Hello, good evening! Yesterday, I spoke about my commitment to make an above the average Samba Saturday at Loronix. I hope my limited Samba knowledge do not spoil the day, but I think we have a fine selection of three very solid listens. If everything runs according with my schedule, we will start smooth with Jair Rodrigues, gradually entering to a more Samba Roots oriented terrain, until the last and awesome release. Let's see.
This is Jair Rodrigues - Orgulho de Um Sambista (1973), for Philips, which is Jair Rodrigues at his peak. I'm only disappointed of not making available complete personnel listing, it seems to be a norm at Philips to do not give credit to musicians in the set, as RCA Victor always did on most to its 70's releases. Jair Rodrigues is self-explanatory, he is a great Samba interpreter and it is all about happiness. Tracks include:
01 - Sou da Madrugada (Gilson de Souza / Wando)
02 - Carnaval Não Envelhece (Gilson de Souza)
03 - Tem Capoeira (Batista da Mangueira)
04 - Certeza (Beto Scala / São Beto)
05 - As Quatro Estações do Ano (Bidi)
06 - Ninguém Sofre Mais Que Eu (B. Barbosa) Tristeza (Edil Pacheco / Carlos Lacerda) Tristeza (Niltinho Tristeza / Haroldo Lobo)
07 - Boi da Cara Preta (Eneida Amor e Fantasia) (Zuzuca)
08 - Folia Carnaval e Cinzas (Gilson de Souza / Jair Rodrigues)
09 - Lendas do Abaeté (Jajá / Preto Rico / Manoel)
10 - Estrela do Morro (Edil Pacheco / Paulo Diniz)
11 - O Menino da Porteira (Teddy Vieira / Luisinho)
12 - Terra Azul (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
13 - Orgulho de Um Sambista (Gilson de Souza)

Clara Nunes - Guerreira (1978)
This post is to show my commitment to deliver a unforgettable Samba Saturday tomorrow. Friends like moos and many other Samba enthusiasts are getting disappointed with 3 non-Samba weekends at Loronix and there is nothing more associated with Samba than Clara Nunes. Let's see.
This is Clara Nunes - Guerreira (1978), for Odeon. We have here a late album by Clara Nunes, featuring a mature artist with total control of his interpretation and beautiful voice. The first track gives the album title and worth the entire record. I'm not knowledgeable on Clara Nunes discography, so I'm taking in consideration my listening experience and this one is so far the most pleasant Clara Nunes I have ever heard. Personnel features a constellation of Brazilian musicians with three Maestros in charge of arrangements, as highlighted on track list. Tracks include:

Varios Artistas - A Musica de Dorival Caymmi (1981)
I'm a parrot that does not take compilations so much in consideration, being eventually hooked by some exceptions, such like this one issued by Continental as a tribute to Dorival Caymmi music. I think even Dorival Caymmi would like to take this one for a spin. A Musica de Dorival Caymmi features the best of Dorival Caymmi music performed by several artists, with one single exception, 08 – E Doce Morrer no Mar, performed by Dorival Caymmi. The repertoire selection and performers makes the difference here, we have some artists will make you feel the willing of getting more by their solo works. Let's see.
This is A Musica de Dorival Caymmi (1981), for Continental, featuring various artists performing Dorival Caymmi music, such as: Os Novos Baianos, Aquarius, Osmar Milito, Titulares do Ritmo, Os 3 Morais, Ed Lincoln, among others. The variety of styles having Dorival Caymmi music in common is what makes this compilation unique. Tracks include:

Saraiva - Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas (1964)
We have been with great Brazilian sax players since Loronix beginning, such like Paulo Moura, Moacyr Silva, Zito Righi, Juarez Araujo and many others. However, some others musicians that dedicated his life to this instrument or this family of instrument did not reach our website already. This post comes to show one of these artists that never had a career album made available to our community, although active on recordings or studio sessions. I think that Saraiva is a great start to this series, I could not find much info about him, but he recorded several albums, being this one his first. Let's see.
This is Saraiva - Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas (1964), for Continental, presented here by a mid-70's Phonodisk reissue. Saraiva does not keep his playing connected with a given style, delivering Sambas, Boleros and mostly Choros. You will not find Bossa Nova standard tunes at Sobre o Ritmo das Ondas, all tracks are composed by Luiz dos Santos, which is probably the own Saraiva. I think Loronixers will receive Saraiva with enthusiasm; this is a very nice record, released in the Bossa Nova age with a repertoire of Choros, a genre that almost disappeared during the 60's. Tracks include:
01 - Bodas de Ouro (Luis dos Santos / Alfredo Celso)
02 - Corintiano (Luis dos Santos / Palmeira)
03 - Célio no Baião (Luis dos Santos / Nairson Menezes)
04 - Não Me Toque Assim (Luis dos Santos / Leonel Cruz)
05 - Mulher Fingida (Luis dos Santos / Palmeira)
06 - Galera do Nelson (Luis dos Santos / Teixeira Filho)
07 - Relembrando o Passado (Luis dos Santos / Ivanildo José da Silva)
08 - Selma (Luis dos Santos / Nelson Machado)
09 - É Disso Que Eu Gosto (Luis dos Santos / Milton José)
10 - A Natureza (Luis dos Santos / J. Luna)
11 - Morada Perdida (Luis dos Santos / Waldemar Pimentel)
12 - Foi de Lá Que Eu Vim (Luis dos Santos / Victor Settanni)

