossa Nova. I will let you with AMG Richard S. Ginell this time, showing also tracks. Tracks include:

AMG Review

Prior to Prelude, Eumir Deodato was primarily known, if at all, as a tasteful, lyrical, bossa nova-based sometime arranger for the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Frank Sinatra, Wes Montgomery, and others. Enter Creed Taylor, who gave Deodato a chance to step out on his own as a pianist/leader, doing a few tunes of his own plus a healthy quota of CTI-patented jazz interpretations of classical pieces by Richard Strauss ("Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)"), Debussy ("Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun"), and bowdlerized Borodin ("Baubles, Bangles and Beads"). Well, "2001" -- a clever, up-tempo Latin-groove takeoff on the opening measures of Strauss' tone poem suddenly exploded and became an improbable hit single. In its wake, Prelude soared to number three on the pop LP charts, and Deodato was propelled out of the arranger-for-hire business. Though overshadowed by "2001," the other tracks also hold up well today, being mostly medium-tempo, sometimes lushly orchestrated, conga-accented affairs that provide velvety showcases for Deodato's lyrical electric piano solos. The record also made a temporary star out of John Tropea, whose electric guitar has a lot of rock & rolling zip and fire, and Hubert Laws, Stanley Clarke, and Marvin Stamm each get a little solo room too. This would be the biggest hit Deodato and CTI ever had, and though short on playing time (32 minutes), it still makes enjoyable listening.

Track List

01 - Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001) (Richard Strauss)
02 - Spirit Of Summer (Eumir Deodato)
03 - Carly & Carole (Eumir Deodato)
04 - Baubles Bangles And Beads (R. Wright / G. Forrest)
05 - Prelude To Afternoon Of a Faun (Debussy)
06 - September 13 (Cobbham / Eumir Deodato)

Jorge Autuori Trio - Ovalo (1969)

Hello, Good Evening! I want to start today greeting the new friends arriving at Loronix today recommended by Ricardo Noblat, the owner and maintainer of what is considered the best political Brazilian blog, O Blog do Noblat. I feel very proud of being referred by such renowned journalist and I'm sure Loronixers also feel great to receive Noblat and his friends.

Brazilian friends are probably long time Blog do Noblat users and I urge our Loronix friends out of Brazil to make a visit to Blog do Noblat, using this address, here. (http://oglobo.globo.com/pais/noblat/)

Since we have new visitors, let's start the day showing a treasure that zecalouro kept secret for such special occasions, an album that is all about Loronix, Bossa Nova and wonderful enough to please everybody.

This is Jorge Autuori Trio - Ovalo (1969), for RCA Victor. Once again, little is known about Jorge Autuori, his Trio members and their further activities after releasing four albums for Mocambo, RCA Victor and Top Tape. Jorge Autuori is a top-notch drummer, recognized by his style very similar to Milton Banana, playing Bossa Nova such like drummers uses to make in the 60's. Tracks include:

01 - Zazueira (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor") -- Que Pena (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor") -- País Tropical (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
02 - Ai Que Saudades da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago) -- Laranja Madura (Ataulfo Alves) -- Na Cadência dos Samba (Ataulfo Alves / Paulo Gesta)
03 - Aquele Abraço (Gilberto Gil)
04 - Modinha (Sergio Bittencourt)
05 - Cantiga de Errante (Rildo Hora / Heitor Quintella)

Taiguara - Hoje (1969)

Several facts came to my attention in the last days to decide for this post, actually, I didn't realize how popular Taiguara was before we made the video challenge showing Copacabana beach with Taiguara singing in the background. It was the easiest Challenge ever and I was confident that nobody would guess it so quickly. The second fact was the last Sivuca & Rosinha de Valenca album recorded at Projeto Seis e Meia in Rio. I received a video showing Taiguara performing the song that titles this album at the same Project and the same Theater. All roads leads to Taiguara, let's see.

This is Taiguara - Hoje (1969), for Odeon. In spite of his successful career as a singer, Taiguara is also a composer, arranger and researcher on Latin and African music, mainly from his homeland, Uruguai. Music Video | The Weather Report featuring Dom Um Romao

This video is being reposted due the better quality provided by the mighty Luiz Harding and uniqueness, showing The Weather Report and the Brazilian drummer Dom Um Romao, performing the role of percussionist. Dom Um Romao seems to be the main performing using several weird instruments, including a tamanco or clog in English, which is a type of shoe or sandal made out of wood. We will have a lot of fun with these new images. Do not forget to use the increase lens.

