2008 was a special year; however, it was also the year that Dorival Caymmi left us. Thus, I would like to leave 2008 with Dorival Caymmi and this beautiful cover featuring a beautiful panting to send positive vibrations to everybody. This is the US Capitol issue of Odeon's Dorival Caymmi - Eu Nao Tenho Onde Morar (1960), with arrangements by Maestro Lindolpho Gaya. I will keep my original text. Let's see.

This is Dorival Caymmi - Eu Nao Tenho Onde Morar (1960), for Odeon and made available here with an US Capitol reissue, featuring several well-known Caymmi compositions, such as: Rosa Morena, Marina, O que e que a Bahiana Tem, Acalanto among many others. We probably know these tunes through other artists’ interpretation and now it is time to hear how they perform with Dorival Caymmi, who says the only artist that makes definitive versions of his music is Joao Gilberto. Nana Caymmi is special guest on track 04 - Acalanto and Maestro Lindolfo Gaya is in charge of orchestra arrangements. No Mundo do Samba (1955)

Hello, good evening! I said yesterday that I would be breaking today the series of posts from the 1970's decade with something very old. I'm paying my bill with the oldest album I could find here, from 1955. I love the records made by Musidisc in the 1950's. The artwork is ahead of that time and was probably made by a single person since the style is unique and very easy to identify.

Milton Nascimento - Journey to Dawn (1979)

Hello, good evening! I had the feeling that something should be different while preparing this post. But I only understood what was causing this worry a few minutes ago. It was very easy to realize, just look at the last 7 albums and you will see they were released in the 1970's, a big coincidence. I'm now missing the music from previous decades, which are the contributions I like most, for several reasons.

I swear that tomorrow this sequence is interrupted, if possible with something quite old, from the 1950s. Anyway, these are details when we have a record by Milton Nascimento, a good choice to start the last week of 2008. Let's see.

This is Milton Nascimento - Journey to Dawn (1979), for A&M, recorded in the US, featuring Milton Nascimento backed by renowned Brazilian and American musicians. I had a great time with this album today, when I had the chance to hear for the first time. Jorge Ben - Africa Brasil (1976)

Hello, good evening! It is really hard to believe this album is now out of print. It is considered by many important people as one of the best popular music albums ever recorded in Brazil. If you take a look around Rate your Music, Amazon or any other customer reviews website you will understand what I'm saying. I'm sure most of Loronix's friends already have this album, but I think Africa Brasil also belongs to Loronix, and I hope you have a great time with this acclaimed record. Let's see.

Edu Lobo - Limite das Aguas (1976)

Hello, good evening! Brazil has a lot of music and albums to discover and sometimes you get surprised with a new discovery. I need to admit that I never had the chance to listen carefully a single album released by Edu Lobo in the 70's, in spite of having some knowledge about his work in the 1960's with Tamba Trio and Nara Leao. I was missing great music, this album has an unique atmosphere and is hard to believe it has gone out of print. Let's see.

This is Edu Lobo - Limite das Aguas (1976), for Continental, featuring one of the most requested artists by Loronix community, backed by a constellation of Brazilian musicians. Edu Lobo delivers a blend of Jazz with Brazilian music from Nordeste, Northeast region. Arrangements are in charge of Mauricio Mendonca, also known as Mauricio Maestro from the vocal group Boca Livre. Joyce vocals can be heard in two tracks, as described at personnel listing section. Hello, good evening! My pick for this Saturday was decided on a different manner. I'm in a rush here, and I did not took this album for a hearing the way I use to do. But you should agree it is not necessary. This album never had a CD reissue and it unknown to many friends. The little I heard was enough to understand this record is such like a friend's meeting, very relaxed session. The duo brings to studio renowned friends, such like Maria Bethania, Maria Creuza, Sergio Endrigo and Cyro Monteiro, which is his last record session participation before his passing in the same year. Milton Banana Trio - Ao Meu Amigo Tom | Samba e Isso Volume 4 (1980)

Hello, good evening! As we are getting older, it seems the time goes faster. This album was first released at Loronix in August 2006. It is a lot of time, we are very close to reach 2009, but from my perspective, this album was made available a couple of months ago. Milton Banana released tribute records featuring music of his friends Chico Buarque, Vinicius de Moraes and Antonio Carlos Jobim, which is in my opinion the best of these tribute albums. Let's see.

