Paulinho da Viola is one of the artists that I learned to admire before I created Loronix. I cannot imagine how it would be my current relationship with Samba without Paulinho da Viola. He makes the perfect connection between Samba and any other Brazilian music style through the quality of his compositions, soulful interpretation, choice of repertoire and his perfect instrument playing, moving transparently between songs and instrumental themes. If someone wants to understand Samba, Paulinho da Viola is the starting point. Period.
This is Paulinho da Viola – A Danca da Solidao (1972), for Odeon, featuring Paulinho da Viola singing her own compositions and selected cuts by top-notch Samba composers, like Monarco, Nelson Sargento, Cartola, Wilson Baptista and others. Lindolfo Gaya is in charge of arrangements and Odeon did not credit musicians. Tracks include:
- Guardei Minha Viola (Paulinho da Viola)
- Meu Mundo É Hoje (Eu Sou Assim) (Wilson Batista / José Batista)
- Papelão (Geraldo das Neves)
- Duas Horas da Manhã (Nelson Cavaquinho / Ari Monteiro)
- Ironia (Paulinho da Viola)
- No Pagode do Vavá (Paulinho da Viola)
- Dança da Solidão (Paulinho da Viola)
- Acontece (Cartola)
- Coração Imprudente (Paulinho da Viola / Capinan)
- Orgulho (Paulinho da Viola / Capinan)
- Falso Moralista (Nelson Sargento)
