Tamba Trio - Avanco (1963)

Loronix has been receiving new friends in the last week, on a manner that I could not identify; no major announcement was made on other community. Anyway, as new friends come that old and impossible to answer question comes again, which is, what are the best albums you recommend at Loronix... It is not an easy answer. I've been thinking about making a list, but the chance of leaving something out of it is disturbing. That's why I decided to repost one of the first and most representative Bossa Nova albums made available, since I got it on vinyl recently on a very good quality.

This is Tamba Trio - Avanco (1963), for Philips, second LP by Tamba Trio, lead by the mighty Luiz Eca. Avanco is probably the album the best blends instrumental and vocal arrangements at Tamba Trio whole discography. Bebeto, Tamba Trio bass player and multi-instrumentalist makes the difference here, playing also sax and flute. Durval Ferreira almost makes Tamba Trio a quartet, playing violao in all tracks. Tracks include:

Personnel

Luiz Eca
(piano, arrangements, musical direction)
Bebeto
(bass, sax tenor, sax baritono, flute)
Helcio Milito
(percussion)
Durval Ferreira
(violao)

Track List

01 - Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - Mas Que Nada (Jorge Ben "Jorge Benjor")
03 - Negro (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 - Mania de Maria (Luis Bonfá / Maria Helena Toledo)
05 - Vento do Mar (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
06 - Sonho de Maria (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
07 - Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 - O Samba da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
09 - Moça Flor (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire)
10 - Rio (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
11 - Tristeza de Nós Dois (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn / Bebeto)
12 - Esperança (Durval Ferreira / Luis Fernando Freire / Maurício Einhorn)

Hi Zeca,

Tamra Trio are great. This one along with the 74 album are probably the best outputs from Eça & Co.

Reading this post, I felt challenged to write something about the most recommended ones for Loronix. I Just went through my must-have list and here's some suggestions for future posts: Cynara e Cybele (68), Johnny Alf's "Desbunde Total" (78), Vera Brasil's "Tema do Boneco de Palha" (64), Breno Sauer "4 na Bossa" (65)...

Well, I would suggest many more, but let me first wait if I have some luck with these :-)

All the best, Zeca.
Your blog is awesome.

Thank you so much for this! Ever since hearing their version of Mas Que Nada on the Next Stop Wonderland sountrack, I have been hooked on their harmonies.
