Hello, Good Night! Let's start the day with a rarely reviewed and spoken Manfredo Fest release, the Brazilian organist from the South Region that started together with the legends of the gold Brazilian instrumental years and could sustain a solid career in US with several acclaimed releases, this is Manfredo Fest - Manifestations (1979), for Tabu Records.

Great! In this LP is playing Lee Ritenour, one of my favourite guitarists. He has some songs, and even a LP ("Rio") devoted to Brazilian music.
Hey Zeca
excellent post of a true underground classic jazz funk album, this should have been released on CD a long time ago, fool be to Tabu Records for missing out.
thanks Steve b

Here's a great story about Manfredo Fest told to me by Joao Donato recently.
In 1968 Sergio Mendes was so busy playing las Vegas and these big tours that he couldn't keep up with all the requests for gigs. So he decided to form a second group to play when he could not. This is how the Bossa Rio came to be formed - the group that recorded in the USA not the original Philips line up.
Anyway Sergio called some musicians he knew were in the USA to make a band. Pery Ribeiro was the singer, Joao Donato the pianist, and Manfredo Fest was to play organ.
This line up toured Japan and is the one heard on the ultra rare Live at Expo 70.
Donato and Manfredo hit the night clubs and bars of Tokyo and Osaka and Donato got so drunk on sake one night that Manfredo had to help them both home to try and find their hotel without knowing any Japanese.
What I didn't realise until Donato told me this story is that Manfredo is blind!
This image of Manfredo leading the 'blind drunk' Donato around the bars of Tokyo is classic.
Later Donato left because he wanted to do his own thing and Bossa Rio recruited Octavio Bailly Jr and Ronie Mesquita from the un-recorded Rio 3 trio leaving pianist Osmar Milito to return to Rio.
Rio 3 as you know recorded some tracks at Bill Horne's Little Studio in Leblon and we released them on Whatmusic in 2002.