Hareton Salvanini - S.P. / 73 (1973)
I could not believe when I found this album at the R$ 1 (one Real, or US$ .50c) section of an influential vinyl store in Rio de Janeiro. Perhaps a new employee did it by mistake because the eyes of the shop owner went big as a golf ball and his humor changed when I claimed this album by this price. Some sellers at e-bay are listing this piece for more than a US$ 100.
Anyway, this is not the reason that I'm reposting this album, Hareton Salvanini - S.P. / 73 (1973) is really unique and deserves this "remastered" version with updates on cover artwork and also a new ripping, with FLAC files option. Let's see.
This is Hareton Salvanini - S.P. / 73 (1973), for Continental, featuring the arranger, composer, singer and multi instrumentalist Hareton Salvanini, a pretty unknown artist for Brazil mass audience that recorded some albums in the early 70's and then changed his career to jingle and soundtrack recording with more than 5,000 works delivered in decades. This album is still fresh after more than 30 years with Hareton Salvanini delivering orchestra, psychodelia, jazz and funk on a very well done melting pot that will make you feel like hearing Prelude by Eumir Deodato. I urge Loronixers to send feedback at comment section to help us understand a little bit more of Hareton Salvanini and his acclaimed S.P. / 73. Tracks include:

Varios Artistas - Matematica, Zero... Amor, Dez (1958)
This album was supposed to be one of the greatest zecalouro's mother findings ever. Let's say it still her great finding, but there is a major and unacceptable failure with this album. The vinyl played perfect on side A, however, side B is exactly the same as side A. Columbia made both sides as A by mistake. Such like the missing Joao Gilberto track, I'm now asking for Loronixers help to find the missing side B of this fantastic album. Let's see, half of it.
This is Matematica, zero... Amor, Dez... (1958), for Columbia, the OST of the Brazilian movie, featuring a constellation at t cast with acting performances of Lyrio Panicali (as Lyrio Panicali e Sua Orquestra), Tito Madi, Lana Bittencourt, Maysa Mattarazo (as Maysa), Sylvio Mazzucca (as Sylvio Mazucca e Sua Orquestra), Sergio Murilo, Carlos Machado, Luiz Claudio and others, almost all the artists we know acting. Unfortunately, only side A is available. Tracks include:

02 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) - Lana Bittencourt
03 - Sax Cantabile (Armando Dominguez) - Silvio Mazzuca e Sua Orquestra

