Ivan Casanova e Seus Conjuntos - Um Olhar... Uma Danca... Um Amor | aka Walter Wanderley

I love the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. I would not leave Copacabana to Ipanema, but I can make a life on a small city at Minas Gerais south region, easily. I like the way Mineiros (people that belongs to Minas Gerais) take their lives. I was there a couple of years ago for some business with birds; it is wonderful the way Mineiros makes business. I left the farm with a Mineiro and a bird to meet another Mineiro for a possible bird change. Arriving there, the Mineiros spent two hours looking to each other birds without saying a word, absolute silence. Then, they shake hands and left with no business made. I got desperate and asked why the exchange was not performed and why they did not talk to each other about the exchange. The Mineiro turn his head to me and said: "It did not happen".

What a story. That's exactly my relationship with this record for many months. Silence. The record on the shelf. I'm starring the record daily. It did not happen. But there was something familiar with that piano playing that I could not stop thinking.

A couple of days ago, the bossanovadreamer came to me with a story he read on e-bay that Ivan Casanova is Walter Wanderley. That's what I need to associate the playing with the artist and this is what zecalouro shows to your appreciation.

Is Ivan Casanova Walter Wanderley?

Now I will let with Loronixers to agree with zecalouro or not if Ivan Casanova is another nickname used by the Brazilian organist Walter Wanderley and this should be considered a Walter Wanderley LP. Zito Righi e Seu Conjunto - Alucinolandia (1969)

In the beginning, my judgment for this record went on that category of risky ones, such as the Oswaldo Luiz e Seu Conjunto. Meanwhile, I could accumulate some info and I'm now confident to show it to Loronixers. In spite of not having the cover artwork of my dreams to this post, this is a really solid release, from the start to end. You should not miss it.

This is Zito Righi e Seu Conjunto - Alucinolandia (1969), for unknown label, featuring nice vocals from Sonia Santos and Zito Righi sax. If you find in a first hearing Zito Righi sax very similar with Bob Fleming way of play, you have a good hear, Zito Right is Bob Fleming on several albums released by Musidisc, a story that will be clarified tomorrow. Severino Araujo - Orquestra Romantica de Severino Araujo - Teleco Teco em Cordas (1960)

I have been accumulating requests from friends to make the first post of one of the most famous Brazilian orchestra, Orquestra Tabajara, active since 1933. However, I never could find a record in good condition of out of print to show Loronixers. This post should partially fix this issue, a solo record from a Maestro that has his musical career with a tight connection with Orquestra Tabajara, which he is the leader since the foundation in 1933, Maestro Severino Araujo.

This is Severino Araujo - Orquestra Romantica de Severino Araujo - Teleco Teco em Cordas (1960), for Continental, a nice Severino Araujo album, probably unknown to the many fans of Orquestra Tabajara. Teleco Teco em Cordas blends Samba Rhythms with orchestra strings, all arranged by Severino Araujo.

Oswaldo Luiz e Seu Conjunto - Boite do Faz de Conta (1963)

I spent most part of the day outside to see what exactly is this phenomenon called Carnaval that stops Brazil for almost a week. I took my camera with me hoping to find nice shots of authentic Carnaval on streets of Rio to show Loronixers. Unfortunately, I could not make good shots in the middle of the crowd swinging and singing. Actually, this was a useful day; I could realize what exactly is my problem with Carnaval. I cannot feel happy as everybody uses to be in the middle of a parade. Carnaval is great, if you live outside of Brazil, come to see it next week, but it is something that I cannot explain is why everybody gets happy at Carnaval. Anyway, perhaps the problem is with zecalouro.

Let's continue today with that series of posts that zecalouro never had the nerve to share due several reasons. This one is another, now with really serious concerns about. I will tell you.

This is Oswaldo Luiz e Seu Conjunto - Boate do Faz de Conta (1963), for Discos Design. First disturbing thing, maybe wrong as I was yesterday on Mandrake Som, but in my opinion, this record is fake, never saw it on vinyl and was sent by someone in the very beginning of Loronix. Who ever heard about Discos Design? How is Oswaldo Luiz? What is the reason of this title with the phrase "Faz de Conta", on a free translation to English, "pretends to be". In spite of all the uncertainness, it is a nice record, featuring piano, bass, drums and guitar, very well played. Comments section is open to blame zecalouro for not knowing Oswaldo Luiz and this possibly legendary album. Tracks include:

Music Video | Rafael Rabello - Garota de Ipanema

Hello, Good Night! Rafael Rabello was recently introduced to Loronixers on an early post, a tribute to Garoto with Maestro Radames Gnattali. I got this video with Rafael Rabello performing Garota de Ipanema, a really unique rendition. A combo, probably featuring the legendary Wilson das Neves on drums, accompanies Rafael. Enjoy this video while zecalouro fix himself with a shower after a long day of Carnaval activities.

Mandrake Som - Sombossa (1975)

This is a unique chance to show Loronixers the music I have and never make me confident to share. There are several reasons for this lack of confidence, mainly lack of information. Let's take advantage of the situation, everybody is now watching TV, looking at the Carnaval Parade, others are traveling, etc. This is the day, let's start.

This is Mandrake Som - Sombossa (1975). Personnel is unknown and there is a great chance that Mandrake is the drummer or percussionist. The music is a top-notch instrumental Bossa Jazz with some African accent. I recommend, just to play with your curiosity and put your finger to work on discover these guys. We have a deal this time. Nara Leao - Meu Samba Encabulado (1983)

That's right, just came back from a Carnaval parade. I left home without the idea of engage a parade, but when I waking on the beach, the parade approaches in the opposite direction and I was dragged to it. No chance. Today, they do not use percussion instruments, assembling what we call a Bateria. They set-up a truck and install a powerfull sound system. Everything is electric and the musicians go on top of it. This idea came from Bahia and the original name of this adapted truck is Trio Eletico. Nice story that I can tell you in details sometime.

I get back home with that noise shaking my head. Just what I need to make a decision for a female singer with very sweet voice and really popular between Loronixers. I hope you approve it.

This is Nara Leao - Meu Samba Encabulado (1983), for Polygram, a late Nara Leao release, pretty different from what we use to make at Loronix, focused on earlier Nara Leao works. By the way, I was looking at Nara Leao discography, it is huge, several LPs released, mainly in the 70s. Definitively, we should get back the old Nara Leao pace at Loronix before Carnaval. Erlon Chaves e Orquestra Saint Moritz - Procura-se uma Virgem - OST (1971)

I was wondering, if I write down a list with names of friends who have asked for this LP since Loronix started, perhaps we could embrace Maracana. Several reasons were keeping it for later, I never found the LP, no hi-res cover artwork was available, posted first a Quimsy (http://quimsy.blogspot.com), etc. A couple of days ago, Mr. Bapt said that he and several friends of Loronix would be the happiest music fan in the world with this post. That's the reason I was looking for.

This is Erlon Chaves e Orquestra Saint Moritz - Procura-se uma Virgem - OST (1971), for CID, supposed to be one of the most sought after Erlon Chaves LP. This OST was recorded to a Brazilian movie, Procura-se uma Virgem and features only Erlon Chaves compositions performed by Orquestra Saint Moritz. I'm very curious to see what should happen with this very requested release. Tracks include:

Hello, Good Night! The album I was looking for has finally arrived. I'm talking about something that blends the music we like with Carnaval rhythms. I know there are many ones, but I'm really happy to make this one available instead of something disconnected from Loronix. A great Maestro on Carnaval, let's see what happens.

This is J.T. Meirelles e Sua Orquestra - Brazilian Beat Volume 2 (1967), for London. Meirelles starts with a batucada, not a song, following with nice orchestra renditions to well known "marchinhas and ends with two Bossa Nova classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Tracks include:

Le Trio Camara - Le Trio Camara (1968)

Finally, Le Trio Camara makes his appearance at Loronix. Several requests were addressed for making this post. I had concerns regarding the commercial availability of this LP, since it was recently reissued outside of Brazil. I'm happy that I could check it with Loronixers two or three months agora and we got green light to show this incredible Samba Jazz music.

This is Le Trio Camara - Le Trio Camara (1968), for Saravah (France), featuring Edson Lobo (bass), Fernando Martins (piano) and Nelson Serra (drums). Introductions are not necessary with this anthological LP; several respectable people consider this record as the best Brazilian instrumental bossa already released. You should not miss it; I like very much this LP. Tracks include:
