My digital camera has gone. I never though this would happen and now I know how a digital camera is an essential item at Loronix, all covers are made with a digital camera, no camera, no show. I need to have it fixed by tomorrow morning. It is frustrating to read at camera LCD the message "No Memory Stick" while you know there are more than twenty album covers there.
Anyway, great coincidence that I have this LP cover ready for my personal collection of albums with birds on cover. This singer was never released before at Loronix and is also pretty unknown outside Brazil. zecalouro took part on this cover photo session to make an extra income, probably to buy a new digital camera. The covers alone worth the entire album, but let’s see what we have inside.
This is Angela Roro - Simples Carinho (1983), for Polydor, her forth LP. I will let you with Angela Roro and the help of AMG on her bios. Meanwhile I will make a deep search around the apartment to find an old memory stick. This is a really unusual release at Loronix and you should decide to blame or thanks the defective camera for it. Tracks include:
AMG Bio
Ângela Ro Ro studied classical piano from an early age. Her nickname Ro Ro is derived from her rough and low voice. She began to play around the Carioca neighborhood of Ipanema, and soon, influenced by her idol Ella Fitzgerald (along with Maysa and Jacques Brel), she moved to London during the military regimen, where she survived upon small jobs while performing around the city. Returning to Brazil in 1979, she was hired by Polygram, recording her first album in that year, Ângela Ro Ro, which had the hits "Amor, Meu Grande Amor," "A Mim e a Mais Ninguém," and "Tola Foi Você." Always faithful to her dramatic, irreverent, sexually unconventional, and explosive character, Ro Ro followed her career, recording in 1980 the LP Só Nos Resta Viver, which had a great success with the title track; "Tango da Bronquite" also was a hit. "Escândalo," by Caetano Veloso, is from the 1981 LP of the same name, and made reference to the headlines accounting the explosive rupture of her affair with singer Zizi Possi. In 1982, she had another hit with "Simples Carinho" (João Donato/Abel Silva), included in the 1983 same-titled LP. Maria Bethânia, who had recorded "Gota de Sangue" in her Mel LP (1979), re-recorded "Fogueira" (1983), which was recorded by Ângela Ro Ro in the same year for the Simples Carinho LP. A Vida é Mesmo Assim (1984) had success with the title track. Besides her participation in the Songbook series (Lumiar), she recorded the following solo LPs/CDs: Eu Desatino (1985), Prova de Amor (1988), Nosso Amor ao Armagedon (Ao Vivo) (1993), and Acertei no Milênio (2000). In 1996, Barão Vermelho had a hit with the re-recording of "Amor, Meu Grande Amor." In the same year, Polygram reissued in CD the 1982 LP Simples Carinho. In 1997, Eldorado reissued in CD the 1988 LP Prova de Amor.

Milton Banana Trio - Ao Meu Amigo Chico | Samba e Isso Vol. 3 (1979)
This is the right choice for a Saturday night, one of those releaxed Milton Banana Trio albums from the "Samba e Isso" series, a numbered series with the last three ones dedicated to Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim and Vinicius. We already made Milton Banana tribute to Tom Jobim and this is the time to show what he made to Chico Buarque. The last one to Vinicius de Moraes is probably the hardest to find, at least, I do not have it so far.
This is Milton Banana Trio - Ao Meu Amigo Chico | Samba e Isso Vol. 3 (1979), for RCA Victor. Personnel is not listed and each track brings two Chico Buarque tunes. Some tracks have nice female vocals on a delicious record to hear. This cover is amazing and the album to Vinicius has also an amazing cover with Milton having a beer at Garota de Ipanema bar with the Girl of Ipanema walking around. Tracks include:
01 - Cálice (Chico Buarque / Gilberto Gil) Quando o Carnaval Chegar (Chico Buarque)
02 - Gente Humilde (Garoto / Vinicius de Moraes / Chico Buarque) Vai Trabalhar Vagabundo (Chico Buarque)
03 - A Rita - Meu Refrão (Chico Buarque)
04 - Apesar de Você (Chico Buarque) Cara a Cara (Chico Buarque)
05 - Até Segunda-feira (Chico Buarque) Bom Tempo (Chico Buarque)
06 - Homenagem ao Malandro (Chico Buarque) Olhos nos Olhos (Chico Buarque)
07 - Atrás da Porta (Chico Buarque / Francis Hime) Tatuagem (Chico Buarque / Ruy Guerra) A Banda (Chico Buarque)
08 - Pivete (Chico Buarque / Francis Hime) Feijoada Completa (Chico Buarque)
09 - Vai Levando (Chico Buarque / Caetano Veloso) Partido Alto (Chico Buarque)
10 - Noite dos Mascarados (Chico Buarque) Com Açúcar Com Afeto (Chico Buarque)
11 - Carolina (Chico Buarque) Januária (Chico Buarque)
12 - Até o Fim (Chico Buarque) Meu Caro Amigo (Chico Buarque / Francis Hime)
13 - Gota D'água (Chico Buarque) Retrato Em Branco e Preto (Chico Buarque / Tom Jobim)
14 - Quem Te Viu Quem Te Vê (Chico Buarque) Roda Viva (Chico Buarque)

Music Video | Joao Gilberto - Insensatez (1983)
You are probably asking yourself "when this parrot will get tired showing Joao Gilberto videos?" I would answer, never, but this one is really fascinating, simply the best interpretation of Insensatez (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes), taken from a concert in Rome, 1983. Please use the increase lens to watch the original and big version.

Simonetti & Orquestra RGE - Samba 707 (1960)
Hello, Good Evening! I could hear today Forma e Elenco, which is a Bossa Nova radio show produced and presented by a Loronixer, Leo RJ. Today's show was about the legendary Sinatra-Farney Fan Club and Leo RJ urge his audience to reach Loronix to see the Sinatra-Farney Fan Club green wallet made available on our last Dick Farney post. Very nice show and I will manage with Leo how to make it available to Loronixers as a Podcast or so. Let's make a great and fast start today with one of the artists that I like most.
This is Maestro Simonetti & Orquestra RGE - Samba 707 (1960), for RGE. Such like the last and successful Brasil a Jato, which was a tribute to Varig airlines and the acquisition of their first Caravelle airplanes, Samba 707 has also Varig affairs and celebrates the acquisition of the first Boeing 707 airplanes. This record has more than 40 years and airplanes design did not change much since then. I'm busy today and this is a self-explanatory release. Tracks include:
01 - Se Acaso Você Chegasse (Lupicínio Rodrigues / Felisberto Martins)
02 - Implorar (Germano Augusto / Kid Pepe / Gaspar)
03 - Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos "Bide" / Armando "Marçal")
04 - General da Banda (Sátiro de Melo / José Alcides / Tancredo Silva)
05 - Tem Pena de Mim (Hervé Cordovil)
06 - Morena Boca de Ouro (Ary Barroso)
07 - Império do Samba (Zé da Zilda / Zilda do Zé)
08 - A Lapa (Benedito Lacerda / Herivelto Martins)
09 - Foi Ela (Ary Barroso)
10 - Boeing (Claude)
11 - Helena Helena (Antônio Almeida / Constantino Silva "Secundino")
12 - Botões de Laranjeira (Pedro Caetano)

Toquinho e Sadao Watanabe - Made in Coracao (1988)
Toquinho and Sadao Watanabe. Toquinho spent some months in Japan by the end of the 80's, making concerts with Sadao Watanabe, but I never heard about a record as the outcome of this partnership. Great surprise. This is another Sadao Watanabe connection with Brazilian. I'm really curious to get feedback from Loronixers about this album.
This is Toquinho e Sadao Wataname - Made in Coracao (1988), for EMI Odeon. When I saw this record for the first time I thought it was an instrumental album, I was wrong, Toquinho sings and most of the compositions are from Toquinho and Sadao Watanabe. They probably had a great time in this recording session; the album is relaxed and delicious to hear. Amilson Godoi is in charge of arrangements, piano and keyboards. Tracks include:
01 - Made In Coração (Toquinho)
02 - Filho Meu (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)
03 - O Que Passou Passou (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)
04 - Samba da Volta (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 - Inquieto Amor (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)
06 - Minha Profissão (Toquinho)
07 - Sentimentos Iguais (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)
08 - Bons Momentos (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)
09 - Carinhoso (Pixinguinha / João de Barro)
10 - Saudade de Elis (Toquinho / Sadao Watanabe)

Music Video | George Shearing - O Morro nao Tem Vez with Lilian Carmona
Hello, Good Evening! It has been a month or two since we made available a set of videos with Luiz Eca, Luiz Alves and a wonderful female drummer called Lilian Carmona. By that time, I received some emails asking for more information about Lilian Carmona and I could not help that much, little is known about her.
Luiz Harding sent today a video with the legendary George Shearing and - guess who? - Lilian Carmona. I'm feeling confused to pick up the main performer on this video. Anyway, let's say this is George Shearing and Lilian Carmona performing O Morro Nao Tem Vez (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) in another fantastic video powered by Luiz Harding.
Hope uEnjoy!

