Audio Challenge | Who sings these Antonio Carlos Jobim songs?

Mr. E. is always amazing us, thanks for this one Mr. E., one of the coolest challenges ever at Loronix and the first in a new category, the audio challenge. There are two Antonio Carlos Jobim songs on each video bellow, Eu Nao Existo sem Voce and Eu Sei que Eu Vou te Amar performed by two mysterious singers as they were a caipira or sertanejo duo.

The challenge is to identify the duo, who is singing Antonio Carlos Jobim on this funny way? I blend the music with Macaw videos just to entertain you while identifying the mysterious duo. Thanks once again Mr. E. this should be really amazing.

For Loronix friends outside of Brazil, they are singing Musica Caipira or Musica Sertaneja, which is a term from Brazilian country music.

Hope uEnjoy!

Cynara e Cybele - Cynara e Cybele (1968)

Hello, Good Evening! Yesterday was one of the days that I like most at Loronix, all releases were great and different to each other. I did not expect so many people amazed with Quarteto em Cy and Formula 7, mainly Formula 7, a repost. Anyway, as people feedback at comment section, Formula 7 had the participation of renowned musicians that still active today. Let's start the day very strong with a long time request by many Loronixers.

This is Cynara e Cybele - Cynara e Cybele (1968), for Columbia. This was requested since Loronix beginning, probably as the solo album of Cynara and Cybele from Quarteto em Cy and also for the participation of Dory Caymmi as arranger of all tracks, actually, there is an exception, Luiz Eça is in charge of track 07 arrangements, Januaria. Production is in charge of Helcio Milito. Tracks include:

01 - Pelas Ruas do Recife (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle / Novelli)

Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Samba e Bom Assim (1961)

This is a special post. I got this album from our Loronix friend Marcus Wagner, he gave it in my hands while we had been together at Drink Cafe to celebrate Loronix first year. Marcus Wagner is really nice, he has very good ideas in mind and they are all about Bossa Nova. Remember the last challenge with Johnny Alf, Edison Machado and Tiao Neto? That picture was taken from Marcus website, which is all about Bossa Nova pictures at http://bdbossa.blogspot.com.

Thanks Marcus, this is a pretty old Moacyr Silva album that I never heard about. Mr. E. had also an important participation on this post, making cover restoration to show it perfect to Loronixers. Mr. E. is giving distance-learning classes on image processing to zecalouro and I swear I will be a dedicated student.

This is Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Samba e Bom Assim (1961), for Copacabana. I crazy for Bob Fleming and Moacyr Silva participations on other artists albums, but nothing compares to Moacyr Silva solo album accompanied by Seu Conjunto. Thanks once again Marcus. Personnel is not credited this time, feel free to guest who was in the set, my best guess on piano is Chaim Lewak, who agrees or disagrees? Tracks include:

01 - Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)

03 - Ninguém Sabe de Nós (Moacyr Silva / Antonio Maria)

Formula 7 - Formula 7 Volume 2 (1968)

I always though about reposting this album one day and Caetano gave me in the last trip to Sao Paulo. The last one had a defective track and a low quality ripping. Now we have it on a really better shape and with everything in place including large size and high quality cover scans. I think nobody can miss this upgrade.

This is Formula 7 - Formula 7 Volume 2 (1968), for Parlophone. Formula 7 was assembled in 1965 by the Brazilian guitarist Helio Delmiro and was very active in the late 60's. They recorded four albums and their music was a fusion of Jazz, Rock, Psycho and Soul. This is their second album. Tracks include:

Quarteto em Cy - Antologia do Samba Cancao Volumes 1 & 2 (1975, 1976)

I cannot remember if I made a post with two albums of a same artist or group before, but I think this one worth this try, both albums are very connected with each other and splitting them would spoil a lot the listening pleasure. I would like to say thank you to everybody who helped zeca on making this post available, Helio Tavares was the fast fish, making the music available as soon as the request came from CBox, Marcello Montore for providing cover artwork and Caetano for building the network to make everything ready to Loronixers.

This is Quarteto em Cy - Antologia do Samba Cancao Volumes 1 & 2 (1975, 1976), both for Philips. These albums should definitively be released as a double LP, Quarteto em Cy makes a breathtaking rendition with meddley to several key Brazilian music figures, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Noel Rosa, Dorival Caymmi, Johnny Alf, Garoto among others. Quarteto em Cy has some kind of magic and their albums are always very successful at Loronix. I'm sure this one is not an exception. Tracks include:

Challenge | We want to know musicians and the nightclube they are playing

Challenge, very easy. We will need to identify musicians and the nightclub were the photo was taken... Who knows? Stay tuned, in an hour or so I will show much more about...

Hope uEnjoy!

Dick Farney e Claudette Soares - Dick & Claudette | Tudo Isto e Amor vol. 2 (1976)

I just spoke with Caetano by phone and he said the next package - a special and very different one - would be mailed tomorrow, first time in the morning. Tomorrow will be another day of tension on a day that seems to last 48 hours. Several other things are scheduled for tomorrow and I think it is better stop talking about it now before I spoil Caetano's surprise with my big tongue.

These phone calls are also useful to get recommendations from Caetano and this album was celebrated when mentioned, by the way, what can go wrong when you have Dick Farney and Claudette Soares together? I really don't know.

This is Dick Farney e Claudette Soares - Dick & Claudette | Tudo Isto e Amor Vol. 2 (1976), for Odeon, the second out of two albums released by Dick Farney in collaboration with Claudette Soares. This is not about Dick Farney piano accompanying Claudette Soares, they are singing together and the duets are beautiful, their voices and interpretation styles matches nicely. Personnel is not credited, but Dick Farney plays piano for sure and the legendary Saba from Jongo Trio is the executive producer. Tracks include:

01 - Chuva (Durval Ferreira / Pedro Camargo)
02 - Nós (Johnny Alf)

Os Originais do Samba - Pra que Tristeza (1976)

Hello, Good Evening! Closing another Samba weekend at Loronix I would like to show an album that will make even the day of those how never were in the mood of Samba. This album is part of my childhood and as a little parrot I could not evaluate how these guys are really great. Os Originais do Samba are really "professional", this album has nice vocal and instrumental arrangements and brings a tune that Brazilians will remember very fast. Let's see.

This is Os Originais do Samba - Pra que Tristeza (1974), for RCA Victor. Quimsy would say that Os Originais do Samba delivers an infectious Samba groove. I will only say that you will kick around the apartment, reaching the ceiling at some peaks. It is impossible to talk about this album with no mention to Tragedia no Fundo do Mar, this music was really a blockbuster by the release time. It has been a long time since my last hearing and I thought it was more accelerated, but it has smooth and nice arrangements by Maestro Elcio Alvares with direction in charge of Wilson Miranda. Tracks include:

01 - Saudade e Flores (Adeílton Alves / Nilton Pereira de Castro)
02 - Samba do "Arnesto" (Adoniran Barbosa / Alocin)
03 - Cabeça Que Não Tem Juízo (Aloísio)
04 - Tragédia no Fundo do Mar (Assassinato do Camarão) (Zeré / Ibrain)
05 - Pra Que Tristeza (Delcio Carvalho)
06 - Mulata Faceira (Martinho da Vila)
07 - Boato (Carlos Geraldo / B. J. Aroldo / Netinho)
08 - Canto de Amor (Delcio Carvalho / Barbosa da Silva)
09 - Buchicho (Luis Carlos / Murilo Penha "Bidi")
10 - Complicação (Murilo Penha "Bidi" / Mussum / Luis Carlos)
11 - Quem Me Dera (Beto Scala / São Beto)
12 - Não Sei de Nada (Wando)

Leny Andrade - Embraceable You (1991)

We saw many albums with the music from Brazil performed by non-Brazilian artists and now it is the time of making the opposite direction showing an album performed by a Brazilian artist with a repertoire of American standards. I think nobody can do it better than Leny Andrade.

This is Leny Andrade - Embreceable You (1991), for Som Livre, Leny Andrade delivers American Standards backed by a Bossa Nova combo featuring Joao Carlos Coutinho (piano, keyboards), Lucio Nascimento (bass), Adriano de Oliveira (drums) and Angelo Verploegen (flugelhorn).
