Quarteto em Cy / Tamba Trio - Som Definitivo (1966)

There is no much to say about this reposting, rescued from June 2006, with the files hosted at the old Rapidshare.de and probably out of the sight and reach of many Loronixers. Such like Edu Lobo - A Musica de Edu Lobo por Edu Lobo (1963), Tamba Trio proves to be also a great backup band, this time with the Girls from Bahia, also known as Quarteto em Cy and their second career album. Let's see.

This is Quarteto em Cy / Tamba Trio - Som Definitivo (1966), for Forma. Luiz Eça delivers instrumental and vocal arrangements for Quarteto em Cy. Do not miss Vinicius de Moraes liner notes at the back cover, now included as part of the upgrade. This is another of those mandatory and self-explanatory releases. You cannot go wrong with Som Definitivo. Tracks include:

Personnel

QUARTETO EM CY

Cyva
Cynara
Cybele
Cylene

TAMBA TRIO

Luiz Eca
(piano, arrangements)
Bebeto
(bass, flute)
Ohana
(drums)

Hi zecalouro,

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's having a hard time for the last two months trying to keep up with your pace. I wonder how you do it - it's amazing! I can't pick anything special - I like nearly all of it. But for sure I'd be happy to see (and hear) the early recordings of Quarteto em Cy ...

So, keep up the good work, dan-the-man.

Dan-the-man,

Thanks. You are the man!

I will check out the early Quarteto em Cy LPs. BTW, do you have any specific to recommend? It helps.

If you think this album is a loser wait for Arrastao ... their voices have never been heard before

Hi zecalouro,

I'm sure you're the man! Thanks for answering, thanks for asking.

To be honest: I like brazilian music and I learned a lot from your blog – but I don't know too much. By the way I'm from Germany – and as you mentioned before: germans seem to like brazilian music (No. 4 getting close to Japan). I got the EMI CD by Quarteto em Cy, I think originally from 1972 – and I got a few tracks on some samplers, and these are from their Elenco releases – and those I really like. So the records should be (all on Elenco):

Quarteto em Cy (1966 - ME 33)
Marre de Cy (1967 - ME 41)
Em Cy Major (1968 - ME 47)

I got these infos from the website http://www.bizarremusic.com.br/elenco/

Whatever you can do is appreciated. You do sooo much already! Wish you another nice evening with your mother.

Hi zecalouro,

I even found one more early LP by Quarteto em Cy: simply called Quarteto em Cy from 1965 on Forma (FM-4) before Som Definitivo.

And thanks for Moacir Santos (and the nice quote) – he is fantastic.

Hello dan-the-man,

May you send me an email at zecalouro@gmail.com?

I'm not "skilled" on Quarteto em Cy and I need your help.

Thanks

Fine meeting of talents here. Tamba Jazz meets 4 part harmonies. Sounds good to me?

Admiro o Quarteto em Cy e tenho muitas gravações deles. Faltam-me algumas como os álbuns "MPB em Cy" (1999), "And roses, and roses (1965, Odeon, Warner, com Caymmi), e alguns compactos como o CED06, Elenco, 1967.
Se puder disponibilizar, ficarei muito grato.
Acesso diariamente esse blog, que considero excelente.

thanks for this and it's true we are finding it hard to keep up! but this is no complaint it just means I will have to buy a new hard drive and get myself a rapidshare account and at some point send you a donation as soon as I have dropped some bad habits! I am pleased to say you have given lots of people hope and we wish a long a happy future. cheers for this ..

Uma pena que o Quarteto em Cy tenha ficado tão chato...quando ouço os primeiros discos e até mesmo o da Odeon (1972) chego a chorar de emoção.

Here's a clip from them visiting the US as The Girls from Bahia, along with Marcos Valle, on the Andy Williams show.