Elza Soares - Elza Pede Passagem (1972)
Tomorrow is Friday and for those who are reading this post before going to work don't skip it, this album will make you drive until work alive and kicking. If you miss it, don't worry and make it on Monday. This is the kind of music that saves a day and Loronix has been in fault with Elza Soares, the last time she had an album at Loronix was last year, December 1st.
This is Elza Soares - Elza Pede Passagem (1972), for Odeon. I could not check the reason why this album was not a commercial success by its release time, Elza Pede Passagem is very representative and one of the best albums recorded by Elza Soares in the 70's, being also considered a classic samba-soul record. A big orchestra having the legendary Dom Salvador in charge of arrangements in all tracks accompanies Elza. Personnel is not listed. I'm also making available a video with Elza Soares performing Rio, Carnaval dos Carnavais in a Brazilian movie from the same year. Tracks include:
01 - Cheguendengo (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi / Renato Luis Lobo)
02 - Saltei de Banda (Zé Rodrix / Luis Carlos Sá)
03 - Maria Vai Com as Outras (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 - Samba da Pá (João Só)

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Raizes (1972)
I don't know how popular and the availability of this Sergio Mendes LP outside Brazil. I guess this is a widely unknown record since it is a pretty experimental album from Sergio Mendes and his Brasil '77. I want to say thanks to Justin for making zecalouro remembers this record, which worth the sharing as a really out of the standard works by Sergio Mendes. Let's see why.
This is Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Raizes (1972), for A&M. This album was recorded in Brazil and does not have in fact any commercial expectations. It is a unique dive inside Brazilian ritualistic rhythms from Bahia full of percussion instruments lead by Rubens Bassini, vocals by Gracinha Leporace and Geri Stevens with Oscar Castro Neves guitar played loud from the start to end of this beautiful and unusual album. Perhaps is the first time an album is released at Loronix with a giant track of 19 minutes and I never could realize that Sergio Mendes would be responsible by this accomplishment. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Promessa de Pescador (Dorival Caymmi)
02 - Após o Amanhecer (After Sunrise) (Tião Neto / Oscar Castro Neves)
03 - Canto de Ubiratan (Tradicional / Adpt. Sergio Mendes)
04 - Iemanjá (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 - Pomba Gira (Tradicional / Adpt. Sergio Mendes)
06 - Jogo de Roda (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)

Baden Powell - Baden Powell Quartet V. 2 (1971)
When I research for Baden Powell info, the first and only place I go is the great BrazilOnGuitar, a free project, better, a love project to Baden Powell memory. I can live ten times and I would not make better and with the passion we have at their Opus. That's why I'm asking their help to describe another Baden Powell album.
This is Baden Powell - Baden Powell Quartet Vol. 2 (1971), for Barclay. Visiting BrazilOnGuitar I learned that Baden Powell Quartet volumes one to three were recorded on a single session during three days in December 1970. We have already Vol. 3 at Loronix and now it is time to present Vol. 2. BrazilOnGuitar description is just bellow, followed by personnel. Tracks include:
Brazil-on-Guitar description
In December 1970s of the threepart series were recorded within three days in the Barclay studio. They are the best and final recordings of the quartet with its original members. The focus here is on Afro-Brazilian music, though not as conceptually closed as on "Canto on Guitar". There are Folklore and own compositions, as well as variations of "Pai" and "Filho".
The almost ten minutes lasting "Terra de Katmandou" is a mixture of many styles, citations and rhythms, creating a trancelike, meditative mood.
The records contribute to the image of the guitarist until today due to their high musical level and their fresh sound. His improvisational talent doesn't need shallow virtuosity, which tends to cover weak spots and lacking imagination. Consistently Baden Powell takes up new ideas, new lines and rejects others.
For the first time he works together with the singer Janine de Waleyne, after discovering her in the choir of Adamo. Janine's voice merges with the melody lines of Baden's guitar playing. Her adapdability is impressive. The non-verbality between their voices, unbound of language, opens much freedom for the music. Something Baden Powell consistently searched and found in 1970.
We thank Robert G. (Germany) for his translation.

This album is from a time when Brazilian instrumental music was a mass audience product and features one of the most important musicians from the 40's to 70's, Fafa Lemos, an artist that recorded several solo releases and played with almost all the Brazilian stars of that time.
This is Fafa Lemos - Trio do Fafa (1958), for RCA Victor. Unfortunately, the album cover does not have personnel information and we can only "guess" Trio do Fafa members. I think members were not revealed due legal issue since both are outlined at front cover. Fafa Lemos recorded his last album with Carolina Cardoso de Menezes in 1989 and passed away at the age of 83, in 2004. Tracks include:
01 - Un Violino Nel Mio Cuore (Meu Coração É Um Violino) (Laparcerie / Rastelli)
02 - Saudades da Bahia (Dorival Caymmi)
03 - Cem Mil Réis (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
04 - Emília (Wilson Batista / Haroldo Lobo)
05 - Morena Boca de Ouro (Ary Barroso)
06 - Solução (Raul Sampaio / Ivo Santos)
07 - No Mar Negro (L. Rodi)
08 - Fantasma do Cajú (Berico / Franco Ferreira)
09 - Silêncio de Um Minuto (Noel Rosa)
10 - Lá Vem a Baiana (Dorival Caymmi)
11 - Se Acaso Você Chegasse (Lupicínio Rodrigues / Felisberto Martins)
12 - Fracassos de Amor (Tito Madi / Milton Silva)

Challenge | Tell us who is this singer, group and members
Hello, Good Evening! I had a great day and I hope you had also. Loronix engineers finally reach a conclusion to pick up the winner of our survey. I will make a checkpoint with Loronix engineers in 15 minutes to wrap-up the procedures, which will be announced tomorrow. If you did not engage the survey, don't miss the chance, here. Stay tuned for further instructions tomorrow.
Now I have only 10 minutes and I hope to finish this post before the meeting. This is a movie from 1949 and the challenge is the identification of the singer, group and one of its members, a renowned Brazilian artist.
Challenge, tell us who is this female singer, the group and one of its members, a famous Brazilian artist. This is one of the greatest challenges ever at Loronix.
Hope uEnjoy!

Secos & Molhados - Secos & Molhados (1973)
I was very reluctant to release this post, since Loronix first day. This is not the music that we are used to see on this little space. However, they are part of Brazilian popular music history and if you neglect them you are not telling the true story. I love these guys; they were part of my childhood opening up my mind to another kind of music.
This album sold 700,000 copies in 1973. We can say that Secos & Molhados was a revolutionary band, making the bridge between Bossa Nova, Tropicalismo until the embryo of Brazilian Rock. They released two albums and then were dissolved. Perhaps the story of Brazilian Rock would be completely different if they move further. Let's see what we have here.
This is Secos & Molhados - Secos & Molhados (1973), for Copacabana. I will take Alvaro Neder review from AMG to describe this album, take a special attention on how they mix electric guitars with Brazilian percussion on unique arrangements. The bass playing is superb with arrangements by the friends Joao Ricardo and Gerson Conrad. I'm making a video with two big hits from this album, Sangue Latino and O Vira. Don't let these tunes cheat you, they are only the most popular tunes and do not preview the full album. Tracks include:
AMG Review
This is the debut album from the group Secos e Molhados. It was a boom from the start, and several tracks became overnight hits throughout Brazil. Ney Matogrosso, the lead singer, took the hearts of Brazilian people with his ambivalent sexual identity, his sopranino voice, and extravagant adornments. It was natural that he departed for a highly successful solo career one year after this release, which has since then been converted in a cult album, until today tenderly regarded and played through Brazil. The members had no connection with Tropicália, which had occurred almost ten years before, but the album is a direct product of that movement. The kaleidoscope of rhythms, from American blues to the Portuguese "vira," melted in pop renditions with plenty of overdriven guitars and Brazilian percussion, intended to provide a Brazilian-based psychedelic atmosphere on an album full of artistic sincerity.

This is the first out of five records released by Philips between 1963 and 1964 with the "hits" from the artists of Philips cast. What a cast! Hits da Bossa Nova is probably one of the best compilations I have ever seen. In spite of the nice repertoire selection, Hits da Bossa Nova features tracks never released on regular recordings, providing a guaranteed entertainment for starters and experienced collectors.
If you are new to Bossa Nova, you should take it.

Elis Regina - "Madalena" (1970) EP
Last year, I started a series of releases summarizing several Singles, EPs on a single posts. I would never make such think today, Singles and EPs were an essential part of an artist discography until the mid 80's and we need to approach them such like we do with regular LPs. Once in a while I will make some posts on this size, making really relevant peaks.
Such like this one. I had this EP. I cannot remember how it was gone. However I could get if back on good conditions and it is so good that I want to show it for Loronix friends.
This is Elis Regina - "Madalena" (1970), for Philips as 441.473. This EP includes two tracks that were only released on LP a year later at Ela, Madalena and Falei e disse. Unfortunately, I don't have Ela, so I cannot guarantee if both tunes were released such like presented here or recorded for Ela. This is "Elis Regina as a Glance", all tracks are wonderful. Arrangements by Maestro Erlon Chaves e Chico de Moraes. Tracks include:
01 - Madalena (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
02 - Fechado Pra Balanço (Gilberto Gil)
03 - Falei E Disse (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
04 - Vou Deitar E Rolar (Paulo César Pinheiro / Baden Powell)

Elizeth Cardoso - Cancao do Amor Demais (1958)
We started the weekend with the repost of Milton Banana Trio - Balancando com Milton Banana Trio and we are now closing with another repost, by the way, a mandatory repost. This album has a very important role on the history of the music from Brazil and the music that connect our hearts at Loronix, the Bossa Nova.
This is Elizeth Cardoso - Cancao do Amor Demais (1958). Recorded in 1958 by the small label Festa, Cancao do Amor Demais brings 13 compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes and Joao Gilberto making the first recording of his famous Bossa Nova playing style. Antonio Carlos Jobim is also in charge of arrangements and piano. In spite of being a historical album, Cancao do Amor Demais is delicious to hear, even after 50 years. Elizeth Cardoso is the main performer and this is one of her best records I have heard.
I bought this vinyl a week ago in one of those hard to explain bargains This is not the original edition, but a reissue made by Festa in 1960, two years before. The back cover brings a wonderful hand write liner note by Vinicius de Moraes, included inside the music and so good that I'm making available here if you cannot wait. I hope you support these weekend reposting; I will focus on essentials and the already explained criterion of making it in an excelent quality. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Chega de Saudade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Serenata do Adeus (Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - As Praias Desertas (Tom Jobim)

Conjunto Brasilia Ritmos - Ritmos do Brasil (1959) featuring Sivuca
I was reluctant to make this post, worried that you might think this is a record for completionists and fans of the lovely guy holding the accordion at the right side, but I learned that several other artists took part on this group. Additionally, the record is good, especially if you are in the mood of a Brazilian regional music with a lot of viola, percussion and accordion, for sure. Let's see what is the feedback.
This is Conjunto Brasilia Ritmos - Ritmos do Brasil (1959), for Odeon, featuring Sivuca, Waldir Azevedo, Tiao Marinho and others. Little is know about this album and Conjunto Brasilia Ritmos, except a detailed personnel listing, which was gathered from Jornal Musical. If someone has additional information about this project, feel free to write a comment. I have been tracking it down today with no success. Tracks include:

Djalma Ferreira e Seus Milionarios do Ritmo - Depois do Drink (1959)
Hello, Good Evening! I never started that late a night at Loronix. I'm coming from Easter time with my parents. I spend always half an hour driving back from their home and today I took two. The reason was a rainstorm that finally has arrived in Rio, a late rainstorm, supposed to happen on March, but with this crazy world of today just came almost in the middle of April. I was wondering in the car, Jobim would not write Aguas de Marco as he did living in the world today, he would not write "Sao as aguas de Marco fechando o Verao". The Waters of March did not close summer this year.
Anyway, let's start with a record that has something unique, personnel listing and a different atmosphere, recorded by the owner of a label that produced coolest covers of the late 50's, Discos Drink.
This is Djalma Ferreira e Os Seus Milionarios do Ritmo - Depois do Drink (1959), for Discos Drink. Remember Djalma Ferreira, the very famous Brazilian organist from the late 50's, owner of Drink Nightclub and also responsible for the label Discos Drink. I have most of the LPs released by Djalma Ferreira e Os Seus Milionarios do Ritmo and most of them have a cover that opens showing nice drawings from that time, such like this one with the model Manon Godoy, which I'm sure Refer knows everything about.
As I said before, Personnel is unique, bringing Ed Lincoln, probably making a transition from bass to piano and organ, Waltel Branco, playing guitar and bass and Helcio Milito, drummer of the Mighty Tamba Trio. Depois do Drink has only instrumental tracks with several Hammond B3 shady effects that you will enjoy a lot. tracks include:
