Jacob do Bandolim - 10 Anos de Saudade (1979)

Hello, good evening! Jacob do Bandolim discography can be divided in two different categories, as follows: career albums, including twelve LPs, several 78rpm and participations on other artists records. The twelve LPs are really hard to find, especially the first releases in the 10-inch format. The second are the tribute albums and compilations, there are many and they are not so difficult to find.

I have been gathering every Jacob do Bandolim record that appears in front of me and I'm learning a lot with the compilations, they bring very well written liner notes with very useful information about Jacob do Bandolim, including pictures, such like the ones available on this front cover, featuring Jacob do Bandolim when he was a kid with her mother and grandfather. Let's see.

This is Jacob do Bandolim - 10 Anos de Saudade (1979), for RCA Candem, remastered tracks taken from previous Jacob do Bandolim albums, including 78rpm from the 50's and some other tracks taken from LPs released in the early 60's. Jacob do Bandolim was born in 1918, and died in 1969 with the early age of 51. The back cover describes in details Jacob do Bandolim passing, a really sad day to Brazilian music. Loronix Preview Center features the fantastic Atlantico by Ernesto Nazareth, recorded in 1951. Tracks include:

Miltinho - Poema do Adeus (1962)

There was a time at Loronix where every month we had a new album recorded by one of the Samba interpreters that I like most, Milton Santos de Almeida or just Miltinho. I could not believe when Loronix Find It returned the last Miltinho album as of August 2007, it is almost a year and Miltinho needs to be back to Loronix first page immediately. Let's see.

This is Miltinho - Poema do Adeus (1962), for RGE, featuring Orquestra RGE with not credited maestro and musicians. Poema do Adeus is a very early Miltinho record, but is not an album recorded by a beginner. Since the 40's, Miltinho was an active artist, being member of renowned vocal groups, such like: Cancioneiros do Luar, Namorados da Lua, Anjos do Inferno and Quatro Ases e um Coringa. I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to replay a fantastic music video featuring Miltinho and Ed Motta, performing Meu Nome e Ninguem in the year of 2003. I forgot to say that Rildo Hora is the harmonica player. Tracks include:

01 - Poema do Adeus (Luis Antônio)
02 - Palhaçada (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
03 - Estou Só (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)

11 - Perdoa Coração (Marino Pinto / Aloísio de Barros)

Quinteto Violado - A Feira (1974)

It was really kind of JOAO-SP sending the third Quinteto Violado career LP to our community. I did not have any previous contact with Quinteto Violado music before Loronix and among their three albums available; this is the one that I like most. Quinteto Violado has a vast discography, counting more than 80 albums, including compilations, singles and participations. JOAO-SP contributions are not over and from now one will be more focused on the Choro style, favorite of several friends. Let's see.

This is Quinteto Violado - A Feira (1974), for Philips, featuring this fantastic cover with a picture of a Feira in the border of a river in Northeast, which I don't have idea about the river name and where this photo was taken, our friends from the Northeast will provide the answers to us. The repertoire features songs by Luiz Gonzaga, Humberto Teixeira, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Geraldo Vandre, Fernando Lona and others, performed with nice instrumental and vocal arrangements. Tracks include:

01 - Assum Preto (Humberto Teixeira / Luis Gonzaga)
02 - Pau-de-arara (Luis Gonzaga / Guio de Morais)
03 - Procissão (Gilberto Gil)

Araken Peixoto

Araken Peixoto, 77, died in the afternoon of Tuesday (19), in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Araken Peixoto was an acclaimed pistonist, brother of pianist Moacyr Peixoto and Cauby Peixoto. Loronix tribute brings one out of several albums released by Araken Peixoto at Eldorado Label in the 80's, which is Araken Peixoto - Um Piston Dentro da Noite (1986), with the participation of Moacyr Peixoto.

Cyro Monteiro e Dilermando Pinheiro - Show Teleco Teco Opus Nr. 1 (1966)

I was saving this album for an eventual Samba Saturday at Loronix, but many friends have requested this important record since Loronix very first beginning. Some reviewers says Teleco Teco Opus Nr. 1 has an historical importance in the definition of future Samba live recordings released in the remaining 60's and 70's, being equivalent of the well-known Show Opiniao, recorded by Nara Leao and Ze Ketti in the same year, same theater and using the same format. Let’s see.

This is Cyro Monteiro e Dilermando Pinheiro - Show Teleco Teco Opus Nr. 1 (1966), for Philips, presented at Loronix by an excellent vinyl transfer taken from Philips first 1966 issue. Personnel is not credited, however, my searches were very successful on the identification of Regional do Canhoto backing the duo, including Jacob do Bandolim and Dino Sete Cordas, which is the musician playing the seven string acoustic guitar, partially shown at the front cover above. The repertoire features 33 tunes with no tracks separation. Tracks include:

Luiz Carlos Vinhas - Luiz Carlos Vinhas e Os Kalangos (1971)

Here we go on the first and last record released by Luiz Carlos Vinhas e Os Kalangos, which is a group assembled by Laercio de Freitas in 1970 when he came back to Brazil after a couple of years in Mexico replacing Luiz Eca at Tamba 4. Luiz Carlos Vinhas e Os Kalangos had also not identified bassist and drummer from Luiz Carlos Vinhas Trio, regularly performing at Flag nightclub in the early 70’s. Let's see.

This is Luiz Carlos Vinhas e Os Kalangos (1971), for Top Tape, featuring on Side A the original version of Capim Gordura, composed by Laercio de Freitas in Mexico, while Side B brings an not usual rendition of Chovendo na Roseira (Antonio Carlos Jobim). Helcio Milito had the idea of recording this little piece of madness at Top Tape. Capim Gordura was big hit, playing on radio and also television, including four performances at Buzina do Chacrinha, which is something I would like very much to watch on video. Tracks include:

01 - Capim Gordura (Laercio de Freitas)
02 - Chovendo na Roseira (Antonio Carlos Jobim)

Codo - Codo e o Violao | Serie Talento Brasileiro 3 (1977)

Hello, good evening! I want start the day with a great find, courtesy zecalouro's mother, gradually improving her contributions and now deserves the title of a good vinyl hunter. She comes this time showing an important musician never released before at Loronix, Clodoaldo Brito, widely known as Codo, a Brazilian guitarist and composer from the state of Bahia. Codo had a active career as musician, recording eight albums as main performer, two singles and more than 90 compositions. Let's see.

Codo delivers a unique playing style, accompanied by not credited musicians. My highlight goes to 07 - Brincando com as Cordas (Codo), which is the selected Loronix Preview Center track. Caetano Veloso - Qualquer Coisa (1975)

I thought I could show and review this album without saying I'm a big fan of Caetano Veloso. So I decided to be open and honest with you, I'm a big fan of Caetano Veloso and this album is definitively one of his best releases in the 70's. I could realize how great it is after spinning today after many years. Qualquer Coisa was recorded in the same session of Joia (Caetano Veloso masterpiece) and were released simultaneously, so we should take this one as the continuation of Joia. Let's see.

This is Caetano Veloso - Qualquer Coisa (1975), for Philips, featuring the piano of Joao Donato and Quarteto em Cy as special guest on track 07 - Jorge de Capadocia. I had the chance to listen to this album as soon it was released with the age of ten, being very important for me, Caetano Veloso renditions of three The Beatles tunes available on Side B, were my first contact with The Beatles music. I read several reviews saying these three cuts spoils this album, but I like them very much as I like the whole experience provided by Caetano Veloso with Qualquer Coisa, which is an album that you will spin several times. Tracks include:
