Just to let everybody aware of a Carlos Lyra interview given for my very good friend Gravata at Jornal O Globo, Rio de Janeiro. Carlos Lyra says something very important about Loronix, which is the opportunity Loronix provides to make out of print albums available to the public. Carlos Lyra statement matches with one of the most important rules of Loronix that makes available only albums that are no longer available commercially. At Loronix, if I know that an album is commercially available anywhere in the world, I will not offer it for download.Carlos Lyra's words are a major step to Loronix evolution and I would like to thank Gravata for making this interview that took me by surprise this morning. At a time when we celebrate Bossa Nova´s 50th anniversary, internet surfers are attracted to a web site that offers rare discs which are no longer found in record stores, but can be downloaded for free. It´s Zeca Louro´s blog, http://loronix.blogspot.com. There you can find gems like "Canção do Amor Demais" (1958) where Elizeth Cardoso sings for the first time some Jobim - Vinicius classics; the historical "Au Bon Gourmet" show (1962) where, for the for the first time Jobim, Vinicius, João Gilberto and Os Cariocas appeared together. Not to mention the antological "Chega de Saudade" (1959) where João Gilberto sings three songs by Carlos Lyra, one of Bossa Nova´s pioneers. Now we have Lyra talking about it:
- It is easier to find your rare career albums in foreign countries than in Brazil. Why?
Lira - Not just rare albums, but all of them. In Japan´s Tower Records there is a whole section with my discs. There you can find LPs that have later been released as CDs, as well as compilations that they made. I can only conclude that the intellectual level in Japan is much higher than in Brazil.
- There are sites, like Loronix, that offer such rarities for free. What is your opinion about it?
Lira - Loronix, as far as I know, is a site that offers only discs which are no longer sold and, therefore, cannot be purchased by anybody. It is an incentive to record labels which, now, can identify the ones which are being downloaded more frequently and release them again. There are some albums which are not available in Brazil but are sold in the US or Japan and, therefore, can be acquired though the internet; in my opinion, they should not be offered for free. It is important to understand that composers live off they works. It is somehow difficult to make people understand that this is our job, and we cannot simply give off what we create. It is our daily bread.
