Hello, Good Carnaval! Yes, it is Carnaval, first day. What a day. Every year is the same and this year seems to be stronger. Some very nice friend, which I hope is not reading this post, has the same idea, every year, to put some kind of sound system, very loud, in front of my apartment, playing all day long the same song. How could people stand this? It is insane. For my disgrace, zeca is already singing together. A couple of minutes ago, when the music had stopped, zeca sung by heart everything. Every year I Google "parrot ear plug" with the hope of a heal. Nothing available.
Today we had two popular parades in Rio de Janeiro, very traditional ones; Banda de Ipanema and Cordao do Bola Preta, downtown. I was invited to go by a Loronixer from The Netherlands that is spending a time here. I could not make it. The last time I made such thing was in Salvador, Bahia. I spent 30 minutes to cross a sidewalk to another, so big and compact was the human being agglomeration. In the other hand, I kissed 5 beautiful girls that I never saw before.
This is Elizeth Cardoso & Banda do Sodre - Elizeth no Bola Preta (1970), for Copacabana. As I said yesterday, Carnaval is not my business and this is to address a Loronix recommendation, shouted yesterday. O Cordao do Bola Preta is one of the most traditional Carnaval parades in Rio, gathering in 2006, 200,000 people. This is a live recording of the parade in 1970 with Elizeth Cardoso performing only three, among several songs. No tracks separation on a really chaotic set. Perhaps this is a release only for those who are in the mood for Carnaval. Tracks are being provided with the music this time.

Luiz Eça - Luiz Eça (1984)
Beto Kessel, The Ambassador, asked today for Luiz Eça - Triangulo Trio (1983), one of the albums recorded by Luiz Eca and the bass player Luiz Alves as a trio. It's already available at Loronix and Beto is probably having a good time with it, do not miss it, here. I have some Luiz Eca videos send by a Loronixer and I think this is a wonderful opportunity to show more of them. Additionally, I found this LP, from the same period of Triangulo Trio that is also a nice pick.
This is Luiz Eça - Luiz Eça (1984), for Carmo. On a very strange coincidence, all the LPs I have available to be the last post of the day have a black cover. I decided for this one taking in consideration the video, as I said. This self titled LP features Luiz Eca (piano, synthesizers), Robertinho Silva (drums) and Luiz Alves (bass). Robertinho Silva is a great drummer and a great character that I had the chance to meet several times, but it was a very long time ago.
The music video features another performance at Jazz Brasil show (1991) with Luiz Eça, Luiz Alves and Lilian Carmona (drums) with Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso). Tracks include:
01 - Semelhança (Luis Eça)
02 - O Homem (Luis Eça)
03 - Mestre Bimba (Luis Eça)
04 - Imagem (Luis Eça)
05 - Reencontro (Luis Eça)
06 - Reflexos (Luis Eça)
07 - Prelúdio (Luis Eça)

Simonetti e Orquestra RGE - Brasil Musical (1960)
Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE - Brasil a Jato (1959) was one of the most successful posts at Loronix. That post was also very important as one of the first orchestra LPs made available here. That LP attracted several new Loronixers and most of them are here with us until today. I found this one on that amazing bargains and I think it is as good as Brazil a Jato. Same idea, a repertoire celebrating Brazil and specifically the city of Brasilia, the brand new Brazilian Capital at that time.
This is Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE - Brasil Musical (1960), for RGE. Actually, this is a further reissue, which I do not have any info on its date. By the way, this one is ripped with my brand new equipment. Gimme some feedback, especially this one. I bought it on a very bad condition and perhaps this is the ultimate zecalouro test on LPs restorations. Tracks include:
01 - Brasilia, Capital da Esperanca
02 - Rio de Janeiro
03 - Maringá
04 - Tico-tico no Fuba
05 - Madureira Chorou
06 - Vassourinha
07 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro
08 - Delicado
09 - Samba de Uma Nota So
10 - Favela
11 - Meditacao
12 - Saudades da Bahia

A Velha Guarda - A Velha Guarda (1955)
Maybe you have already in contact with this record, perhaps everybody knows it, but I think Loronix cannot skip this anthological LP just for referencing some nice facts involving this album. Taking apart the name, release date and format that you already know by reading the title, on a first sight, this cover has something modern for the time it was released, really revolutionary. In terms of music, this LP features one of the most emblematic Brazilian artists, Pixinguinha, on a reunion of the best Samba musicians of that time.
This is A Velha Guarda - A Velha Guarda (1955), for Sinter, the debut 10-inch of this legendary group lead by Pixinguinha and featuring Donga, Joao da Bahiana, Almirante, among others. The cover is a work from the Italian Lanfranco Rossi, known as LAN, Italian, but more "Carioca" than many people that were born in Rio de Janeiro. We had already some covers designed by Lan at Loronix, Lan is active until today and his art can be found everywhere. A Velha Guarda was recorded on a single day in July 11th, 1955. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Que Perigo (Pixinguinha)
02 - Patrão Prenda Seu Gado (João da Bahiana / Pixinguinha / Donga)
03 - Coralina (Adpt. Pixinguinha)
04 - Nosso Ranchinho (Donga / J. Cascata)
05 - Honória (Gualdino Barreto)
06 - Essa Nega Qué Me Dá (José Luis de Moraes "Caninha") with Almirante -- Me Leva Me Leva Seu Rafael (José Luis de Moraes "Caninha") with Almirante

Johnny Alf - Nos (1974)
This is one of several contributions made today by tcisalpino, I think his place is inside an Internet Service Provider with plenty upload bandwidth. Anyway, among tcisalpino picks I found this record, one of those that I was hunting for to address an advice from Mr. G., zecalouro official consultant for Brazilian music from the 70's. Let's check Mr. G. choice and tcisalpino contribution, by the way, all made using 320Kbps.
This is Johnny Alf - Nos (1974), for Odeon, featuring Wagner Tiso, Gilberto Gil, Egberto Gismonti, Paulo Moura, among others. It is amazing that this LP has gone out of print so early since it's last reissue in 2004. This set is pretty different from earlier Johnny Alf Bossa Nova works, sounding as the 70's, with a groovy atmosphere. I'm sure that tomorrow morning Mr. G. will give additional details as a complement. Thank once again for this one tcisalpino. Tracks include:
01 - Saudações (Egberto Gismonti - Paulo César Pinheiro) with Egberto Gismonti (acoustic guitar, arrangements
02 - O que é amar (Johnny Alf) with Egberto Gismonti (arrangements)
03 - Um gosto de fim (Ivan Lins - Ronaldo Monteiro) with Ivan Lins (piano, arrangements)
04 - Acorda Ulysses (Johnny Alf) with Egberto Gismonti (arrangements)
05 - Músico Simples (Gilberto Gil) with Gilberto Gil (acoustic guitar) and Paulo Moura (flute)
06 - Nós (Johnny Alf) with Wagner Tiso (arrangements) and Paulo Moura (sax)
07 - Outros Povos (Milton Nascimento - Márcio Borges) with Wagner Tiso (arrangements)
08 - Plenúlio (Johnny Alf) with Egberto Gismonti (arrangements)
09 - É um cravo e tem espinho (Gonzaga Jr)
10 - Um tema p´ro Simon (Johnny Alf) with Paulo Moura (arrangements)

Paulinho da Viola e Elton Medeiros - Samba na Madrugada (1966)
Several phone calls during the night, above the average. When you blog on such busy days you need to run though hints. That's exactly what Carmem made a couple of minutes ago, crying for this LP, promised to be released this week. Let's make it like a fast fish, it is all about Samba, adequate to Carnaval days there are about to come and is a pretty solid album, made available thought a contribution of a friend, who kindly sent to zecalouro and Loronixers.
This is Paulinho da Viola e Elton Medeiros - Samba na Madrugada (1966), for RGE, featuring one of the coolest and Brazilian Samba interpreter and composer, Paulinho da Viola and one of the most respected Samba artist alive, Elton Medeiros. Os Saxsambistas Brasileiros - Percusao em Festa
Hello, Good Night! I have been learning a lot with Loronix, I hope that everybody has learned something new about Brazilian music here. This is a great pay back to all the effort and dedication we put together at Loronix, from all sides of this website. One of the things that I learn here and became fanatic is to understand each record label profile. They are many and each one has its own modus operandi. I would like someday to see on a chart all these recording companies placed along a timeline, just to understand merges, acquisitions and everything that happened within the industry since the beginning.
I think I'm starting the day nuts. Anyway, this is another record from Plaza. This record company is different. Plaza lists all personnel on the set, in the other hand, does not specifies the release date.
This is Os Saxsambistas Brasileiros - Percussao em Festa (no date), for Plaza, featuring top-notch musicians on the set, which is something that we are already used to see on every Os Saxsambistas Brasileiros LP. Take a time to see the cover full of scratches, missing border pieces, etc. Mr. Five, the mighty owner of Mr. Five Music (http://blogspot.mrfivemusic.com), has gently used his graphic capabilities to make a "clean" version of this cover. Since I'm a disaster on these graphics programs and I cannot count with the help of friends on every cover, I decided to keep it "dirty" as it is. At least it shows us some history from a piece of paper that has been on earthy for more than 40 years. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Tico-tico no Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu)
02 - Samba Fantástico (Zezinho (1) / Jean Manzon / L. Autuori)
03 - Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)

Zimbo Trio - Strings and Brass Plays The Hits (1971)
I cannot say how many times I had to answer a very common question: "When you will run out of records at Loronix"? The answer is an estimate of mine that is always being moved away. Brazilian music from the years we like and we use to see at Loronix seems to be really huge. There is a lot to be explored and the big surprises are the LPs I find and never saw before from the great giants, such as Zimbo Trio.
This is Zimbo Trio - Strings and Brass Plays the Hits (1971), for Philips. Everything went as planned with this post. The cover artwork is one of the best I could make using my resources and the music was created using some upgrades installed today. It will be very nice to receive feedbacks on these files quality, I need to realize some do's and dont's, Loronixers feedback is essential in the process. No comments on this release, except that there are no Brass and Strings as the title suggest, but only piano, bass, drums and Zimbo Trio playing the hits, at Loronix.
01 - Madalena (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
02 - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Paul Simon)
03 - Falei e Disse (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
04 - Agora (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
05 - I'll Be There (Gordy / West / Hutch / Davis)
06 - Apesar de Você (Chico Buarque)
07 - Na Tonga da Mironga do Kabuletê (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 - Primavera (Vai Chuva) (Cassiano / Silvio Rochael)
09 - Close To You (They Long To Be) (Burt Bacharach / David)
10 - Catimbó (Luis Chaves)

12 - Fechado Pra Balanço (Gilberto Gil)

Duke Ellington - Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session (1963)
Another album that is being shown to Loronixers as an outcome of a conversation started at CBox, the shouting box we have on our right side. When I added CBox feature, I could never imagine it would be so essential to Loronix. At CBox there is a structured process, as follows: someone shouts an album recommendation and I use to address when available, but the magic starts when I do not have the title requested, one of many CBox readers gets along with the process and send the request to Loronixers.
In this case it was completely different, the Loronixer who made the contribution asked for a personal delivering, so I had to met him on an agreed spot close to my place and now we have this sought-after LP asked by Beto Kessel, The Ambassador, on a very good quality. Thanks Beto Kessel and thanks to the anonymous Loronixer.
This is Duke Ellington - Duke Ellington's Jazz and Violin Session (1963), for Atlantic, featuring Duke Ellington, Ray Nance and the legendary Stephane Grapelli, among others. Duke Ellington is a self-explanatory Jazz legend and this LP unique, blending Jazz with violins on a relaxed and warm session that you will hear several times. Tracks include:
Track List
01 - Take the "A" Train
02 - In a Sentimental Mood

04 - Day Dream
05 - Cotton Tail
06 - Pretty Little One

Abilio Martins - Voltei (1970)
Hello, Good Night! Let's get back to what I started last week and had to abort due a error on my Carnaval start estimates. By the way, people are asking zecalouro to post music from the Escolas de Samba do Rio de Janeiro, which is the music performed at the famous Carnaval parade. Just want to say that I'm not an expert on Carnaval music from the Escolas de Samba. I think you will stay better with this website, SAMBARIO - O Site dos Sambas Enredo (http://www.sambario.k6.com.br) from Marco Maciel, with a lot of info about the Escolas de Samba and music. I got info for this post at SambaRio.
This is Abilio Martins - Voltei (1970), for Tropicana. If you are in the mood of Samba and want to hear a very beautiful record as Samba used to be in the past, this is tailored for you. Abilio Martins is, how can I explain this, "puxador de Samba", which is the one who sings on Carnaval parade. Each Escola de Samba has a puxador of their choice and although not famous as Jamelao, Roberto Ribeiro and others, Abilio Martins is a legend among Samba fans. Tracks include:
01 - Parei na Sua
02 - Dúvida
03 - Anjinho no Morro
04 - Quanto Pecado
05 - Voltei
06 - Maria Lavadeira
07 - Eu Não Toco Berimbau
08 - Mangueira É Samba
09 - Hei de Vencer
10 - Sublime Pergaminho
11 - Amor Em Silêncio
12 - Samba da Peteca

