Gilberto Gil - Gilberto Gil (1968)

This is truly amazing, Gilberto Gil second LP recorded in the crazy year of 1968 for Philips, featuring Os Mutantes and arrangements by Maestro Rogerio Duprat. This is *the* self-explanatory release. The Beatles - Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1968), had a great influence on me and probably on Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso as you can see by this fantastic cover artwork, with references to The Beatles cover. I hope Mr. Gil will be pleased to see his album here. Loronixers will be amazed by this release. Let's see.

This is Gilberto Gil - Gilberto Gil (1968), for Philips. Little is known about musicians in this session, except by the participation of Os Mutantes, giving some 60's rock influences to overall experience. Maestro Rogerio Duprat orchestrations, blended with Os Mutantes electric guitars is worth checking. The repertoire features well-known Gilberto Gil songs with highlights to Procissao, Domingo no Parque, Ela Falava Nisso Todo Dia, among others. I urge Loronixers to feedback this release, so we can evaluate the response to late 60's Tropicalia releases. Tracks include:

01 - Frevo Rasgado (Gilberto Gil / Bruno Ferreira)
02 - Coragem Pra Suportar (Gilberto Gil)
03 - Domingou (Gilberto Gil / Torquato Neto)
04 - Marginália II (Gilberto Gil / Torquato Neto)
05 - Pega a Voga Cabeludo (Gilberto Gil / Juan Arcon)
06 - Ele Falava Nisso Todo Dia (Gilberto Gil)
07 - Procissão (Gilberto Gil)
08 - Luzia Luluza (Gilberto Gil)
09 - Pé da Roseira (Gilberto Gil)
10 - Domingo no Parque (Gilberto Gil)

loro, you should mention this is one of the most important albums of the tropicália movement. very different from the bossa nova people expect from loronix. it's one of my favorite albums of all times. and, if you enjoy this, there's also the cd version with 4 bonus tracks: barca grande, a coisa mais linda que existe, questão de ordem (with the beat boys), and a luta contra a lata (ou a falência do café). even though it was left out of the album, a coisa mais linda que existe is one of my favorite gil songs ever. highly recommended.

A fun late sixties album from Gilberto Gil. I would love to see more Tropicalia albums as well as more MPB material from the the 70s. Thanks again for putting these albums up in FLAC.

Joyous stuff. I've always loved downloading music from here that's pre / not psychedelic (as i've spent most of my adult life listening to psyche influenced music, it's refreshing) as it seems so inteligent, focused, soulful and innocent, before LSD came along and warped everything.
This is fresh, and full of life, like it's on the crest of a wave. I have no idea what the lyrics are but..fantastic, glorious. Many many thanks.