Hope uEnjoy!

Miltinho - Bossa e Balanco (1963)

Miltinho is an always claimed artist, claimed with energy by many friends on several channels, email, orkut, CBox, comments and not eventually, but weekly, even daily. I hope this widely unknown Miltinho sent by Caetano Rodrigues makes the day of everybody tomorrow morning, Miltinho is a great Samba singer, a perfect close for the weekend putting energy on your Monday.

This is Miltinho - Bossa e Balanco (1963), for RGE. Miltinho released his first LP in 1960, the acclaimed Um Novo Astro with Sexteto Sideral. Bossa and Balanco, released in 1963 is not the second or third Miltinho album, but his tenth LP released in almost four years. It is funny, Miltinho urges radio DJs at the back cover to play his record, so he will have the chance of make another one. Bossa e Balanco is arranged by Maestro Carioca, Waltel Branco, Nelsinho and Jose Meneses.

I also happy to show Loronixers a music video with Miltinho and the great Ed Motta, performing together. A truly awesome video that you cannot miss. Tracks include:

Claudio Roditi - Double Standards (1996)

Here comes again Caetano Rodrigues showing this time a fantastic and recommended album recorded by a Brazilian artist never released before at Loronix. We talk about Claudio Roditi, a Brazilian pistonist that moved to the United States in 1970 to study in Berklee and built his career in the US. Roditi played with Herbie Mann, Charlie Rouse and started a long-term relationship with Paquito de Rivera in the early 80's. Let's check Caetano's pick.

This is Claudio Roditi - Double Standards (1996), for Reservoir. Grupo Manifesto - Grupo Manifesto Nr. 2 (1968)

This is something that we never spoke before at Loronix and it is the time to introduce friends to Grupo Manifesto, created in 1965 by a group of friends with no identified leader. Much more than a musical group, Grupo Manifesto was a group of friends who got together in a botequim(*) at Rua Gustavo Sampaio, Leme. I'm not sure if Grupo Manifesto took the name of the bar or the bar got this name from the group. I live close to this street and never heard about this Manifesto botequim. Perhaps they close it before making the move to here. This is the second and last LP released by Grupo Manifesto, let's see what we have here.

This is Grupo Manifesto - Grupo Manifesto Nr. 2 (1968), for Elenco, featuring several friends that became later recognized Brazilian artists, as follow: Amauri Tristão, Fernando Leporace, Guto Graça Melo, Mariozinho Rocha, Augusto César Pinheiro, José Renato Filho, Junaldo, Lucelena, Gracinha Leporace and Guarabyra. Lucelena is also known as Lucina from the duo Luhli e Lucina. It is a really different record with everybody alternating vocals on tracks making a really nice outcome. Tracks include:

01 - Maria Redentora (Mariozinho Rocha) - Lucina / Grupo Manifesto / Lunaldo
02 - Diferença (Amaury Tristão / Mariozinho Rocha) - Tristão / Grupo Manifesto / Gracinha Leporace
03 - Pra Que Brigar (Wolmar Carneiro / Mariozinho Rocha) - Grupo Manifesto / Junaldo
04 - Hoje É Domingo (Fernando Leporace / Mariozinho Rocha)
05 - Quem Vem Lá (Amaury Tristão / João Medeiros Filho)
06 - Bloco da Vida (Guarabyra / Capinan) - Grupo Manifesto / Lucina
07 - Só (Amaury Tristão / Mário Telles) - Lucina / Grupo Manifesto
08 - Garoto Paissandu (Mariozinho Rocha) - Grupo Manifesto / Junaldo
09 - Sem Dor (Fernando Leporace) - Grupo Manifesto / Lucina
10 - Minha Decisão (Amaury Tristão / João Medeiros Filho) - Grupo Manifesto / Junaldo
11 - Marianinha (Fernando Leporace) - Grupo Manifesto / Gracinha Leporace

(*)
Botequim (and its variation boteco) is a place where Brazilians often go to drink, eat and chat. A good translation could be pub but this is not so simple. A good botequim has its peculiarities, mainly the simplicity of the decoration (usually related to soccer teams) and the "high-fat" food but the most important is the friendly environment.
