Fuzi 9 - Fuzi 9 (1970)

This is a truly amazing and really unique Brazilian album, highly recommended by the mighty Ed. Motta, which I want to thanks for always pointing solid listens to our community. Fuzi 9 was already available on a given month of 2006, but technically speaking, that old one is really out of the new Loronix standards with a cover artwork of a size of a thumbnail, a missing track and a very low quality ripping.

This is Fuzi 9 - Fuzi 9 (1970), for Todamerica, the first and only record by this awesome group of nine boys and a female singer. Don't let these tuxedos on cover artwork cheats you these guys delivers an awesome Samba Soul music, all nine members are soldiers from Brazilian Army. Complete personnel listing is unknown but among the boys we have Carlos Dafe, a well-known singer in the 70's and perhaps the only that followed on a career as an artist. Highly recommended. Tracks include:

01 - Já Era Tempo de Você (José Carlos / Rosana)
02 - Poeira (Zuzuca / B. Reis)
03 - Trilha (José Carlos / Vanden de Souza)
04 - De Conversa Em Conversa (Lúcio Alves / Haroldo Barbosa)
05 - Pra Onde Tu Vai Baião (João do Vale / Sebastião Rodrigues)
06 - Tributo a Muezim (Manuel Hugo de Silva)
07 - Haiakaiam (Lilian Martins)
08 - Bahia de Todos os Deuses (Bala / Manoel)
09 - Sônia (José Carlos)
10 - Fim (José Carlos)
11 - Fuzão 79 (José Carlos)
12 - Isto É Samba (J. Canseira / Paulo Silva)

Marisa - Marisa (1972) 7-inch EP

It is cool to show singles and EPs to Loronixers. The format brings always the best picks of the artists and it is a good alternative for those who don't want to face the long duration LP. In the other hand, there is no much to say about them, as short records, they are not conceptual. Anyway, let's see the first out of series of singles and EPs scheduled for this week. I hope you like it; the feedback on Tamba was great.

This is Marisa - Marisa (1972), for Odeon as 7BD-1269 with four tracks. I could not check if all tracks were previously released or not on another format. Tracks include:

01 - Viagem (João de Aquino / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 - Depois De Tanto Amor (Paulinho da Viola)
03 - Estiada (Ivor Lancellotti / Marco Antônio Pinheiro)
04 - Samba do Estácio (Jair Amorim / César Costa Filho)

Tito Madi - A Fossa Vol. 3 (1973)

I was not scheduling another album from Tito Madi series of four "A Fossa" albums, but it is so cold in Brazil and Tito Madi fits nicely on cold days such like we are having here. This is perhaps one of the less known album from the series and in my point of view the best of the four ones. I'm sure we have a great close for this cold Friday.

This is Tito Madi - A Fossa Vol. 3 (1973), for London. Just a nerd curiosity, Volume numbers match the release year, making things easy, such as Volume 1 was released in 1971, Volume 2 in 1972, this one and the final Volume 4 in 1974. This cover is beautiful, although is not the one that I like most in the series, in the other hand, the back cover is fantastic. Let's think about a contest of A Fossa cover artwork when we make the last. Let's be straightforward, Tito Madi is here and it is cold outside, time to go to bed. Have a nice weekend and don't miss tomorrow's posts, Loronix amazing Samba day. Tracks include:

01 - Canto Triste (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Duas Contas (Garoto)
03 - Atrás da Porta (Francis Hime / Chico Buarque)
04 - Quero-te Assim (Tito Madi)
05 - Encontro Com a Saudade (Billy Blanco / Nilo Queiroz)
06 - Se Eu Tiver (Ribamar (1) / Dolores Duran)
07 - Graças a Deus Você Voltou (Tito Madi)
08 - Fossa Vol 3 (Tito Madi)
09 - Manias (Flávio Cavalcanti / Celso Cavalcanti)
10 - Demais (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
11 - Canção dos Olhos Tristes (Tito Madi)
12 - Modinha (Sergio Bittencourt)
13 - Siga (Fernando Lobo / Hélio Guimarães)

Irany Pinto e Seu Conjunto - Meus Amores (1958)

I was reluctant to show this album, I found it on a really bad condition, the cover was damaged and I had to praise the help of a friend to make it look better and the vinyl was scratch on a way that I had to decide keeping some hiss at the beginning of tracks in the benefit of loosing the sound quality. However, I think I'm making the right decision on sharing as it is. Irany Pinto is a brand new artist for me and probably for many friends and this cover artwork is one of those that worth the album alone.

This is Irany Pinto e Seu Conjunto - Meus Amores (1958), for Copacabana. Irany Pinto is a Brazilian violinist that had a great importance from the late 40's until the early 70's. He was member of the legendary Turma do Sereno, a group created by Paulo Tapajos with best of breed Brazilian musicians. Irany Pinto recorded more than 40 albums including 78rpms and LPs. Meus Amores is one of those themed albums made by Copacabana, Irany Pinto performs songs with names of girls and the cover artworks is strongly associated with the idea, showing a guy thinking on several others girls while talking with another. Really cool. tracks include:

01 - Rosalie (Cole Porter)
02 - Louise (L. Robin / R. A. Whiting)
03 - Laura (João de Barro / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)
04 - Maria La Ô (Ernesto Lecuona)
05 - Marie (Irving Berlin)
06 - Conceição (Jair Amorim / Dunga)
07 - Patrícia (Perez Prado)
08 - Maria Boa (Assis Valente) Odete (Herivelto Martins / Dunga)
09 - Vilma (M. Ruccione)
10 - Maria Bonita (Agustin Lara) Hi-lili Hi-lo (Kaper / Deutsch)
11 - Dora (Dorival Caymmi) Marina (Dorival Caymmi)
12 - Rose Marie (R. Friml / O. Harbach / H. Stothart / O. Hammerstein II) Ninon (R. Stolz)
13 - Katuchka (Lina Pesce)

Music Video | Marcos Valle & Sonia Delfino - Samba de Verao

Hello, Good Evening! Hardware problems... Let's forget bad things and talk about good ones. Tomorrow, Kiko Continentino receives Marcos Valle at Festival da Bossa, Drink, Lagoa Rio de Janeiro. I will be there and I hope to find Loronixers there also. Just to stay in the mood for tomorrow, Luiz Harding sent us a video with Marcos Valle and Sonia Delfino performing Samba de Verao. I will be right back.

Hope uEnjoy!

Os Ipanemas - Os Ipanemas (1964)

I have been managing some hardware changes at Loronix and Murphy's Law seems to be around. Perhaps my fault. If something is working fine, don't change it. Anyway, it was a necessary change, nothing that you will see the impact; it was a simple change according with my financial possibilities.

This is one of several reasons to start the day reposting another true classic from the old times. People say that I'm a lucky guy and I'm starting to agree. I got this album for an unbelievable price, so cheap that I feel embarrassed to say here, which is something that makes me happy and I hope Loronixers also feel happy. Improvements are countless, from cover art scans, music and the availability of the new FLAC alternative, let's see.

This is Os Ipanemas - Os Ipanemas (1964), for Columbia, a unique and killer set of Bossa Jazz with Afro Influences, featuring the traditional bass and drums with the addition of Astor Silva trombone, Neco's guitar and Ruben Bassini percussion. Astor Silva is probably the leader of Os Ipanemas, which is a constellation of Brazilian musicians that recorded this first and only album for Columbia. Os Ipanemas were assembled 40 years later for another recordings and different formation, but never could reach what was done in this first 1964 release. Tracks include:

Personnel

Astor Silva
(trombone)
Marinho
(bass)
Wilson das Neves
(drums)
Rubens Bassini
(percussion)
Neco
(guitar)

Andre Penazzi - Orgao, Samba e Percussao Vol. 4 (1968)

Andre Penazzi is a Brazilian organist introduced to us by Refer last year. Little I know about him, in spite of Andre Penazzi albums are always on top of every LP hunting list of collectors and DJs outside of Brazil. Sometimes Andre Penazi is taken in the same plateau of Walter Wanderley and Ed Lincoln, which is something that I think we should take as a passionate fan statement. Anyway, Andre Penazzi is here and I would like to ask feedback of Loronixers at comments section.