Arthur Moreira Lima - Arthur Moreira Lima plays Tangos & Waltzes of Ernesto Nazareth (1982)
Hello, good evening! A friend that left his nick with a nice comment sent this album. However, he did not leave and email and I don't know if he wants to be identified with the alias he uses. He sent a really nice contribution, the third on the new FLAC format, featuring a very important artist that never had a chance to be introduced to our community, the Brazilian pianist Arthur Moreira Lima. Let's see.
This is Arthur Moreira Lima - Arthur Moreira Lima Plays Tangos & Waltzes of Ernesto Nazareth (1982), for Intersound, recorded September 13-15, 1982, at the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters on the Steinway CD 372 piano. Thanks to the now revealed AdHoc for this info. Arthur Moreira Lima is worldwide acclaimed as one of the best Frederic Chopin interpreters, being also a successful popular music artist. It is hard to write this in English, Arthur Moreira Lima is the kind of guy that everybody would like to meet in the end of the day at Copacanana to drink some beers, a very cool character and also one of the most renowned tricolores (friends who support Fluminense Football Club, a soccer team in Rio de Janeiro).
His works in the field of popular music includes his association with Paulo Moura, Elomar, Heraldo do Monte, Conjunto Epoca de Ouro, Ney Matogrosso, Rafael Rabello and Ernesto Nazareth, which is a very popular Brazilian composed that had a profound influence on the course of Brazilian music, such like Heitor Villa Lobos. I urge Loronixers to send feedback on this anthological record where once again classical music meets popular music. Tracks include:
01 - Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth)
02 - Escorregando (Ernesto Nazareth)
03 - Duvidoso (Ernesto Nazareth)
04 - Eponina (Ernesto Nazareth)
05 - Batuque (Ernesto Nazareth)
06 - Fon-Fon (Ernesto Nazareth)
07 - Confidencias (Ernesto Nazareth)
08 - Famoso (Ernesto Nazareth)
09 - Mercedes (Ernesto Nazareth)
10 - Vem Ca, Branquinha (Ernesto Nazareth)
11 - Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazareth)
12 - Brejeiro (Ernesto Nazareth)
13 - Bambino (Ernesto Nazareth)
14 - Sarambeque (Ernesto Nazareth)
15 - Carioca (Ernesto Nazareth)

Cristina Buarque - Cristina (1974)
Since we made a Cristina Buarque EP some weeks ago, friends got excited to hear the whole LP where that EP tracks were taken. I'm glad to find it on a very good condition in the beginning of this week, and I'm amazed with this album and with the delicate voice and Cristina Buarque interpretation. Cristina Buarque delivers a very solid album, above the average for a debut LP. Let's see.
This is Cristina Buarque - Cristina (1973), for RCA Victor. Justin Thyme will be pleased with another RCA Victor studios Samba album. Cristina performs a repertoire of Sambas with some beautiful forgotten selections from Samba legends from the past, such like Noel Rosa and Lupscinio Rodrigues, along with Samba composers from the 70's, with highlights to Dona Ivone Lara, Paulinho da Viola, Nelson Cavaquinho and others. Cesar Camargo Mariano delivers arrangements and piano playing and some tracks and Cristina Buarque as the accompaniment of a constellation of Brazilian musicians, such as Cartola playing violao on track 02 - Ao Amanhecer. Inside the music, you will find detailed information on each song composers and musicians. Tracks include:

Joao Gilberto - Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | EP 45rpm (1959) now complete
Update:
This is Joao Gilberto - Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | 45rpm (1959), for Odeon, featuring songs taken from Black Orpheus original song track. While friends are searching for the missing track, it is a good idea to listen to Joao Gilberto performing the three ones available. Tracks include:
01 - A Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Manha de Carnaval (Luiz Bonfa / Antonio Maria)
03 - O Nosso Amor (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 - Frevo (Antonio Carlos Jobim)
I was loosing my hope to have this album with the four tracks; I'm always underestimating the strength of our community. Galego, which is a brand new friend of Loronix, sent it to us a few minutes ago in a very nice quality. This is the reason for making it again, once again, direct link to music, no Rapidshare.
I would like to thanks Galego for providing 04 - Frevo, the missing track. This post was a blockbuster with more than 700 downloads so far.

Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova
I think we are entering on a phase where everybody is excited to know not credited artists behind Bossa Nova albums. Caetano Rodrigues comes to bring another contribution to our community. Caetano comes with a challenge, delivering an album that I could not gather any info about. Let's see.
This is Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova (no date), for unknown label. I'm not sure if Caetano Rodrigues knows the Brazilian label that issues Os Romanticos, otherwise, this should be the first album released at Loronix with a non-identified label. Anyway, the mystery is not finished; we don't know who is Os Romanticos, musicians and release date. The album features soft instrumental Bossa Nova renditions performed with percussion, bass, guitar, accordion and violin. Caetano urges Loronixers to get more information about Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova. Tracks include:
01 - Lindos Olhos Azuis
02 - Preciso dar um Jeito
03 - Chega de Sofrer
04 - Depois do Carnaval
05 - Historia
06 - Corcovado
07 - O Amor em Paz
08 - De Mais Amor
09 - Menino Desce Dai
10 - Samba em Preludio
11 - Deixa a Nega Gingar
12 - Que Saudade

