Marilia Medalha - Boias de Luz (1978)

This album is dedicated to our great friend Trix completing the advanced age of 21 this weekend. Trix has a deep knowledge of whatever you think about Brazilian music, no matter the decade or style and what amazes me most he has only 21. We need to ask him when he started his interest on music, quite a phenomenon. Trix also had a website, which is unfortunately no longer updated. This album was the last made available by Trix on his really nice TrixVinylRips. Let's see.

This is Marilia Medalha - Boias de Luz (1978), for Continental, according with Trix, an outstanding album. I'm taking Trix review with English translation as Loronix homage to Trix and also an incentive to make him come back again with his website. Tracks include:

In 1978, Marilia Medalha launched Boias de Luz at Continental Label with arrangements by Dory Caymmi and Gonzaguinha. This album went unnoticed at that time, but is truly a masterpiece. Marilia Medalha became a famous singer with Festivais da Cancao performances with Edu Lobo and Momento 4uatro. Marilia never was an active performer, releasing only a couple of albums. In Boias de Luz, Marilia starts with a killing opening track 01 - Nos, Os Grandes Artistas (Luiz Gonzaga Jr.), delivering nice interpretations of Sambas from Ze Ketti, Abel Silva, Sueli Costa and others across this session. With no recording activity since 1992, Marilia Medalha has a great importance on Brazilian popular Music. We want her back! Thanks Trix!

Thanks a lot, Zeca, for this fantastic album. I wonder, though, if it was recorded too loud. Is it just my system, or do you have the same impression? It's such a mellow and well produced album, and it's a pity when the sound is overamplified. At any rate, thanks a mil for your great and important cultural work.

Thanks also for your great and very useful reviews at rateyourmusic.com.

I agree, this album is overamplified and this is a great technical issue that I'm trying to get along in the last days. My cartridge was upgraded and this is the root cause. This new cartridge delivers a louder output and even when I keep my mixer controls to a minimum level, I cannot reach the desided volume with some albums.

Advice on this subject, it will be of great help, please.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers, zeca
