Jorge Ben & Trio Mocoto - On Stage | In Japan with Trio Mocoto (1972)

What about a 320Kbps audio of a live concert performed by Jorge Ben and Trio Mocoto in Japan, 1972? Pretty interesting. This is what zecalouro received from MOFO, the same who asked and worked together with Marcelo Munhoz on the last Gerson King Combo release.

This concert was performed when Jorge Ben and Trio Mocoto toured in Europe and this is the live recording of the Japanese stage. I'm not sure if this is a official release or a bootleg, no artwork cover is available. This wonderful cover was also a work of MOFO, which is very good and will be opening this release until the original one arrives. Tracks include:

Erlon Chaves - Banda Veneno Internacional Nr. 3 (1973)

For reasons that zecalouro does not know, he woke up this morning with the Brazilian Maestro Erlon Chaves in his head. This is the second Loronix release of Erlon Chaves, the first you can browse the archives and look for a record called Sabadabada, which I recommend.

I have learned a long time ago: when something came to your head from the blue, you should follow and obey. That's what I'm doing right now, making available a LP from Erlon Chaves and his Banda Veneno, a chorus of 40 voices he assembled in 1971.

Special Repost | Wilson Simonal & Som Tres - Mexico 70 (1970)

Remember a few weeks ago when zecalouro presented a fine and rare relase from Wilson Simonal that he could not wait longer waiting for the cover? It is time to make this special repost, as we now have the original cover available.

Pay attention please, this is more than any given original cover, it was sent to zecalouro by Max de Castro. Loronixers who live outside Brazil, just a tip, Max de Castro is Wilson Simonal son. Great Max!

It is wonderful to know that Max de Castro is an active Loronixer. Max is a Brazilian singer, arranger and producer acclaimed by renowned figures such like Nelson Motta, Ed Motta, Jorge Ben Jor and many others. Max started his career in 1992 joining the band Confraria, formed by the brothers Pedro Camargo Mariano and Joao Marcelo Mariano.

Max released his first CD in 1999, Samba Raro, receiving several enthusiastic reviews. Doris Monteiro - Vento Soprando (1961)

There is a lot of work behind this post. My congratulations to Arara Azul, responsible for everything to make this release available by ripping the vinyl of his personal collection, prepare the cover scan and even searching software to remove unwanted clicks and clacks. Thanks Arara Azul.

Arara Azul gives a great and unique contribution to Loronix, the awaited Doris Monteiro - Vento Soprando (1961), a reissue of Confidencias de Doris Monteiro com Musicas de Fernando Cesar (1956) with four additional tracks that were collected from previous Doris Monteiro 78 rpms releases, Nem Sol, Nem Paz, Nem Você, Quando O Amor Chegar, Sempre Teu and Paraíso Perdido. If you have the earlier Confidencias... take this one also, the tracks of Confidencias... are from a new rip with a much better quality.

Arara Azul, which is from now on the official Doris Monteiro Consultant, said that this LP is one of the best Doris releases. Vento Soprando has the participation of Renato de Oliveira e Radames Gnattali Orquestra. Tracks include:

Triangulo - Triangulo (1985)

This is another collector's request, recorded live in Rio de Janeiro, Sala Cecilia Meirelles, three Brazilian Jazzists, Luiz Eca (piano), Robertinho Silva (drums) and Luiz Alves (bass) as Triangulo also known as Triangulo Trio. The year was July 1985, catching a late Luiz Eça at his best.

Triangulo released only this LP, never reissued on CD and according with Loronix Collectors, a really a hard to find recording. Tracks include:

I can file and track down every request and recommendation made by Loronixers, but seems to be imposible so far to associate the requests with requesters, specially one so hard to track down such as this nice LP with the participation of several Brazilian starts recorded for the label MPS/Basf in 1966, Germany.

The whole story is so far unknow, but this studio record has together on the set Chico Batera, Dom Salvador, Edu Lobo, J.T. Meirelles, Jorge Arena, Rosinha de Valenca, Rubens Bassini and Sylvia Telles. Some websites reports a not credited participation of Baden Powell, which is something to be checked. Who has the whole story about this? If any friend has additional info, please write us on comments. Tracks will be given with detailed participation on each track.

Victor Assis Brasil - Ao Vivo (1974)

In 1974, Victor Assis Brazil performed live with a Quintet at Teatro da Galeria in Rio de Janeiro, this LP, Victor Assis Brazil - Ao Vivo (1974), released by Magic Music is the live recording of the session performed in September, 2.

I don't know how hard to find is this LP, anyway it was release on CD and gone out of print. Ao Vivo seems to be of the more "generic" Victor Assis Brasil discography. The quintet is Victor Assis Brasil (sax), Lula (drums), Paulinho Russo (bass), Alberto Farah (piano) and Márcio Montarroyos (trumpet), directed and produced by Durval Ferreira. Victor Assis Brazil recordings are always out of class. Before you ask me, track 01 has nothing to do with me. Tracks include:

Abilio Manoel - Entre Nos (1972)

Remember Mr. G? Remember the LP Grupo Cravo & Canela - Preco de Cada Um (1977)? Yes, Mr. G from New York is the friend who made possible the release of the acclaimed Grupo Cravo & Canela LP.