Les 4 Cadillacs - Les 4 Cadillacs (1963)
Hello, good evening! Let's start today with a group that started as "trial" and now is a real mania among Loronixers, I'm talking about Les 4 Cadillacs, another nice creation of Musidisc owner Nilo Sergio. We have already three Les 4 Cadillacs albums available at Loronix, and this one is perhaps the best one, being also the most popular, perhaps by the cover showing these four Cadillacs. Let's see.
This is Les 4 Cadillacs - Les 4 Cadillacs (1963), for Musidisc. We have a major change on our Les 4 Cadillacs sequel, in addition to the band leader, the legendary Ed Lincoln at the piano, vinylmaniac provided a couple of days ago the identification of the three other Cadillacs, thanks vinylmaniac! They are: Durval Ferreira (guitar), Luis Marinho (bass) and Wilson das Neves (drums). This is an awesome revelation. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Buenas Noches Mi Amor (H. Giraud / M. Fontenoy)
02 - Mondo Cane (More) (N. Oliviero / R. Ortolani / N. Ciorciolini)
03 - Legata Ad Un Granello Di Sabbia (N. Fidenco / F. D. Marchetti)

05 - Dearly Beloved (J. Kern)
06 - Canto o Fado (João Nobre)
07 - Soy Un Extraño (Gonzalo Curiel)
08 - Na Madrugada (Nilo Sergio)
09 - I Left My Heart In San Francisco (Cross / Cory)
10 - Scusame (Malgoni / Perone)
11 - Call Me Irresponsible (J. V. Heusen / S. Cahn)
12 - Rome Adventur (Hugo / Luigi / Weiss)

Banda da Policia Militar de Minas Gerais - Villa Lobos, Na Musica de Banda (1963)
The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais has taken the spotlight today. Minas is the home of many Loronixers, being the third Brazilian state driving traffic to Loronix. Once again we are making the bridge between popular music and classic music, delivering the second album by the label Caravelle, featuring a military band performing Heitor Villa Lobos. Sounds great. Let's see.
This is Banda da Policia Militar de Minas Gerais - Villa Lobos, Na Musica de Banda (1963), for Caravelle. I never saw something like this, an album featuring a military band performing Villa Lobos. A military band consists of wind and percussion instruments and personnel are made of military, which are also musicians. The conductor of a band is also a military, but in this opportunity, we have a civilian, Maestro Sebastiao Vianna as Bandleader. Banda da Policia Militar de Minas Gerais is still active and I hope they get really happy to see their album at Loronix. Tracks include:
01 - Canto do Paje
02 - A Canoa Virou
03 - Na Bahia Tem
04 - O Ciranda, O Cirandinha
05 - Vem ca o Siriri
06 - Terezinha de Jesus
07 - Nesta Rua
08 - Constancia
09 - La na Ponte da Vinhaca
10 - Entrei na Roda
11 - Brasil Novo
12 - Desfile aos Herois do Brasil
13 - Cancao da Imprensa
14 - Pro Pax
(*) Tracks 02 to 10 are my favorites, Villa Lobos renditions to popular cantigas de roda.

Zezinho e Seu Conjunto - Zezinho e Seu Sombalanco (1965)
Here we go on another record kindly sent by tcisalpino, which is so far our consistent FLAC contributor. tcisalpino makes something different, instead of a reposting he brings a LP never released before at Loronix, a nice and very solid album. Let's see.
This is Zezinho e Seu Conjunto - Zezinho e Seu Sombalanco (1965), for Chantecler. First thing, a few other artists with the name "Zezinho" exist, this Zezinho should not be taken as Zezinho from Zezinho e Os Copacabanas or Zezinho, the bass player. Jose Batista da Silva Junior (Zezinho) is a pianist and arranger, being an active musician since the 50's. He recorded four albums for Chantecler, being this one his debut LP. Zezinho plays piano and makes arrangements for Zezinho e Seu Sambalanco delivering above the average instrumental renditions to Bossa Nova standards and some unknown tunes. Strongly recommended. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Não Me Diga Adeus (Paquito / Luis Soberano / João Correia da Silva)
02 - Pra Seu Governo (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira)
03 - Rosinha no Balanço (Felippe Tedesco / Mário Gennari Filho)
04 - Xiborena (Tabú / Fernando Marcel)
05 - Melancolia (Denis Brean)

Delano (also known as Geraldo Vespar) | Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio - Bronzes & Cristais (1963)
Hello, good evening! Let's start this Monday with another album sponsored by zecalouro's mother, which is gradually becoming a great finder. Mon has been delivering solid records, presenting this time an artist and an orchestra never released before at Loronix. Let's see.
This is Delano | Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio - Bronzes & Cristais (1963), for Copacanana, featuring the Brazilian guitarist Delano backed by Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio with arrangements by Maestro Guerra Peixe and Pachequinho. I never heard about Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio, however, my searches results in two additional albums, each one with a different main performer, such as this one with Delano. The others are Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio em Hollywood featuring Ronnie Will and Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio em Hollywood Vol. 2, featuring Chaim Lewak, the legendary pianist. Maestros Guerra Peixe and Pachequinho deliver nice orchestra arrangements to back Delano guitar. Remaining personnel is not credited. Tracks include:
01 - Bronzes e Cristais (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Nazareno de Brito)
02 - Et Maintenant (E Agora) (Gilbert Bécaud / P. Delanoe)
03 - It Happened In Athenas (M. Hadjidakis / C. Haldeman)
04 - Swedish Rhapsody (C. Wildman)
05 - Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)
06 - Come September (Quando Setembro Vier) (B. Darin)
07 - Balada do Amor Sublime (Luis Vieira)
08 - Autumn Love Song (Canção de Outono) (Vaughn / Wood)
09 - Tema de Meia-noite (Nazareno de Brito)
10 - The Bird Man (E. Bernstein / M. David)
11 - A Mesma Rosa Amarela (Capiba / Carlos Penna Filho)

Ze Maria e Seu Orgao - Tudo Azul (1962) with JORGE BEN
This is the greatest Mon's finding ever, a pretty unknown reissue of the anthological Ze Maria album Tudo Azul, featuring vocals by Jorge Ben. This album was already available at Loronix with the blue cover of the first issue (available in your left), but the vinyl conversion was not so well done and probably several friends did not notice its availability and the importance of this record. Let's see.
This is Ze Maria e Seu Orgao - Tudo Azul (1962), for Continental, upgraded by Disco Lar 1969 reissue. In spite of being an above the average instrumental organ album, including some tracks of true Samba Jazz style, Tudo Azul has one of the first participations of Jorge Ben on recordings, delivering vocals at 02 - Por Causa de Voce Menina and 07 - Mas que Nada. Jorge Ben was pretty unknown by this time and he got a contract with Philips just before this participation on Ze Maria's album. I think Bossa Nova collectors will be amazed with this release, just like Caetano Rodrigues was today when I spoke about it. Tracks include:
01 - Tudo Azul (João de Barro / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)
02 - Por Causa de Você Menina (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor") with JORGE BEN
03 - Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
04 - Japoninho (Orlann Divo / Roberto Jorge)
05 - Só Danço Samba (Vinicius de Moraes / Tom Jobim)
06 - João Sem Vintém (Zé Maria)
07 - Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor") with JORGE BEN
08 - Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
09 - A Vida do Negro (Orlann Divo / Amaury Tristão)
10 - Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
11 - Deixa Eu Ficar (Esther Delamare)
12 - Gostoso É Sambar (João Mello)

Carmen Miranda - A Pequena Notavel (no date)
Hello, good evening! Nice Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, a perfect weather with the sun between clouds. I had a really pleasant day with Mon, Daddy, Brothers and my other birds, Juca, Juliana, Lila, Julinha. Anyway, perfect day. Among Mom contributions, I found this one, an album that I did not know the existence that fits perfect to address a demand of many Loronixers for Carmen Miranda. Let's see.
This is Carmen Miranda - A Pequena Notavel (no date), for MIS. Although a true Brazilian popular music legend, I never found a record featuring Carmen Miranda with this kind of detail. There are several compilations available, but they are always assembled with no criterion, additional information and chronological standpoint. This one is different, released under a careful research by MIS and features Carmem Miranda backed by Pixinguinha, Benedito Lacerda, Simon Boutman, Conjunto Odeon, Barbosa Junior, Luperce Miranda and others. The recordings were taken from the years of Carmen Miranda in Brazil before she made her move to the US, with the exception of track 11 - Disseram que Voltei Americanizada. If you are among the group of many friends waiting for Carmen Miranda, the waiting is over. Tracks include:
01 - Cachorro Vira-lata (Alberto Ribeiro) - Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
02 - Camisa Listrada (Assis Valente) - Featuring: Grupo da Odeon (1937)
03 - Eu Dei (Ary Barroso) - Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1937)
04 - Quem É (Custódio Mesquita / Juraci Camargo) - Featuring: Barbosa Júnior e Grupo da Odeon (1937)
05 - Deixa Falar (Nelson Petersen) - Featuring: Ary Barroso (introdução falada) e Orquestra Odeon (1938)
06 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) - Featuring: Orquestra Odeon (Reg. Simon Bountman) (no date)
07 - Me Dá Me Dá (Portello Juno / Cícero Nunes) - Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
08 - Como "Vaes" Você (Ary Barroso) - Featuring Conjunto Regional de Pixinguinha e Luperce Miranda (1936)
09 - E o Mundo Não Se Acabou (Assis Valente) - Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1938)
10 - Na Bahia (Herivelto Martins / Humberto Porto) - Featuring: Trio Dalva de Oliveira e Conjunto Regional (1938)
11 - Disseram Que Voltei Americanizada (Vicente Paiva / Luis Peixoto) - Featuring: Conjunto Odeon (1940)
12 - No Tabuleiro da Baiana (Luis Barbosa) - Featuring: Luperce Miranda e Seu Conjunto (1936)

Toninho Horta - Diamond Land (1989)
Here we have an artist that everybody asks for an album at Loronix. It took a long time until we have the necessary to make available one of his works, but the long waiting really worth, this is one of the best albums recorded by Toninho Horta and it is amazing that Diamond Land never had a CD issue, being out of print on "CD era", at least the far as I could search.
This is Toninho Horta - Diamond Land (1989), for Philips, featuring a true legend of the Brazilian guitar, Toninho Horta, backed by several renowned musicians, including the acclaimed Wayne Shorter. It's very hard to describe Toninho Horta, so I'm taking the liner notes of Diamond Land, written by Pat Metheny. I could never make better. Tracks include:
"Musicians everywhere love Toninho Horta's songs. Through his work with Milton Nascimento, his own recordings and the cover versions of his tunes that have appeared on various albums throughout the past decade or so, Toninho has emerged as one of the most harmonically sophisticated and melodically satisfying Brazilian composers of recent times.
Somehow, he writes chord progressions that defy gravity, moving up when you think they're going down. His melodies stay with you for days; you're sure you've heard them before, but they are brand new. And as an arranger, he's a master. (Not just with his own music either - check out what he does here with "Diamond Land"). As a guitarist, he's one of the world's great "compers" on viola. (That's a nylon-string guitar to us gringos). He plays such great voicings with such a cool time feel... (I've often described him to other musicians as the Herbie Hancock of Bossa Nova guitarists). His love of jazz guitar playing is well represented here, as is his excellent singing.
In short, Toninho Horta is an incredible musician, the rare guitarist who understand harmony in its most intimate ways and - above all - one of the finest and gentlest people I've ever had the good fortune of knowing. This record, DIAMOND LAND, is a great addition to Toninho's ongoing work, and will also serve as an excellent introduction to those listeners not yet familiar with his music."

Leal Brito - Um Piano Dentro da Noite (1953)
I think we will not go wrong making two albums in the 10-inch format in a row, starting with a very old album that I had the chance to take in opposite conditions, a perfect cover, just as it was released in 1953 and a really scratch media that I had to put some effort to make it ready. Let's see this first.
This is Leal Brito - Um Piano Dentro da Noite (1953), for Musidisc. There is something with this cover that makes me feel afraid of it, but it is a nice work made 54 years ago. This cover also brings something really common in the 50's, no credits to main performer, which is only credited at the back cover. Um Piano Dentro da Noite is a piano solo album, performed by Leal Brito, also known as Britinho, a very active musician in the 50's. Tracks include:
01 - Cabelos Brancos (Marino Pinto / Herivelto Martins) Tu (Ary Barroso) Feitiço da Vila (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
02 - Oracion Caribe (Agustin Lara) India (José Asunción Flores / Manuel Ortiz Guerrero) Usted (Gabriel Ruiz / J. A. Zorilla)
03 - Dia de Sol (Leal Brito "Britinho") Casinha da Colina (Tradicional) Nova Ilusão (José Menezes / Luis Bittencourt)
04 - Nem Eu (Dorival Caymmi) Sertaneja (René Bittencourt) Três Apitos (Noel Rosa)
05 - Ai Que Saudades da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago) Alguém Como Tu (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim) Maringá (Joubert de Carvalho)
06 - Seu Eu Morresse Amanhã (Antônio Maria) Foi Ela (Ary Barroso) Menino Grande (Antônio Maria)
07 - Não Troquemos de Mal (Rubens Leal Brito / Jorge Faraj) Chá Para Dois (V. Youmans / Irving Caesar) Auf Wiedersehen (E. Storch)
08 - Na Madrugada (Nilo Sergio) Mulher Rendeira (Tradicional / Adpt. Nilo Sergio) No Rancho Fundo (Ary Barroso / Lamartine Babo)
