Hello, good evening! Yesterday, I spoke about my commitment to make an above the average Samba Saturday at Loronix. I hope my limited Samba knowledge do not spoil the day, but I think we have a fine selection of three very solid listens. If everything runs according with my schedule, we will start smooth with Jair Rodrigues, gradually entering to a more Samba Roots oriented terrain, until the last and awesome release. Let's see.
This is Jair Rodrigues - Orgulho de Um Sambista (1973), for Philips, which is Jair Rodrigues at his peak. I'm only disappointed of not making available complete personnel listing, it seems to be a norm at Philips to do not give credit to musicians in the set, as RCA Victor always did on most to its 70's releases. Jair Rodrigues is self-explanatory, he is a great Samba interpreter and it is all about happiness. Tracks include:
- Sou da Madrugada (Gilson de Souza / Wando)
- Carnaval Não Envelhece (Gilson de Souza)
- Tem Capoeira (Batista da Mangueira)
- Certeza (Beto Scala / São Beto)
- As Quatro Estações do Ano (Bidi)
- Ninguém Sofre Mais Que Eu (B. Barbosa) Tristeza (Edil Pacheco / Carlos Lacerda) Tristeza (Niltinho Tristeza / Haroldo Lobo)
- Boi da Cara Preta (Eneida Amor e Fantasia) (Zuzuca)
- Folia Carnaval e Cinzas (Gilson de Souza / Jair Rodrigues)
- Lendas do Abaeté (Jajá / Preto Rico / Manoel)
- Estrela do Morro (Edil Pacheco / Paulo Diniz)
- O Menino da Porteira (Teddy Vieira / Luisinho)
- Terra Azul (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
- Orgulho de Um Sambista (Gilson de Souza)
Great Artist. Great Year. Great label.
