Everybody knows that I have a special admiration to the tenor sax of Moacyr Silva. I have been trying to hide my preferences to Loronixers, since my role demands to be neutral. However, with Moacyr Silva, it is quite impossible to write about his music without passion. I hope you understand this.Sometimes our friends surprise us with notes written at their other blogs or websites about Loronix or the artists that we learn to admire here. I could not resist to share this one, written by Daniel, describing Moacyr Silva on his website, let's see.
" (...) a Brasilian musician with a Brasilian band, playing Brasilian music! That's very different as you gonna hear it! Fantastic!!! It is also sure that such a great player as Moacyr SILVA couldn't ignore the jazz tunes. That's why you'll find here two other exceptionals albums, one where Silva hides under the name of Bob Fleming, "Mr Sax" where he goes through standards. All the tunes you know plus ... the sun! the other one, "E tempo de bolero" has also very well known tunes but... I can't explain, you have to listen!!! He really sounds like the great ones of our collections. (...)"
I feel really proud when someone get along with an artist by Loronix and makes such statement, recognizing Moacyr Silva at the same place given to the great ones of his collection. Thanks a lot Daniel for your enthusiasm.
This is Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Samba e Bom Assim Nr. 2 (1965), for Copacabana. Samba e Bom Assim features Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto, which is Moacyr Silva at his best, accompanied by great musicians, such as the legendary Chaim Lewak at the Piano, the bass of Luis Marinho and Rubens Bassini as percussionist. Caetano asked to mention the work of Chaim Lewak on track one, Verao no Meu Rio, Chaim plays a wonderful piano at this tune. Thanks once again Caetano, this "Moacyr" is really hard to find, missing on mine and on several other friends’ collection. Tracks include:
