Raul de Barros - Brasil Trombone (1974)

Everybody is having a great time with Elza Soares - Com a Bola Branca (1966) and the trombone arrangements of Maestro Nelsinho do Trombone. It is time to revisit another great Brazilian trombonist, meet Raul de Barros - Brasil Trombone (1974), for Marcus Pereira.

We had some Raul de Barros releases when Loronix were just beginning, for the latecomers, Raul de Barros was very important to Brazilian music, recording more than 40 LPs. He is strongly associated with the old Rio de Janeiro and the gafiera nightclubs, some kind of Brazilian big bands with a very swinging instrumental music based on trombone solos.

This LP has also the participation of the legendary Abel Ferreira at sax and clarinet. Tracks include:

01 - Na Glória (Ari dos Santos / Raul de Barros)
02 - Chorinho de Gafieira (Astor Silva)
03 - Voltei ao Meu Lugar (Carioca)
04 - Paraquedista (José Leocádio)
05 - Violão Vadio (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
06 - Saudade da Bahia (Dorival Caymmi)
07 - Bronzes e Cristais (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Nazareno de Brito)
08 - Baltazar (José Benedito de Freitas / Oscar da Silva)
09 - Dora (Dorival Caymmi)
10 - Pó-ró-ró Pó-ró-ró (Raul de Barros)
11 - Folhas Secas (Nelson Cavaquinho / Guilherme de Brito)
12 - O Trombonista Romântico (Carlos Lima / Espírito Santo)

What a great album! I've never seem something like!

I'm a trombonist, and from now one, Raul de Barros will be my mentor!

Just Perfect!

Russano,

He is really great. Check the previous Raul de Souza releases at Loronix, there are some LPs from a very early Raul.

Raul is still alive, almost forgotten on a small city close to Rio de Janeiro.

Cheers, zeca
