Trio Surdina - Trio Surdina em Bossa Nova (1963)

Woow! That's a great release with all the ingredients that I like. This is Trio Surdina, an instrumental trio that released more than 70 records, all released for the same record label, the legendary Musidisc of Nilo Sergio. Probably, Trio Surdina is Nilo Sergio creation since the name surdina is a joke, meaning that members cannot be revealed.

Trio Surdina members were not revealed due contract obligations with other record labels, great Musidisc idea. Obviously, they were revealed or discovered later and most of Trio Surdina recordings were made by Fafa Lemos (violin), Garoto (guitar) and Chiquinho (accordion). Garoto - Anibal Augusto Sardinha - is a renowned Brazilian guitarist.

This is Trio Surdina - Trio Surdina em Bossa Nova (1963), for Musidisc. The line-up for this Trio Surdina "edition" is Waltel Branco (guitar), Chiquinho do Acordeom (accordion) and Patane (violin). Neco's Guitar And The Ipanema Strings - Velvet Bossa Nova (1966)

Here is the first Neco LP at Loronix. Neco is a Brazilian guitarist well known as the guitar player of the anthological album Os Ipanemas (1966). Neco is noted by his right hand with a strong sense of rhythm. He has participated on several recording sessions for many record labels along his career. Being also an arranger and composer, Neco released his first LP in 1963, Samba Nova Concepcao, being in charge of arrangements and orchestra.

This is the second solo LP, Neco's Guitar And The Ipanema Strings - Velvet Bossa Nova (1966), for London, with classic Bossa Nova tunes and arranged by Nelsinho do Trombone, considered by many as an instrumental masterpiece LP from the 60's. Breno Sauer Quinteto - Sambabessa (1963)

Good night, friends! Everybody talks about the Brazilian music from Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Bahia, notably, these five states are really important, they gave renowned artists and were also responsible for cultural movements such as Tropicalismo, Bossa Nova, etc.

I have received more than a few e-mails from friends of Rio Grande do Sul, not with complaints, just remembering that this state gave to us legends such like Elis Regina, Manfredo Fest, among others. Breno Sauer is not considered a legend, but had an important contribution to instrumental music and was responsible for some other artists that got recognition with him, such like Garoto and Olmir Stocker aka Alemao.

Let's move the spotlight for Breno Sauer Quinteto - Sambabessa (1963), for RGE, wonderful instrumental LP featuring Breno Sauer (vibes), Olmir Stocker (guitar), Osvaldo Carrero (accordion), Portinho (drums) and Erne Eger (bass). You will probably wonder if the drummer Portinho is in fact Maestro Portinho. I could not check it, but it seems that it is just a homonymous. Tracks include:

Ana Mazzotti - Ninguem Vai me Segurar (1974)

Ana Mazzotti has arrived at Loronix. She is a Brazilian singer from the 70's, specialized in Jazz that release this debut LP in 1974 and two additional releases, one in 1974 and other one in 1982, a recorded live show. Anyway, that is all I know about Ana Mazzotti, but I'm sure that this is sensational LP, Ana Mazzotti - Ninguem Vai me Segurar (1974), for Top Tape.

Thanks Max de Castro that provided with his great sharing spirit this LP to Loronixers. Max describes this record with a great enthusiasm and I agree with Max, this is a flawless JazzFunky record from the 70's, with Anna Mazzotti backed up by three Azimuth members, including the mighty Jose Roberto Bertrami (moog, organ and piano), Alex Malheiros (bass and guitars), Romildo T. Santos (drums) and Ariovaldo (percussion). I think this is one of those LPs that are released quiet and becomes all time favorites. Tracks include:

There is no much to say about this LP, believe me, not parrot laziness this time. Being straightforward, this is Wilson das Neves - Samba Tropi, Ate ai Morreu o Neves (1970) for Elenco. Just take a deep breathe to read personnel, breathtaking, with Os Diagonais on vocals and Mozart & Wagner at trumpet. Orquestra e Coral de Severino Filho - Metais e Vozes em Festival (1963)

Hello! Let's start the day great with another Caetano Rodrigues contribution to Loronix. This record is always taken by mistake as an Os Cariocas album, probably by the great identification of Severino Filho with Os Cariocas. Severino filho was founder and member of os Cariocas during all phases, leading the group since the passing of his brother, Ismael Netto.

Severino Filho is a pianist and is also responsible for Os Cariocas vocal arrangements. This is Orquestra e Coral de Severino Filho - Metais e Vozes em Festival (1963), similar to the last release of Orquestra Pan American, which also had the participation of Os Cariocas.

Personnel include, Coral Oito Vozes, which is Os Cariocas as Severino Filho, Badeco, Quartera and Luiz Roberto plus Hortencia, Jurema, Gloria and Odaléa. Hortencia, Jurema and Gloria are sisters of Severino Filho and Ismael Neto. This is a unique orchestra LP selected by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronixers. Mr. D&C said wonders about this album yesterday at Loronix Forum. Actually, this is a Mr. D&C long time recommendation to zecalouro. My question about this LP, which is great indeed, is Marcos Samm itself. What happened with this singer that recorded two singles, this LP and had also some participations at the Brazilian festivals in 1969. Information about Marcos Samm seems to be not available anywhere, as far as I could search.

This is a kind of risk free release, there are here, together, two singers, a man and a woman and an anthological instrumental combo, this is Pery Ribeiro, Leny Andrade & Bossa Tres - Gemini V - Show na Boate Porao 73 (1965), for Odeon, considered by many the best Bossa Nova show from the 60's. For those who are used with Rio de Janeiro landscape, Boate Porao 73 is today Teatro Princesa Isabel, which is between Leme and Copacabana at Avenida Princesa Isabel.

Gemini V show lasts for more than one year on this Porao 73 nightclub and was produced by Miele and Ronaldo Boscoli with music direction by Luiz Carlos Vinhas. After this successful show, Gemini V left Brazil for a short stay in Mexico, recording the Mexican version of this concert called Gemini V in Mexico. Tracks include:

Rita Reys - Rita Reys Sings Antonio Carlos Jobim (1983)

Yesterday we had Maria Petersen from Denmark with Luiz Eca singing Bossa Nova, let's continue today with another female singer from Europe, now singing the Antonio Carlos Jobim repertoire; this is Rita Reys - Rita Reys Sings Antonio Carlos Jobim (1983). Rita Reys is from The Netherlands, known as Europe's First Lady of Jazz, she started her career 60 years ago and stills active, touring with combos or accompanied by orchestras around Europe.

Andrade sent this LP; he is a great Rita Reys fan. Andrade made all the hard work, cleaning his old vinyl, preparing the MP3s, cover and sending to zecalouro using the Send Files application. Who is your favorite Brazilian organist? Good question. Walter Wanderley is probably the favorite of many friends, for his international career, association with Bossa Nova, etc. However, we can never forget a true genius that did not have the chance of an international career and exposure, Waldir Calmon.

Waldir Calmon deserves a biographical book, his activity started in the late 30's, releasing his last recording in 1980. In the 40's, he was the first pianist that adopted the solovox, which is a kind of gadget that adapts the acoustic piano to make it sounds like an organ.