Same situation with this post, no cover artwork available. Once again Mr. G. pent his time going to an old vinyl store in New York to take pictures of Abilio Manoel - Entre Nos (1972), the second Abilio Manoel solo LP, with the direction of Maestro Lindolfo Gaya and arrangements of Maestro Jose Briamonte.

Mr. G asked zecalouro to tell that this record is the debut of the Odeon golden seal that replaced the old style with a green and white star that lasts for the 5 previous years. With this relevant information, I think that Mr. G. is a serious and renowned collector. Tracks include:

Ceu da Boca - Ceu da Boca (1981)

Once again, Mr. D&C from Germany has made it. Another fantastic tip, the Brazilian vocal group, actually, a vocal orchestra with its eleven members, all great musicians. Ceu da Boca was assembled in 1978, being active until 1984, releasing two solo LP and participations with Nara Leao, Kleiton & Kledir, Cesar Camargo Mariano, among others.

This is the debut LP, Ceu da Boca - Ceu da Boca (1981), released by an independent label (thanks Now!). AMG Bio, Personnel and Tracks are included. Let's give our regards to Mr. D&C, without his tip zecalouro would never remember Ceu da Boca.

AMG Bio

Ceu da Boca was formed in 1978 by the sopranos Verônica Sabino, Rosa Lobo, and Lídia Sacharny, contraltos Maúcha Adnet, Paula Martins, and Márcia Ruiz, tenors Dalmo Medeiros, Chico Adnet, and Ronald Valle, and basses Paulinho Malaguti and Paulo Roberto. The Céu da Boca vocal group had the creation of their own vocal arrangements, along with their humorous performances/outfits, and, obviously, the extreme musicality of its members as some of their most distinctive features. The group accompanied top acts like Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Joyce, César Camargo Mariano, and Wagner Tiso. In 1981 they released the independent Céu da Boca, followed by Baratotal (Polygram) in the next year. They were appointed the Best Vocal Group in 1983 by the Association of Art Critics of São Paulo (APCA), but in the next year, several of its members departed for their solo careers, which caused the dissolution of the group.

This record is really nice. Really. I'm taking this to Loronixers following an advice of a friend and he was pretty sure to recommend to us. Dick Farney - Dick Farney (1964), also known as Dick Farney 64 is that kind of LP that on a first listen will make you feel that you are getting together again with an old friend.

Dick Farney 64 has the participation of Norma Bengell on tracks Voce and Vou por Ai. That's all Folks, this LP speaks by itself. Dick Farney released several records and perhaps it is time to start a series of this great Brazilian pianist and singer. Tracks include:

Noel Rosa is one of the main Brazilian music figures of all times, he is responsible for a revolution, bringing to Brazilian music sophisticated harmonies and lyrics with informal social themes and life in Rio de Janeiro. Lennie Dale & Trio 3D - A 3a Dimensao de Lennie Dale e o Trio 3D (1966)

One of the many things zecalouro has been learning at Loronix is the passion of our friends in Germany for Brazilian music. I have been in in touch with really nice people from Germany and they are really collaborative, making suggestions and help with the best they have.

One of those German friends - let's call him Mr. D&C - have been asking for Lennie Dale & Trio 3D - A 3a Dimensao de Lennie Dale e o Trio 3D (1966), which is one of his favorites. Mr. D&C says wonders about this LP and this is time to check. Lennie Dale has the collaboration of Trio 3D in this set, Trio 3D is Antônio Adolfo (piano), Sergio B. Netto (bass) e Chico Batera (drums). Tracks include:

Boogaloo Combo - Com Muito Ritmo (1972)

Perhaps this is the most obscure and unknown LP by a group available so far at Loronix, Boogaloo Combo - Com Muito Ritmo (1972), perhaps everybody knows this LP and zecalouro is writing rubbish again. Anyway, this is a nice instrumental LP from the 70's by Boogaloo Combo, essential to any serious collector and mandatory for those who track down Brazilian Bossa Soul records.

Don't let the baby at the cover cheat you as he did with me, this is music for grownups. Guess who is behind this post? A feathered bird like me, but not green, blue. The mighty Arara Azul is the guy who should receive all the credits for this post. Thanks a million Arara Azul. Tracks include a version of Hot Pants Road that you should not miss.

Altamiro Carrilho - Altamiro Revive Pattapio e Interpreta Classicos (1957 - 1977)

Nice gemm for the many fans of the Chorinho genre at Loronix, this is a 1977 re-issue by Altamiro Carrilho LP from 1957 where Altamiro plays compositions from the Brazilian flute player Pattapio Silva, Altamiro Carrilho - Altamiro Revive Pattapio e Interpreta Classicos (1957).

ABRAF Pattapio Bio

Pattapio Silva was born in Itacoara, RJ, he was raised in Cataguases, MG, where he used to help his father in the barber shop and taught himself to play an 8-key flute. When he was about 15 he left town to join several bands. He toured with these bands and when he arrived in Rio de Janeiro he was already a famous composer of marches and polcas.

