Jacob do Bandolim - Do Arquivo do Jacob (1978)

Hello, good evening! I'm really amazed with another fine release sponsored by JOAO-SP, this is a beauty of a compilation recorded by RCA with re-mastered cuts covering several career phases of a true genius, Jacob do Bandolim, backed by renowned musicians, such like: Canhoto, Zaccarias, Dino 7 Cordas, Paulo Moura, Moacyr Silva, Fats Elpidio, Cesar Faria and many others. Let's see.

This is Jacob do Bandolim - Do Arquivo do Jacob (1978), for RCA Candem. Several compilations were released with re-mastered Jacob do Bandolim tracks and I never considered these albums at Loronix. JOAO-SP shows that once again I was wrong, there is more Jacob do Bandolim compilations to come and I took them for a spin today, they are all great. The download package includes the back cover scan with letters wrote by Jacob do Bandolim to his friend Alberto Rossi, a singer from Sao Paulo city, they reveal some facts about Jacob do Bandolim that I never heard about, including serious accident with his fingers in 1957. Tracks include:

Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethania & Gilberto Gil - Velloso, Bethania, Gil (1968)

Here we go on another nice album, courtesy of the great JOAO-SP and his package of LPs featuring so far Maysa, Os Demonios da Garoa, Quinteto Violado, Adoniran Barbosa, Radames Gnattali and Rafael Rabello, Paulinho Nogueira, Nara Leao & Roberto Menescal and Elis Regina with Zimbo Trio. There is more to come and we did not reach 50% of JOAO-SP albums. Let's see another.

Secos e Molhados - Secos e Molhados (1974)

Hello, good evening! My apologies for the five hours outage we had tonight on Find It, Loronix Preview Center, Forum, video and panorama display services and Realejo. These services run out of the domain loronix.blogspot.com and the servers that support these complimentary features went down. I had to work hard with the support team to put some urgency to make the repair; it was a very stressing night. In the other hand, I could realize the importance of these tiny applications that I have been creating across the last two years. Loronix is not the same without them. Anyway, everything is now up and running and the show must go on with something different and one of my favorite albums from the 70's. Let's see.

This is Secos e Molhados - Secos e Molhados (1974), for Continental, the second and last album of this legendary group, a mind opener for a whole generation of music lovers. The first Secos e Molhados album is already available at Loronix and I got a little bit disappointed with no comments received so far. I hope this one makes a best career, receiving feedbacks from our community. In spite of several reviews saying this second album is just for completionists, this is the one I like most, superior on several aspects from their first. Loronix Preview Center features 02 - Flores Astrais, their blockbuster, but any track deserves to be at our test drive center. Tracks include:

Personnel

Secos & Molhados

Ney Matogrosso
(vocal)
Joao Ricardo
(violao, vocal, harmonica)
Gerson Conrad

Willie

John
(violao, guitar)
Triana Romero

(piano, organ)
Norival
(drums)
Jorge Omar
(violao)

Track List

Paulinho Nogueira - Paulinho Nogueira Canta Suas Composicoes (1970)

I'm writing this text while listening to this album for the second time today, and once again, bossanovadreamer was totally right when he said this is one of the best albums released by Paulinho Nogueira. Thanks for the tip, bossanovadreamer, this is the first album where Paulinho Nogueira performs as a singer, not as an instrumentalist. Let's see.

This is Paulinho Nogueira - Paulinho Nogueira Canta Suas Composicoes (1970), for RGE, with arrangements and musical direction by Hector Laguna Fietta. This is all I know about this album, featuring only Paulinho Nogueira compositions. Personnel listing is not available, and I would like very much if someone identifies the organist, he delivers a groovy Hammond B3 organ, such like Walter Wanderley. This album never had a CD reissue, as many Paulinho Nogueira LPs from the 60's and 70's. Tracks include:

01 - Menina (Paulinho Nogueira)
02 - O Jogo É Hoje (Paulinho Nogueira)
03 - Imagens Coloridas (Paulinho Nogueira)
04 - Brasileiro É Fogo (Paulinho Nogueira)
05 - Para Contribuir a Confusão Geral (Paulinho Nogueira)
06 - O Que a Gente Quer (Paulinho Nogueira)
07 - Menino Desce Daí (Paulinho Nogueira)
08 - Estorinha (Paulinho Nogueira / Rita Moreira)
09 - Contracanto (Paulinho Nogueira)
10 - Moça da Chuva (Paulinho Nogueira / Rita Moreira)
11 - Menino Jogando Bola (Paulinho Nogueira)
12 - Ouvi Tua Voz (Paulinho Nogueira)

Dorival Caymmi - Cancoes Praieiras (1954)

I was very frustrated for not being able to repost Cancoes Praieiras, which is Dorival Caymmi masterpiece, at least in my humble opinion. I was reluctant to make a copy of my vinyl, he is not on ideal conditions in terms of media and cover artwork, but the chances to get this one on a nice shape is really small, so I decided to make my best effort on a restoration, but I was not able to make it with no background noise. I'm making it in respect of several friends who have been requesting this one gathering my original text from August 2006. Let's see.

This is Dorival Caymmi - Cancoes Praieiras (1954), for Odeon, a superb and extremely beautiful featuring Dorival Caymmi and his violao. Cancoes Praieiras was recorded 54 years ago and remains fresh as yesterday. The 10-inch format delivers a short 23 minutes duration time with only eight songs. Tracks include:

01 - Quem Vem Pra Beira do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
02 - O "Bem" do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
03 - O Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
04 - Pescaria (Canoeiro) (Dorival Caymmi)
05 - É Doce Morrer no Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
06 - A Jangada Voltou Só (Dorival Caymmi)
07 - Lenda do Abaete (Dorival Caymmi)
08 - Saudade de Itapoã (Dorival Caymmi)

Attention: Music files are now updated, courtesy AdHoc, that Rocks! Thanks also Alvinho, cvllos and all other friends made available their music to us.

Carnaval Video | Meu Bem Volto Ja (2008)

Hello, good evening! Carnaval is not over, but the end is approaching. I want to admit that our Carnaval album coverage was really bellow my worst estimates, so I decided to make something different to close Carnaval time sending zecalouro with his digital camera to the eye of the hurricane. The results are available bellow with a Copacabana panorama showing clusters of human beings across the beach and a movie featuring Carnaval images (real Carnaval footage!!) taken from the top of the building and the most difficult part, in the ground together with the mass.

My apologies for the quality of the movie, it was taken today at 6:30 p.m. during Bloco Carnavalesco Meu Bem Volto Ja parade. This should be boring for the friends in Brazil, but a real treat for friends who never had the chance to come to Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval time.

Hope uEnjoy!

PS. Meu Bem Volto Ja is the second from the left to right.

Bola Sete - E a Bola da Vez (1959)

This is my homage to a friend that makes a tough and solitary work on Loronix archives, by correcting information, updating, adding tracklist information on very old posts and any sort of work needed to make Loronix a better place to visit. His name is primocoe and each primocoe word bellow is a link to a post with a primocoe update. Thanks a lot primocoe, this update is dedicated to your great work.

This is Bola Sete – E a Bola da Vez (1959), for Odeon, the last album recorded by Bola Sete in Brazil before moving to the United States. I had a great time with this album tonight; Bola Sete plays with a great enthusiasm and a wonderful technique. Updates include cover artwork and music, with the availability of FLAC files. 02 - Um Chorinho dos Nossos (Gaúcho / Lauro Paiva)

Carnaval Challenge | Who are they?

Hello, good evening! I like Samba, but today I was exposed with zecalouro to almost 12 hours of Samba, played out very loud in my street. Carnavai brings really strange days; everybody gets really happy in the street, although loosing one hand, always busy holding a can of beer. Anyway, this is the reason we will skip the Carnaval post of the day, but keeping Carnaval spirit, let's try to solve this challenge by answering two questions, the identification of the three Samba legends and the Samba school they are taking part. I’m leaving now to help Loronix engineers, the music is delayed today. Last information, find bellow the panorama the link for this great picture, with no Rapidshare.

Hope uEnjoy!

Maysa - Ando So Numa Multidao de Amores (1970)

The first thing I want to say is THANKS JOAO-SP for providing us such great contributions. JOAO-SP sent us more than 30 LPs; they are all new to our community, such as this beauty recorded by Maysa, one of the greatest Brazilian divas, not released at Loronix since May 2007. I had also some difficulty to realize this album was not a book, a Maysa biography written by Lira Neto last year. I cannot remember this album being released on CD and I cannot understand why it was not released together with the book, since both shares the same title. Let's see.

This is Maysa - Ando So Numa Multidao de Amores (1971), for Philips. Little I know about this album, except it is produced and directed by Roberto Menescal and arranged by Luiz Eca and Roberto Menescal. I think Luiz Eca also delivers piano playing to Maysa, perhaps our great friend Thiago Mello from Bossa Brasileira, who knows everything about Maysa, can add something on top of my text. I think we will be on great company with Maysa. I wish to send a great Carnaval Monday to friends from Brazil and a great week start to everybody. Tracks include:

01 - Molambo (Jaime Florence "Meira" / Augusto Mesquita)
02 - Yo Sin Ti (Arturo Castro)
03 - Me Deixe Só (Roberto Menescal / Maysa)
04 - Chuvas de Verão (Fernando Lobo)
05 - Três Lágrimas (Ary Barroso)
06 - Assim na Terra Como no Céu (Roberto Menescal / Nonato Buzar / Paulinho Tapajós)
07 - Eu (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
08 - Suas Mãos (Pernambuco / Antônio Maria)
09 - Bonita (Tom Jobim / Ray Gilbert)
10 - Resposta (Maysa)
11 - Que Eu Canse e Descanse (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
12 - As Praias Desertas (Tom Jobim)
13 - Quando Chegares (Carlos Lyra)

Raimundo Fagner - Raimundo Fagner (1976)

It's amazing how the result of our Carnaval poll varies. Bafo da Onca and Jamelao were swapping the first place across the day. Anyway, let's talk about this artist and especially about this album. I use to hide my preferences when writing texts to Loronix, I cannot influence your choices, but sometimes it is impossible to resist on making a passionate review. I did not realize I had this album after 30 years, but my mother found it this week and said I would make at Loronix as soon as possible, and that is what I'm doing right now. Let's see.

This is Raimundo Fagner - Raimundo Fagner (1976), for Columbia, the third Fagner career LP and perhaps his best album released in the 70's, featuring Robertinho de Recife delivering a great guitar player, Wagner Tiso, Luiz Alves, Robertinho Silva, Chico Batera, among others. We have here a beauty of an album full of beautiful melodies and great acoustic arrangements. My highlight goes to 03 - Asa Partida, which is the track available at Loronix Preview Center. Tracks include:
