Lamartine Babo e Varios Artistas - As Mais Famosas Versoes (1960)

Hello, Good Evening! I was missing Copacabana label albums at Loronix, perhaps I got some addiction to them, last week we had a least one album by the powerful Copacabana, one of the greatest Brazilian labels from the 50's to 60's that unfortunately did not kept the good pace in the 70's. In spite of the constellation of renowned artists on the cast, Copacabana also released very creative compilations, celebration albums and tributes, exactly what we have here, an album blending various artists singing Brazilian versions of an international repertoire.

This is Lamartine Babo e Varios Artistas - As Mais Famosas Versoes (1960), for Copacabana, delivering another awesome cover artwork with this album directed by Lamartine Babo. I took a time to decide selecting Lamartine Babo as the main performer, but he performs a song, Tres Palavrinhas (Three Little Words) and is in charge of everything. Three Maestros were selected to make orchestra arrangements, Maestro Pachequinho, Guarana and Renato de Oliveira. Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Love Music (1973)

I had no option except showing Loronixers the album included on our last challenge. Sergio Mendes is really popular among Loronixers, several answers were posted as soon as the challenge was made available. Thanks everybody and thanks Beto Kessel, The Ambassador, the first to wrote the right answer. This album also ends my Sergio Mendes "graduation", and to summarize my findings I just want to say he is a really professional musician, in control of every aspect of his career with no fear of making changes when needed. Let's now see why people got so thrilled by the challenge.

This is Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Love Music (1973), for Bell. This is perhaps the first Sergio Mendes album with no Brazilian songs I see. I don't know if it is the only exception, but it seems to me that we have an effort to make Love Music a blockbuster, all songs are very popular, you will probably have the feeling that you heard everything before. This is certainly a transitional album to the further "pop" phase.

Love music is infectious from the start to end, the girl's vocals works very well and the percussion on top of the pop arrangements are also very nice. Personnel listing was already built on last challenge, but I will list it again, Brazil '77 features top-notch musicians. One last thing, don't let the cover - on a really bad shape, almost dissolving in my hands - cheat you, the vinyl was near mint and the sound is good. Tracks include:

Francis Hime - Francis Hime (1973)

The last sabadabada update brings a wonderful Samba Jazz album by a group called Os Seis em Ponto, lead by an artist never mentioned before at Loronix, Francis Hime. You should not miss Os Seis em Ponto at Sabadabada.com. In response, it is the time to check the acclaimed Francis Hime debut LP as main performer, one of Mr. D&C favorites.

This is Francis Hime - Francis Hime (1973), for Odeon. Francis Hime is a composer, arranger, singer and also classical composer that has written and performed symphonies. In this first LP, Francis Hime is in charge of arrangements and conduction with Aloysio de Oliveira on production direction and Maestro Lindolfo Gaya as musical director. III Festival da MPB - Rede Record, SP, Volume 1 (1967)

Hello, Good Evening! I received a hint from our very good Loronix friend David Simonetta, his idea was to show Loronixers music from the legendary MBP festivals from the 60's and videos with the performances, when available. I'm sure this idea will generate a really good series of daily posts. Let's take Davids suggestion starting with the first out of the three volume series taken from a 1967 Festival, let’s check.

Milton Banana Trio - O Som do Milton Banana Trio (1967)

JimR is a great Loronixer that acts like an Ambassador, inviting new friends everyplace he goes. He is also pretty organized. JimR left a post at Loronix Forum with his most wanted list. The list has been a guide to zecalouro and there is a nice game between us, on each album from his list made available at Loronix, JimR goes there and erase it. I'm now pleased to inform that JimR should make his final erase, the anonymous contributor made it.

This is Milton Banana Trio - O Som do Milton Banana Trio (1967), for Odeon. This is the creator of Bossa Nova drumming style at this peak, Milton Banana, Joao Gilberto favorite drummer. Personnel listing is not available this time and I could not search successfully. I will hear some clicks and clacks at the end of track 06 and a FLAC file with no noise reduction is on the way. Trio Maraya - Trio Maraya (1966)

Sorry, a last minute technical problem jeopardized the second release provided by that massive contribution made today. But do not worry, Loronix engineers are already working on the third, a truly awesome album requested by several friends at Loronix. Meanwhile, I think we cannot go wrong with this album that makes me feel very proud, a sought after piece by several collectors gave to me as a friendly gift by Caetano Rodrigues.

This is Trio Maraya - Trio Maraya (1966), for Som Maior. I always heard about Trio Maraya as a Samba Jazz trio, such like, Bossa Tres and others, actually they are a blend of Bossa Nova combo with regional music from Brazil Northeast. Trio Maraya also delivers consistent vocal arrangements. Caetano said this album was hunted by everybody a couple of years ago and continues listed with very high prices in auction sites. Ely Arcoverde can be considered member number "four" of Trio Maraya, playing piano, organ and in charge of all instrumental arrangements. Hermeto Pascoal also takes the role of flute player on tracks 02, 04 and 08. Let's feedback Trio Maraya, so we can understand better why this album is on the wish list of every collector. Os Velhinhos Transviados - Barbaros... (1964)

Hello, Good Evening! I'm really proud of our community and Loronixers today. I received by mail a donation of almost fifth LPs for Loronix. Some of them are already available and will be used for updates as needed during this second year. In the other hand, others are really missing pieces on our collection and today we will have three picks taken from this amazing donation to our community. Let's start with the first, one of the favorite of Loronixers.

This is Os Velhinhos Transviados - Barbaros... (1964), for RCA Victor. Above the average album delivered by Jose Meneses, which is Os Velhinhos Transviados founder and leader. The cover artwork is perhaps the best one I have seen from this group that always makes nice covers based on comic situations. The contribution came from someone that asked to not be identified, not associated with any nickname and not mentioned on her albums posts, except today, the first day. Anyway, the important is that we have nice music ahead, stay tuned. Tracks include:

Announcement | Sabadabada.com is now updated!

This is just to announce an upgrade of sabadabada.com, the legendary and pioneer website that promotes Brazilian music for many years. The upgrade has something special to Loronix, sabadabada folks seems to be really crazy friends, they created a mascot to sabadabada.com, which I proudly introduces to Loronixers, meet "zeca chapado". I don't have any idea what sabadabada friends have in mind to come up with this name, but it is a great honor that sabadabada adopted a parrot as mascot with the same name of zeca.

MPB-4 / Quarteto em Cy - Cobra de Vidro (1978)

Today posts were not planned and it was one of the days that I like most. Non-planned days produces nice outcomes, for instance, no instrumental music today, also, a nice harmonization of three albums to Loronixers, we started with a female singer, Neusa Maria, made a male singer in the middle, Joao Bosco and the close blends boys and girls, MPB-4 and Quarteto em Cy performing together. Isn't that great? Well, I think it is.

This is MPB-4 / Quarteto em Cy - Cobra de Vidro (1976), for Philips. I don't know if our Quarteto em Cy consultant Mr. G. has Cobra de Vidro among his favorites, if not, I think Mr. G. should consider as one of the best from now on. Cobra de Vidro has several different situation, such as: the best Because (Lennon / McCartney) rendition I have ever heard, two wonderful "instrumental" songs using voices as instruments, Noites Cariocas (Jacob do Bandolim) and Fuga (Heitor Villa Lobos) and a Guarania with Spanish lyrics Me Gustan Los Estudiantes (Violetta Parra). I don't have idea of the popularity and availability of this album in Brazil and worldwide, perhaps this should be a wonderful surprise to Loronixers. Tracks include:
