Among the ups and downs of mom’s visit there is something really good, she is back to contributions and I want to start her small package with the one that we like most, which is the first LP recorded by the Brazilian bandolim virtuoso Deo Rian. Let’s see.
This is Deo Rian – Ernesto Nazareth, Solista: Deo Rian (1970), for RCA Vitor, featuring wonderful renditions of Ernesto Nazareth music played by Deo Rian bandolim with the accompaniment of Quinteto Villa Lobos, Dino 7 Cordas, Canhoto and a not credited strings quartet. This is a magnificent album, not only for the choro fans, but for everyone in the mood of listening Ernesto Nazareth beautiful melodies with really creative arrangements made by a not credited artist.
The back cover brings Deo Rian autography, dedicating this album to Sergio Bittencourt, which is Jacob do Bandolim son. My mother demands that I keep this album available to Deo Rian due this writing at the back cover, which is something that I totally agree. It will be a great pleasure to give this album to Deo Rian as a present from Loronix. Tracks include:

What a great album, Zeca! And in such good condition, too. The sound is excellent. I am a fan both of Nazareth and of bandolim, and it's always good to hear songs written for one instrument (piano) played on another. Also, the backing group is very good, and the album is tastefully arranged. "Odeon" remains one of my favorite songs in any style.
ReplyDeleteObrigado, mae de Zecalouro, pra esse musica!
Super Adam, thanks a lot for your feedback. In the first minute I took it for a spin, I understood it was something really special. It is one of the best choro albums available at Loronix and probably one of the best ones in any style.
ReplyDeleteDeo Rian was Jacob do Bandolim disciple, and later took his place at the legendary Conjunto Epoca de Ouro. This is a very strong debut LP for a musician on such young age. We should also take in consideration the resources made available by RCA Victor, delivering a superior sound in terms of technical quality.
The arranger is not credited and I think he really makes the difference blending Deo Rian bandolim playing with Quinteto Villa Lobos and the other not credited string quartet. Anyway, this is an album where everything runs in harmony and I’m very happy and surprised that my mother could grab it for R$ 1.00 (One Real).
It is important to remember her will to give this album to this boy, although I told her this boy is now a man and a great Brazilian musician.
Kind Regards, zeca
Maravilha, I just can´t wait to hear it!