Burnier & Cartier - Fotos para a Capa do LP (1976)
Mr. D&C is responsible to reveal Burnier e Cartier to Loronixers, he was the first to give advice on them. It has been two months since the first LP from Burnier and Cartier was presented to Loronixers. Since this first post, I'm think I did not have a single week without receiving enthusiastic comments about them or - in most cases - recommendations to post their second album, which is something that I'm making now, for the happiness of several Loronixers.
This is Burnier & Cartier - Fotos para a Capa do LP (1976), for Odeon, featuring Octavio Burnier and Claudio Cartier. It is amazing that both Burnier and Cartier LPs are out of print. Barbara Burnier, daughter of Octavio Burnier is a Loronixer and should be very happy with this post, I said her and I will say again, Barbara, your father has several fans at Loronix. Tracks include:
01 - Minha Mãe Não Sabe de Mim (Tavinho Bonfá / Cláudio Cartier / Ivan Wrigg)
02 - D João (Tavinho Bonfá / Reinaldo Pimenta)
03 - Recreio (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)
04 - Elogio da Loucura (Tavinho Bonfá / Strunk / Ivan Wrigg)
05 - À Beira de Nada (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)

07 - Dia Ferido (Tavinho Bonfá / Cláudio Cartier)
08 - Lendas das Amazonas (Tavinho Bonfá / Ivan Wrigg)

Altamiro Carrilho & Aloysio Figueiredo - O Melhor para Dancar, Flauta e Orgao (1962)
Hello, good night! I think this record should be the best of both worlds (this remembers me something) for those who like Hammond B3 organ and Brazilian chorinho flute. I never see something like this, an album mixing the groovy organ playing with the sweet verses of the flute. Thanks for Mr. K from Japan that made this contribution more than 3 months ago.
This is Altamiro Carrilho & Aloysio Figueiredo - O Melhor para Dancar, Flauta e Orgao (1962), for Copacabana, featuring the flute of Altamiro Carrilho and the organ of Aloysio Figueiredo. This set is unique, even if you are not looking for organ or flute playing it is a real treat to check the way these different instruments were blended by Altamiro Carrilho e Aloysio Figueiredo. Tracks include:
01 - Melodia In F (A. Rubinstein)
02 - Jalouise (J. Gade)
03 - Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves)
04 - Around The World (V. Young / H. Adamson)
05 - O Barquinho (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 - Meu Destino em Suas Mãos (Nello Nunes / Lúcio Cardim)
07 - Palhaçada (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
08 - Never On Sunday (Hadjiakis / Larue)
09 - Per Omnia Saecula Saeculorum Amen (Miguel Gustavo)
10 - Frenesi (Alberto Dominguez)

Luiz Eca - Antologia do Piano (1976)
I sent this LP for a test drive to a friend he like it very much, not any given friend, but a serious fan of Luiz Eca. After this experience, I did not make it at Loronix and just forget to share. In the couple of days, some signals were sent to zecalouro to remind it. Caetano Rodrigues spoke about it, a couple of days ago and yesterday I received a wonderful gift from a friend, which I'm making available just a piece of it as a music video at the end of this post. Videos of Luiz Eca performances are really hard to find and I'm happy to have one to show Loronixers.
This is Luiz Eca - Antologia do Piano (1976), for Philips, an instrumental piano only LP with Luiz Eca renditions to Brazilian standards, directed by Roberto Menescal.
The video is an excerpt of Luiz Eca concert for Jazz Brasil, TV Cultura (1991) as a trio featuring Luiz Eca (piano), Luiz Alves (bass) and Lilian Carmona (drums) performing The Dolphin (Luiz Eca). Tracks include:
01 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
02 - Pra Dizer Adeus (Edu Lobo / Torquato Neto)
03 - Minha (Francis Hime / Ruy Guerra)
04 - Até Quem Sabe (João Donato / Lysias Ênio)
05 - Amargura (Radamés Gnattali / Alberto Ribeiro)
06 - Melancolia (Luis Eça)
07 - Tico-tico no Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu)
08 - Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
09 - Olha Maria (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes / Chico Buarque)
10 - Brejeiro (Ernesto Nazareth)
11 - O Sonho (Egberto Gismonti)

Sergio Ricardo - A Bossa Romantica de Sergio Ricardo (1960)
It is good to spent a time with Loronixers in the real world, you come back full of recommendation of posts that makes your life pretty easy. We were talking about music - what else we could talk about? - when someone picked this one from the shelf. I made a question with my green face about this record and everybody yelled out back very loud: "It is Amazing"! With such determination, let's give it a try.
This is Sergio Ricardo - A Bossa Romantica de Sergio Ricardo (1960), for Odeon. The great curiosity about this record is on the title, sometimes taken as "Nao Gosto Mais de Mim", others say "Musicas e Letras dele Mesmo". I preffer to stay with A Bossa Romantica de Sergio Ricardo, defines better the LP, produced by Aloysio de Oliveira and features 12 tunes composed by Sergio Ricardo. Tracks include:

03 - Máxima Culpa (Sergio Ricardo)
04 - Poema Azul (Sergio Ricardo)
05 - Puladinho (Sergio Ricardo)

Fogueira Tres - Bossa Nova Le Rond-Point (1986)
If you enjoy this record you should thanks g picanco, who should take all the credits for this post. I have most of the LPs released by this late Bossa Jazz trio, however, parrots are smarts but are not such like humans and I did not have the idea of showing Loronixers this wonderful combo for months. g picanco sent the advice, taken immediately.

Som Tres - Som Tres (1969)
Since the first week the Forum was released, zecalouro made a poll to Loronixers with selections of records to be posted. This one was the winner and the green parrot did not make it since poll closing. I think it is now the time to make it happen.
This is Som Tres - Som Tres (1969), for Odeon, featuring Cesar Camargo Mariano (piano and arrangements), Saba (bass) and Toninho (bateria). In spite this cover with the trio with a night outfit in front of this beautiful swimming pool, this is considered by several reviewers as the best album released by Som Tres. I'm sorry for being postponing this release for such a long time. Tracks include:
01 - For Once In My Life (R. Miller / Murden)
02 - Moça (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)
03 - Se Você Pensa (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos)
04 - Blood-mary (César Camargo Mariano)
05 - Califórnia Soul (N. Ashford / V. Simpson)
06 - Homenagem a Mongo (César Camargo Mariano)
07 - Que Pena (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
08 - Tijuana (Laércio de Freitas)
09 - There's Gona Be a "Showdown" (Gamble / Huff)
10 - Caruarú (Belmiro Barrela)

Billy Eckstine - Momento Brasileiro (1979)
I'm arriving for a pleasure time with friends, a lot of music, stories and excellent conversation with several Loronixers. I was really a great time. The mysterious Mr. X - The Legend Strikes Back, complemented this great time sending to zecalouro's mailbox this unique piece that deserves an immediate reveal to Loronixers. Thanks Mr. X.
This is Billy Eckstine - Momento Brasileiro (1979), for Som Livre, recorded in California, US, this record is certainly a tribute of Billy Eckstine to the music of Brazil. Billy Eckstine is an American Jazz singer with a really nice baritone voice that influenced several musicians throughout decades and is also recognized as the first romantic black male singer in popular music.
Momento Brasileiro is arranged by Oscar Castro Neves and produced by Aloysio de Oliveira. Special attention to the interpretation and English lyrics of the song Cidade Maravilhosa (Andre Filho), recorded first in 1938 by Aurora Miranda - Carmem Miranda sister -, this tune has a great identification with the city of Rio de Janeiro and sometimes taken by mistake as Rio's hymn. Personnel listing is with the music this time. Tracks include:
01 - Cidade Maravilhosa (André Filho / Vrs. Regina Werneck)
02 - I Apologize (A. Hofman / A. Goodhart / E. Nelson)
03 - Quiet Nights (Corcovado) (Tom Jobim / Vrs. G. Lees)
04 - Where Or When (R. Rodgers / L. Hart)
05 - Dindi (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira / Vrs. Ray Gilbert)
06 - Dora (Dorival Caymmi / Vrs. Aloysio de Oliveira)
07 - Dreamer (Vivo Sonhando) (Tom Jobim / Vrs. G. Lees)
08 - You And I (Você e Eu) (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes / Vrs. Gimbell)
09 - How Insensitive (Insensatez) (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes / Vrs. Gimbell)