This is Milton Banana Trio - Ao Meu Amigo Tom | Samba e Isso Volume 4 (1980), for RCA Victor. The formula is the same used on other tributes, instrumental renditions of Antonio Carlos Jobim music featuring pairs of tunes on each track. Elis Regina - Falso Brilhante (1976)

Hello, good evening! Thanks for the amazing feedback given to yesterday's launching of Musicos do Brasil website, a project that I'm very proud to take part working with a great team. Many thanks to everybody who had the chance to collaborate with us until we made this initial launching, especially the musicians by providing their information, photos and audios to our database. We have there a huge content, more than 500 musicians' pictures and more than 15 hours of music for listening. Everything provided by the musicians. And we are still counting since there are many new musicians to be activated and several existing musicians are now providing additional material.

Anyway, the music cannot stop at Loronix and this is what I call a flawless release, Elis Regina is one of the most demanded artists by our community, this album is considered one of her best releases in the 70's and it is also surprisingly out of print. Let's see.

This is Elis Regina - Falso Brilhante (1976), for Philips. I always thought this album was a live recording of the famous Elis Regina's Falso Brilhante show, but is a studio session based on the repertoire of that successful show, continuously on stage for more than a year from December 1975 until February 1977. Falso Brilhante is also about one of my favorites Brazilian composers, Belchior, author Como os Nossos Pais, one of greatest Elis Regina interpretations, which is Falso Brilhante opening track and also my selection to Loronix Preview Center. Amigos, depois de mais de um ano de intenso e prazeroso trabalho, com muita alegria anunciamos à comunidade do Loronix que o site da Enciclopédia Eletrônica e Permanente de Música Instrumental Brasileira já está disponível, aqui.

Recebemos mais de 400 questionários de músicos em atividade e a partir dos quais elaboramos cada verbete. Pesquisamos e escrevemos, também, cerca de 150 verbetes sobre músicos que já morreram, como Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim e muitos outros, inclusive Márcio Montarroyos e J. T. Meirelles, falecidos recentemente.

A Enciclopédia apresenta, além dos verbetes, dissertações universitárias que nos foram gentilmente cedidas por seus autores, e ensaios escritos especialmente para o projeto sobre os mais diversos aspectos da música instrumental brasileira.

Elaboramos, ainda, um painel de época retratando como era o mundo e a vida das pessoas em cada década do século XX, com a finalidade de permitir que se entenda um pouco melhor o ambiente histórico, social, tecnológico e político em que cada um dos músicos nasceu e produziu a sua obra.

Músicos: Aqui é possível percorrer alfabeticamente todos os verbetes disponíveis, conhecendo assim os nomes dos músicos incluidos na Enciclopédia; ao encontrar o músico que procura, basta que você clique sobre seu nome para ler o verbete completo.

Também aqui são informados os dez últimos verbetes incluídos ou alterados, em ordem decrescente; ou seja, no alto da lista estão os verbetes mais recentes.

A coluna “Em Elaboração” informa os verbetes que estão aguardando a resposta dos músicos aos questionários, para que futuramente estejam disponíveis na Enciclopédia.

Cada verbete pode ter até oito seções, conforme as atividades desenvolvidas pelo músico. Clicando-se na aba correspondente, a seção desejada é aberta para leitura.

Áudio e Foto é uma seção especial do verbete, na qual você poderá ver mais fotos do músico, e ouvir músicas na íntegra. O conteúdo dessa seção, no caso dos músicos vivos, foi cedido pelos próprios artistas. No caso de músicos falecidos, só serão incluídas músicas cedidas pelos titulares dos direitos, e as fotos foram obtidas na Internet.

Ensaios: Solicitamos a 40 músicos e pesquisadores que escrevessem ensaios especialmente para a Enciclopédia.

Esses 40 ensaios estão disponíveis aqui, podendo ser lidos, baixados ou impressos. Qualquer outra utilização depende da autorização expressa dos autores.

Dissertações e Teses: Você encontra aqui um conjunto de dissertações e teses acadêmicas, devidamente autorizada por seus titulares. São trabalhos produzidos como parte da obtenção de grau de mestre ou doutor, sempre tratando de temas ligados à música instrumental brasileira.

Eles podem ser lidos, baixados e impressos. Qualquer outra utilização depende da autorização expressa dos autores. Lembramos que são documentos extensos, que podem chegar a 400 páginas. Em alguns casos, contêm arquivos de imagem e som.

Painéis de Época: Os Painéis de Época foram redigidos especificamente para a Enciclopédia, e procuram retratar como era o mundo e como era a vida das pessoas em cada década do século XX.

A finalidade dos Painéis de Época é permitir que você entenda um pouco melhor o ambiente histórico, social, tecnológico e político em que cada um dos músicos nasceu e produziu a sua obra.

Tom & Dito - Reverterio (1976)

Hello, good evening! This is the second appearance of Tom & Dito at Loronix. The first was a long time ago, in the very first beginning, one of the first albums made available here. Unfortunately, the first album is no longer available, and it was a very successful release. I had the idea to show this album when I received today a message from Thomas Fawcett, which is the owner and maintainer of a new website devoted to the music from Brazil from the 1970's, Brazil Soul Power.

I would like to take Thomas' introductory words and his enthusiastic definition of Brazil Soul Power. And I would like also to say that another Brazilian music resource is about to go live in less than 72 hours with full coverage at Loronix. Stay tuned and let's read Thomas value proposition. Hello, good evening! I think I'm getting older very fast this year and losing my good memory for albums. I was looking for something by Maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim and I did not remember this soundtrack as Jobim's regular career album. By the way, this post was only possible with the help of the mysterious friend and his huge and amazing collection made available to Loronix community. This is Loronix tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim years passing in 08 December 1994. Antonio Carlos Jobim will be missed forever. Let's see.

This is Antonio Carlos Jobim - Gabriela | Trilha Sonora Original (1983), for RCA, featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim and Gal Costa, based on Jorge Amado Gabriela, Cravo & Canela novel. Gabriela should not be taken as TV Globo soup opera soundtrack released in 1975 by Som Livre, Gabriela belongs to the 1983 film, directed by Bruno Barreto and starred by Sonia Braga -- the "original" 1975 Gabriela -- and Marcelo Mastroianni. I did not see this film, but the soundtrack is really pleasant, featuring arrangements by Oscar Castro Neves with Tom and Gal Costa singing and performing together in a few tracks. Geraldo Vandre - Canto Geral (1968)

Hello, good evening! I need energy this week, we are about to release a new website, which is the first Brazilian instrumental music encyclopedia, something already spoken here at Loronix. This is the final week; the website is schedule to go live next Monday and these days should be really busy down here.

Meanwhile, it is important to keep Loronix updated, but the announcement of our last 700 hundred albums donator needs to be postponed once again. It is an extremely important contribution that needs to be formally addressed with all the necessary bells and whistles.

There is also a very important event today that I Loronix will be missing, which is Antonio Carlos Jobim 14th years passing in 8th December 1994. This is a really important date and I will make a special post in the forthcoming days. Anyway, let's make this album, the second contribution by our so far mysterious friend. Let's rock!

This is Geraldo Vandre - Canto Geral (1968), for Odeon, featuring the participation of Trio Maraya delivering vocals, instrumental arrangements, vocal arrangements and their typical instruments playing, such like queixada-de-burro, ca-chi-chi and viola. According with Luiz Americo and his 100 Discos Fundamentais compilation, this is the most politically engaged Geraldo Vandre album, released in a time where Brazil was about to enter on the hardest period of the military dictatorship with the release of AI-5. Sivuca - Live at the Village Gate (1973)

Hello, good evening! Wish I have much more energy tonight, because this is a special night and this is a really special post. This is the first of a probably endless series of album that will come to Loronix through a donation. Yes, I said a donation, and not a standard donation, but a complete collection, perhaps more than 700 records, spanning decades of Brazilian popular music.

The one responsible for this fantastic donation is a great friend. We have been together on on-line adventures since the 1980's decade, a time that Internet was such like a dream and we had a lot of fun with BBSs. By the way, this friend reminds me CentroIn, which was really the best BBS in Rio de Janeiro (this is an easy hint to discover who is zeca!).

I said I'm tired and I'm really exhausted today. It is better and prudent to announce who made this donation later. By now, let's stay with this suspense atmosphere and this great album never released before at Loronix and hard to believe that has gone out of print. Let's see.

This is Sivuca - Live at the Village Gate (1973), for Vanguard, made available here with the Brazilian Copacabana issue. I would like to wait a couple of days to release this album in December 15th as a tribute to Sivuca's passing in 2006, but I could not resist. This album was a missing piece in my collection and, of course, a missing piece at Loronix. Live at Village Gate was recorded at the homonymous Village Gate, a nightclub in New York City, and features Sivuca on his peak, backed by American musicians. Simonetti e Sua Orquestra - Dance com Simonetti (1961)

Hello, good evening! It is really, really nice to share another album recorded by Maestro Simonetti. It is also really amazing to know that this one never had a previous release at Loronix. I think Simonetti has many fans among Loronix's community, such like Caetano Rodrigues, another Simonetti enthusiast that should be really pleased to see this one. By the way, this cover is simple, but is very beautiful and very efficient to sell this kind of album. Let's see.

This is Simonetti e Sua Orquestra - Dance com Simonetti (1961), for RGE, featuring renditions a Brazilian and international repertoire in the "Para Dancar" style. Simonetti was born in Italy, came to Brazil in 1949, staying until the mid 1960's, when he decided to come back to his homeland in Italy. Simonetti was very famous in Brazil, recording several albums, writing arrangements to renowned Brazilian artists, such like: Maysa, Agostinho dos Santos, Elza Laranjeira, Dick Farney, Leny Eversong, and many others. He was an active songwriter to Vera Cruz, a famous Brazilian movie studio and also a host of shows in Brazilian TV. Carlos Lyra e Dulce Nunes - Pobre Menina Rica (1964)

Hello, good evening! I'm opening the week with a self-explanatory release. Actually, this is the repost of an anthological record, made available at Loronix in February 2007 and moved to draft a couple of weeks later due a technical problems with the transfer. Since then, I lost my hope to make it again, it is out of print and the last reissue was made in the remote year of 1996. This is 1996 CD issue, made available by Loronix Official Audio Engineer, better, our Official Audio Scientist, the mighty AdHoc with another flawless transfer and very solid release. Let's see.

This is Carlos Lyra e Dulce Nunes - Pobre Menina Rica (1964), for Columbia, music by Carlos Lyra and poetry by Vinicius de Moraes. This is the soundtrack of a play that also had on stage Vinicius de Moraes and Nara Leao, together. Dulce Nunes shares the main performer role with Carlos Lyra and this cute record also features Maestro Moacir Santos, the singer Thelma, Catulo de Paula and Maestro Radames Gnattali as the music director. I'm sure that nothing can go wrong with this fantastic AdHoc's contribution. Os Novos Baianos - Caia na Estrada e Perigas Ver (1976)

Hello, good evening! Os Novos Baianos is an important a vocal and instrumental group formed in the late 1960's in Bahia that never had an album available at Loronix. I could not believe when I could not find a single album when browsing the archives today. These guys played a very important role on blending traditional Brazilian genres -- such as Samba, Choro, Frevo -- with rock and popular music. When I was trying to make a life as musician, Os Novos Baianos were a strong influence and I got surprised today when I took this album for a spin. Their music is still fresh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this album never had a chance of being reissued in CD and I'm sure it will take everybody by surprise. Let's see.

This is Os Novos Baianos - Caia na Estrada e Perigas Ver (1976), for Tapecar, featuring Baby Consuelo, Paulinho Boca de Cantor, Galvao and Pepeu Gomes, which is probably their first record without Moraes Moreira that left the group earlier. By the way, Os Novos Baianos were formed in the end of the 60's by Moraes Moreira, Baby Consuelo, Galvao and Paulinho Boca de Cantor. Pepeu Gomes is a latecomer; he was already a professional musician in 1969 and was invited to join Os Novos Baianos after his performance with Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso at Barra 69 Show. Tom Jobim e Billy Blanco - Serie Idolos da MPB 7 (1974)

Hello, good evening! I would like to give my sincere apologies for a non-planned hiatus during the whole weekend. We are in the final stages for launching of a new website. It is not necessary to say this website is about Brazilian music and especially about Brazilian musicians. It is an amazing project, which will pay back all the effort we are putting in these final days. Stay tuned.

Speaking about this album, don't let the appearances cheat you as I was. I always thought this record as a given reissue of the essential Antonio Carlos Jobim and Billy Blanco's Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro, released for the first time by Continental in 1954. In fact it is. Side A features a remastered version of the whole 1954 album. However, Continental delivers remastered cuts taken from 78rpms with very important recordings, and this is what makes this album a winner. Let's see.

