Hello, good evening! I've been receiving messages with compliments and suggestions on the new features implemented at Loronix during the last weeks. I would like to thank everyone who wrote and also thank the whole community for making available our dedicated server with donations last year. Without this dedicated Linux box, all these features would not be viable. I believe Loronix is the only blog to have a dedicated server, which is something that makes me feel really proud and confident in our future. I swear to prepare a message tomorrow to clarify what are these new features and how to get the most from their use. This is only the beginning and the work will be hard in the next months, but it is a very rewarding job.

Finally, part of this work is to visit again all old posts, which is something I do only in situations like this. I do not read download statistics, but they reveal some very interesting things, such as popularity of Beth Carvalho in our community. I believe this release would please many friends. Let's see.

Beth Carvalho dedicates this record to Nelson Cavaquinho and Guilherme de Brito. Tapecar releases in the mid 1970's are always worth checking, especially if you like Samba. Marcos Valle - Marcos Valle (1970)

Hello, good evening! This is one of the most requested albums throughout the short Loronix existence, especially in the first six months. My hopes of having this album in our collection were minimal and I believe that everybody understood across time the situation would not easily change from one hour to another. However, there is a network of collaborators around us, able to make surprises at any time. One of the most amazing collaborators strikes again, AdHoc, directly from the European winter to the warm winds of Rio de Janeiro and here for all Marcos Valle's fans around the world. This is Marcos Valle - Marcos Valle (1970), for Odeon, featuring Marcos Valle and Paulo Sergio Valle compositions on an album that seems to be a transition from the 1960s Bossa Nova to the more pop oriented sound made by Marcos Valle in the beginning of the 1970s. AdHoc says the Brazilian group Som Imaginario is in this session, which is something we can easily realize by hearing track 09 - Suite Imaginaria (Marcos Valle). Eduardo Gudin - Coracao Marginal (1978)

Hello, good evening! Maysa Matarazzo TV Globo's special continues dropping new friends at Loronix. Since the show started, we are receiving an average of additional 1,000 new visitors daily. It is a very interesting phenomenon. People watch TV and use the Internet to get additional information about Maysa. I think most of these new friends will visit Loronix regularly after the end of the show; they have something in common with us, the music from Brazil.

I have been receiving requests of new albums by Maysa, unfortunately, the ones I have are commercially available and I cannot make them. Anyway, Maysa is available at Loronix archives and you can use Find It! or the new widget -- in your right at Loronix side bar -- to reach them.

Good. The music today comes from the 1970's decade, courtesy of a very important Brazilian artist that never had an album available at Loronix. Let's see.

This is Eduardo Gudin - Coracao Marginal (1978), for Continental, featuring the Brazilian singer and composer Eduardo Gudin performing his own compositions. Eduardo Gudin is active since 1968, at 16, invited by Elis Regina to perform at her O Fino da Bossa TV show. Since them, Eduardo Gudin compositions were recorded by renowned Brazilian artists such as Dick Farney, Paulinho da Viola, Elizeth Cardoso, Beth Carvalho, Clara Nunes and many others. Coracao Marginal brings Eduardo Gudin backed by that constellation of Brazilian musicians as every good album recorded in Brazil at the 1970's. Maestro Jose Briamonte is in charge of arrangements and the session features legends like Milton Banana, Neco, Wilson das Neves, Dino 7 Cordas, Nelsinho and others. Doris Monteiro - Agora (1976)

In the very first beginning of Loronix, Doris Monteiro was a real fever among friends discovering her music for the first time and also friends having the chance of hear her records again. Sombras says Doris Monteiro first record is a 78RPM released by Todamerica in 1951 and she remains in plenty activity, releasing albums and performing live. It is a great pleasure to bring Doris Monteiro back to Loronix first page. Let's see.

Zimbo Trio - Zimbo (1976)

Hello, good evening! Loronix received many new visitors today. Everything started at 10p.m. when we had on a single hour more than 300 visits, above the 120 average of a Monday evening. I had a lot of work to identify the reason, what was driving new people to Loronix late at night. The answer came from the analysis of the referral logs; everybody was using Google, mainly Google Image Search to find pictures of Maysa Matarazzo. TV Globo started today a novel based at Maysa career, directed by Maysa son's Jayme Monjardim. Immediately, I started digging my collection after an album recorded by Maysa, but I could not make it today. In the other hand, I found this one sleeping on a very hard to reach part of my wardrobe and it was very nice to hear it after three years, since it was made available in the middle of 2006. Let's see.

This is Zimbo Trio - Zimbo (1976), for RGE, featuring the special guests Hector Costita and Heraldo do Monte. Even if you already have the first Loronix issue you should take this one in consideration. The cover has now a hi-res scan, including the back cover and the music has a new transfer, including the alternative FLAC files. My favorite track is the opening 01 - Fe Cega, Faca Amolada (Milton Nascimento / Ronaldo Bastos), but as a 19Mb track, I could not make it available at Loronix Preview Center. 04 - Vai de Aracaju (Rubens Barssotti) is available there and it is also a really nice choice. Sergio Ricardo e Glauber Rocha - Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (1964)

Hi again! Two posts in a single day and both have connections. Although we have music, this is all about a movement among Brazilian filmmakers in the 1950's and 1960's known as Cinema Novo. This is the original soundtrack of probably the most famous film from Cinema Novo, featuring Sergio Ricardo and the acclaimed filmmaker Glauber Rocha. There is a very interesting statement about Cinema Novo, "Uma camera na mao e uma ideia na cabeca" ("a camera in the hand and an idea in the had"), which is an adequate description of the movement, which main topics included Brazilian poverty using the Northeast region as setting for the productions. Let's see.

This is Sergio Ricardo e Glauber Rocha - Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (1964), for Forma, with music by Sergio Ricardo and Glauber Rocha, production by Roberto Quartin and speeches by the actors Othon Bastos and Geraldo Del Rey. Glauber Rocha also wrote the back cover liner notes and he mentions the legendary Grande Otelo singing a Ze Ketti's Samba Magoa de Sambista at Nelson Pereira dos Santos film "Rio Zona Norte" from 1957. Vinicius de Moraes - Vinicius de Moraes (1959)

Hello, Happy New Year! I want to open this year with something different and also unique. It is not music, but poetry, written and spoken by one of the greatest Brazilian artists from the last century, Vinicius de Moraes. According with Sombras, this little EP was released in 1959; I could not find this information inspecting the cover, as well the record label. Anyway, this is one of the first albums recorded by Vinicius de Moraes as main performer. Let's see.

Dorival Caymmi - The Voice and Guitar of Dorival Caymmi (1960)

Hello, good evening! I would like to a Happy New Year to the whole Loronix community and also say THANK YOU for the support and dedication you give to Loronix since May 2006. Thanks once again.

2008 was a special year; however, it was also the year that Dorival Caymmi left us. Thus, I would like to leave 2008 with Dorival Caymmi and this beautiful cover featuring a beautiful panting to send positive vibrations to everybody. This is the US Capitol issue of Odeon's Dorival Caymmi - Eu Nao Tenho Onde Morar (1960), with arrangements by Maestro Lindolpho Gaya. I will keep my original text. Let's see.

We probably know these tunes through other artists’ interpretation and now it is time to hear how they perform with Dorival Caymmi, who says the only artist that makes definitive versions of his music is Joao Gilberto. Hello, good evening! I said yesterday that I would be breaking today the series of posts from the 1970's decade with something very old. I'm paying my bill with the oldest album I could find here, from 1955. I love the records made by Musidisc in the 1950's. The artwork is ahead of that time and was probably made by a single person since the style is unique and very easy to identify.

Milton Nascimento - Journey to Dawn (1979)

Hello, good evening! I had the feeling that something should be different while preparing this post. But I only understood what was causing this worry a few minutes ago. It was very easy to realize, just look at the last 7 albums and you will see they were released in the 1970's, a big coincidence. I'm now missing the music from previous decades, which are the contributions I like most, for several reasons.

I swear that tomorrow this sequence is interrupted, if possible with something quite old, from the 1950s. Anyway, these are details when we have a record by Milton Nascimento, a good choice to start the last week of 2008. Let's see.

This is Milton Nascimento - Journey to Dawn (1979), for A&M, recorded in the US, featuring Milton Nascimento backed by renowned Brazilian and American musicians. I had a great time with this album today, when I had the chance to hear for the first time.
