Os Bossa Tres - Os Bossa Tres (1963)

It happened again, I was looking at the old posts for a nice record of the legendary Bossa Tres trio to make a repost to new Loronixers. The great surprise is that I could not find their debut LP and this is a wonderful surprise, instead of a repost, we have a brand new LP, never shown to Loronixers before.

This is Os Bossa Tres - Os Bossa Tres (1963), for Audio Fidelity, their debut LP, featuring what is considered their best formation with Luiz Carlos Vinhas (piano), Tiao Neto (bass) and Edison Machado (drums). Bossa Tres was formed in 1961 and is known as the first instrumental Bossa Nova trio. Every day we learn something new at Loronix, I just read that Bossa Tres performed with Lennie Dale in the Ed Sulivan Show, years before Beatles presentation at the same show when they conquered the US. Tracks include:

01 - Blues Walk (C. Brown)
02 - Céu e Mar (Johnny Alf)
03 - Green Dolphin Street (Washington / Kaper)
04 - Menina Feia (Oscar Castro Neves)
05 - Sol e Chuva (D. Payne)
06 - Olhou Pra Mim (Ed Lincoln)
07 - Tema Bossa Três (Tião Neto)
08 - Não Faz Assim (Oscar Castro Neves)
09 - Somebody Loves Me (George Gershwin)
10 - Só Saudade (Tom Jobim)
11 - Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
12 - Zelão (Sergio Ricardo)

Renato Perez - Samba Toff (1964)

I have been skipping this post daily for just a single reason; I don't know what to say about it, except my own opinion. If you want to know my opinion, which is the only information available so far, I have to tell you that this is an album that you cannot miss. Let's see why.

This is Renato Perez - Samba Toff (1964), for Chantecler, an album that can make the day of those who like instrumental music and the ones that requires lyrics. Renato Perez probably plays sax, highlighted throughout the LP and Helinha Leporacce sings some tracks. Truly great from start to end and really nice for a Saturday night. I hope Loronixers have fun with this LP. Tracks include:

01 - Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
02 - Isensatez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - Menina Feia (Oscar Castro Neves / Luvercy Fiorini)
04 - Duas Contas (Garoto) with Renato Perez / Helinha Leporacce
05 - Samba Jazz (Armando de Paula)
06 - Lua de Mel (Airton Ávila) with Helinha Leporacce / Renato Perez
07 - Chora Coração (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
08 - Samba Toff (Orlann Divo / Roberto Jorge)
09 - Bolinha de Sabão (Orlann Divo / Adilson Azevedo)
10 - Você Nem Telefona (Lauro Miranda) with Renato Perez / Helinha Leporacce
11 - Canção de Amor (Chocolate / Elano de Paula)
12 - Brinquedo de Menino (Generoso / Venâncio) with Renato Perez / Helinha Leporacce

Jorge Henrique - Dancando Face a Face (1959)

Hello, good night! I received several emails from Loronixers asking for directions to purchase Caetano's book on Bossa Nova LP covers. Unfortunately, this book is out of print. I was released on a very limited edition. That's why Caetano had that idea of making that film showing what is inside to Loronixers. I hope it was useful. A digital camera with several limitations made the movie, perhaps one day we can make a second turn with more time and quality.

Let's start the day with a record that someone sent me several months ago and I could never find a reason to share, but a friend show me that this artist was of great importance in the past and made several collaborations with renowned artists, such like Luiz Bonfa on the anthological EP De Cigarro em Cigarro (1957), 10-inch, for Continental.

This is Jorge Henrique - Dancando Face a Face (1959), for Radio, featuring Jorge Henrique (organ), Alan Gordon (piano) and Hugo Lander (drums). Although Jorge Henrique is the main performer on this LP, Radio gives main performer credits to the three trio components. It will be nice to see Jorge Henrique trio with two keyboards, organ and piano and no bass player, probably, Jorge Henrique makes the bass line on his left hand. That's it; fans of Luiz Bonfa should appreciate this release. Tracks include:

01 - Cinco Letras que Choram
02 - Dois Coracoes
03 - Acercate Mas
04 - Because of You
05 - Reconciliacao
06 - Incertidumbre
07 - Cabelos Brancos
08 - Juramento Falso
09 - Concerto d'autunno
10 - Preto Velho
11 - Tedio

Special Post | zecalouro shows Caetano Rodrigues Bossa Nova e Outras Bossas Book

This is for many friends that have been asking us about Caetano's Bossa Nova book, released a year ago and already a sought after collectors and fans piece. Caetano had this idea yesterday and I got excited to do that, and just did with very limited resources as we are used to do down here.

There are two different movies with Portuguese and English audio. I suggest that you watch both, since different parts of the book were shown on each movie.

Thanks for this idea, Caetano, who knows we make a next one with Caetano speaking next time in Sao Paulo?

Hope uEnjoy!

This post is dedicated to The Jazzman, a great Loronixer that joinned us recently and since his first day does not hesitate on sending emails, shouting at the CBox and writing posts at the Forum. The Jazzman made a zecalouro picture a couple of days ago that I could not resist sharing with Loronixers, it is at the right as a smal picture and you can click to see it big. The Jazzman is a Billy Blanco fan and everyday remembers be to launch this anthological Billy Blanco record, that is what we will see right now.

This is Billy Blanco - Musicas de Billy Blanco na Voz do Proprio (1966), for Elenco, Billy Blanco debut LP and the first solo album at Loronix that Billy Blanco does what I like most of him, his beautiful and sweet voice that makes a nice counterpoint with his strong character with that big moustache that is all about Billy Blanco. Question | Who is this Singer?

I was surfing around for nothing today at Orkut and I read some friends trying to identify who is this singer performing Preciso Aprender a Ser So (Paulo Sergio Valle / Marcos Valle). I decided to bring the video to Loronix and see how we manage this mystery. I know that Refer should identify easy the singer, the day, where it was, the color of her hear rings, etc. Anyway, who is she?

Please make your try in comments section.

I Hope uIdentify!

Carioca e Sua Orquestra - Classicos no Samba (1960)

Hello, Good Night! Let's talk today about how the LPs get damaged along the years and how to get things fixed. I think this post is a perfect example to talk about this. This beautiful cover has been on earth since 1960, 47 years and how it gets hurt since them. I use to make some fixes using computer graphics, but I decided to show it unchanged this time.

I have some questions, how to get rid of that bands with glue used to fix the corners and borders? How to clean the surface and remove dirty with no damage to cover paper. How to remove paper seals and how to eliminate the round marks of the LP borders at the cover? Pencil marks; is there a way to get rid of them? Sorry, for the several questions, but sometimes we need to pull knowledge from friends instead of trying from scratch. Thanks. Going back to the music...

This is Carioca e Sua Orquestra - Classicos no Samba (1960), for RCA Victor, a creative album from Maestro Carioca, making his renditions of a selected repertoire of classical music with the rhythm of Samba. It is very interest to see how many times the bridge between classical music and popular music was addressed along the years with catastrophic results sometimes. This is not the case. Personnel listing is available. Tracks include:

(tracks 06, 10 and 12)
Laerte
(piano)

(drums)

...and several others on rhythm section, available with the music.

Dick Farney Trio - 5 Anos de Jazz (1977)

Here we go again with this amazing record that deserves the status of the "closing post" of the day. However, it always happen, I look at this cover late at night and I fell disturbed and afraid, so let's make it earlier, a wonderful LP showing the jazz pianist side of this great artist.

This is Dick Farney Trio - 5 Anos de Jazz (1977), for London, recorded live. I don't know where this LP was record, maybe on a small place taking in consideration the number of hands clapping. I spoke with Caetano in Sao Paulo about this LP and he strongly recommends, Caetano does not use to be wrong. Dick Farney Trio is Dick Farney (piano), Saba (bass) and Toninho (drums). I'm showing a video originally posted on YouTube by the great Loronixer Paulo Bitencourt. You can visit his website at http://www.bitencourt.net. As Paulo said, this is a late Dick Farney and his voice is not on his best, he sings Copacabana and I strongly recommend that you watch it. Tracks include:

01. Brandenburg Gate (Dave Brubeck)
02. Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes) (Kosma / J. Prevert / Mercer)
03. We'll Be Together Again (Fischer / Laine)
04. Besame Mucho (Consuelo Velasquez)
05. Three To Get Ready (Dave Brubeck)
06. Our Love Is Here To Stay (Ira Gershwin / George Gershwin)
