This is Avena de Castro & Joao Peixoto Primo - Avena e Primo | Som Ambiente Vol 2 (1975), featuring for the first time at Loronix the sitar player Avena de Castro and the well-known pianist and organist Primo. Avena's sitar sounds like an electric guitar, different from the sound of sitar made popular by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar in the 1960's, which was my expectation before taking Som Ambiente Vol 2 for a first spin. A few Google searches were enough to tell me that Avena de Castro started as a classical musician and later embraced popular music. He is also considered the first and only sitar player in Brazilian popular music. Tracks include:

Let me be the first to say that this Volume 2 is as enjoyable, listenable, and brlliant as the first.
ReplyDeleteAs always, an * incredible * share and one of the many reasons we love you so much.
Nothing to do with this post... I've been looking many older posts, and I've found one in which you say thre's no other record with Zimbo Trio and Elizeth Cardoso but the "Balançam na Sucata". But what about the three albums recorded live in the João Caetano with Zimbo, Jacob and Época de Ouro? That's just marvelous! I collect LPs, not as much as you do, and I have the three of them. But I don't know how to copy them into my computer and record a CD (I use a Discman when I'm out on the streets), and I'd love to have them in MP3. If you can post them... thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteAvena de Castro's instrument was the zither (cítara), not sitar. He is pictured with a zither on the album cover.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the quality shares and great music.
ReplyDeletesalve! parabéns pelo blog! tem como postar o Alegria Alegria Vol. 4 do Simonal pra rapaziada?
ReplyDeletevaleu, abraço!
Yes, anonymous is right. Castro is playing the zither, like in "The Third Man".
