Dick Farney Trio - 5 Anos de Jazz (1977)

Here we go again with this amazing record that deserves the status of the "closing post" of the day. However, it always happen, I look at this cover late at night and I fell disturbed and afraid, so let's make it earlier, a wonderful LP showing the jazz pianist side of this great artist.

This is Dick Farney Trio - 5 Anos de Jazz (1977), for London, recorded live. I don't know where this LP was record, maybe on a small place taking in consideration the number of hands clapping. I spoke with Caetano in Sao Paulo about this LP and he strongly recommends, Caetano does not use to be wrong. Dick Farney Trio is Dick Farney (piano), Saba (bass) and Toninho (drums). I'm showing a video originally posted on YouTube by the great Loronixer Paulo Bitencourt. You can visit his website at http://www.bitencourt.net. As Paulo said, this is a late Dick Farney and his voice is not on his best, he sings Copacabana and I strongly recommend that you watch it. Tracks include:

Movie | Donald and Ze Carioca - Blame it on the Samba (1948) with Ethel Smith

Hello, Good Night! While Loronix engineers are working hard to prepare the day, why another video with Donald and Ze Carioca? I think it is a nice idea.

This is Blame it on the Samba (1948), with the participation of Ethel Smith, acknowledged as the "First Lady of the Hammond Organ". Ethel plays his Hammond on this film, making a mess with Ze Carioca and Donald, masterpiece. It is the first time I see an Hammond played in 1948. I read that Ethel Smith spent a time in Brazil collaborating to make the musical bridge of that time.

I have been taking this LP as the re-issue of Baden & Vinicius - Afrosambas (1966), that is the reason for never give the deserved attention to it. This is very common and can occur several times if you are cover oriented, such like me. I'm happy to realize that, so we have a brand new LP to explore today. Let's see.

This is Baden Powell & Vinicius de Moraes - De Baden para Vinicius (1981), for WEA, recorded at Teatro Clara Nunes - Rio de Janeiro between July and August 1980 as part of the show "Nosso Banden". Nothing can go wrong when you have Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes together. Baden Powell is backed by Hélio Schiavo (drums), Saulo Bezerra de Melo (bass), Alfredo Bessa (percussion) and Ovídio (Pandeiro and Cuíca). Tracks include:

Flora Purim - Flora e M.P.M (1964)

Here is the first Flora Purim album at Loronix. If someone needs to be blamed by such delay, blame it on zecalouro, several friends have been asking for this post since the beginning. Everybody says that this record is essential for any serious Bossa Nova collector. Personnel listing itself, also worth the admission price. I hope you enjoy Flora Purim.

This is Flora Purim - Flora e M.P.M (1964), for RCA Victor, Flora's debut LP, featuring a cast of top-notch musicians. If you know Flora Purim for her late US releases, you will have a great surprise with this LP, Flora Purim sings Bossa Nova here and makes it on a great way. I don't know the reasons why Flora did not follow her style, but I heard several times that she could be a great diva, as the great ones we have in Brazil. Tracks include:

Conjunto D'Angelo - Incrementado (1968)

This band and LP is a complete mystery for me and probably for the friends who had already the chance to hear it. Actually, this album sounds very similar to that last release by Conjunto Balambossa - Poema do Adeus. I received several messages with compliments by that release. It is amazing how people like the sound and groove of the Hammond B3 organ. I would like to know who is behind this record. Let's see what we have here.

Bob Fleming - Mr. Sax Serie C

Hello, good night! I will start the day saying Welcome! to several new friends that had their first contact with Loronix today. Mariana Barros, from a major Brazilian newspaper in Sao Paulo, Folha de Sao Paulo, wrote an article mentioning Loronix, Thanks Mariana!

I made a try today to scare zecalouro with this cover and he could not understand that the image of a kitten as a real kitten. Perhaps the capacity of associate pictures with real forms is only a human gift. Ok! I'm finished with rubbish, let's talk about the music.

This is Bob Fleming - Mr. Sax Serie C (no date), for Musidisc. If you are thinking we have a new artist to explore or a special post of an international musician, don't stop reading. Bob Fleming is Moacyr Silva, the legendary Brazilian sax player with many LPs already presented to Loronixers. I could not check Moacyr Silvas reasons to adopt this alternative name for some recordings on Musidisc. Caetano is also also very interested to understand this character, Bob Fleming, since Bob Fleming still releasing for Musidisc after Moacyr Silva departure to Copacabana (record label).

The questions are many, for instance: Moacyr Silva performed which Bob Fleming records? Who is the second Bob Fleming besides Moacyr Silva? If you have something to add to this pile of uncertain, feel free to come and say. By the way, this record is truly amazing. Tracks include:

Tamba Trio - Tempo (1964)

I was thinking about a repost showing something really great and solid to several new friends that came to Loronix in the last weeks. Tamba Trio was in my mind and I was convinced that we had no missing "essentials" Tamba Trio records to show. I was wrong. It is unbelievable that I never consider this great records, one of the best releases of this great Trio lead by Luiz Eca. This will be really cool. I hope you have the same pleasure hearing this album that I had to hear again and show to Loronixers.

This is Tamba Trio - Tempo (1964), for Philips, featuring Luiz Eca (arrangements, musical direction and piano), Bebeto Castilho (bass) and Helcio Milito (drums). I like to associate events and Caetano asked for saying to Loronixers to do not miss the concert where this LP was released, which is E Tempo de Musica Moderna (1965), here. For those who did not miss that nice Caetano's release, it is now clear and easy to understand the association of the word Tempo on both albums. This is truly self-explanatory. Stay with Tamba Trio while I'm coming back to watch Wilson Simonal video again. Tracks include:

When deciding the posts of the day, in the beginning of the night, or with Caetano Rodrigues after 8 PM (most cases), it is very important to keep in mind some pitfalls, you cannot post four instrumental albums on a single day, or two female singers together and many other different criteria you have to manage. This is the reason some friends get mad when I meant to do something and the outcome is completely different. Caetano is an example, we just finished a phone call with a plan and now I'm here - ten minutes later - showing something different to Loronixers. I hope you trust me on my selections.
