Victor Assis Brasil - 1° Festival de Jazz de Sao Paulo (1978)

Hello, good evening! This is the first out of a series of posts provided by Luiz Harding with cassette tapes transfers of the Primeiro Festival de Jazz de Sao Paulo, held at Palacio de Convencoes do Anhembi, in 1978. Luiz Harding sent it in the beginning of the year and he will probably be really surprised with this post. This Festival is anthological featuring several Brazilian and international performers, such as: John McLaughlin, Tony Smith, Larry Coryell & Philip Catherine, Dizzy Gillespie, Taj Mahal, Patrick Moraz, Hermeto Paschoal, Egberto Gismonti, Chick Corea, Joel Farrel, Stan Getz, Al Jarreau, Peter Tosh, Milton Nascimento, Nivaldo Ornellas, Benny Carter, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Raul de Souza, Djalma Correa, George Duke, Etta James, Ray Brown, Zimbo Trio, Luiz Eça, Helio Delmiro, Márcio Montarroyos, Wagner Tiso, Victor Assis Brasil, which is the one selected to start this amazing series. Let's see.

This is Victor Assis Brasil - Primeiro Festival de Jazz de Sao Paulo (1978), made available by Luiz Harding's cassette tape transfer. Victor Assis Brasil is backed by Paulo Russo (bass), Fernando Martins (piano) and Ted Moore (drums). Luiz Harding said this Festival was broadcasted by Radio Bandeirantes in Sao Paulo and never had a commercial issue. The music is amazing, but the quality is not the same we are used to get with Loronix vinyl transfers. Take it from an historical perspective and thanks a million Luiz Harding for this sharing and also for waiting so long to see it released at Loronix. Tracks include:

I remember this festival. One of its memorable presentations, I think a not rehearsed one, was a chick Corea and Hermeto Paschoal jam duet. Thanks Zeca and Luiz!

Eduardo.
