Quarteto 004 - Retrato em Branco e Preto (1968)

Hello, good evening! I never lost my hope, but this album was listed on my "impossible to find" folder. Quarteto 004 is one of the most requested albums by Loronix audiophiles. Since the adoption of FLAC format, at least every month I received a request to upgrade. The friends think I have all disks, but it is important to say that I have only determination and a LOT of patience. Many, many thanks to Jorge Mello for this fantastic contribution. This album was in excellent shape and should guarantee a high quality entertainment to everybody. Let's see.

This is Quarteto 004 - Retrato em Branco e Preto (1968), for Codil Ritmos, the first and only LP released by this truly amazing vocal group, strongly influenced by Antonio Carlos Jobim, in charge of arrangements on tracks 01, 02, 03 and 07, being also a performer on others. This update includes the back cover scans with liner notes written by Antonio Carlos Jobim that says he is the fifth element of the group, so strong he participates on this session. Retrato em Branco e preto also features Eumir Deodato, Ugo Marotta, Waltel Branco and Edino Krieger. This is an album that you cannot miss. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! I have been away from Loronix in the past two days, but at the same time, I have never been so close to Loronix, acting behind the scenes and accelerating the work of reactivation of broken links. I have good news. Everything is working until October 15 2006 and from a grand total of 100 weeks, 79 are completed fixed up. I estimate additional 7 or 10 days to fix all weeks, and then Loronix should go back to business as usual. I think it is important to keep everybody informed about our progress. Os Cariocas - Os Cariocas a Ismael Netto (1957)

Hello, good evening! This is Os Cariocas debut LP, released by Columbia in 1957 and one of the first albums made available in the very first beginning of Loronix. It is a very important Brazilian popular music album, released one year after the premature death of Os Cariocas founder and main leader, Ismael Neto, brother of Severino Filho, leader of the group since then. Ismael Neto passing is the reason of this beautiful and moving cover, featuring Hortensia, sister of Ismael Neto and Severino Filho. Os Cariocas a Ismael Neto is another great Jorge Mello contribution, whom I thank for the opportunity to bring back Os Cariocas to the first page with a major update on music and cover scans. Let's see.

Manoel da Conceicao - Manoel da Conceicao, Seu Violao e Muito Samba! (1963)

Finally, the first Manoel da Conceicao album at Loronix and another Jorge Mello contribution. Manoel da Conceicao is also known as Mao de Vaca, another great Brazilian violao player. His music never had the chance of a CD reissue, in spite of being a respected musician, acknowledge by names such like Radames Gnattali. Manoel da Conceicao was not active on recordings, releasing only a few albums. This is his third album and as far I could search, Manuel da Conceicao went on an eleven years recoding hiatus after this one, releasing in 1974 the acclaimed Batucada do Mane. Let's see.

This is Manoel da Conceicao - Manoel da Conceicao, Seu Violao e Muito Samba (1963), for Polydor, with instrumental and voice arrangements by Severino Filho, from Os Cariocas. I said voice arrangements, by definition; this is not an instrumental album since all tracks have lyrics sung by a not credited female choir. I had a really nice time with this album today and I cannot wait longer to check all others. Thanks Jorge Mello for this really unknown Manoel da Conceicao LP. Tracks include:

Announcement | Jorge Mello's Contributions and ESPN Brazil Pontape Inicial Show

I spent much of the last forty-eight hours thinking about on this post and this text, perhaps one of the most planned posts ever at Loronix. Different approaches were developed, but now I think it is better to forget all plans and write everything from scratch, instinctively on a single breath. I'm pleased to introduce to our community Jorge Mello, musician, composer, music researcher, teacher, book writer and a major reference of the works of Anibal Augusto Sardinha, also known as Garoto.

It is very easy to get along with Jorge Mello's writing about Garoto and other Brazilian music subjects at the Internet. Sovaco de Cobra published a series of posts called O Cancioneiro de Garoto, with full Jorge Mello's support. You can also reach Daniella Thompson's Musica Brasiliensis website with several Jorge Mello's contributions, such as this amazing writing about Trio Surdina.

At Loronix, I'm making a video with excerpts of ESPN Brasil Pontape Inicial show dedicated to Bossa Nova with the participation of Jorge Mello. It is a nice video, with ESPN friends talking a little bit about Loronix, thanks to Wilson Libutti for referencing Loronix to ESPN Pontape Inicial friends.

Well, thanks a lot Jorge. I'm sure your great sharing spirit will make a lot of difference to Loronix in the forthcoming days, actually forthcoming months. Maybe years?

Bola Sete - Bola 7 e 4 Trombones (1958)

This post is the start of a series of other absolutely amazing posts, all part of an incredible contribution made by a tireless and respectful friend, with several years of contribution to Brazilian music (I think I spoke a lot!). From now one, we will get along with truly breathtaking music. Everything happened this Sunday and I confess that I'm still paralyzed with the amount of unbelievable albums I knew today.

I was like a child this afternoon, leaving everything aside and listening to records that never imagined could exist. This is the reason of a bit of suspense across this Monday, I did not have time to prepare a properly introduction to the author of this series of contributions. I would like to show at least the tip of the iceberg today with an album that I was hunting for many years, which is better than my most optimistic expectations. Let's see.

This is Bola Sete - Bola 7 e 4 Trombones (1958), for Odeon, the first Bola Sete album from the 50's at Loronix, recorded before he made his move to the United States. Bola Sete delivers guitar playing with four trombones, drums and percussion on a truly amazing session. There are lots of funs inside this album, you can check at Loronix Preview Center what I'm saying, with Bola Sete playing a fantastic rendition of Eu Quero um Samba (Guio de Moraes), I'm confident that 10 seconds of listening should be enough to make your decision. It is really amazing to hear an early work of Bola Sete for the first time. Unfortunately, Odeon did not credit the four trombonists, as all others. Tracks include:

It is amazing how maturity makes us take things from a different perspective. That's the feeling I had when took this album again for a hearing, perhaps after more than a decade interval. My previous opinion was of a dated album, which got stuck in time through a style of interpretation and arrangements that was out of my preferences. However, since the day Jose Matos gave it to our community, I take it for a spin every day. Thank you again Jose Matos. Now it is time to show it to Loronixers. Let's see.

This is Lenita Bruno e Orquestra - Musica: Antonio Carlos Jobim, Poesia: Vinicius de Moraes | Por Toda Minha Vida (1959), for Festa, featuring arrangements by Maestro Leo Peracchi, Lenita Bruno's husband at that time and not credited at the album due contractual obligations with Odeon. It is really nice to hear very different renditions of well-known Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes music with the beautiful Lenita Bruno lyric singing with the reduced, but perfectly adequate arrangements by Maestro Leo Peracchi. Maestro Radames Gnattali plays piano at Canta, Canta Mais, which is the track selected to Loronix Preview Center. I made several attempts to clean the back cover with no success; it brings liner notes by Antonio Carlos Jobim. You will find a version with no image processing inside the music. If someone skilled on Photoshop can make it, I will really appreciate. Tracks include:
