Quinteto de Dalton - O Melhor da Festa (1959)

Hello, Good Evening! We are starting the day with an album that I was not taking in consideration to Loronix. I was not confident on showing an artist credited only as Dalton. However, a Google search for another artist made a reference to a page inside All Music (one of the greatest music portal at the Internet), showing a biography about Dalton, which is in fact Dalton Vogeler, grandson of the conductor Henrique Vogeler and son of the violinist Carlos Vogeler Gomes.

It is amazing that AMG brings a biography of an pretty obscure musician such like Dalton Vogeler. He recorded only two LPs in the late 50's, being a very active musician in 60's, playing his sax and bass on many nightclubs, being also sideman of renowned musicians. Let's see.

This is Quinteto de Dalton - O Melhor da Festa (1959), for International, featuring the sax of Dalton Vogeler with other four not credited musicians of his quintet. I recommend that you take a time to read Dalton Voleger in AMG, meanwhile, stay with O Melhor da Festa and Quinteto de Dalton. Tracks include:

01 - Beija-me (Roberto Martins / Mário Rossi)
02 - Mistura Fina (Luis Bandeira)
03 - Fascination (F. D. Marchetti)
04 - Who's Sorry Now (T. Snyder / B. Kalmar / H. Ruby)
05 - Quando Anoitece (Waldemar Gomes / Cícero Nunes)
06 - Brigas Nunca Mais (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 - Accarezzame (P. Calvi / Nisa)
08 - Nalani (A. Kaleolani)
09 - Perfume de Gardênia (R. Hernandez)
10 - Sin Ti (Pepe Guizar)
11 - Recado (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
12 - Triste Fim (Carlos S. Lima / Jaime Storino)

Elizeth Cardoso - Retrato da Noite (1958)

This is a mandatory repost of a really important album to Loronix, released in the very beginning of our community. This post made me understand what exactly I could make with Loronix and what would be the website in the future. However, this is not only personal matters, this LP is truly awesome and everything works fine here. Strongly recommended for those who did not find it on archives yet or those ones who wants to revisit this album with major music and artwork improvements.

This is Elizeth Cardoso - Retrato da Noite (1958), for Copacabana. Little is know about this session and this is really disappointing. Elizeth is backed by a "Conjunto" with no credit to musicians. The guys from Copacabana did not care with technical information on releases. In the other hand, they were masters on cover artworks, look at this one, Elizeth Cardoso challenges us in front of a drink with diminished lights and wearing a red dressing in the same color of the red rose. Who can resist? Tracks include:

01 - Madame Fulano de Tal (Aliança) (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz)
02 - Pela Estrada (Nanai)
03 - E a Chuva Parou (Ribamar (1) / Esdras Pereira da Silva / Victor Freire)
04 - Cansei de Ilusões (Tito Madi)
05 - Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)
06 - Bom Dia Tristeza (Adoniran Barbosa / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 - Neste Mesmo Lugar (Armando Cavalcanti / Klécius Caldas)
08 - Por Acaso (Nanai / César Tedim)
09 - Prece (Vadico / Marino Pinto)
10 - Sou Igual a Você (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Nazareno de Brito)
11 - Conselho Inútil (Miguel Gustavo)
12 - Contra-senso (Antônio Bruno)

Lina Pesce - Concerto em Ritmo (1963)

Let's make a very different Para Dancar release today, pretty sophisticated by the way, featuring a Brazilian pianist and composer never introduced to Loronixers. I'm talking about Lina Pesce, perhaps the beautiful woman on this great cover artwork, but I'm not sure of it. Lina Pesce and Carolina Cardoso de Menezes are very similar artists, with Carolina being more identified as an instrumentalist while Lina Pesce as composer. Let's see.

This is Lina Pesce - Concerto em Ritmo (1963), for Columbia, featuring orchestra with direction by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli. The second album recorded by Lina Pesce for Columbia, being the first dedicated to Lina Pesce compositions and Concerto em Ritmo, Lina Pesce renditions to classic music in Para Dancar style, both albums with orchestra directed by Lyrio Panicalli. I'm tracking down the first, it will be nice to hear Lina Pesce piano and Lyrio Panicalli orquestra playing Lina Pesce repertoire. Tracks include:

01 - Balada Nº 2 (Franz Liszt)
02 - Panorama (De "A Bela Adormecida") (Tchaikovsky)
03 - Tema (De "Rapsódia Sobre Um Tema de Paganini") (Rachmaninoff)
04 - Tema do Concerto Em Mi Menor Op 11 (Frederic Chopin)
05 - Valsa (De "O Lago dos Cisnes") (Tchaikovsky)
06 - Tema de "Giselle" (Adam)
07 - Estudo Nº 12 Em Dó Menor Op 10 Nº 12 (Revolucionário) (Frederic Chopin)
08 - Valsa Nº 2 Em Lá Bemol Maior Op 34 Nº 1 (Frederic Chopin)
09 - Adágio (De "A Bela Adormecida") (Tchaikovsky)
10 - Tema de "Don Quixote" (Minkus)
11 - Estudo Em Mi Maior Op 10 Nº 3 (Frederic Chopin)
12 - Valsa Nº 10 Em Si Menor Op 69 Nº 2 (Frederic Chopin)

Os Cariocas - 78rpm | Continental 15893 (1948)

I think friends are getting used as I'm used to these 78rpm releases, original scheduled to be a once in a week feature and now part of daily Loronix business as usual. It is very nice to show these albums and also very easy. As we are starting, there is always an opportunity to show a never released artist in the format and I'm trying to make only great names at this beginning, such as Os Cariocas.

This is Os Cariocas - 78rpm | 15893 (1948), for Copacabana, a very old record featuring on side A, Nova Ilusao and a classic tune on side B, Adeus America. I think this one will be the most popular among the 78-rpm released so far. Tracks include:

01 - Noa Ilusao (Jose Menezes / Luiz Bittencourt)
02 - Adeus America (Geraldo Jacques / Haroldo Barbosa)

Boca Livre - Bicicleta (1980)

Hello, Good Evening! This is the second album by the Brazilian vocal group Boca Livre, a great improvement of what they have accomplished on their debut LP. Bicicleta has a better production and a very special guest on two tracks, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Let's see.

This is Boca Livre - Bicicleta (1980), such as the first release, this album is an independent production, with no formal recording company association. Perhaps this is the reason for not receiving so far a CD reissue. I have this album since the release date and I got very surprised this week when notice Antonio Carlos Jobim participation. The Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcellos is credited as percussion direction and probably delivers percussion playing. My highlights are Antonio Carlos Jobim participation (both indicated on track list) and the song that gives the album title, Bicicleta, with a beautiful vocal arrangement. Tracks include:

Personnel

David Tygel
(viola, violao, vocal)
Jose Renato
(violao, vocal)
Mauricio Maestro
(bass, violao, viola, vocal, instrumental and vocal arrangements)
Lourenco Baeta
(violao, viola, vocal, flute, violin)

Track List

07 - Saci (Paulo Jobim / Ronaldo Bastos) with Antonio Carlos Jobim
08 - Passarinho (Lourenço Baeta)
09 - "Boi do Maranhão" - Urrou do Boi (Tradicional) - Boi do Pindaré (Tradicional) - Boi Danado (Sergio Habibe)
10 - Arado (Dalmo Medeiros)
11 - Nossa Dança (Danilo Caymmi / Ana Terra)

Fats Elpidio - Samba da Madrugada (1962)

Let's check this repost of one of the albums that I like most at Loronix, featuring Fats Elpidio, a renowned Brazilian pianist that makes some different of what we are used to hear, he plays organ on this release. Everything is improved with this repost, from cover artworks to the music, including the FLAC alternative. Fats Elpidio performs a repertoire of Sambas and the arrangements are in charge of the great Maestro Nelsinho. I will keep part of my original text bellow.

This is Fats Elpidio e Seu Conjunto - Samba da Madrugada (1962), for Masterplay, featuring Fats Elpidio at the piano and a combo, with non-credited musicians. This Fats Elpidio work is pretty different from the last one, much more swinging and dedicated to Samba rhythms with organ playing. Tracks include:

01 - Gamação (João Roberto Kelly)
02 - Dá Uma Surra Nela (Fernando Costa / Rossini Pinto)
03 - Tamanco no Samba (Orlann Divo / Hélton Menezes)
04 - Gosto de Você de Graça (João Roberto Kelly)
05 - Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 - Na Cadência do Samba (Ataulfo Alves / Paulo Gesta)
07 - Samba da Madrugada (Dora Lopes / Carminha Mascarenhas / Herotides)
08 - Volta Por Cima (Paulo Vanzolini)
09 - Na Roda do Samba (Orlann Divo / Hélton Menezes)
10 - Vertical (Orlann Divo / Roberto Jorge)
11 - Seu Amor (Silvio Viana)
12 - História (Nilo Sergio)

Angela Maria - Sucessos de Angela Maria Nr. 3

Today I spent a time with my mother; she was desperately waiting for a new and fresh album by Angela Maria. That's what I did; I took Angela Maria - Angela Maria em Tempo Jovem - not available at Loronix yet - receiving back this 10-inch compilation that she had the chance to find near her place. Mom is a great finder, but she finds only her favorites. It's wise of her. Anyway, I have express orders to make it available today and I never use to ignore Mom's request.

This is Angela Maria - Sucessos de Angela Maria Nr. 3 (no date), for Copacabana. This was probably released in the late 50's. As a compilation of previous released material, it is possible to identify the release date. However, it demands a lot of work and Mom said it does not matter. Angela Maria is backed by orchestra in most of the tracks and the exceptions, Betinho e Seu Conjunto and Orquestra do Sindicato dos Musicos Profissionais do Rio de Janeiro are indicated on track list. Tracks include:

01 - Mentindo (Eduardo Patane / Lourival Faissal)
02 - A Chuva Caiu (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Luiz Bonfa) (1)
03 - Fantasma da Felicidade (Silvino Netto)
04 - Alegoria ao Musico (Cyro Monteiro / Dias da Cruz) (2)
05 - Parte (Betinho / Heitor Carilo)
06 - Moral da Historia (Betinho / Heitor Carilo)
07 - Fel (Betinho / Heitor Carilo) (1)
08 - Inspiracao (Bruno Marnet)

(1) Betinho e Seu Conjunto
(2) Orquestra do Sindicato dos Musicos Profissionais do Rio de Janeiro

Jose Luciano - Jose Luciano, Seu Piano, Seu Ritmo (1957)

Hello, Good Evening! Yesterday I was talking about statistics, numbers and how this parrot was a big fan of these things. I think I'm not alone on this. There is a page view counter on Loronix right sidebar that reached 1,000,000 page views today. I was not home and by the time I arrived, my mailbox was full of congratulations messages for such thing. Thanks, it is nice how friends like these numbers, specially Martoni, on a way I don't know how could capture the exact time the counter was showing 1,000,000. Thanks, Martoni, your screen capture is now part of my gallery.

Anyway, the show must go on and I want to start today addressing many requests from the fans of Para Dancar style, they complain that I did not release the style in the last days. Let's see.

This is Jose Luciano - Jose Luciano, Seu Piano, Seu Ritmo (1957), for Copacabana, the first out of three albums released by the Brazilian pianist Jose Luciano for Copacabana titled "Seu Piano, Seu Ritmo". The first thing that comes to my mind when looking at this album and this cover artwork is to understand how such, how can I say, "sexy" cover is released in 1957. You should agree that this girl is really ahead of the "standards" of that time. Jose Luciano performs a repertoire of Sambas based on Brazilian and international standards. Tracks include:

01 - Tarde Demais (José Luciano)
02 - Conceição (Jair Amorim / Dunga)
03 - Love Is a Many Splendored Thing (Paul Francis Webster / S. Fain)
04 - Pois É (Ataulfo Alves)
05 - Crepúsculo de Amor (Vicente Paiva / Lita Rodrigues)
06 - Teus Olhos Entendem os Meus (Haroldo Eiras / Victor Berbara)
07 - Brasília (José Luciano / Mário Flávio) - Amar Outra Vez (M. Stoloff / G. Sidney)
08 - Quintandinha (Djalma Ferreira)
09 - So In Love (Cole Porter)
10 - Canção da Volta (Antônio Maria / Ismael Netto)
11 - Dancing In The Dark (A. Schwartz / H. Dietz)
12 - Dó-ré-mi (Fernando César)
13 - Sinfonia Verde Amarelo (Pernambuco)

Maria Creuza - Maria Creuza (1972)

I'm a statistics driven parrot. I spend a time browsing numbers. I love these things. I like to see the numbers and understand what we have behind them. Maria Creuza is a special case, in spite of no explicit feedback from Loronixers, her albums are downloaded by many friends, above the average of others. Perhaps it is her participation on La Fusa with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho, I don't know. Anyway, this is in response of the great feedback given to Maria Creuza, let's see.

This is Maria Creuza - Maria Creuza (1972), for RGE. I was used with Maria Creuza releases for RCA and had a great difficult on finding info about this one. RCA Victor uses to enclose personnel information and sometimes even associates musicians with their participation on each track. You will see with the music that RGE do not give any kind of information, on back cover. That's why personnel is not credited this time, except by the participation of Sebastiao Tapajos, information available on both Side A and B labels. Tracks include:

01 - De Onde Vens (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
02 - Você Já Foi à Bahia (Dorival Caymmi)
03 - Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
04 - Queixas (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi)
05 - João Valentão (Dorival Caymmi)
06 - Mas Que Doidice (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi)
07 - Ossain (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi / Tavares)
08 - Foi a Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
09 - Morena Flor (Toquinho / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 - Carinhoso (Pixinguinha / João de Barro)
11 - Insensatez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 - Você Abusou (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi)

Lucio Alves - 78rpm | Continental 16995 (1954)

I was not planning another 78rpm today, but when I decided to check the options available and Lucio Alves came to my hand, I could not resist. Anyway, Lucio Alves performs with orchestra lead by Severino Araujo two songs, Valsa de uma Cidade (Antonio Maria / Ismael Neto) and Velho Amor (Lourenco Leonardo / Olavo Bertoni). Tracks include:

01 - Valsa de Uma Cidade (Antonio Maria / Ismael Neto)
02 - Velho Amor (Lourenco Leonardo / Olavo Bertoni)
