Jair Rodrigues - Estou lhe Devendo um Sorriso (1980)

Hello, good evening! Rumors of my demise in the last two days are absolutely true. It was for a good reason, I decided to create a personal marathon to end this Saturday with all 2008 and 2007 links fixed. Unfortunately, I failed. The first two weeks of January 2007 are still pending, but I have to admit we are above my most optimistic initial estimates of the reactivation. If I have extra energy, I will make a detailed status report with the reconstruction work facts.

Today is Saturday and Saturday is the day of Samba at Loronix and Samba is Jair Rodrigues. Let's see.

This is Jair Rodrigues - Estou lhe Devendo um Sorriso (1980), for Philips, featuring this wonderful cover that perfectly reproduces all elements found in an authentic Roda de Samba in the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, with bottles of beer, rope hanging clothes, the table, the towel style, the snacks and one exception, the green coconuts. I never saw a Roda de Samba with people drinking coconut water. Actually, I never have been in a Roda de Samba. Jair Rodrigues shows a wilder side, with lots of Samba root tracks with the arrangements by Wilson Mauro, Luiz Roberto (Os Cariocas) and Maestro Aécio Flavio. Unfortunately, Philips did not credit musicians. Tracks include:

01 - Estou Lhe Devendo Um Sorriso (Serafim Adriano)
02 - Conversa Fora (Ari do Cavaco / Otacílio)
03 - Cantarola (Wando / Nilo Amaro / Leônidas Paulo)
04 - Mestre Sala do Amor (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)
05 - Mais Feliz Quem Sabe Perdoar (Noca da Portela / Daniel Santos)
06 - Ponto Central (Walmir Lima / Jandyr Aragão)

08 - Moro no Morro (Zuzuca)
09 - Madrigais (Meu Sexto Sentido) (Talismã / Raimundo Prates)
10 - Salve a Bahia (João Nogueira / Edil Pacheco)
11 - Lenda do Rei dos Vaqueiros e do Boi Mandingueiro (Chico Xavier)
12 - Mané Fogueteiro (João de Barro)

Jacob do Bandolim e Seu Conjunto Epoca de Ouro - Vibracoes (1967)

I'm not exaggerating and I'm very calm and confident to say that Vibracoes is among the top ten albums available at the entire collection of Loronix, which has registered more than 1700 albums until now. This masterpiece was first made available at June 2007, through a CD transfer made by a friend of a given late 90's reissue. It is time to do it again, now with the audio transferred from the original 1967 RCA first issue, including hi-res scans from the front and back cover, full of information written by Jacob do Bandolim. Let's see.

This is Jacob do Bandolim e Seu Conjunto Epoca de Ouro - Vibracoes (1967), for RCA Candem. Listen, even if you do not appreciate choro, bandolim or instrumental music. Jacob do Bandolim and Epoca de Ouro deliver definitive interpretations and not yet overcame of standards, including also Jacob do Bandolim compositions and his magnificent Vibracoes, with overwhelming Jacob do Bandolim playing that no one is able to remain indifferent, even those who do not have a particular relationship we have with Brazilian music. I would rely on the willingness of all to exchange comments on this anthological album. Tracks include:

Varios Artistas - Introducao (1965)

Hello, good evening! There is a curiosity behind this post and this album, I will tell you. This is a contribution made in December 2006 by our great friend Caetano Rodrigues and at that time, I could not understand what was behind this album, except the concept of presenting new artists, which is quite clear through the title, Introducao. However, I did not understand the reason of the phrase "Teenager Series" in the lower right.

We received this week the visit of Juliana Mingotti, who said to be looking for this album for a couple of years. Juliana is the daughter of Wagner Mingotti, author of the first track and pianist of Wan Trio, participating also at the second track as bassist. Wan Trio is the best this album has to offer, recorded by Wagner Mingotti when he was sixteen and probably, all others are below eighteen.

In a quick search, I could realize that Silvinha was the participant that could develop a solid career and according with Juliana, Wagner Mingotti decided to terminate his artistic career after recording this album, which is again available for everyone to know the work of Wagner and all artists at this session. I am keeping the original text, with some modifications. Let's see.

This is Introducao (1965), for Mocambo, a unique opportunity to listen for the fist time several artists that we never heard before, such as: Wan Trio - Bossa Jazz, Patricia - Singer, Impulso 4 - Bossa Jazz (this one everybody knows), Tony Carbonell - Instrumental, Quinteto Berimbossa - Bossa Jazz, Joao Paulo - Singer, Silvinha - Singer, Octons - Instrumental and Ezequiel - Singer. Most of these artists were probably not successful on their careers and this is what makes this LP a very interesting piece. Tracks include:

01 - Selvagem (Wagner Mingotti) - Wan Trio
02 - Onde Está Você (Oscar Castro Neves) - Patrícia
03 - Morte de Um Deus de Sal (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli) - Impulso 4
04 - Desarmonia (Tony Carbonell) - Tony Carbonell
05 - Blues Walk (C. Brown) - Quinteto Berimbossa
06 - História de Duas Crianças (Tony Carbonell / Hernesto Domingues) - João Paulo
07 - Maria Moita (Carlos Lyra) - Silvinha
08 - Tokio's Blue (H. Silver) - Octons
09 - Paz e Amor (Ezequiel Silva / João Magalhães) - Ezequiel
10 - A Felicidade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) - Quinteto Berimbossa

Conjunto Bossa Nova - Bossa e Bossa (1959)

When I spoke about the benefits of fixing all Loronix links a couple of weeks ago, some friends said that I was crazy, needing psychiatric help. This is a great opportunity to explore the old and forgotten past of Loronix, seeking out amazing music from the past, boldly going where no other parrot has gone before. Sorry about reference. Anyway, I found this album today, which is a truly amazing Caetano Rodrigues contribution. It is time to bring it back to the first page. Let's see.

This is Conjunto Bossa Nova - Bossa é Bossa (1959), for Odeon, in the 7-inch format, the first Roberto Menescal record featuring from the left to right in the picture, Luiz Paulo Nogueira. Radames Gnattali - Ernesto Nazareth (1954)

Hello, good evening! Yesterday, we had a collaboration of cvllos that was supposed to be a never heard album by the legendary Casé, but it was only a reissue of a previous Caetano Rodrigues collaboration. You can check the story below at Brazilian Jazz Quartet - Jazz & Coffee (1958). Today, the tireless cvllos quickly recover all his prestige to our community, sending an anthological album, which is the first LP recorded by Maestro Radames Gnattali in 1954, entirely dedicated to the work of another important Brazilian musician, Ernesto Nazareth. Let's see.

This is Radames Gnattali - Ernesto Nazareth (1954), for Continental, featuring Radames Gnattali piano and orchestra arranged by Radames Gnattali. I'm the past of Brazilian instrumental music to the forthcoming Enciclopédia Instrumental Brasileira website and the contribution of Radames Gnattali becomes very clear every day that passes. In Ernesto Nazareth tribute, the young maestro delivers piano playing and makes arrangements for the entire session. This album should be taken by its historical importance, I decided to keep the transfer as close as possible to the original album and some noise occurs. Thanks cvllos for this important contribution to Loronix. Tracks include:

01 - Expansiva (Ernesto Nazareth) Valsa
02 - Tenebroso (Ernesto Nazareth) Tango
03 - Ameno Resedá (Ernesto Nazareth) Polca-choro
04 - Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth) Tango
05 - Fon-fon (Ernesto Nazareth) Tango
06 - Apanhei-te Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazareth) Polca-choro
07 - Confidências (Ernesto Nazareth) Valsa
08 - Batuque (Ernesto Nazareth) Tango

Paulinho da Viola - A Danca da Solidao (1972)

Paulinho da Viola is one of the artists that I learned to admire before I created Loronix. I cannot imagine how it would be my current relationship with Samba without Paulinho da Viola. He makes the perfect connection between Samba and any other Brazilian music style through the quality of his compositions, soulful interpretation, choice of repertoire and his perfect instrument playing, moving transparently between songs and instrumental themes. If someone wants to understand Samba, Paulinho da Viola is the starting point. Period.

This is Paulinho da Viola – A Danca da Solidao (1972), for Odeon, featuring Paulinho da Viola singing her own compositions and selected cuts by top-notch Samba composers, like Monarco, Nelson Sargento, Cartola, Wilson Baptista and others. Lindolfo Gaya is in charge of arrangements and Odeon did not credit musicians. Tracks include:

01 - Guardei Minha Viola (Paulinho da Viola)
02 - Meu Mundo É Hoje (Eu Sou Assim) (Wilson Batista / José Batista)
03 - Papelão (Geraldo das Neves)
04 - Duas Horas da Manhã (Nelson Cavaquinho / Ari Monteiro)
05 - Ironia (Paulinho da Viola)

Marilia Medalha - A Cancao e a Voz de Marilia Medalha na Poesia de Vinicius de Moraes (1972)

Hello, good evening! One of the benefits of all the hard work to rescue the missing links is to observe Loronix archives with a critical eye. I'm surprised with the things I find there. Anthological albums, which with the passage of time have been forgotten by me, will from now a new chance to appear on the first page. However, they will only have a chance if I can manage something new to add, such as improved cover scans or a new transfer to justify the upgrade and make it attractive for everybody. I hope the tapestry that I have been pushing up and updating is being useful to follow up the work in progress. Anyway, things are getting better all the time.

I want to show you one of those great archive surprises that I forgot along time, featuring an artist that has been in evidence this year with an amazing album made in partnership with a giant, Vinicius de Moraes. Let's see.

This is Marilia Medalha - A Cancao e a Voz de Marilia Medalha na Poesia de Vinicius de Moraes (1972), for RGE, frequently taken by mistake as a Vinicius de Moraes career LP, while he only plays the role of producer and composer, delivering also vocals in English with Marilia Medalha on track 05 - Mr. Toquinho. The great surprise here is that you will not find Vinicius de Moraes standards, but unknown compositions written by Marilia Medalha in partnership with Vinicius, including also two instrumental tracks, 06 - Sagarana and 12 - Distante, by Marilia Medalha. I think you will have high quality entertainment with this really unusual LP featuring arrangements by Edu Lobo and Chiquinho de Moraes. Tracks include:

01 - Se o Amor Pudesse (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Moinho D'água (Marília Medalha / Joãozinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - Canção Para o Grande Amor (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 - Meu Tempo (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
05 - Mr Toquinho (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes) with Vinicius de Moraes
06 - Sagarana (Marília Medalha)
07 - Ausência (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 - Algum Lugar (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
09 - Sem Razão de Ser (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 - Quem Ri Melhor (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
11 - Canção da Canção Que Nasceu (Marília Medalha / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 - Distante (Marília Medalha)

Jorge Ben - Salve Simpatia (1979)

Hello, good evening! I would be completely satisfied just watching this cover artwork with this really nice guy shaking hands with a friend and being embraced by a beautiful girl. I would be also very pleased if I found inside just a single track, Ive Brussel, with the participation of Caetano Veloso, blockbuster at the end of the 70's in Brazil and a really nice song. However, this is not what Salve Simpatia has to offer, in spite of my great lack of knowledge of the entire work of Jorge Ben, this album seems to be one of his greatest. It is also a great cover, it is impossible to take my eyes out of it and give the necessary attention to music. Finally, I learned to admire Jorge Ben through Loronix and I hope you also have the same fun I had this week when I discovered this album. Let's see.

This is Jorge Ben - Salve Simpatia (1979), for Som Livre, featuring well-known Jorge Ben tracks such like the title track Salve Simpatia and Jorge Ben duet with Caetano Veloso on Ive Brussel. Elizeth Cardoso - A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 3 (1963)

This album brings a blend of elements that guarantee flawless and solid listen. The first is Elizeth Cardoso singing Sambas in another record from the A Meiga Elizeth series, which totals five albums, having in common the direction and participation of the legendary Moacyr Silva, which is the second element of the combination. The third element is something to be confirmed, but I bet all my coins that Walter Wanderley takes part at this session, as well some others from the same A Meiga Elizeth series. Everything works really nice here, except this little inspired cover artwork, unlike other Elizeth Cardoso releases for Copacabana, the record company that released almost all LPs recorded by Elizeth Cardoso. Let's see.

This is Elizeth Cardoso - A Meiga Elizeth Nr. 3 (1963), for Copacabana, featuring Moacyr Silva as producer and tenor sax in some tracks. AdHoc says that every Elizeth Cardoso album is worth checking, which is something that I agree a hundred percent. Give this one a try and don't miss the restoration status update post, bringing daily updates on weeks already restored and improved with large deluxe cover scans. Tracks include:

01 - Deixa a Nega Gingar (Luis Cláudio)
02 - Só Eu Sei de Mim (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
03 - Leilão (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
04 - Saudade Particular (Manoel da Conceição / Lolita França)
05 - A Abelha (Paulo Valdez / Vera Brasil)
06 - Rimas de Ninguém (Vera Brasil)
07 - Canção da Manhã Feliz (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)

Nora Ney - Tire o Seu Sorriso do Caminho que Eu Quero Passar com a Minha Dor (1972)

Hello, good evening! Before our daily post, I would like to address the request made by Cris-Brasil that is looking for a Nora Ney album for her mother, a great Nora Ney admirer. Cris carries Brazil on her name and I cannot fail fulfilling a mother request. Cris-Brasil and Cris-Brasil's mother, this is Nora Ney, especially anticipated from the restoration work. I'm keeping my original text below. Stay tuned there is more to come today, I'm still deciding...

I'm surprised that Nora Ney never had an album released at Loronix. Nora Ney is a very important Brazilian singer, active since 1950, being one of the great Divas from the golden age of Radio. Nora Ney was also member of Sinatra Farney Fan Club, having influenced several artists. This album has a big title, which is an anthological sentence take from a Nelson Cavaquinho tune, A Flor e O Espinho. Let's see.

This is Nora Ney - Tire o Seu Sorriso do Caminho que Eu Quero Passar com a Minha Dor (1972), for Som Livre, featuring Nora Ney renditions of her early repertoire based on songs by Nelson Cavaquinho, Luiz Bonfa, Fernando Lobo, Antonio Maria, among many others. Some reviewers consider these cuts the definitive versions of acclaimed compositions, such like Ninguem me Ama, De Cigarro em Cigarro, Franqueza, among others. Maestro Guio de Moraes is in charge of arrangements while musicians in the set are not credited. Tracks include:

01 - Desabafo (Beto Quartin / Sergio Bittencourt)
02 - Quando Eu Me Chamar Saudade (Nelson Cavaquinho / Guilherme de Brito)
03 - Bar da Noite (Bidú Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
04 - Vamos Falar de Saudade (Chocolate / Mário Lago)
05 - Preconceito (Antônio Maria / Fernando Lobo)
06 - Franqueza (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
07 - Ninguém Me Ama (Fernando Lobo / Antônio Maria)
08 - A Flor e o Espinho (Nelson Cavaquinho / Alcides Caminha / Guilherme de Brito)
09 - Obra Prima (Lúcio Cardim / Norberto Pereira)
10 - É Tão Gostoso Seu Moço (Chocolate / Mário Lago)
11 - Quanto Tempo Faz (Paulo Soledade / Fernando Lobo)
12 - Onde Anda Você (Antônio Maria / Reinaldo Dias Leme)
13 - Conselho (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
14 - De Cigarro Em Cigarro (Luis Bonfá)
