Eduardo Costa & Fernando Martins - Uma Noite no 706 (1977)

This is an amazing Samba LP that was first released by the legendary Quimsy at http://quimsy.blogspot.com and now made available to Loronixers through a new ripping from zecalouro vinyl collection. I though this album was piano bar music, since I arrived late to Quimsy and did not find the link active, for my surprise, this is a very nice Samba performance featuring two organists, Eduardo Costa and Conjunto on Side A and Fernando Martins and Conjunto on Side B. Let's see.

This is Eduardo Costa & Fernando Martins - Uma Noite no 706 (1977), for Philips, recorded live at 706 nightclub in Rio de Janeiro. Eduardo Costa and Fernando Martins perform a repertoire of Samba, delivering groovy organ sounds. Several crooners were in the set, they are: Aurea Martins, Angela, Dora, Marcio Jose, Leila and Sally Baldwin. Track 10 - Adeus America has a special participation of 706 nightclub staff of waiters accompanying Fernando Martins on a choir. You cannot miss this one. Tracks include:

The Pop's - Agora e Samba (1968)

Hello, Good Evening! Starting another sAmBa sAtUrDaY at Loronix, actually, continuing the sAmBa sAtUrDaY started earlier by Justin with Jorginho do Imperio - Viagem Encantada (1975). There is a healthful competition between Justin and zecalouro to find out which website delivers the most solid Samba LP. zecalouro always loose for Justin, but who wins are Loronixers and Justin Thymers, who gets the most from both websites.

We are starting today mixing instrumental Rock and Samba with this crazy and very groovy album recorded by The Pop's. Someone shouted for The Pop's, so here we go.

Marilia Medalha - Marilia Medalha (1968)

Here we go on an artist that really deserves more attention. Her first and only album available at Loronix was of a great success and I think this one will be really appreciated by Loronix. Marilia Medalha had a great start in the late 60's, recording some albums, being an active participant on Festivais da Cancao also performing on TV shows, such as the legendary Ensaio Geral for TV Excelsior.

This is Marilia Medalha - Marilia Medalha (1968), for Philips, featuring arrangements by Maestro Rogerio Duprat and a participation of Edu Lobo as special guest on track 05 - Memorias de Marta Saré, which is the song Marilia Medalha got the second prize on Festival de Musica Popular Brasileira, 1968 edition. This is all I know about this album, which Maria Medalha delivers a sweet blend of Samba with Bossa Nova. Tracks include:

Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha - Gaucho (1953)

This is the second LP from the last set of 10-inch contributions and it is probably the one that I like most, featuring Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha and their first album, recorded in 1953. I could only identify Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha today, since the cover does not bring the main performer name, only the album title. Let's see.

This is Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha - Gaucho (1953), for Radio, featuring arrangements by Aldo Taranto. Lead by Tasso Bangel, Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha started in 1948 at Radio Farroupilha, a radio station in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Later, they removed the Vocal from the group name and released more than 15 albums on a recording career that spanned three decades. Tracks include:

Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso (1971)

This is the natural, although not scheduled, continuation to yesterday's Gilberto Gil album. Our friend Dianod just left a comment on Gilberto Gil's album asking for more Tropicalia albums and MPB albums from the 70's. I would love to make them once in a while, but these albums are still available commercially, being the last Gilberto Gil and now Caetano Veloso as the exceptions.

First thing, I'm a great fan of Caetano Veloso and I've been waiting for the right opportunity to release one of his solo albums at Loronix. I'm glad this day has come, this is not Caetano's masterpiece, but it is a very important album for Caetano's career from a historical standpoint. Recorded in England, Caetano really demonstrate his feelings, starting by this fantastic cover artwork where Caetano shows his soul, the sadness of being away from home, expelled by the authorities in 1969.

This is Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso (1971), for Philips, also known as "A Little More Blue" or "London, London" album. Caetano Veloso makes quite a "departure" from the things of Brazil, delivering English lyrics in all songs, being the last "Asa Branca" the only exception. My highlights are from 01 - A Little More Blue, 03 - Maria Bethania and 04 - If You Hold a Stone. Anyway, the album is solid from the start to end and has that not easy blend of sadness and beauty. Let's feedback this release as Loronixers did in the last Gilberto Gil LP. Tracks include:

Quarteto de Alberto Mota - Quarteto de Alberto Mota (1963)

Here we go on another Caetano Rodrigues selection from his last set of contributions. This time, Caetano was in charge of making the pick of the day among his albums and I think he could not make better than bringing back this legendary musician from the Amazon region, city of Belem do Para, which is Alberto Mota and his quartet.

This is Quarteto de Alberto Mota - Quarteto de Alberto Mota (1963), for Polydor. I would like to dedicate this album to a special friend, Joaquim Paes Henriques and his grandson Betho Henriques. Joaquim Paes Henrique is the drummer of this session, he recently found the albums he recorded with Alberto Mota at Loronix and is pleased by the opportunity to her his music again after a long time. Joaquim Paes Henriques has 72 years. It is always amazing when Loronix can bring back such good memories for Brazilian musicians. Tracks include:

Edu da Gaita - Edu (1953)

Hello, Good Evening! Starting today with a major acquisition to Loronix community, which is the legendary Brazilian harmonica player Edu da Gaita debut LP on Radio, recorded in 1953. I said before that I'm a great enthusiast of the 10-inch format. The 8 tracks and the average running time of 20 minutes always deliver solid listens. Loronix received a nice contribution in this format and we will start showing friends today.

This is Edu da Gaita - Edu (1953), for Radio, featuring Edu da Gaita harmonica with arrangements and orchestra conduction by Alexandre Gnattali, brother of the Brazilian Maestro Radames Gnattali. I think we spoke a lot about Edu da Gaita in an early album at Loronix. You can hear at Edu da Gaita official website his rendition to Moto Perpetuo of Paganini, he spent eleven years practicing this song before making public, here. Tracks include:

This is truly amazing, Gilberto Gil second LP recorded in the crazy year of 1968 for Philips, featuring Os Mutantes and arrangements by Maestro Rogerio Duprat. This is *the* self-explanatory release. The Beatles - Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1968), had a great influence on me and probably on Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso as you can see by this fantastic cover artwork, with references to The Beatles cover. I hope Mr. Gil will be pleased to see his album here. Loronixers will be amazed by this release. Let's see.

This is Gilberto Gil - Gilberto Gil (1968), for Philips. Little is known about musicians in this session, except by the participation of Os Mutantes, giving some 60's rock influences to overall experience. Maestro Rogerio Duprat orchestrations, blended with Os Mutantes electric guitars is worth checking. The repertoire features well-known Gilberto Gil songs with highlights to Procissao, Domingo no Parque, Ela Falava Nisso Todo Dia, among others. I urge Loronixers to feedback this release, so we can evaluate the response to late 60's Tropicalia releases. Tracks include:

K-Ximbinho - Saudades de um Clarinete (1981)

If you take this album for a listen, I'm sure you will agree with me, it is a masterpiece, even if you do not appreciate the Choro genre. It was released in September 2006 and probably did not get much attention of the new Loronixers. I was not satisfied with the quality of the first issue, based on 96Kbps MP3s and now we have cover scans -- front and back, personnel listing, 320Kbps and FLAC files alternative. This artist really deserves the attention of every serious Brazilian music listener.

This is K-Ximbinho - Saudades de um Clarinete (1981), for Eldorado, featuring the legendary Sebastiao de Barros, widely known as K-Ximbinho. Paulo Moura says K-Ximbinho was the most original instrumentalist in service of Choro, Jazz and Regional music in Brazil, being also a composer and arranger. This album was recorded just before K-Ximbinho passing and I have been tracking down the previous ones for a year. They were released in the late 50's and early 60's.