Jovelina Perola Negra was discovered during the 80's, starting her recording career with the age of 41, a late recording debut, such like Clementina de Jesus. Manfredo Fest - After Hours (1972)

Hello, good evening! Mr. Jose Ignacio Neto, kindly known as JIN, the third generation of the Ignacio's family, a family devoted to Brazilian music, and also the owner and maintainer of the legendary "A Volta" Podcast, is back to Loronix. JIN brings fantastic contributions this time, which includes a great "surprise to zeca", an unknown album that JIN guarantees it is something never heard before by many friends. This is Manfredo Fest - After Hours (1972), for Daybreak, featuring Manfredo Fest piano backed by a group of American musicians. JIN wants to start great and I agree this is a great start. Manfredo Fest is one of the most requested artists by Loronix community. He was a Bossa Nova pioneer in Brazil and had also a very solid career in the US, where he made his move in the mid 1960's, invited by Sergio Mendes and never came back to Brazil. Radames Gnattali - Radames Gnattali (1984)

Hello, good evening! I'm not a big fan of piano solo albums; they use to be very complex, requiring a lot of concentration until you understand everything. I'm not taking in consideration this is a piano solo album played by one of the greatest Brazilian musicians ever. If I took it for a spin without knowing this is Radames Gnattali, I would be also really impressed about this music. I know we had previous piano solo albums played by Radames Gnattali, but what makes the difference here is the repertoire, full of tunes that we know by heart, making easy to understand Radames Gnattali improvisation at a first hearing. I would like to say thank you to Jorge Mello, for another fantastic contribution to Loronix. Let's see.

This is Radames Gnattali - Radames Gnattali (1984), for Libertas, recorded live at Sala Cecilia Meirelles, Rio de Janeiro, December 1984. I can't remember what I was doing on December 1984, but if I could travel back to the past, I would like to be at this concert. Front cover is also worth checking out with a Radames Gnattali drawing made by the unique style of Nassara. The back cover also includes a handwriting message by Antonio Carlos Jobim, inviting Radames Gnattali to drink a "chope" with "amendoim". Tracks include:

Severino Araujo e Sua Orquestra Tabajara (1956)

Hello, good evening! This is the end of our short series of orchestra albums, which began a few days ago with Maestro Severino Filho and being closed here by the legendary Orquestra Tabajara, certainly the oldest orchestra in activity in Brazil and perhaps one of the oldest in activity around the world. Orchestra Tabajara was created in 1933, being commanded by Maestro Severino Araujo since 1938. By the way, 2008 landmarks 70 years of Maestro Severino Araujo in front of Orquestra Tabajara.

I would like to thank Carlos Watkins (at comment section) and Marco Antonio Russi (at my personal email) for the identification of Jayme Araujo de Oliveira (Teddy Garner) as Maestro Severino Araujo's brother. This post is dedicated to these good friends. Now I can finish my article with the information needed about this musician. Let's see.

This is Severino Araujo e Sua Orquestra Tabajara (1956), for Continental, released in the 10-inch size, but with a running time of 31 minutes, such like a regular 12-inch LP. Maestro Severino Araujo and Orquestra Tabajara deliver instrumental renditions of Brazilian standards and music written by Severino Araujo, which are the ones that I like most, especially 02 - Melodia em Tres Ritmos, featuring a very well played sax and some "batucadas". Continental did not credit Orquestra Tabajara musicians, but I could find information about the orchestra members around that years, with several renowned musicians, including K-Ximbinho, Del Loro, Geraldo Medeiros, Ze Bodega, among others. Teddy Garner com Lyrio Panicalli e Seus Violinos do Ceu - Sax Imortal (1961)

Hello, good evening! I'm writing an article and organizing a discography of Brazilian music albums recorded by musicians using nicknames, which was something very common in the 60's decade, and this album is a missing piece on my discography. Unlike other artists who normally used nicknames to bypass their contractual obligations, this musician adopted this name as his artistic name, and so far he is the only musician that used this tactic in my study.

Teddy Garner is the nickname of the Brazilian saxophonist Jayme Araujo de Oliveira, homage to Freddy Gardner, one of the most famous British sax players during the 30's and 40's. I have loads of information about Freddy Gardner, but I could not find a single line written about Jayme Araujo de Oliveira and his Teddy Gardner. If you know something about Jayme Araujo de Oliveira, feel free to use the comment section or write me an e-mail. So, I will be able to tell the story of this obscure musician and this interesting album. Let's see.

This is Teddy Garner com Lyrio Panicalli e Seus Violinos do Ceu - Sax Imortal (1961), for Columbia, with Jayme Araujo de Oliveira sax and Lyrio Panicalli orchestra performing renditions of American standards, based on the Freddy Gardner music. Perhaps this is the first and only album recorded by Teddy Garner, by the way, a solid start with our mysterious Jayme Araujo de Oliveira dueling with Lyrio Panicalli orchestral arrangements. Musicians on this session were not credited by Columbia, except both main performers. I'm confident Loronix community will retrieve more information about this. Tracks include:

Severino Filho e Sua Orquestra - O Mundo em 7 Notas (1960)

Hello, good evening! I cannot remember that last time an old and good orchestra LP was released at Loronix. Perhaps in the beginning of this year. Anyway, the style really needs more attention and this album should pay all my debts with the legion of friends who that have been creating demand for some orchestra LPs. Let’s see.

This is Severino Filho e Sua Orquestra – Um Brasileiro Ouviu... Viu... Sentiu... O Mundo em 7 Notas (1960), for Continental, featuring orchestra and choir arrangements by Maestro Severino Filho (Os Cariocas) and a not credited participation of Os Cariocas at the choir. There are several elements that drag my attention here. The cover artwork featuring an airplane from the legendary Panair do Brasil, an airline that dominated Brazilian market throughout many years and was closed by Brazilian military government in 1965. I also like the concept of regions and world countries celebration. For each celebrated country our region, Maestro Severino Filho delivers arrangements of medleys with relevant music. Continental did not credit Maestro Severino Filho co-workers. Tracks include:

Antonio Carlos & Jocafi - Ossos do Oficio (1975)

Hello, good evening! I had 10 when this album was released in 1975, and after decades, I know by heart this title track, Ossos do Oficio. I can also remember the lyrics of their most popular songs released on their previous albums, since 1971, such like, Voce Abusou, Toro de Lagrimas, Desacato and Mudei de Ideia. This is just to make you understand the great popularity this duo had in the beginning of the 1970’s. Pop stars, internationally recognized as icons of a decade, not only for his music, but also by their attitude, way of dressing and so on. Let’s see.

This is Antonio Carlos e Jocafi – Ossos do Oficio (1975), for RCA Victor, featuring Ossos do Oficio, one of the most famous Antonio Carlos e Jocafi tune. I take a look today at Antonio Carlos e Jocafi albums availability at Amazon and I was surprised to do not see a single career album available for purchase. Correct if I’m wrong, but Ossos do Oficio never had a CD reissue and it is probably unknown for many friends. Once again, RCA Victor excels, delivering a very well recorded album, arranged and performed by renowned musicians. Tracks include:

Jacob do Bandolim - Epoca de Ouro | Jacob e Seu Bandolim em HI-FI (1958)

This is Jacob do Bandolim - Epoca de Ouro | Jacob e Seu Bandolim em HI-FI (1958), for RCA Victor. Jacob do Bandolim recorded this album in 1958, and it is really different from his regular choro releases. Jacob is backed by and orchestra arranged by Maestro Radames Gnatalli and Maestro Carioca with Maestro Zaccarias in charge of conduction. There is also a Conjunto, not with a traditional Choro formation, featuring bass, piano, sax and accordion performed by renowned Brazilian musicians. The first post was made with a mid 60’s RCA Candem reissue and this is the first RCA Victor original issue, featuring this beautiful cover that finally arrives at Loronix. Tracks include:

Charles Gavin - 300 Discos Importantes da Musica Brasileira

Hello! I would like to invite everybody to watch this video with Charles Gavin interview to GloboNews Estudio i show, hosted by Maria Beltrão. It is a truly amazing 15 minutes video with Charles speaking about his new Bossa Nova book, 300 Discos Importantes da Música Brasileira.

The book has 434 pages and has the size of a LP. Two CDs are included, Moreira da Silva – O Último Malandro (1959) and Elza Soares – Elza Soares | Baterista: Wilson das Neves (1968). 300 Discos Importantes da Música Brasileira is produced by Charles Gavin and written by Tarik de Souza, Carlos Calado and Arthur Dapieve. Caetano Rodrigues, Valdir Siqueira and zecalouro (sic!) are collaborators. The book is still available for purchase at Livraria Cultura with part of the revenue donated to Instituto Sou da Paz. Follow my advice and run for it before it runs out of print.

I would like to thank Charles Gavin for his tireless work of rescuing the forgotten and amazing Brazilian music from the past. I’m also very proud when Charles speaks wonders about Loronix on every interview he makes, such like this one where he talks about Loronix and a great story of an album he was looking for and I had the chance to please him with a copy.
