Orquestra Rio de Janeiro - Velhas Ideias Novas (30 Anos de Samba) (1960)

This post is all about the Brazilian recording companies from the old times. Loronix has opened my eyes to see the music from Brazil on a new perspective, the record labels. It is very exciting and fun to explore Brazilian music on this way, every collector has a group of selected labels of this choice and this one is among my favorites.

This is Orquestra Rio de Janeiro - Velhas Ideias Novas (30 Anos de Samba) (1960), for Plaza, the single LP released by this wonderful orchestra that features arrangements by Severino Filho (Os Cariocas) and direction by Maestro Henrique Gandelman, the father of the Brazilian musician Leo Gandelman. This is provided by Caetano Rodrigues, also another Plaza maniac, such like zecalouro. What makes Plaza unique is the musicians, always top-notch and credited on back cover, different from others recording companies that did not care to write personnel info and even each record release date. Thanks Caetano for this awesome and very hard to find record. Tracks include:

- A Voz do Morro (Zé Keti)
- Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
- Onde o Céu Azul É Mais Azul (Alberto Ribeiro / João de Barro / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)
- Ai Que Saudade da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
- Copacabana (Alberto Ribeiro / João de Barro)
- A Felicidade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
- Madureira Chorou (Carvalhinho / Julio Monteiro)
- Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)
- Maracangalha (Dorival Caymmi)
- Meu Consolo É Você (Roberto Martins / Antônio Nássara)
- Feitiço da Vila (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
- Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos "Bide" / Armando "Marçal")