This is Andre Penazzi - Orgao, Samba e Percussao Vol. 4 (1968), for Som Maior. Andre Penazzi had a very active career, recording his first album in 1959 and ending at 1971 with more than 10 albums recorded by several Brazilian labels. Personnel is not credited and apparently, Andre Penazzi is only backed by drums and percussion. Perhaps Refer comes later to bring more clarification on this lost Brazilian organ player.

Tracks include:

01 - Lapinha (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 - Tive Sim (Cartola)
03 - Januária (Chico Buarque)
04 - Luandaluar (Sergio Ricardo)

Music Video | Erroll Garner - Samba de Uma Nota So (1962)

Luiz Harding sent us a video this week that is really worth showing Loronixers. Erroll Garner and crew recorded it in 1962. I don't have info about the nature of this performance, perhaps a rehearsal or a TV show, but they are really confused playing Samba de Uma Nota So (One Note Samba). This video helps understanding how difficult it was for international musicians to play Bossa Nova. Thanks Luiz Harding, nice pick.

Hope uEnjoy!

Sylvia Telles - Amor de Gente Moca | Musicas de Antonio Carlos Jobim (1959)

I felt the same pleasure when reposting the last Elizeth Cardoso - Noturno (1957), as I had when it was made available for the first time a year ago. I'm also feeling very good on making this one. Amor de Gente Moca is another fantastic record released more than a year ago that was sleeping on a given day of June 2006. It is time to bring this amazingly out of print album to the spotlight, calling attention to Loronix new and old friends. Cover artworks are improved and the music was ripped with zecalouro supervision. FLAC files are also available. Loronixers acclaimed Sylvia Telles in the past and now it is time to celebrate her music again.

This is Sylvia Telles - Amor de Gente Moca | Musicas de Antonio Carlos Jobim (1959), for Odeon. I'm proud to own the Odeon original issue in a very good condition, the reason for this reposting. Sylvia Telles performs with orchestra the Antonio Carlos Jobim repertoire. I do not have knowledge to describe Sylvia Telles singing from a technical perspective, but she has that "thing" that belongs to less than a few gifted singers I have ever heard before. Amor de Gente Moca is directed by Aloysio de Oliveira, arranged by Maestro Gaya and has Orchestra conducted by Maestro Oswaldo Borba. Tracks include:

01 - Dindi (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
02 - De Você Eu Gosto (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
03 - Discussão (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
04 - Sem Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 - Fotografia (Tom Jobim)
06 - Janelas Abertas (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 - Demais (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
08 - O Que Tinha de Ser (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 - A Felicidade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 - Canta Canta Mais (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
11 - Só Em Teus Braços (Tom Jobim)
12 - Esquecendo Você (Tom Jobim)

Wagner Tiso - Wagner Tiso (1978)

This is to address a suggestion made by Good Groove on the last Paulo Moura Quarteto album. I'm glad, Loronix has more than a year and we still find new artists to show friends. Thanks Mr. Groove. Wagner Tiso is an internationally renowned musician and solid Brazilian music collaborator for decades.

This is Wagner Tiso - Wagner Tiso (1978), for Odeon, which is Wagner Tiso debut LP, a late first album by an artist that started his career on recordings in 1958 as member of Conjunto W's Boys, featuring Wagner Tiso, Waltinho, Wilson, Wanderley and Milton Nascimento, credited as Wilton Nascimento, probably to be compatible with all W members. Since then, Wagner Tiso performed as sideman at several groups, such as: Berimbau Trio, Conjunto Sambacana, Conjunto de Edison Machado, Paulo Moura, among many others. This is a really nice album and I suggest that you visit Discos do Brasil for the complete personnel listing, here. Thanks once again Good Groove. Tracks include:
