Hello, good afternoon! I want to take advantage of an available time to fill this sunny Friday afternoon with music provided by my mother. The only issue of a post made on such extraordinary time of the day is the lack of research. Little I know about this IV Festival Internacional da Cancao, except the nice performers we have inside and the nice tunes they perform. I don’t have idea if there is a whole Odeon series with all these Festival Internacional da Cancao concerts and if there are also albums featuring the international performers, not only the Brazilian artists. Let’s see.

This is IV Festival Internacional da Cancao (1969), for Odeon, featuring Brazilian performers, including two Samba divas performing Bossa Nova in their earlier years, Clara Nunes and Beth Carvalho, and important artists, such like Marcos Valle, Antonio Adolfo & A Brazuca, Taiguara, Eva, Goden Boys and the nice vocal group Quarteto Forma.

O Grupo - O Grupo (1968)

Hello, Good Night! Promising night by the way, as the nights with Caetano's music uses to be. The daily plan has already been established by a phone call with Caetano Rodrigues. Covers are photographed, music is ready, zecalouro is dreaming and I'm really excited to start the posts of the day. Nothing can be stopping me today, no refrigerator, no photo issues, nothing. This is O Grupo - O Grupo (1968), for Odeon. Four boys making vocalizes with the support of top-notch arrangers. I spoke with Caetano to gather more information of this group; Caetano said that this record is probably the first and only album released by O Grupo. Perhaps Odeon considered O Grupo a great promise, putting the best team of arrangers to work with O Grupo. Five Maestros were on the set, each one collaborating individually on given tracks. They are represented on track list. O Grupo is a quartet, featuring Roberval, Raimundo, Jaime e Maurício. Tracks include:

Antonio Adolfo & Grupo No em Pingo D'Agua - Joao Pernambuco | 100 Anos (1983)h

Hello, good evening! This is a very important post that brings to Loronix a musician that I never had the chance to speak about. It is also important to say we are only getting in touch with this musician with the help of Jorge Mello that kindly made available this album to Loronix, directly from his amazing collection. I have been wondering today how many friends from Loronix community had the chance to know the works of Joao Pernambuco, considered by many one of the fathers, if not the father of the Brazilian violao.

Joao Pernambuco was born in 1883 and his work as an instrumentalist is only available by 78 RPMs recorded in the 1920’s decade. But his legacy and his contribution to Brazilian music remain n strong influence throughout a century, shaping the works of musicians such like Jacob do Bandolim, Meira, Baden Powell, Mauricio Carrilho, Raphael Rabello, among many others.


This photo taken in 1913 at the city of Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro featuring Donga, a non identified musician, Joao Pernambuco and Pixinguinha comes from an awesome website that I had the chance to know today with the help of Jorge Mello and this fantastic contribution. Anamaria & Mauricio - No, No, No... Estamos na Nossa (1970)

Hello, good evening! This is the first out of a series of posts sponsored by a family, serving Brazilian music to the world since 2004. Meet Jose Ignacio Neto, grandchild of the legendary Nono Ze, owner, founder and maintainer of one of the first podcast services made available online, AVolta, which was all about Brazilian music. I said was, but the legacy remains on line as several episodes available at Odeo and Podcast Directory. I’m not sure the music is still available, but Ignacio’s writings really worth checking out.

Anyway, Jose Ignacio Neto speaks about the Ignacio’s story and I would like to invite you to engage his first contribution, which is Anamaria and Mauricio first album by Continental in 1972, arranged by Antonio Adolfo, Chico de Moraes, Arthur Verocai and Jongo Trio. According with JIN, a sought after by DJs in Europe and Japan, featuring a Repertoire chosen by Antonio Adolfo who appears to be playing electric piano on most selections. Let’s see.

Jose Ignacio Neto welcome message to Loronix community:

In 2004, despite his great age, my grandfather Jose Ignacio Brasileiro de Souza e Castro, was one of the world's very first podcasters and the first person to podcast rare old Brasilian music to a curious world.

His podcast Avolta Brazilian Rare Grooves created each week in his apartment in Copacabana, was soon cult listening around the globe. However, in mid 2005 he passed away and for some time the music was stopped.

All was not lost, however, 'Nono Ze' as we liked to call him, left his entire record collections of over 150,000 78s, LPs, and cassettes to my father Jose Ignacio Jr. My father soon began to take up the podcast where Nono Ze left off. So was born Avolta Jr. Alas, my father was unable to find time to keep the podcasts going for more than one year, and even Avolta Jr also stopped podcasting. Further there was a big tragedy. His secret apartment in Flamengo (where my grandmother once believed Nono Ze kept his mistress but where in reality he kept his gigantic record collection) suffered from a terrible fire which melted so many of those fantastic records. But, not all of them...

But now it's the time to introduce myself Jose Ignacio Brasileiro de Souza e Castro Neto - that means grandson. That's right I am now the third member of my family to assume the Avolta name, and zecalouro has kindly invited me to post some of Nono Ze's fantastic collection of rare Brazilian records to help and assist the amazing work already taken by Zeca and his Loronix friends.

Luiz Claudio - Intimidade (1968)

Here we go on an album that is filed since the very first beginning waiting for a chance to be presented to Loronixers. During all this time, it was sent as a contribution from Mr. X and now the legendary bossanovadreamer - by the way, a very big fan of this artist - sent it again to our appreciation. That's why I cannot keep waiting longer, since bossanovadreamer dedicates this album with great enthusiasm to zecalouro, Caetano Rodrigues and worldwide community of Loronixers.

If you get the chance to listen to a earlier Luiz Claudio release - Luiz Claudio - Entre Nos (1966), for Musidisc - which is a post that makes me feel very proud with the comment wrote by Ed Motta, do not hesitate to give a chance to Intimidade, directed by Maestro Lyrio Panicalli and arranged by Antonio Adolfo, with two exceptions, as indicated on track list. Tamba 4 - Tamba 4 (1969) | Recorded in Mexico

When I was planning with Caetano our next Tuesday All Countries at Loronix homage we spent a lot of time trying to realize how great would be Bossa Nova in Mexico and how many albums were recorded in Mexico by Brazilian artists. By heart, I can list, Tamba Trio, Leny Andrade, Joao Gilberto, Carlos Lyra and many others. Our estimate is that several unknown albums are available in Mexico, recorded by Brazilian artists or Bossa Nova albums recorded by Mexican musicians. That's the spirit of All Countries at Loronix, to identify music and also create links to music websites to our community and develop knowledge exchange with both countries.

That's why the closing post today is dedicated to a Brazilian group recording Brazilian music in the country that should bring most information though our initiative. Mexico.

Hello! Good evening! I want to start this Saturday night with a repost dedicated to a very good Loronixer, her name is Candida Pires, from Rio de Janeiro and now living in Lisbon, Portugal. Candida is a big fan of the folks from Turma da Pilantragem and she asked for this repost a long time ago. I took me a lot of time until I find this album and I totally agree with Candida, the first issue was a real shame, scratchy and even annoying. Now we have improved cover scans, better ripping and the FLAC files alternative. I'm delivering the original text with slight modifications on style. Let's see.

Trio 3-D - O Trio 3-D Convida (1965)

This record is really great, my only problem is the cover with these armed military men, but this is a minor issue. Just to remember, the first Trio 3-D release at Loronix was that one with the guys standing at the keyboard of a giant piano, all black with Trio 3-D on a yellow and very modern typeface. Actually, I'm never 100% happy.

Anyway, it is Trio 3-D, instrumental Bossa Jazz from the 60's with the LP Trio 3-D - O Trio 3-D Convida (1965), for RCA. Trio 3-D at this released is Antônio Adolfo (piano), Carlinhos Monjardin (bass) and Nelsinho (drums). But what make this LP different are the special guests Raul de Barros (trombone), Ed. Maciel (trombone), Paulo Moura (sax alto) and Meirelles (Sax tenor). The arrangements are from Trio 3-D leader, Antonio Adolfo, the exceptions are tracks 7 and 12, arranged by Eumir Deodato. Conjunto 3-D - Tema 3-D (1964)

The last Festival da Balanca release was nice and useful to remember an important instrumental combom from the 60's that did not have a single release at Loronix, Conjunto 3D, also known as Trio 3D. Conjunto 3-D - Tema 3-D (1964), for RCA is the debut LP, followed by Trio 3-D Convida and Muito na Onda, the last one with Eduardo Conde and Beth Carvalho on vocals.

Antonio Adolfo (piano) is Conjunto 3D leader, listed on set of all three releases. Tema 3-D, has Antonio Adolfo (piano and arrangements), Cacho (bass and vocals on tracks 04 and 10), Nelson (drums). Adittionaly Tema 3-D has Arisio (acoustic guitar), Claudio (piston on tracks 02, 04 and 09), Dom Um Romao (drums on tracks 01, 09, 10, 11 and 12). A perfect cover and always welcomed Bossa Jazz classic for a great day closing. Tracks include:

I was planning another release for today, a release sponsored by Jorge Mello that requires a solid research. I was very close to my bed when I remembered another Jorge Mello contribution that would be really easy to review, which is this one, an album recorded by Luiz Eca in 1970 for Philips, produced by Roberto Menescal and – as the cover shows – tailored for the international market. Let’s see.

This is Luiz Eca – Brazil 70 (1970), for Philips. Besides Luiz Eca piano and arrangements in all tracks, little I know about this album. My Google searches did not return credits on musicians and additional details on this session. This is a Luiz Eca career album that I never heard about and we should say “Thank You!” to Jorge Mello for another fantastic addition to Loronix. Tracks include:

Maria Creuza - Meia Noite com Maria Creuza (1977)

Maria Creuza popularity is growing and the numbers demonstrates it. We had Maria Creuza - Maria Creuza e Os Grandes Mestres do Samba (1975), for the same RCA Victor and it is unbelievable, it was the top downloaded of the whole week, ahead of legends such like Joao Gilberto and others. That's why Maria Creuza is back to Loronix, not with a Samba album, but another beautiful RCA Victor session featuring arrangements and piano of Luiz Eca, Antonio Adolfo and Geraldo Vespar and Luiz Claudio.

This is Maria Creuza - Meia Noite com Maria Creuza (1977), for RCA Victor. It is nice to hear Maria Creuza sweet voice performing a very well selected repertoire of romantic songs. The album starts with a beautiful composition by Caetano Veloso, including several compositions from Antonio Carlos e Jocafi, an Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes medley and the gorgeous track 11 - A Distancia (Roberto Carlos / Erasmo Carlos). V Festival Internacional da Cancao Vol. 2 (1970)

I have been wondering why Loronix does not have a representative number of recordings from the legendaries Festivais da Cancao, a fever in Brazilian music by the end of the 60's decade. I have some assumptions, in spite of its importance, perhaps they are not popular among our community or I failed on making the choices in the few albums already available. Perhaps the root cause is my total ignorance about the period, anyway, I'm trying to fix this approach with a new album, which seems quite appropriate considering the performers and repertoire. Let's see.

This is V Festival Internacional da Cancao Vol. 2 (1970), for Odeon. First of all, as an international festival, why this album does not feature international performers? Additionally, why the albums in the style do not bring information about the winners and prizes? Better show this one and open the discussion. Do not miss the music videos featuring Geraldo Vandre performing with Trio Maraya and Quarteto Novo on some Festival da Cancao edition. Angela Roro - Simples Carinho (1983)

My digital camera has gone. I never though this would happen and now I know how a digital camera is an essential item at Loronix, all covers are made with a digital camera, no camera, no show. I need to have it fixed by tomorrow morning. It is frustrating to read at camera LCD the message "No Memory Stick" while you know there are more than twenty album covers there.

Anyway, great coincidence that I have this LP cover ready for my personal collection of albums with birds on cover. This singer was never released before at Loronix and is also pretty unknown outside Brazil. zecalouro took part on this cover photo session to make an extra income, probably to buy a new digital camera. The covers alone worth the entire album, but let’s see what we have inside.

This is Angela Roro - Simples Carinho (1983), for Polydor, her forth LP. I will let you with Angela Roro and the help of AMG on her bios. Meanwhile I will make a deep search around the apartment to find an old memory stick. This is a really unusual release at Loronix and you should decide to blame or thanks the defective camera for it. Ângela Ro Ro studied classical piano from an early age. Her nickname Ro Ro is derived from her rough and low voice. She began to play around the Carioca neighborhood of Ipanema, and soon, influenced by her idol Ella Fitzgerald (along with Maysa and Jacques Brel), she moved to London during the military regimen, where she survived upon small jobs while performing around the city. Returning to Brazil in 1979, she was hired by Polygram, recording her first album in that year, Ângela Ro Ro, which had the hits "Amor, Meu Grande Amor," "A Mim e a Mais Ninguém," and "Tola Foi Você." Always faithful to her dramatic, irreverent, sexually unconventional, and explosive character, Ro Ro followed her career, recording in 1980 the LP Só Nos Resta Viver, which had a great success with the title track; "Tango da Bronquite" also was a hit. "Escândalo," by Caetano Veloso, is from the 1981 LP of the same name, and made reference to the headlines accounting the explosive rupture of her affair with singer Zizi Possi. In 1982, she had another hit with "Simples Carinho" (João Donato/Abel Silva), included in the 1983 same-titled LP. Maria Bethânia, who had recorded "Gota de Sangue" in her Mel LP (1979), re-recorded "Fogueira" (1983), which was recorded by Ângela Ro Ro in the same year for the Simples Carinho LP. A Vida é Mesmo Assim (1984) had success with the title track. Besides her participation in the Songbook series (Lumiar), she recorded the following solo LPs/CDs: Eu Desatino (1985), Prova de Amor (1988), Nosso Amor ao Armagedon (Ao Vivo) (1993), and Acertei no Milênio (2000). In 1996, Barão Vermelho had a hit with the re-recording of "Amor, Meu Grande Amor." In the same year, Polygram reissued in CD the 1982 LP Simples Carinho. In 1997, Eldorado reissued in CD the 1988 LP Prova de Amor.

Yesterday, we received a hint from the great Loronixer Beto Kessel of a TV Globo soundtrack that Loronixers should not miss. I took the files (unfortunately, I do not have the LP) for a hearing today and I agree 100% with Beto, this soundtrack worth a posts and it is solid from start to end. Mr. D&C said wonders about this album yesterday at Loronix Forum. Actually, this is a Mr. D&C long time recommendation to zecalouro. My question about this LP, which is great indeed, is Marcos Samm itself. What happened with this singer that recorded two singles, this LP and had also some participations at the Brazilian festivals in 1969. Information about Marcos Samm seems to be not available anywhere, as far as I could search.
