Myrzo Barroso - Myrzo (1965)

Hello! Good Evening! Loronixers were thrilled yesterday and all long today with Rosinha de Valenca Ao Vivo, a mega rare release sponsored by the great Caetano Rodrigues. Actually, Rosinha de Valenca Ao Vivo was not selected to be the closing post of yesterday, but this parrot was so tired yesterday that slept by accident, waking up this morning without understanding what happened. It was better, I'm feeling great today, with a great will to deliver a wonderful night to Loronixers.

Let's start with another of those "impossible to find" Caetano Rodrigues albums, tailored for the Brazilian friends that were following the scene at the 60's. These friends know what I'm talking about. :-)

This is Myrzo Barroso - Myrso (1965), for RCA Victor, the first and only LP recorded by Myrzo Barroso, featuring arrangements of Orlando Costa, the legendary Maestro Cipo, which I could not resist to place his picture at this post, together with Myrzo. Little is known about this album, but Myrzo liner notes makes some mentions on personnel, including Fats Elpidio (piano), Copinha (flute), Jorge Arenas and Rubens Bassini (percussion). Musical Direction is from Maestro Zaccarias. Tracks include:

Leo Peracchi | Leo Peracchi e Suas Cordas Cariocas - Sambas e Violinos (1958)

Hello, Good Night! I'm very happy that I only need to write at Loronix, not speak as a radio station. I'm speechless. I'm an old parrot and the last time I get in touch with a home scanner, probably most of you were on short paints. That's why I never took in consideration a scanner at Loronix, they were expensive and the results were draft low-resolution images. However, Caetano sent wonderful covers on this package and I was really disturbed with the pictures I was taking with my digital camera.

Loronix is now equipped with an entry-level scanner, we are not an enterprise, so I decided to make it through the cheapest I could find. So far, the results are breathtaking. I will make some testings in the next hour before starting Caetano's post. I could not resist getting a beautiful cover for a scan - I'm a curious parrot - and this is the outcome. What do you think? My only issue now is connecting two images without visible separation. The scanner is smaller than an LP.

If anyone knows how to make it, feel free, but do not worry. We have time. Caetano's covers are CD size, so we will not have this kind of issue to address today. Sorry about the scanner bla bla bla, I'm very happy with this new feature and I use to communicate open and honestly with Loronix friends.

This is Leo Peracchi | Leo Peracchi e Suas Cordas Cariocas - Sambas e Violinos (1958), for Odeon. I'm making available a further reissue made by Odeon subsidiary Imperial, which I could not gather release date, my better estimate is the mid 60's. Little is know about this session; Maestro Leo Peracchi assembled a big orchestra with more than 100 musicians. It was a big challenge to make this session with the resources of that time.

Sansa Trio - Sansa Trio Vol. 2 (1966)

Everyday I learn something that I don't know at Loronix and today was a day that I learned a lot of things, as follows:

a. You can have the best equipment available at the marketplace, but if you save your money buying ordinary cables instead of the best you can find, your last generation equipment will deliver gramophone results. I'm testing a new cable with this new Caetano package, if you think the quality has improved, this is the reason.

b. Sansa Trio Vol. 2 has Airto Moreira on drums replacing the nice drummer fellow of Volume 1.

c. Maestro Jose Briamonte is the piano player and probably the leader of Sansa Trio.

d. Airto Moreira makes the difference and makes a great contribution on Volume 2, which is much better than Volume 1.

e. I need to take a time and list the albums I loose hope to find and them compare with this Caetano Rodrigues package, which is the one that brings the hardest to find stuff.

f. We need to write comments and give feedback to the great work Caetano is making to Loronixers. Tomorrow, I will make a repost on that educational video.

Silvio Silveira - Silvio Silveira e i Suoi Ritmi Brasiliani - Bossa Nova Ad Alta Quota with Sivuca

If you are Sivuca fan you will probably remember an old contribution by Caetano Rodrigues, a 10-inch album recorded in 1961, Sivuca - Samba Nouvelle Vague. I did not mention that time, but Samba Novelle Vague has a special connection with this album, Silvio Silveira accompanied Sivuca. Now it is the time of swapping positions, Silvio Silveira is the main performer and Sivuca is the special guest. By the way, what a really special guest!