In Rio he attended the National Institute of Music as a pupil of Duque Estrada Meier, concluding the six-year program in only two years, practicing over ten hours a day.

Pattapio was one of the first Brazilian recording artists, working for the Odeon and "Casa Edson". Many of his own compositions were edited and recorded by him, among them: Evocação, Margarida, Primeiro Amor, Oriental, Sonho, Idílio, Zinha, Amor Perdido.

In 1907 he went on a solo tour in the States of Minas, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina. It was in the city of Florianópolis (SC) that he contracted a serious illness and died just a few days later, aged 27.

Welcome back Miltinho, it was very wise of yours to be at Loronix on three posts with Elza Soares and Doris Monteiro, pretty easy with the Divas. Now it is time to see how Miltinho performs alone on his first solo LP at Loronix.

Miltinho had a huge success in the '50s, making hits on more than 100 recorded albums with songs like "Recado" and "Devaneio," "Murmúrio" (Djalma Ferreira/Luís Antônio), "Eu e o Rio," "Mulher de Trinta," "Ri" (Luís Antônio), "Zé Marmita" (Luís Antônio/Brasinha), "Só Vou de Mulher," "Meu Nome é Ninguém" (Haroldo Barbosa/Luís Reis), "Poema do Olhar" (Jair Amorim/Evaldo Gouveia), "Mulata Assanhada" (Ataulfo Alves), among others. He began as an amateur singer in the '40s in the Cancioneiros do Luar vocal group. His professional debut as a singer was in the Rádio Tupi. In 1946, he joined the Namorados da Lua. The following year, the group accompanied the singer Isaura Garcia on the hit "De Conversa em Conversa" (Lúcio Alves/Haroldo Barbosa), which was re-recorded two decades later by João Gilberto. In 1948, he joined the Anjos do Inferno, which toured the U.S. backing Carmen Miranda. He worked for two years in Mexico performing on radio shows and in nightclubs. In 1952, he became a member of the Quatro Ases e Um Curinga, of the Orquestra Tabajara, and of the Milionários do Ritmo. His first solo LP came in 1960, Um Novo Astro (Sideral). After 1966, his duet albums for Odeon with Elza Soares (four) and Dóris Monteiro (four) were also top-sellers. In 1997, he recorded another duet album (Miltinho Sempre Sucessos, Globo/Columbia), performing with João Nogueira, Luís Melodia, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Elza Soares, and other artists. Commemorating his 54-year career, he recorded Miltinho Convida, which includes duets with Chico Buarque, Fafá de Belém, Nana Caymmi, Doris Monteiro, Elza Soares, Martinho da Vila, MPB-4, João Bosco, Emílio Santiago, João Nogueira, and Tito Madi.

Luis Vagner - Luis Vagner (1976)

We have here another Brazilian singer and composer from the 70's that makes the joy of DJs and Soul fans all around. This is Luis Vagner - Luis Vagner (1976), his third solo LP, released several years after his first movement in the early 60's as member of important Brazilian bands, such as: The Jetsons, further, Os Brasas.

Luis Vagner is also influenced by the Reagge genre, which was much more present on his music after this release. The Conjunto Pau Brasil accompanies Luis Vagner here, which is a band lead by the legendary Bedeu, an artist that you will probably meet in a couple of days at Loronix. Paid tribute by Jorge Ben Jor with the song "Luiz Vagner Guitarreiro", Luís Vagner has been a fighter for the cause of Brazilian soul music and reggae since the 60's, having songs recorded by the classic black-psychedelia duo Tony Bizarro & Frankye Adriano (in Tony & Frankye, 1971, "Depois da Chuva no Posto Quatro", by Luís Vagner/Tom Gomes), Paulo Diniz ("Como?"), Bebeto ("Segura a Nega"), Lady Zu, Tony Tornado, Wando ("Se Quiser Chorar por Mim"), Ronnie Von ("Sílvia", "Vinte Horas", "Domingo"), Adriana ("Justo Nesta Noite"), Eliana Pittman ("Vou Pular Neste Carnaval"), Luís Américo ("Camisa 10"), Sílvio Brito ("Espelho Mágico") and others.Luís Vagner appeared in 1963 in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul) as a member of The Jetsons. Participating in the TV programme Juventude em Brasa (TV Piratini) and recording a single with "Lutamos pra Viver" (1967), in 1966 they moved to São Paulo, changing the band's name for Os Brasas, becoming musicians of the Banda Jovem do Maestro Peruzzi, which accompanied Eduardo Araújo in his successful TV performances. In that period Vagner had his "Magoei Seu Coração" recorded by Demétrius. Os Brasas also backed Deny & Dino and recorded a LP and several singles. After the end of the group in 1969, Vagner recorded a single with "Viagem Para o Sul" and "Moro no Fim da Rua" (having the latter being recorded by Wilson Simonal and Trio Esperança). His first LP came in 1974, Luiz Vagner Lopes. His "Guria" was included in the broadly popular soap opera Dancin' Days in 1978 and released also in the album Fusão das Raças (1979).
