This is an 1963 Elis Regina - Selftitled - third career album. Elis stills pretty young here but displays an advanced stage of artistry, confident and swinging throughout the album, and in supreme control of her voice. She scats over "Formiguinha Triste," toying with a saxophone very reminiscent of Stan Getz.
Astor makes the arrangements, assembling a small bossa nova group with muted brass and reeds, lending a superb accompaniment to Brazil's brightest young singer.

You are performing a major feat of cultural anthropology. I can't thank you enough. The early albums by Elis Regina, the stunning masterpiece by Elizeth Cardoso, among others, have provided some of the most important and satisfying musical experiences I've had in a decade. Do you take requests? I've been looking, without success, for an album by a group called La Banda Feminina. I heard an excerpt on a Putamayo anthology and was deeply impressed.
Hello David,
Thanks again! My pleasure. Just come back here daily and tell your friends to come also. Loronix needs more traffic and downloads to keep the links alive for a long time.
Requests are appreciated but not guaranteed, since zecalouro cannot make available new releases and albums there are out of Loronix scope, even a good album.
This Banda Feminina is in fact Dida Banda Feminina (Dida All-Girl Band). As you said, they are listed on Putumayo Festa Brasil with the song Dida Banda Feminina, Filhos do Tempo. They have also released a CD a couple of years ago, but it seems they terminated the band, let me explain.
Neguinho do Samba - an artist from Bahia - with Carlinhos Brow have develoed a social program which transform the lives of marginalized Afro Brazilians in Salvador, Bahia. The outcome of this program is Banda Feminina, however, along time, the resources - money - have ended just before the released of the CD, that is now out of print.
zecalouro will be pleased to bring it to Loronix, since it is out of print and there is a social program behind it.
Let's see what zecalouro can do, anyway, it is a very hard to find material.
I'm wondering... Maybe zecalouro should make available an e-mail address to receive requests. Let's see what he can do.
Thanks David, inspired by your excitement with Batucada records, I'm baking right now a new and much more amazing batucada piece than that previous Luciano Perrone stuff.
Stay tuned.
Thank you for your immediate and thorough response to my request. Your blog is very advanced in its conception and is performing important entertainment and education roles for people like me who love but know little about Brazilian music. And I intend to get as many people as possible to visit you, as I do, on a twice and sometimes thrice daily basis.
Hello David,
Thank you!!
Yesterday, Loronix hit the 10,000 page view barrier. Earlier then my very best estimation, just 17 days before the formal launching. Incredible.
On top of it, the feedback received so far is tremendous.
It seems that people is having fun and as you said, being educated to Brazilian Music.
Best Wishes.
Thanks!
She is popular also in Japan.
Hiro,
Hello! Hello! How things are going in Japan?
She is really popular, Elis is the most downloaded artist here.
Amazing, since she has passed a long time ago...
Thanks a cheers.
Hola. Tengo este disco: BMG 7432154359-2 DIDÁ Banda Feminina Mulher Gera O Mundo Dec 23, 1997 01.Samba De Elza, 02.Flores Belas, 03.Eu Quero Ter, 04.Madalena, 05.Quando Toco, 06.Memoria, 07.Convite, 08.Jorge Amado, 09.Barrela, 10.O Rio, 11.Tigresa, 12.Odio Vazio, 13.Dida De Salvador, 14.Suingueira, 15.Filhos De Tempo DIDÁ Banda Feminina Didá's director is Neguinho do Samba. The group's name means "the power and the might of Creation." They performed for President and Mrs. Clinton in Brasília in 1997. This first CD of Didá Banda Feminina is proof that the realm of axé music does not live solely on obvious rhymes and predictable sounds. Didá produce an unorthodox mixture of sounds, thus extending the rhythmic and percussive attributes which characterize the style. The arrangements are a mix of samba de roda, typical of the recôncavo of Bahia, and incorporate elements of rock, uniting African drums, electric guitars, keyboard, flute, and saxophone. In addition to being the musical leader of Didá, Neguinho is mentor and spiritual guide for the girls. He brings with him his rich experience of the years with Olodum. In fact, many critics have already dubbed Didá the "Feminine Olodum." Daniela Mercury interprets "Barrela," a song in which Neguinho pours his heart out in reverence to his own mother. Caetano sings a delightful axé version of his classic "Tigresa." At the Carnaval, just past, the band paid tribute to Caetano, who has been invaluable to the band. On the day of the launching Neguinho was heard saying: "When we honor him, it will be small in comparison to what he has done for us." --http://www.brazzil.com/musapr98.htm --Kirsten Weinoldt

Grazias.
zecalouro
Thank you for such a terrific release!
When I first read this posting, I thought that this LP was identical to "O bem do amor - Orquestra sob a direcao de Astor"(1963), but thankfully, decided to download it just in case and discovered another Elis Regina gem for myself!
Upon further research, this LP and "O bem do amor" are usually listed as Elis's 3rd & 4th albums (in either order). They are actually very similar in spirit and sound, and I wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same set of recording sessions.
Another minor curiousity of this LP is its name: Elis's name is misspelled as Ellis (with 2 'l's)