This is Silvio Silveira - Silvio Silveira e i Suoi Ritmi Brasiliani - Bossa Nova Ad Alta Quota (no date), for Barclay. There is no problem with this record, except it is a really hard to find item, even impossible to track down at Goggle or auction sites. The Lucky friends that had the chance to know Caetano's book will probably remember this record and this cover listed there on a special place. Caetano loves this record that has the participation of the legendary Sivuca in all tracks with all tricks, playing accordion and using his voice as an instrument. Tracks include:

Luiz Loy Quinteto - Luiz Loy Quinteto (1966)

It is really exciting to start a new Caetano Rodrigues contribution series; Caetano sent 46 impossible to find albums to Lorinixers, most of them from the golden age, the 60's. Full listing is a secret, sorry about the friends who reach me, I cannot anticipate, there are only four people in the world who know the full listing, Caetano, his wife, zecalouro and myself. Actually three, zecalouro is not human.

Anyway, let's start great, showing a really hard to find album that combines top-notch Samba Jazz music with a wonderful cover.

This is Luiz Loy Quinteto - Luiz Loy Quinteto (1966), for RGE, featuring Luis Loy (piano), Roberto Bandeira (bass), Zinho (drums), Mazola (sax tenor, flute) and the legendary Papudinho (piston). I always though Luiz Loy was the sax player, the one we can see his back playing sax, but I was wrong. It is also a nice surprise that we will hear again thee pistonist Papudinho, which is the small guy on our left. Luiz Loy released only four albums, the first in 1962 and the last one in 1968, I don't know if he could follow a career as musician before these four fantastic albums.

Elizeth Cardoso & Zimbo Trio - E de Manha (1970)

I never heard about a second collaboration between Elizeth Cardoso and Zimbo Trio besides Elizeth Cardoso e Zimbo Trio - Elizeth e Zimbo Trio Balancam na Sucata (1969), already available at Loronix. I was "introduced" to this album on an old vinyl shop in Copacabana. If you appreciate the first, don't miss this one, recorded at the same Sucata nightclub.

This is Elizeth Cardoso e Zimbo Trio - E de Manha (1970), for Copacabana, recorded live at Sucata Nightclub as part of a show directed by Herminio Bello de Carvalho. It is amazing how this record quality is so good taking in consideration the resources available in 1970. Elizeth and Zimbo Trio can be heard together in all tunes, except tracks 05 - Zazueira and 08 - Casa Forte, instrumental tracks featuring only Zimbo Trio.

Luiz Harding sent a video with excerpts of the Brazilian movie Noite Vazia (1964), directed by Walter Hugo Khuori with Zimbo Trio in charge of the soundtrack. I think this video fits very nice with this post, you can hear Zimbo Trio in the background while watching performances by the legendary Odette Lara and Norma Bengell. Tracks include:

Luiz Eça is really a great artist; I think everybody likes him, he is one of the few artists that I never knew someone who dislike. Everybody likes Luiz Eca and few friends are neutral to him. I'm happy to show Loronixers an album arranged and conduced by Luiz Eça with Quinteto Villa-Lobos, which is a classical music quintet that has been together since 1962 and you probably know by their participation on 5 na Bossa with Tamba Trio, Nara Leao and Edu Lobo.

Hello, Good Evening! I will not talk about the weather again, but it seems summer will overlap the following seasons, ending at the beginning of next summer, at least in Brazil. Everything is all right with the folks from Bahia, the Brazilian state with sun 365 days a year. That's the connection I'm trying to make: sub, Bahia and the legendary Dorival Caymmi, his first time on video at Loronix. Just to start this, how can I say, hot Sunday.

Music Video | Two Baden Powell Videos

Luiz Harding sent some nice videos this week to Loronixers, nice and big videos. This is an example, the genius of Baden Powell on two videos. The first take Baden Powell performing chorinho with friends, perhaps some party or celebration, but the video is not home-made, very well produced. I like it a lot. The second one was also sent by Luiz Harding and shows Baden Powell performing with Dulce Nunes, produced by bossa-brasileira.blogspot.com.
